Day 209- More gradual progress

First of all, wow. I've made it over 200 days diapered and actively untraining. This has been both challenging and gratifying beyond belief. I keep thinking back to when I was in middle school obsessing over the day that I was going to start doing this.

As I've mentioned in several entries before, my bladder capacity has SHRUNK. The more time elapses, the more I can feel my internal plumbing inching towards my goal of it leaking constantly. I'm feeling more spasms in my muscles down there, which aren't painful but somewhat distracting. I'd best describe it as a slight dropping feeling that's feeling more sustained with time.

In the messing department, I've interestingly gotten in a habit of going a few hours into my work shift. Its luckily a time that there isn't anyone around my work area, and I have full reign of the facilities to clean myself up. I'm getting more accustomed to the reality of messing at work. Sometimes I'll be carrying something across the building or engrossed in a task when this happens and I've successfully been challenging myself to finish what I'm doing and get used to the sensation of a messy diaper. Using plastic backed diapers, waterproof pants and limiting red meat/dairy have really helped reduce smell and issues with cleanup.

As I mentioned in my last few entries, ive successfully wet the bed twice! I'm hoping this breakthrough means I'm going to wake up wet at least weekly soon. I've been drinking water before laying down, and while I'm drifting off to sleep with a sippy cup and making sure to wet and stay still/go back to sleep if I wake up dry.

My first few months involved a lot of trial and error with different diapers, and stockpiling enough so that I don't even have to think about my supply most days. Autoship has been a great tool for this. Being overstocked, and always having a diaper bag wherever I go have done wonders for normalizing being diapered for me. Every day I feel more secure and confident. The more I tell myself "I need diapers", the more euphoric I feel. Every day I need diapers more and more, and eventually I'll be past the point where retraining is impossible. In a way I'm already there because I never see this stopping.

Kindess isn't something that came for free in their world. But with you it seemed to be the case.

They still recalled those agonising months. Stuck apart, tortured. You'd think it would slow down their efforts and perhaps even see the error of their ways? Hardly. If anything it only motivated them. They were week, that wouldn't happen again.

But with the situation and added spite came. . . you. Sweet little you who thought you'd be slaughtered the second they got to safety. While they did interrogate you at first, they quickly came to the conclusion: you were a victim too.

You didn't expect them to get you a nice apartment and set you up with a job as their assistant instead but, life seemed to get easier. Perhaps you made the right decision after all.

They seemed to find quite an interest in you. Was it gratitude? They treated you so gently, made sure you took your lunch breaks, you got a higher pay grade than any other assistant, made sure all of your needs were taken care of.

You found yourself coming to know them on a more personal level too. Suddenly, Jingyi drove you home every other day. Rishen invited you for coffee. You had dinner at their house last Friday.

So tender, so soft, when you knew them for what they really were but. You couldn't bring yourself to care. Suddenly your life was ample times better and all because you extended a hand of kindness.

As such, they've got to make sure that you're always safe. Of course there are cameras in your apartment and trackers on your bags or clothes . . . it's just to repay the favour, you know?

Dinner's next Tuesday, by the way. Jingyi said you should wear something nice.

Brief two week hiatus

As of this writing, Chapter 6 is planned to close with page 209. That means, believe it or not, there's still ten more pages. I've been doing my best to keep up, but even with cutting it down to two updates per week, I have basically squeaked by the whole time. The art for many pages in the last couple months is done the day before it's expected to go up. The more demanding action poses have required more trial and error on my end to make sure they convey what I want. And it doesn't help that I find myself tweaking and adding things as I go to be able to foreshadow things for later.

This morning, I woke up feeling terrible. I believe this is more a case of the changing seasons and me coming down with something than anything, but the stress probably isn't helping. I do want to get this chapter done (for a lot of reasons), but I also resolved to be kinder to myself and take breaks when I need them. And if I'm getting sick, I need to take a break so I'm not working through it and thereby making it harder to recover. That's not going to help.

So…

Two weeks. I'm going to take a two week break. One to recover, one to catch up a little. And then we'll get through the rest of the chapter with no further interruptions. As always, I do apologize for any inconvenience, but I greatly appreciate your patience and support through this. Even if you're mad about another break, just remember this is going to make a lot of upcoming big pages look, feel, and read better. I believe it will be worth the wait.

yes if ilia and yuma both skate perfectly ilia's tes advantage outweighs what yuma could score, but how often does ilia skate flawlessly?? at worlds he scored 208 with 2 miniscule ur -goes and overscored (imo) pcs, but ilia's historically struggled with the 4lo and has had multiple larger errors in a skate (stepouts etc) frequently due to how difficult his technical content is, as well as usually getting lower goe and pcs scores than yuma. yuma could score around 208-209 if he skated his worlds program layout perfectly (and if he lands his 4lz, even higher). he also isn't behind by much at all (3 pts at worlds, with clean skates from both) in the sp (in which i also think ilia's pcs was overscored). he has beat ilia in the fs portion before. he can def do it again--he just needs to put that clean sp and fs together...

i hope he's not pushing himself too hard though, it seems he's been under a lot of pressure lately from his worlds reaction 💔

I feel like this has been the root of Logan's appeal to me. His philosophy. That he's willing to sacrifice his own honor to defend the honor of another mutant. And it often means that his decision-making abilities are fucking insane.

That's why Logan needs a team of people he respects to tell him what to do with his life.

What he doesn't say in his speech, I think, is that he knows everyone is a disaster at the moment and they couldn't survive a full-on war with the Hellfire Club -- especially if it's over an X-Man murdering one of the inner circle. Nothing would split everyone apart more than a hot button issue.

Storm would never have done what he did -- and I think would have found a better solution in Logan's place -- but she understands him and loves him, so she gets to drop some Mr. Spock logic and be all, "I don't agree. I understand." Telling him, we'll talk about what you did later. Right now I have a big-ass mess to clean up. Pray that Rachel is still alive, you fucking lunatic.

And Callisto gives Logan a little room for error. Did he really go for the kill with Rachel, or he was he not able to do it in the end?

(Belated) Binderary Book 2024

My first year participating in Binderary and I'm 2/2 with my goals, albeit slightly late (even with the added leap day).

Goal No. 1: Bind a book!

This fic is an orphaned work, with no author available for me to reach out to. Convenient, since it was a last-minute decision.

Goal No. 2: Finish typesetting the fic that got me into this whole bookbinding/fanbinding hobby!

Bad Boys JEDI Style is a 217 chapter, 908k word "comedy of errors: in which our heroes are recruited to film a reality holo-drama". Much to my despair, the fic I loved had been deleted from every site it was uploaded to, and I was left kicking myself for not having downloaded a copy from AO3.

Shout out to Kam and Lofe, whose wonderful Binderary demos were put to use in the making of this book! Kam's French Double-Core endbands demo was super helpful, sizing up the 'textblock' and components made it easy to actually see what's happening with the sewing. Loffe's demo introduced me to the split-board binding technique and, sleep-deprived hiccup notwithstanding, I think I might find it easier then bradel style binding! Need to bind more books to know for sure (such a hardship 😔).

In other new-s, I took my dad's recent workshop baby for a spin. The bookbinding plough works like a dream! I tried a hidden fore-edge painting for the first time (just a solid colour), but the purple is lost under the Payne's Gray basecoat I applied to the silver painted edges. Adding ribbon to the cover was also new (mostly due to the fact that I never remember until the endpapers are already pasted down).

On the Design

Cover

This is a Team Thunderclap!Ye Xiu AU, so the cover was based on Team Thunderclap's uniforms from the donghua (from the one screencap of the team I found, see below): purple across the shoulders and forearms of their jackets with a yellow stripe down the centre. I added silver ribbon as a nod to the white of the jackets as well as the grey gear of the team's logo. Also in reference to the title: yellow=sunlight, silver=moonlight.

Title Page

The title page stumped me for a while. While brainstorming title page design ideas, I thought about what the title means. In English it's poetic but nonsensical, so I wondered if maybe it held some meaning in Chinese?

As it turns out, it does. Kind of. Maybe. (If I stretch and reach for it, it makes sense). According to a quick search of one webpage for each query, "'White Moonlight' usually refers to a person or thing that is elusive in the heart, has always been loved, but cannot be touched" or "an 'unforgettable first love'." The sunbeam itself might be Ye Xiu, the figurative ray of light, the hero, the gaming idol. Or 'catching a sunbeam' could refer to how "sunflowers turn their heads to catch every sunbeam."

The potential meaning I have cobbled together is how Dai Yanqi turns Ye Xiu's head and captures his heart by sharing the (SanXiu-ified) story of Su Muqiu, the aforementioned white moonlight. Is this what the author intended? Who knows. But it does seem plausible enough to inspire me.

I ended up using both the idea of sunflowers and Thunderclap's uniforms (again). Lightning referencing the team's logo, and also the white colour of a flash of lightning which is kind of like moonlight. The logo's background is blue, as is the uniform as seen on the cover of the manhua featuring the captain Xiao Shiqin (see below), so I made the background blue-purple.

Endpapers

The (not-actually-)sunflowers carried over to the endpapers, as well as the grey colour from the gear in Thunderclap's logo.

Endbands

Kept these simple. A solid purple, as close as I could get to the bookcloth. I didn't want to draw attention away from the stripes on the covers or the silver edges.

Probably could've gone for thicker cores.

The text

For the scene breaks I used a special character of a gear. The cog also looks like a sun. Which is fun because it can reference Thunderclap, the title (sunbeam), and my design choice of sunflowers.

I reused the lightning image at 50% opacity as a background to set apart the backmatter.

Recently, I've begun to increase my efforts of preseving fanfiction and safeguarding the stories I love from purges and takedowns. (Sparked by the December 2023 scandal about Sony announcing an upcoming removal of content including the movies and TV shows that people have purchased).

re: 209 i don't think izzy is "puppeteering" ed or anything like that and izzy is definitely far from a mastermind. izzy is a moron especially where emotional intelligence is concerned. which is why it's fucking FASCINATING we see him directly on screen triggering ed's deepest trauma in the course of just a few seconds an absolutely laser-targeted way.

ed did a big horrific act of violence during his childhood and his absolute deepest fear is that being able to do that proves there's something really really wrong with him and it defines who he is at he deepest level and it means he is unfit for love. izzy sees that ed is emotionally vulnerable, goes to him and basically says "this soft guy who wants to be loved is fake, the real you is a violent monster," then deliberately goads ed into physical violence, then adds "see, i proved it, this is who you really are" and "by the way, being violent is the only thing that keeps you safe." that's not, like, puppeteering ed, but it is triggering his trauma in the cruelest possible way and at that moment, in the emotional state he was in, it was inevitable that he was going to believe what izzy said and spiral in some kind of way, even if izzy didn't control the exact response.

and that's fucking fascinating because of how izzy's an idiot! you'd think he couldn't possibly understand that accurately how to push ed's buttons, especially considering we know he doesn't actually even KNOW ed killed his dad, so he can't know why ed reacts like this. but it's also totally implausible that he just lucked onto that by accident, it's WAY too precisely targeted at ed's specific issues.

this is exactly what makes the edizzy dynamic so delicious. all i can imagine is izzy's been trying to pressure and stage-manage ed's behavior for so long that by pure trial and error he's managed to figure out exactly what buttons to push to get that kind of response from ed even though he has absolutely no idea why they work. and that's fucking fascinating.

Analysis of the Hawkins Post article in S3: twelvegate, Willel, gates and more

I just love analyzing the newspapers.

Finalmoondragon pointed out that in the article Larry is reading in S3, the name of the Mayor is different: Brian Williams. This is like when Hopper says that Martin Brenner runs the lab (1x03), but the name in the article is Richard Brenner. Like the different articles in 1x08 and 2x01, or when Robin reads Vengeful demon killed family, but the title is "Ancient demon", after she and Nancy mention Elvis cloned by aliens. Imo, another hint at different timelines/time loop. Like Henry's line: 'Each life a lesser copy of the one before'. Or the Horoscope in 4x01: 'in the year following your birthday, sending your copy...'

When Steve, Dustin and Lucas talk about Vecna, they even show both the titles. That's why I think these are hints, not errors.

Ok. So, there are so many interesting things in the S3 article. Many mentions of 11 and 12, doors (gates), heat and water, the elements associated with Will and El. Nancy, and even Clarke.

First line: the country's 209th birthday. Birthday, 209= 11

Then the Mayor's name: Brian Williams, not Larry Kline. Plural, like the name engraved on the grandfather clock. Williams is the judge of the competitive Float Contest, and the winners will be announced around 12 noon. So, the article starts with a mention of 11, then Williams and 12. This is really about Willel.

And there are other possible connections. The other judges are: Sherry Milbourne and Robert Franklin. Milbourne-> "mill near a stream" -> the Forever Clock that Dustin gives to Will looks like a mill. And Franklin is also mentioned along with a man named Martin.

Williams, twelve, a mill (Forever Clock), Martin (Brenner), (Upside) Down. And re-elected Judge Franklin might also be a hint at both time loop and powers. Franklin-> Benjamin Franklin-> lighting, electricity, powers. The lifeguard in 3x03: "No one in the pool until 30 minutes after the last strike. You wanna get electrocuted, go climb a tree."

Secretive task... had to move the location... creating new locations for the launch point... Hint at the new gate beneath the Mall?

This is even more interesting. There are two people with the same last name, Fuchs. They must be related, and they both mention kids. I think they represent Joyce, Hopper and their kids, Will and El. Nancy(*) Fuchs and the frequent pool-goer Jeff Fuchs, who says about the pool: 'The pool water did look a little murky, but I figured it was just from kids tracking dirt into the water.'

Fuchs is a german last name that means fox. EDIT: This could be a reference to Michael J. Fox, who plays Marty in Back to the future. Will wears Marty outfit in S1-> so the Fuchs could really represent Willel's parents, Joyce and Hopper. But the fact that it's a german name could be a reference to BTTF as well. Doc's family immigrated from Germany in 1908 and changed their name from Von Braun to Brown in WWI.

(*) If Nancy and her family are related to the Creels... another connection to time.

Also, possible reference to the experiments conducted by Nazi doctors on twins, and a connection to Dr Brenner? There's a mention of a german name connected to him in S1. Interestingly, the english variant of that name is Shepard, the guy killed in the UD that Brenner calls son. I don't think he was really his son, but it's an interesting detail, and that scene in a flashback in 4x08, when El and Brenner talk about Henry.

Anyway, sometimes the name Fuchs is used to describe someone with red hair. A possible connection to Barb, Nancy's friend, who has many parallels with El. Barb died in a pool, El is associated with water. And there are many hints throughout the show that something bad might have happened to her in a lake in the past (my car crash theory)

Nancy Fuchs works for Parks and Recreation. Here a mention of 11 and family. I really think the Fuchs represent the Hoppers, and their life is really an Obstacle Course, lol

But back to the pool, the owners are also related, and one of them is named Steve. In S3, Steve and Robin are the "twins", Tweedledee and Tweedledum. They're too connected to water (the sailor outfits), they're the ones who talk about Back to the future and time travels, and they get stuck beneath the town (the UD). Here some hints at the UD and One, and mentions of doors and leaks.

I'm also intrigued by these mentions of 1-2 (1-2 days, 1-2 surprises) because Murray seems confused about how many keys they need to close the gate. One, no, sorry, two keys. I think this could mean that everybody knows about El's powers but Will is the big surprise. The other key to save the world. Also, firework? Willel are associated with fireworks. They are the Satan's babies...

Other 11 and 12 mentions: 39 still in Beirut... 6:15 am and 11 am... Precautions should be taken to prevent heat stroke among people over the age of 65 and under 12...

...Take time to partecipate in indoor or outdoor activities, like the pool and the Riverforest Zoo (UD?)... Explore your backyard (like the shed? Or is it a reference to the past?) Remember your Hawkins pride...

There is a mention of Lover's Lake and the library, which I'm sure will be important in S5.

And a mention of a girl, Stacey Clarke. S. Clarke. Interestingly, she's 13, like Georgie, the kid mentioned in 3x01 (I'm thinking about Henry "George Smith" Creel) S. Clarke has her whole routine planned out to audition for one of the fifteen spots...

Talent show, kids who have to prove their skills, 15 spots. This reminds me of the lab kids. Yeah, I have some thought about Mr Clarke and his role in the story...

Stardust and The Crow ch 209 Failsafe

Seighdra laughed, uncertain why, but Failsafe's quirky charm had a knack for making even the simplest things funny.  Whether it was the AI's tone or her unpredictable delivery, something about it lifted Seighdra’s spirits.  Failsafe had always had that effect on her, providing unexpected humor in moments when she needed it most.  As Seighdra stood there, she realized that the eccentric AI might just be the key to helping her feel more like herself again.  If Failsafe could maintain her usual antics, Seighdra knew she'd have a reason to smile amid the chaos.

“There!  The impact site… It… It doesn’t look like a crater.  It punched right through the planetary crust.”  Saint-14 observed as they all reached the location.

“Well, yeah… If it transferred kinetic energy like a meteor, I’d be a fine cloud of particulates right now.  Which supports my initial hypothesis that this is super weird.  And there’s my data array!”

Seighdra and the team tried to access Failsafe’s data array but discovered they were locked out. 

“Rats!  There’s a firewall locking me out, and I’m gonna need a Vex energy signature to hack the system.  A severed head will be ideal!  Please decapitate Vex at your earliest convenience.”

That’s exactly what the team did – they decapitated the Vex to collect their heads.  Seighdra grabbed one and aimed for her target, trying to contain her laughter.

“You just ripped its head right off.  So cool.  Now shoot the beam through both nodes at the same time to bypass the firewall.”  Failsafe informed Seighdra and the team.

Seighdra aimed at the nodes scattered around the room while the others fought off the swarms of Vex that spawned to hinder their progress.

“Captain, please bounce the Vex laser off the panels until they hit the nodes.”

“What do you think I am doing, Failsafe?  Painting the walls?”  Seighdra shot back in a snarky response.

“Diagnostics started.  Aaaaand, I am inundated with critical system errors.  Believe it or not, that’s a good thing, heh.  Can’t reconnect without a little awkwardness…Right, Captain?”

It was another round of tearing the heads off the Vex, and this time, Jevar targeted the nodes to bring down the firewall.
