little nerd tip for writers that'll probably be useful to literally no one and is likely super obvious but I wanna post about it: when writing a scene where a character is unwillingly doing something, 'hesitant' is the turmoil of someone's brain forcing their body to do something; 'reluctant' is someone's body going against and forcing their brain to do something thank you for coming to my ted talk

MY FIRST MICROFIC?!

James ran through the halls to the dorms. How could he have forgotten that Regulus was coming today? He had promised Sirius to be there when his brother arrived. Bloody Frank who had to distract him with his tactics. James sped around the corner, not looking where he was going.

Before he knew it, he bumped into someone, who dropped whatever he was holding. “Merde” he murmured. At the same time he heard something like “Regardoùtuva, imbécile”. When James looked up, he swore he was dreaming. Why was there such a beautiful man before him, and why did he think he recognised him, and- oh. The man was speaking French to him. James shook himself awake. “Excuse moi.” The man before him frowned, probably because of his poor accent. “Peux tu- uh could you repeat that?”

“Would you rather I speak english?” James blinked. Shit, that accent was hot. The way his sentence waved up and down like a melody. How he said ‘engleesh’. Perfectly able to use posh English apparently.

“No, no. Je comprends français si c��est facile pour toi.” So maybe James would like to hear him speak French again. Nothing wrong with that, right? 

The Frenchman mumbled something incomprehensible. “Tu connais Sirius Black?” James grinned. “Oui!” He took the paper and the key the man dropped from the ground and shoved it back into the man's while walking in the direction he was going anyway. “Il est mon meilleur ami.” Sirius also knew French, from his childhood. “Mon chéri.” Was Sirius in trouble? Was that why this man was here? “Mon frère.”

At that, the man freezed and looked at him with a frighteningly empty face. “Je suis son frère.” James was stunned. What did he mean, he was his brother? Sirius had only one brother, who lived in France, who came here toda- Shit. How could he have fucked up so badly? Goodbye great first impression.

“I’m so sorry.” James blurted out. He knew exactly how unstable the bond between the brothers was. “Please hate me.” The man, Regulus, the man was Regulus, raised an eyebrow. “Hate me, and not him. I know what a hassle it was to come here. Don’t let my stupid mouth ruin that, please.”

Regulus looked slightly amused. “I take it you’re James Potter?” James Potter. Jahmes Pahttair. Gods, James was dying.

“Yeah. Yeah, I am. Heard me screaming while on the line with Sirius, didn’t you?” Regulus kept silent.

James had totally fucked it up.

Hey I hope this isn't too wildly invasive! I THINK a while ago you said you'd lived in Cymru for a bit, can I ask whereabouts? Entirely out of curiosity, because I love hearing other peoples' thoughts on my homeland 💕

I have not, I lived in Glasgow and then Norwich, so wrong parts of the island (for me)! Being the usual weirdass American with weirdass American attachments to ancestry, though, I'm mostly Welsh (Cymraeg, correct?) by family history, from Gwynedd - sadly, I don't know more specifically than that. (My favorite of the family history is one of my relatives - his mother and father were both Evans [not known to be related]. 🤣)

(Even funnier, his mother had been married before, and so her surname went back to being Evans... when she remarried.)

That homeland of yours is painfully, unfairly, criminally gorgeous. And don't get me started on the history. Offa's Dyke (so many walls and earthworks and hedges that were various Roman/English people going OH CRAP [Latin: "ohus crapus," English: "oi, mate, they're comin' over the bleedin' walls like they lost the Champions' League!"]), Owain Glyndŵr (I love every revolt against the English where the French are immediately going WE'LL HELP! HEY, WE'LL HELP!!! 👋👋👋 [French: "sacre bleu, we will beat the Engleesh weez our baguettes and undercooked bouef!"], the Cistercian cultural influence, though I also love that the first Christians kind of sidled in and everyone was like "NOPE" and murdered them.

Also had/have some insanely awesome writers - Arthur Machen, Sarah Waters, Jasper Fforde. I'll also let you share credit for Philip Pullman, since Norwich doesn't deserve him and he lived in Llanbedr as a kid.

And a funny story about another of a descendant of Cymru, though I know born in England - John Rhys-Davies. Sadly, I did not personally witness this (I was at work). He was at a local comic-con where we live in the US, and, uh... apparently got quite into it with my daughter, who was eight. I have no idea what they found to vehemently argue about, but they did. (In his defense, she'll argue with anyone.) In the end, she left with this picture autographed to her by him:

(John Rhys-Davies also went to the same university I did. As did Kazuo Ishiguro, Ian McEwan, Tracy Chevalier, and Matt Smith, none of whom I've met. But I did meet Jasper Fforde enough times in enough places that at one point he declared himself my stalker.)

Like many nerdy bookish folks, I'd love to visit Hay-on-Wye, and could offer one of the best bookshops in the US in return (that would be this one). 😁 Haven't made it yet, but one day!

The sad thing is that actually, he’ll probably never experience the same effects & consequences of getting covid-19 as ordinary people have since march. Otherwise, he’d obviously have taken the thing much more seriously. Pathetic capitalist pigs can afford to downplay the gravity of the pandemic (at least, in their public discourse) because they KNOW that the critical situations it causes (ie losing your job, losing an aged or immunocompromised relative, or, you know, DYING because weren’t able/ couldn’t afford to get care) will only affect other people. And if there’s one thing that we’ve learned so far about Trump, it’s just how minute of a space in his head isn’t dedicated to worshipping his own person.

Because he’s protected in his ivory tower of wealth, celebrity and presidentiel priviledges, he gets to carelessly allow a massive fire to spread in his own country, killing hundreds of thousands of people, and when one spark finally touches him, it’s no worry because he can sure he’ll be taken care of. Talk about poetic justice ! It’s effing infuriating if you want my opinion. To a lesser extant, the same can be said about Boris Moron Johnson.

‪trump has never once offered his sympathies to the families of the 200,000+ americans who have died and the millions more suffering physically, economically, and psychologically from the pandemic that he has downplayed and spread misinformation and conspiracies about that have lead to unspeakable misery and a death toll that continues to rise so i will be taking a moment to soak in this small piece of poetic justice thank you‬

I said "so-called DT and SD" because that's just how grammar structure works. I wont be saying "so-called this and so-called that and so-called these", I'll just say "so-called this and that and these" because the way the sentence is structured implies that I'm talking about everything in that phrase.

I like Rise Leo. He's a nice little fella, very nice to think about. Love the swords guy.

What I dont like is the disproportional level of spotlight he gets in the fanbase, especially when compared to Raph and Mikey who, mind you, are just as much of main characters as Leo or Donnie. It's no news that theres a very clear 80 to 20 when it comes to the so-called Disaster Twins versus The Sunshine Duo. I'm Rise only so I cant know if this has been happening since before, in previous generations, so this is a Rise Only view. There are maaaany many reasons to why this is the way it is, some of which are not my place to talk about because it touches on the subject of racism (mixed race foreign kid but still white bitch alert) but @goldenspecter has some Very Valid Opinions on this subject.

Every thing is a Leo thing these days. 90% of "Movie AUs" are Leo focused. I've had countless comments about only Leo in works that are not only Leo- sometimes there isnt even a Leo there. I started Mystic Hands out of spite because every single freaking "someone else goes back instead of/with CJ Jr" AU that was popping up at the beginning were Only Leo.

I like Leo as a character. I dont like the disproportional attention that he gets, and the way the fanbase presents it. It was getting to a point where I was disliking the canon character because of the fanbase- which has happened before to me, so I decided to step back. Block the Leo tag. Don't interact with Leo focused works. The good ol curate my experience, which yall are very much allowed to do. It's simple as that.
