I’ll answer your other questions under the cut since I have a lot to say and don’t want to clutter dashes too much more.

To answer your other questions: tbh running an art blog is different for everyone since everyone has a different way of running it. But here are some tips:

Draw what you want! This is the most important thing. Don’t feel pressured to draw characters just because they’re popular if you don’t want to draw them. The best way to keep yourself interested in drawing is to draw what you’re interested in. Art is a passion. Unless it’s for paid commission work, you should be drawing what you want to draw!

Try to post your own artwork consistently. I usually post one new doodle every day but tbh that’s rare for artists. And you definitely shouldn’t pressure yourself to draw if you don’t feel up to it. But if you can post something new at least once a week, people will be more likely to follow you. (If building up a following is what you’re aiming for.)

Know how to avoid Tumblr’s stupid pitfalls that send your posts to the void.

Use tags wisely. The first five will be the ones that show up in search tags. I usually tag the fandom a post is from, and then tag the characters, starting with the most popular one in the post.

Don’t post links in your post description. I hate that I have to give this advice. But Tumblr sucks and posts with links will no longer show up in search results. This is horrible for small blogs trying to get their work noticed.

Check regularly to make sure your work doesn’t get unfairly flagged as NSF.W

Keep your blog organized so that it’s easy for potential followers to navigate

USE A TAGGING SYSTEM.

TAG YOUR ART!!! THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE! MAKE IT EASY FOR PEOPLE TO FIND ALL OF YOUR WORK IN ONE CONVENIENT LOCATION!!

Tag everything else, too! Tag characters! Tag specific games. If you have an AU or a bunch of posts related to each other, create a tag for them! Someone might be super interested in that particular topic and might want to see everything you have for it. If posts are really long, tag those too.

Tag potential triggers so your blog is user-friendly! Here are some examples of what I always tag in no particular order of importance:

ships 

blood

body horror

flashing gifs

scopophobia

food

ALSO TAG YOUR SPOILERS!! And let your followers know what those spoiler tags are. I’m probably on the extreme end of the spectrum, but I usually tag spoilers up until a year after something is released...

I bet other artists will have advice of their own, and they’re welcome to add it to this post, too. But those are the most important things, in my opinion.

To answer your last question-- of course there’s nothing wrong with drawing on your phone instead of a computer! Whether you draw on paper, a computer, or a phone, all art is on equal footing! You’re just as valid as any other artist out there.

QUESTION

So I’ve been thinking about watching the Final Fantasy XV anime as a way to see if I’m interested in the game, but do I need to play the game first in order to understand the anime or does it work just fine on its own?

I’ve never really played a Final Fantasy game before, but the more random stuff I hear about XV, the more I want to investigate it. (I primarily blame @drunkfinalfantasy15 and @destiny-islanders for this.)

So, what do you guys think? Is it better to start with the anime or just jump straight to the game?
