I think ogata was wrong about yuusaku being the “only” one who ever loved him. I think he was just the only one who would love him regardless of who he was. Ogata���s mother loved him, but her love was partially dependent who his father was. He was the literal lovechild of a man who no longer loves her. How could she not be reminded of that every time she looked at her son’s face? She wanted someone back in her life that was never going to look back. So ogata internalized that if you loved someone, you’d never ever let them go. And he mercifully let her go. He couldnt stand the man who felt the love that Ogata deserved, so he never ever let him go. When that guilt karmically came back to him, hanazawa yuusaku mercifully let him go. “Brother,” he said with that same smile.
