Ray loves burning casettes to play in various radios laying around the firehouse, so much so that he even taught Winston how to do it after they bonded over their music taste. Egon installed a casette player into Ecto-1 for them that he scrounged from a 70's cadillac during a bust. Peter, due to repeated incidents and offenses, is only allowed to play his cassettes in Ecto-1 if he asks very nicely and they are appropriately labeled.

Trevor scampered his way through the New York streets in ECTO1, using the siren to cut his way through the downtown traffic. Once he arrived, he pulled over and parked up in front of the large building. He switched off the siren and checked himself out in the rearview mirror, giving himself a once-over in all departments before he climbed out. He straightened his red jacket as he walked the stone steps into the familiar building. He knew the route well after so many visits.

And of course, she was waiting for him. Stood facing one of the many display cases of items, wearing her black heeled boots, tights, long brown plaid skirt, elbow-length black button blouse and a brown waistcoat to match her skirt.

Trevor ran a hand through his hair before he approached. And with his best, most sultry, flirty voice. “Well, Hello, Y/n.”

“Oh, perfect timing.” She smiled as she turned to face him, her hair sweetly curled, thick glasses on her nose and a soft brown matte lipstick. “Good morning, Mr Spengler.”

“Oh? We're back to Mr Spengler, are we? What did I do?”

She laughed, “When we’re working. Yes.”

“Aww, this is a work thing, I kinda hoped you called me for personal business.”

“Then I’d have called your phone, not the Ghostbusters,” she reminds, “And as much as it would be nice to have you visiting me at work, this was business related.”

He playfully rolled his eyes, “Fine, Professor Y/L/N,” he smirked, “So? What was so urgent?”

She began to walk, her boots clacking on the stone floor as she moved, “We, of course, are accustomed to the usual level of haunting, atleast for any building in New York City holding as many spiritually charged objects as we do.”

“Yeah, the lab has a bet on whether it’s you guys or them,” he nodded, following behind her,

“But of course, thanks to Pheboe’s barrier system, we rarely have any damage or serious spiritual matters.”

“But?”

“But,” she nodded, “Professor August had been dealing again, and managed to grab himself a lot of very strange items he hopes to display within the month,” she said as she brought Trevor with her down to the archive area.

“And let me guess, one of them is sending things crazy even with the barrier system holding strong?”

“Yes,” she sighed as she stopped in front of a locked case.

“What am I looking at exactly. Professor?”

“This is a Himitsu Bako, a Japanese puzzle box. Supposedly dating well before the Asuka period of Japan. Given the location it was found, Professor August is convinced this is the Himitsu Bako that once belonged to Hoshiko and may contain her Tome.”

Trevor nodded like he knew what… any of that meant. “Yes, Yes. The Tome of Hoshimo”

Y/n playfully chuckled, “Myth suggests Hoshimo was an ancient witch who used the magic of fallen stars to grant great wishes to those who served her. But in turn, her giving you such a gift would require her claiming ownership of your soul, allowing her to take dominion and control of your body and mind at will.” she explained “Myth says she was taken from this world and sealed within her own Tome or spellbook, awaiting the day she is willingly released.”

“AH.” He gasped, “So… not someone we want wandering Central Park?”

“Certainly not,” she nodded, “And since this had been in the building, we have been utterly smothered in cats, any room it’s moved to drops a good few degrees, three of the male researches have passed out in the box’s presence, and all of the janitors have claimed they hear… siren songs coming from inside. As if calling them to open the box.”

“Calling them? Even with the system running?”

“Yes.”

“Hu… that’s new.” he nodded, going to move closer,

“Trevor- Please be careful,” she said, her tone filled with worry,

He softly smiled and took her hand, giving her knuckles a little kiss, “Don’t worry about me, all part of my job.” He winked. He did the usual checks with his instruments, “You believe all this stuff then? Ancient witches and the like?”

“I’m a scientist, Trevor.”

“Not what I asked you,” he smirked,

“Not sure what I believe in anymore,” she answered, her eyes flicking to meet his, her expression saying far more than words ever could.

All the readings immediately went off the charts, “Ohhkay. That’s not good. We could try and take it-”

“You already know I asked. August won’t let it leave the building.”

“Of course, he won’t,” Trevor cursed, “Well… I will get Pheboe to bulk the system up a bit stronger for you. I’d suggest keeping it double locked, and we will run some tests to see if we can come up with something more permanent. But definitely don’t display it, not until we know what we are dealing with.”

“Yes, of course,” she nodded, “I’ll walk you out.”

Trevor nodded and walked out with Y/n back to the car, “You alright?”

“Oh? Yes, I’m fine.”

“Y/n.”

“…does it ever bother you?”

“Does what bother me?”

“Not knowing. Some ghosts are people or things, monsters or … haunted CDS. Does it ever bother you, not knowing the rules?”

“I guess not, never really thought about it too much.” He shrugged, “My sister does the… thinking.” He joked, “… Does it bother you?”

“I’m a scientist, Trevor. My job is to know things.”

“Yet you work surrounded by mysteries and magic all day?”

She scoffed, “Magic is merely the name given to the science yet to be defined; all history is is snake oils and magic tricks we one day explain.” She nodded, “I used to believe that anyway…”

“Until?”

“Nothing.”

He sighed and took both her hands in his own, “We all search for answers, Y/n, but it’s okay not to have them all now, one day we’ll understand the trick. It might just not be today. But… you don’t have to be scared, not now, not ever. I do this every day, remember.”

“Of course,” she nodded, “thank you, Trevor.”

“No need to thank me. Protecting you is my favourite job.” He smiled, pressing a little kiss to her forehead, “Any more trouble, you call me directly, okay?”

“Okay,” she nodded,

Trevor pulled his hands away, but leant on the roof of ECTO1, “Or you know… You can just call me whenever, or maybe I could call you?”

“You don’t need my permission to call me, Trevor,” she laughed.

“Don’t I? Ohhhhh.” he smirked, “Hey, how about we get you away from worrying about this place?”

“Oh? Have something in mind?” she asked, already blushing a little,

“Well… I do think we are a little overdue for our sixth date, don’t you think?”

“I suppose it’s about time,” she agreed,

“So are you busy tonight?”

“I don’t think so, anywhere you had in mind?”

“How about that cute little Italian place we drove past last time?”

“Lovely, what time?”

“Shall we say, Seven?” he suggested, “I’ll come pick you up?”

“Sounds perfect,” she agreed. “I’ll see you at seven,” she nodded, turning to head back inside.

“Awww, no kiss?” He pouted,

She laughed, “I am at work, and so are you technically.”

“Come on, Please?” He cooed,

Y/n playfully rolled her eyes and closed the gap between them, resting her hands on his chest and pressing her lips to his,

Trevor immediately wrapped his arms around her, putting his hands on her hips as he kissed her back. He leant his back against the car and kept her close, not wanting their kisses to end.

But Y/n pulled back and pecked his nose, “I’ll see you later,”

“See you later,” he cooed, releasing her from his grip and climbing into the car, starting the engine and the siren. “Until tonight, Professor.” He blew her a kiss,

She blew a kiss back as he backed out and headed back to the firehouse.
