渡邉氏が考察する“バスレフ型スピーカーが原理的に抱える矛盾”とは？

渡邉氏　バスレフ型スピーカーのことを“位相反転型スピーカー"とも呼びますね。ユニットの後方から出ている音を、位相を反転させてユニット前方に放射される音に付け加えるから“位相反転型"なのです。

位相を反転することに着目すると、「リアにダクトを備えたバスレフスピーカー」というのは原理的に様々な問題を抱えていると考えています。なぜなら、位相反転を行うためには、ポートとウーファーの距離を、ウーファーの直径の3倍以上取る必要があるからです。これだけの距離を確保しないと、ポートから音が放射されるまでに位相が反転できません。ですからウーファーとダクトの距離が近いと、位相が反転する前の逆位相成分がダクトから出てしまう。逆相成分が放出されたら、前方に放射される正相の音がキャンセルされてしまうのです。

渡邉氏　しかもリアバスレフは、位相反転したものを前方ではなく後方に放出することになります。はたして、リアのバスレフポートから放出された音は、前方に放出された音と正相になっているでしょうか。

エンクロージャーが小型化すれば長いダクトを納めるのも難しくなるので、リアバスレフが増えていることは理解できます。しかし、こうしたスピーカーを位相反転型と同義のバスレフ型と呼ぶのは難しそうです。このようなスピーカーのポートは、空気を抜く穴としてしか機能していないでしょう。

ーー　ですが、リアバスレフのスピーカーでも音質面で高い評価を得ているモデルは少なくありません。

渡邉氏　低音は波長が長く位相のズレが感知しにくいので、見過ごされがちなのです。しかし、ダイナミックレンジを確保したハイレゾ音源を再生するとなると、この差は見過ごせないものになるでしょう。

ーー　ハイレゾ時代において、このバスレフ型の問題点と、密閉型スピーカーの優位性がより明確になっていくというご主張ですね。
