Actually im changing my mind. They need to lean into gender more. Gladiator 3: Time for Elagabalus. Written as if every slandor against him was true. A scene where after eating blue dyed dophin brains at one of his mandatory banquets the attendees are crushed to death by 2 tons of rose petals. She changes pronouns at least 4 times throughout the movie and executes whoever guesses wrong. Royal wedding to that chariot rider that everyone has to pretend not to be pissed about. His evil mom is a main character who is also gay. The nun he married is also a main character who is gay. Gender affirming surgery somehow a sucess that doesnt end in sepsis. Chariot races in the palace. Theme of the movie is laying bare the sham of masculinity/roman social norms/ appeal to the glory of the past as a tool of social control that is conceling a rapidly declining empire that is failing because of an inability to adapt to the present and therfore the future. And also inflation. Sadly the cowardly paramont pictures will probably put some eyeliner on him and rinse/repeat the last few movies

This got a couple of responses referencing Beckett Mariner.

I love Lower Decks, and I think it is great Mariner is portrayed as bi. I have two small issues as it relates to me, though (because everything has to relate to me, right?)

First, I have a hard time accepting Lower Decks as canon. It is a good, intelligent, funny, and wonderful show ... but canon?

Using just one example, getting-a-metaphorical-hard-on-from-blowing-shit-up Will Riker of the Titan, while fun to watch, is a cartoon version of the Riker in TNG and Picard and extremely hard to take seriously. I just can't. So I have declared it non-canon. Which doesn't really matter to the matter of bi inclusivity of the original post, but I just wanted to throw that out there.

(You aren't wrong, though, @capslog1701 and @ineffable-hufflepuff - the show is "officially" canon and Mariner claims attraction to a variety of genders [and species].) (On a further side note, I wonder if there is a label in the Star Trek universe for people who are attracted to aliens. There almost has to be. The need to label every aspect of personality, sexuality and identity seems to be a universal trait.)

Ignoring my proclivity for picking and choosing what to accept as canon, the important matter is, yes, Mariner is bi (I'm not going to argue about labels and for the purposes of this post pan and bi are synonymous), which I think is fantastic.

Beckett, though, is apparently a cis woman. The experiences of a cis bi woman are not the same as the experiences of me, a cis bi man.

(The assumption that Mariner is cis is just that, an assumption, but she is female presenting and uses feminine pronouns, so for the point of this post I will assume she is cis - or at least that in the Star Trek universe there are no terfs and "cis" as a term is no longer useful or relevant.)

@ineffable-hufflepuff makes a good case about Discovery. I would point out, though, that while the show is intentionally being inclusive of the lgbt+ crowd, it hasn't been kind to bi men (at least through season 3 - I just got myself Paramont Plus for Christmas and haven't started season 4 yet).

Stamets is gay. Which is a wonderful bit of representation, btw. However, the evil Mirrorverse version of Stamets is... wait for it... pansexual.

So here we have this show which normalizes gay relationships, breaks boundaries by having a non-binary character (and cast member), draws ire from a certain type of fan boy by not having a Straight White Man as a current main character... and it still follows the old gimmick of using the Mirrorverse to turn a character bi.

Sad face. Sad face for me.

Still a good show, though. I'm going to watch the crap out of it as soon as I have some time to binge.

As a bisexual Star Trek fan it has not escaped my notice that just about the only canon bisexual characters (not counting Trill body-swapping) are in the evil mirror universe where everyone is evil, from which one can only infer that bisexuality is an evil trait that only evil people have.

As one who is, I repeat, bisexual, I would like to state for the record... this is 100 percent completely true. Now please excuse me, I'm on my way to a puppy killing contest and then I have to collect three more souls for my Satanic cult.

Really Save & Improve By Expanded Healthcare For All

I have at least two preexisting conditions so the voting on the ACA demolition has my attention. First off Healthcare is not a partisan issue so do not make it one. The NoPublicans already voted to exempt themselves from changes to tbe ACA. So they will keep their ACA Insurance Marketplace paid for by the taxpayers, the same plan they want to take away from you. Senator Mike Enzi R-Wyoming bristeled when the Democrats contended that the NoPublicans supposed ACA replacement did away with the Preexisting Condition coverage. Enzi said that was a lie. Well Mike your contention that the Preexisting Condition is still covered is at best a half truth. It is dependent on which version of tbe bill his team puts forward. The TrumpDon'tCare plan makes Preexisting Condition coverage optional for the States. Depending on who controls your State Government you may or may not have Preexisting Condition coverage. We need to keep preexisting condition coverage. FYI: Being female is a Preexisting Condition. I was very nervous last night as we were losing vote after vote on changes to the ACA. They wounded it badly by taking away the individual mandate and coverage of employees in companies over 50 people. All these changes are scheduled to take effect 1/1/2018. We did win the last vote on the Skinny bill with 3 NoPublicans voting to join the Democrats and not send a Skinny bill to the House which was ready to pass it. I watched CSPAN 2 till 1:00 am this morning. After Paul Ryan said he was open to talks if the Senate passed a "skinny repeal" the House immediately voted to not have to go to commettee; they made going to Committee one of the options possible. This was after #45 said he liked the Skinny ACA Repeal Bill best and was eager to sign it. I forget what it was called but it is like the Nuclear option. So you know that as soon as the House got the Senates Skinny bill it would just pass it. Mike Enzi gave a 39 minute long speech on the evils of Obamacare. These NoPublicans are continuing to put ideolgy over sanity concerning Healthcare. Any bill that takes Healthcare away from 16 to 30 million people so the top 1% can get a tax break is not a good Public Healthcare policy it is just a tax break. How much money is enough? How rich is rich enough.? Hard to believe Cheetolini thinks this Skinny Bill destroying the ACA is anywhere near to his campain promise to expand insurance coverage with a plam to make it cheaper and cover everyone.
