the seaside, as the sun is setting. (maggie to beth)

her boots sit behind her. bare feet touch the very edge of the water. it's clear here. you can see all the way through to the bottom. the only reason she trusts it enough to let her bare skin remotely touch the water. sometimes you never know what you're gonna get when you end up on the shore of a river, a beach or anywhere that the dead might've fallen into. this place, though? this place is safe. this place is quiet and secluded and the dead haven't been seen for weeks. s'why her and the small group set up camp here. making their way back home from getting supplies. something they go further out for nowadays. considering how long they've been where they're at. they've pretty much ransacked all the places within a convenient distance.

she doesn't go anywhere without her notebooks, though. chalk. crayons. any writing utensils she finds throughout the years. she keeps those in her backpack along with some kinda paper she treats as coveted as rich people woulda kept money back before all this mess started to go crazy and people turned on each other worse than the hungry mouths of the rotted walkers turned on you. and she leaves those notes in a trail. always stopping before she gets too close to where they lay their heads. but close enough. that maybe. maybe. one day. it'll land her a face from her past that she's never forgotten.

maggie. glenn. daryl. rick. carl. carol. judith. michonne. someone...

there's been a little trail of them for blocks. ones that even lead to the opening of the beach here. maggie? rick? daryl? carol? enough of the names that anyone tied to the bonds her and her family had would pick it up. i miss you. i was here. love, b.g. one flaps in the wind as the sun starts to set. she hears her name being called half expecting to be told it's time to go. but it's not any of the guys she left with. it's a sound that tells her soul she's been found. but her mind refuses to listen even as her head turns and her gaze moves behind her shoulder to the direction of it being repeated. her hands on her knife attached to her waist when she sees someone running at her.

her fingers jerk away from the blade like it was an oven burner when she makes out the face, though. and she's scramblin' to her feet forgetting her boots in the process. her heart's in her throat. the noise that leaves her throat's not like a sound she's ever made. a partial shout and howl of her sister's name. arms fling around maggie's waist and her face finds the crook of maggie's neck as she finally shrieks out. "maggie?!?! how? it's you?!" the muscles in her arms tighten, pull her closer--harder--so hard she feels them burn and it's the best feeling ever. "you're here."
