AMD All In for 7nm | 7nm GPUs at 2018 & 7nm Server CPU for 2019
With Nvidia having the Turing RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 and RTX 2070 in the list for releasing in the next coming weeks, gamers are also looking at AMD to announce their next-gen 7nm Navi GPUs for gamers. In the recent reports AMD mentioned that 7nm AMD Navi GPUs will be ready for late 2018 release. In a latest PR from AMD, theu confirmed that they have shifted its 7nm product production to TSMC and also confirmed that its 7nm AMD Navi GPUs will be in the market in late 2018.
AMD has also confirmed that its 7nm server CPU will launch in 2019. it will be interesting to see how well AMD GPUs will perform against Nvidia’s Turing architecture based RTX GPUs. Initial products with second generation “Zen 2” CPU core and new “Navi” GPU architecture are in the list.
We have already taped out multiple 7nm products at TSMC, including our first 7nm GPU planned to launch later this year and our first 7nm server CPU that we plan to launch in 2019. Our work with TSMC on their 7nm node has gone very well and we have seen excellent results from early silicon.
Earlier reported; AMD 7nm energy efficiency, 7nm Ryzen Raven Ridge APUs & more
Anandtech’s coverage of HotChips reveals the slide mentioned in this post. This slide only mentions Raven Ridge 2018. The 2000G series were released in 2018, so the power efficiency thing may actually refer to existing products.
Based on Expreview, AMD set to reveal 7nm Ryzen Raven Ridge APUs later ion 2018. Based on Citigroup analyst report, which describes TSMC production capacity for different nodes. He claims that AMD will launch 7nnm APU at the end of this year. At Hotchips, AMD confirmed more power efficient APUs will be unveiled in 2018. They specifically referred to them as Raven Ridge. AMD clarified that 7nm Vega and 7nm EPYC processors will have the priority for 7nm production. Consumer 7nm products were not expected this year. Also the Ryzen 3000G series would, therefore, follow the path of Ryzen 2000G series, which were released before Ryzen desktop 2000 series.
Reported earlier, AMD+TSMC | Production of 7nm AMD Vega Confirmed
TSMC just confirmed the mass production of 7nm process has begun. The 7nm gen to be used in new products which include orders from AMD. AMD is set to use it vega GPU.
CES 2018 Shows AMD Is Serious | Ryzen 2, Zen+, Zen 2, Zen 3 & Vega 2nd gen
Published by Chinatimes, TSMC has officially begun mass production of their 7nm node at their Fab 15.
The only CPU that AMD has in their pipeline and uses 7nm process is the upcoming Zen 2 architecture which will be a big leap for the company in terms of performance and efficiency. The Zen 2 architecture will be deployed first in the 7nm EPYC Rome processors which are arriving next year and compete favorably against the Intel’s yet to launch, 10nm Ice Lake-SP processors, based on AMD’s internal performance estimates.
Compared to its 10nm FinFET process, TSMC’s 7nm FinFET features 1.6X logic density, ~20% speed improvement, and ~40% power reduction. TSMC set another industry record by launching two separate 7nm FinFET tracks: one optimized for mobile applications, the other for high-performance computing applications. via TMSC
Later this year, GF will use immersion steppers to tape out its first 7-nm chip, an AMD processor. An IBM processor will follow with ASICs coming in 2019, said Patton.
GF made the size of its 7-nm pitches and SRAM cells similar to those of TSMC to let designers like AMD use both foundries. AMD “will have more demand than we have capacity, so I have no issues with that,” he said of AMD using the Taiwan foundry. via EETimes
