omgomgomg. I just got my book in the mail!! my dopamine receptors are not what they used to be, I don't think ill ever be able to read a book cover to cover..I did go flipping through some of my favorite chapters though,
chapter 31 always kinda sends me. my mans was just on the brink of death, still feels like death, and Mello just comes in like hey...I need you to crack TETRA for me.
I know Matt ends up finding a workaround, god bless him, can't say the compsci major in me didn't shudder at the idea...I'm the type of person who won't even code hungover.
it made me geek the hell out though. haven't heard the words raspberry pi mentioned since like.. high school. with Matt there's often an element of over-the-top "I'm in the mainframe!!" in fanfics, or stuff just straight up happens behind the scenes. I'm so curious about the inspiration for this scene, if there was any!
did you attempt this at home!?!
thanks! i’m glad it got to you safely.
honestly, i don’t have any programming experience or knowledge, but i researched audio surveillance a lot and downloaded a bunch of papers about radio waves.
most of it came from actually looking at the manga panels where they showed what devices light was using during the hotel meetings, and then reverse engineering it by figuring out how the police force was able to listen in on meetings remotely. after i came up with the most likely method the npa listened in on takada, then it became way easier to figure out how to think of it from mello’s pov (brute force it, work at it slowly) vs how matt would approach it (social engineering, hacking via forcing them on less secure platforms).
i really wanted matt to be able to talk about hacking like he actually knew how to do it, so i was extremely careful to mimic how experts discussed the hacking/audio surveillance, even if it’s all mumbo jumbo to me.
