Their void amp clatters to the ground as they put their hands up, slowly rising to their knees from where they'd dropped to avoid whatever energy blast had just missed them. They have no idea what sort of person--creature--thing, is standing in front of them, but they do know this: they would be dead right now if it wanted them to be.

Maybe if they try and play nice, the two of them can just go their separate ways--or at least they can throw it off long enough to disappear.

"So," they say, with a practiced veneer of calm, "are we done shooting each other now?"

If it was an asshole--okay, it is an asshole, but if it was a different kind of asshole--it would say, 'No', shoot them in the head, and leave the body here where no-one would ever see it again except the Infested still scuttling around this supposedly-abandoned ship.

Instead it powers down the energy weapons in its arms and says: "For now."

The infested make all the hairs on its organic parts stand on end. It doesn't really want to leave a human--augmented human?--body with them, even one it doesn't know. No, it doesn't know why. Yes, it's stupid to give a shit.

It tries to poke into their feed, to access any augments they might have, something to give it more intel on who and what this person is. There's a strange, staticky interference that feels like it's all around them. Maybe it can get through that, but it needs more time.

"The ship isn't safe for humans. I've been tasked with clearing it." That wasn't not not a lie (note to self: consult ART on triple negatives). "Are you from the Corporation Rim?"

Review:   Gorgeous, moody, and full of secrets, HLD is a game stuffed to the brim with nuance and detail. Though it may not be as precise as it thinks it is, the fast-paced combat and interconnected levels are a treat to play and explore.

Those attending TennoVIP at Gamescom 2024 got a special first look at Koumei & the Five Fates: the next update coming to Warframe this fall!

Eagle-eyed Tenno will recognize this as our cleverly named "Unannounced Fall Update" which was first discussed at TennoCon 2024. Unannounced no longer, this update was officially revealed as Koumei & the Five Fates alongside a brand-new Warframe and a new Nightwave Series with Stalker-themed Drifter and Operator customizations.

Jade Shadows fans can look forward to filling their Arsenals with some excellent equipment related to the brooding protector. This Nightwave Series will launch on September 3!

This latest rendition of TennoVIP also included a look at the new Volt Deluxe Skin, which will be sprinting into Koumei & the Five Fates later this year. You can see the new design for yourself below!

While not a part of Koumei & the Five Fates, TennoVIP attendees also rounded out the evening with a look at a different upcoming Warframe: Cyte-09. This tactical talent — whose related Protoframe you may recognize as Quincy from this year's TennoLive demo — will arrive with Warframe: 1999 this winter. However, those at our Gamescom community event got a first look at his design in-game for the first time! Now this latest sneak peek is available to the viewing public at large.

Last but certainly not least was a gorgeous new tease featuring Lettie — the Trinity Protoframe — as depicted in the upcoming Warframe: 1999 animation by The Line. You'll get to know more about The Hex's stern medical expert much as the months roll on, but for now you can enjoy this latest look in our first Production Diary update!

Ro'Meave redesign

Something that's always bugged me was the outfits chosen for mystreet. Like, don't get me wrong, they're cool but I feel like they don't work as well as it should.

Zane: I wanted to give him a more layered look because he's like a ogre. He has layers to him. I don't think I did it total justice but you get my idea. It makes him look softer, but I feel like more unapproachable to those outside of his circle bc of all the black. I also thought it would be funny to give him a subtle MLP shirt design. He would totally wear subtle merch that are disguised as band t-shirts. I also feel like he's taller than most people but makes himself smaller by leaning away from people & curling in on himself. So when he gets mad he's that more intimidating.

Garroth: Obviously he likes hawaiian t-shirts so I wanted to keep that instead of the flannel bc it's kinda ugly. it's a touch too bright so I gave him a darker blue as his "main color", but I kept the bright blue as his accent. Plus, since Garroth in MyStreet is a lot sillier and more himbo, I figured the hawaiian t-shirt + shorts combo fit him better. It makes him a lot more approachable and makes him seem fun/goofy. Plus, he's the most likely to just join in on the fun so I wanted to give him clothes that would allow him to join a random game of soccer or football.

Vylad: There's this joke that Vylad is oftentimes off traveling the world, so I wanted to give him more of a hiker/drifter vibe instead of chic French biker. He also gets a backpack to carry his shit everywhere. Especially bc of diaries bc I feel like that man dresses like a hobo, no matter the fact that he comes from wealth and definitely has the money. It's more of a, functionality vs coolness style. Plus I wanted him to stand out compared to Laurance so I made him wear more earthy tones.

Family: I wanted to give them all traits that Zianna would give them. Like rounder cheeks, hooded eyes (Zianna would have to do that eyelid trick for the winged eyeliner), and their lips have a more protruding part to their top lip. However, Garroth and Vylad both have thicker eyebrows compared to Zane. But Zane and Garroth have different noses to Vylad.

Continental Drifter by Kathy Macleod. First Second, 2024. 9781250813732. 218pp including an afterward, photos of Kathy and her family, and comics that she drew when she was a kid.

Kathy and her older sister Jennie grew up in Thailand where they were raised by older parents (their dad is a retired US soldier, their mother a Thai businesswoman). They attended international schools where they were educated in English. Their family also spent some summers in Maine with their father's family.

A lot of the book is about Kathy not feeling like she fit in, no matter where she is. It also explores the way her family didn't talk about the past and so often kept their feelings from each other.

Some people thought Kathy's dad was her grandfather. In Thailand after friend's brother told her she wasn't American, Kathy started to look forward to going to Maine, where she would be attending summer camp for the first time. (She also started keeping a diary as she began her countdown to the Maine trip.) In Maine, though, she and her family were clearly different from those around them. Despite a group of loving relatives there, it wasn't always a great experience. But camp wasn't a complete and utter disaster, either.

There's a lot to love about this book. It feels like the kind of story that might open up some kids' eyes about how they treat others, especially how questioning and excluding kids can make them feel like they don't belong. I'm a huge fan of Kathy's warm and welcoming camp counselor. And I loved the fart jokes, her relationship with her dad, the bits about Thai culture, and the cringy moment when her mom gave her a special something to take with her to camp.

Book 1: Bombs on Monday Morning - the classic Fallout 4 origin story of my Sole Survivor (Gwenora Rose Isham) with a twist where synth-Shaun isn't a synth and isn't her son (no spoilers!)

Book 2: For the People - my SS finds inspiration in her newfound love, Hancock, and decides to kick the Brotherhood out of town and put someone new in charge of the tech-crazed army all while finding her way into motherhood again.

Book 3: Hope Restored - the Minutemen take on the Gunners to finally free the Commonwealth of the last of the Terrible Three, and my SS amasses a team of specialists to plan for a healthier and more sustainable future. Meanwhile, Hancock is having a power struggle in Goodneighbor and attempts made on his life without Fahrenheit's protection.

Book 4: Forgotten Paradise (UPCOMING) - the Nuka-World experience where my SS and family take a trip to Nuka-World on a family vacation, except Hancock is forced into being Overboss with an ex-girlfriend looming over him while my SS is locked behind bars. "Shaun" has his own adventure, too.

Book 5: How to Cure Eternity (UPCOMING) - My SS is obsessed with her own mortality after marrying a Ghoul, and since Hancock's forbid her to attempt ghoulification, she desperately searches for a cure for Ghoulism. She also finds out that sentient Ghouls are sterile after beginning her battle with baby fever. A fluff piece but still an important installment for the next book.

Book 6: Nuclear Mystery (UPCOMING) - the Far Harbor experience. Nick needs the help of his old partner and my SS agrees to help "just this once" because she recently announced she wanted to enjoy a life of retirement to keep up her health while battling Molerat Disease, skin conditions from untreated sun exposure (she's albino), and war wounds. Walking through the thick mists of Far Harbor leaves much to the imagination as you can barely see in front of your face and giant Gulpers prowling the abandoned streets. What happens there changes Gwen forever...

Book 7: Locked Inside (UPCOMING) - after leaving the Commonwealth and traveling the Wasteland, Gwen and Hancock uncover the existence of other Vaults throughout America and attempt to save anyone who may still be trapped inside. What she didn't count on was encountering all the experiments that were still going on, including "curing Ghouls" and even using them as their nuclear reactor...

Time for the story of “Texas Tiger”.

When I was a baby Mom gave me her toys. She only had two, after a life that had taught her painfully not to get attached to objects. One was a doll with a plastic head and red body, but she had no name. The other was “Texas Tiger”.

“Texas Tiger” was special. I knew that. The very fact he had a name, peculiarly inappropriate for a lion, was sign enough. But there was something about the way Mom spoke of him that made it clear. There was a smile in her voice, love in her eyes.

I loved him too. He had a bit more fur and still a little paint on his eyes back them. I loved him to bits, very nearly literally. I was a child, and when you are a child love doesn’t mean a shelf but cuddling.

Why Mom loved him so I never questioned. I figured it was a cute gift from her brother, and that was all. And then I found Mom’s diaries and letters she wrote Pop before she was married.

When Mom turned 16 she was having a rough time in her life.

Her parents had divorced, a fact they didn’t even tell her directly. She was stuck living with her father and a brand new step mother, which would be awkward enough. Her father was always rather cool to her, distant, making her always wonder if he loved her or merely endured her. The step mother being very young, not all that much older than Mom, made it harder.

But it gets worse. Just during this time this diary covered he step mother had a medical problem and then had a baby and her father’s heart trouble led to him having a heart attack in the classroom while teaching. He father was a teacher that went from job to job, so they moved a lot and had no money. Naturally her father wanted a permanent job, and the place he was working said he could have one if he certain updated degree. So off he went to the next state to a university, taking the family, selling the car to pay, enrolling….and then getting a letter within weeks that they had given the job to someone else. Broke, no new job lined up, the moved to the farm land his family owned. Trouble was, drifters had destroyed the little house so the family was stuck living by a campfire for the summer…

Now most of this happened after “Texas Tiger” showed up, but I explain all these things to explain why the people in her life had a lot of things on their mind besides her 16th birthday.

Mom had been excited. Normally someone that even so young wrote matter of factly in neat handwriting staying within the lines, the page was visibly different. She’d written all in the margins, at angles, big letters, tons of exclamation points, several times : “I’m 16!!!!!!!” It was utterly adorable.

And then no one cared.

No gifts. No cards. No cake. No one even mentioning it to her.

Mom always shrugs things off, but I could feel how crushed she was radiating of the page. Unloved.

And then the next day she came home and there was a package for her.

Texas Tiger.

Her brother in the air force had sent her the gift, and he’d even named him. The letter was tucked in the diary, explaining it was a reference to where he was, and that he had wanted a stuffed tiger but a lion had to do.

I’m sure he didn't know the full meaning the gift had to her. It was proof she was loved.

I’ve been reading recently discovered letters Mom wrote Pop when they were in college, and today, on a sad Christmas day, I got to one with a surprising sentence.

“I still love you, even better than I love Texas Tiger.”

Mom, now in her twenties and just five months from marrying Pop, was using this toy tiger as the ultimate in love! it’s like a sign I made the right choice in gift for Mom!

I can’t tell you the magic moment I decided to make a lion for Mom, but it felt right even before I consciously realized the Texas Tiger connection.

Mom gave me her beloved lion to watch over me as a baby, and now I was sending a lion to watch over her. I was sending her love.

I wish she had felt up to talking today, so I could have said that to her.

mother Miranda's route is warned to be played after doing the other ladies routes because it's during her route that you find out more about the whole game

Its also been said that Miranda's route is considered... The true ending when you get the good route

When you start the game, you're going to be given four choices. These choices basically ask what kind of student you want to be. The art kid, the social butterfly, the drifter etc etc

You want bela's route? Be the nerd, the scholar and try to get into the student council because she's student council president

Cassandra's route however is open when you decide to be an art kid, a theater one to be specific. You're gonna have to put your acting skills to use and volunteer to play romeo if you want to date her, mate

Also the diary has a function, don't forget to use it!

The Doctor in Myths & Historical Impossibilities

Alongside various other mysteries, the book Myths & Historical Impossibilities collates quite a few accounts of the mysterious Doctor figure.

There are tales of a medic involving himself in the works of Shakespeare, a lewd encounter with a painter in the court of King Charles II, and a botched escape from a German POW camp.

The introductory passage to the chapters relating to the Doctor:

"THE UNNAMED DOCTOR" One of the most intriguing and compelling of all the documented historical impossibilities I have come across in my studies so far is what I like to call "The Strange Case of the Unnamed Doctor." Nearly a dozen incidents of this mysterious man cropping up in wildly varying locations and periods of our history makes this one of the most mysterious cases herein. Some have called him the "Bow-Tied Boy," others the "Time Drifter," but whoever he was, or is, he certainly seems to get around…

This passage gives us a few other names by which the "doctor" is known. These seem to be tied to a specific version of the doctor.

Excerpt referring to the casting of a British movie:

As was often the case with the speedy turnaround of the famous Carry On comedy films, publicity pictures were sometimes taken before the cameras even started rolling. Though the actor pictured here (identified as 'John Smith' on the back of the photograph) did not end up playing the role of the Khasi of Kalabar in Peter Rogers' 1968 camp classic Up The Khyber- the role eventually being filled by veteran Carry On star Kenneth Williams - he clearly got as far as a costume fitting. In an entry from 12 March 1968 in Kenneth Williams's diary, Smith is referred to briefly. "Costume's far too big," complains Williams. "Daft idiots offering the role to Smith. Who's heard of him anyway? Should never have turned it down in first place… Met JS briefly yesterday at Pinewood. Nice looking chap. Checked for him later in Spotlight directory - no trace!" No other clues remain as to why or how this 'John Smith' was hired or fired from the movie.

"John Smith" is another name - believed to be an alias - often associated with the doctor, particularly one "Dr. John Smith" who is counted amongst UNIT staff who many believe to be the original "Doctor". What was he doing auditioning for a role in a 'Carry On...' film?

Excerpt regarding a mass prison break during the second world war:

Six months later, every allied prisoner escaped from Stalag Luft 14 in a single night - during an anachronistic stage production of the musical 'La Cage aux Folles', a musical which had yet to be written. Even the Germans were taking part in the performance, and by the time the Schutzstaffel arrived, the commandant was caught in the middle of performing a solo of 'I Am What I Am.'

While comical, if true, this would add weight to the prevailing theory that the doctor is a time-traveller. In this case, he saves prisoners of war but also seems to have damaged the continuity of the timelines.

Excerpt detailing an appearance in the Bayeux Tapestry:

The Bayeux Tapestry - though, of course, not actually a tapestry - has fascinated scientists, historians and the public alike for centuries. Of all the images depicted in this fascinating commemoration of the events surrounding the Norman Conquest, none is more difficult to comprehend than the seemingly anachronistic figure in the bow tie pointing towards what is now widely thought to be Halley's Comet. Could he be our Unnamed Doctor? And what of the strange words 'Cooee pond"? Certainly not Latin. A joke by the nuns who embroidered this masterpiece, perhaps? We may never know.

This is one of many strange anomalies that can be found within the Bayeux Tapestry, including lizard people and a blue box. The image matches well with one of the reported "doctors," of whom there seem to be many.

Appearance of what is possibly the Doctor in an extended nursery rhyme:

This I stumbled across in an 1819 book entitled Mrs Molbury's Collected Rhymes Both Ancient and Modern. Though the first verse is the same as those usually found in texts of this period, the rest of the tale is very different indeed. What could a 'Sontaran' be? Considering a 'humpty-dumpty' is supposedly a 17th-century beverage of boiled brandy and ale, might this Sontaran too have been an ancient cocktail of some kind? And could the 'Fool' in question be the Unnamed Doctor?: Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the King's Horses and all the King's Men Couldn't put Humpty together again. But then came a cry, 'twas from the King's Fool: Opining that bow ties look fashionably cool. He stepped from a blue box and said with a grin: "What a terrible pickle you've got yourselves in."

Curiously, not only is this the first time in history Humpty-Dumpty is explicitly referred to as an egg, the illustrations for this edition include a blue box. The language is also anachronistic, and the word "Strax" also appears within reports of the "Paternoster Gang" in reference to a henchman or butler whose "countenance was too abominable to be photographed."

More historical mysteries and references to "the unnamed doctor" are available to read about in Professor Clifford Measey's Myths & Historical Impossibilities, which I highly recommend to all of you. If you don't want to invest money, please check it out at your local library. It really is a fascinating read.
