Lovett barricades Jon in his own room on Tuesday.

“You’re stressed out, but more importantly your dog is stressed out. Look at him! He’s this close to snapping and ripping off some poor, unsuspecting person’s face.” Leo, laying on the bed, legs splayed out to take up as much room as possible, closes his eyes and settles more into the duvet. He lets out a small whine of a sigh through his nose.

“That was a growl.” Lovett declares, pointing at Jon. “That was a threat.”

Apparently, making sure Jon’s dog is calm means making sure Jon is calm (Jon almost appreciates how little Lovett is trying here, how there’s no effort at all in trying to obfuscate what he’s doing). He confiscates Jon’s phone (“Tommy is on twitter duty today, he has your password and does a great Favs impression.”), makes him order pizza for lunch and only rolls his eyes but doesn’t comment when Jon orders thin crust and vegetables, has him eat it in bed while watching whatever he wants on Netflix on his laptop, looking over occasionally to smack his hands away when Jon tries to sneak in answering an email or writing a to-do list of things to catch up on. Other than that Lovett just stays in bed next to him, scrolling through his phone, occasionally writing emails with his socked feet curled under him. Not even really interacting with Jon except to occasionally make sure he’s “chilling.”When Lovett gets too stressed he becomes withdrawn and quiet with sudden bursts of pure mania, while Tommy will just work himself into vapors, washing himself out more and more. Jon doesn’t know what the warning signs are for him. If he gets tense around his eyes or what specific symptom he showed that made Tommy and Lovett concoct this semi-intervention. But he’s deeply thankful. 

Around three, Lovett decides it’s nap time. Pulling his laptop away from Jon and demanding to know where his parachute throw blanket is. 

Jon goes easily, just accepting being cared for, accepting the blanket, accepting Lovett’s hands ruffling his hair, half joking at first but settling into gentle, soothing strokes. 

Jon stills. Focuses on Lovett’s fingers, Leo’s steady and deep breaths, the hum of the ceiling fan. 

“You can tell us when you need a break from holding everything together, you sadist. You deserve a break sometimes.” Jon hears Lovett say softly, Jon hums to show he’s heard, but he’s so close to sleep he doesn’t think he could actually respond with words, feeling so comfortable for the first time in weeks. Before he finally drifts off he hears Lovett murmur, “You’re important too, you know.”
