Hi Hi
I've been reading a lot of your stuff and I love your fics and takes, obviously love Legend and I wanted to ask your opinion about a theory I heard
Because of how time travel works and the cause of the split between the adult and child timelines being the cause of the Ocarina and the absence of The Hero's Spirit, people argue that the downfall timeline is placed a bit akwardly. However if you take things literally the branch of the downfall timeline, "The Hero is Defeated" is just slightly above the other branches in the official timelines.
So the theory goes that the Downfall Timeline is the original course of events and Time's adventure(specifically getting locked away until he was an 'adult') was the result of The Hero of Legend's wish at the end of A Link to The Past.
Some people, myself included, see this as plausible because young heroes have also been able to pull the Master Sword without getting knocked out
I thought it was interesting and you have some interesting takes and opinions so I thought I'd ask, sorry for the long ask, and any mistakes I made typing this
OH MY FREAKING HYLIA!!!! MAY I STEAL THIS?!?!?!?!?!
I am.....writing a fic where Time gets to realize that he split the timelines to create Legend's world, but currently speaking, all he knows is it was a version of him, and in world, I have no clue what explanation would make sense for him to have both died but also still be alive in another timeline, except that maybe there are alternate universes, but this makes so much freaking sense?!?!?!?!
Legend, the Greatest of Hylia's Heroes (quote from Nayru), a child pure enough Fi's blade was never heavy in his hand, a rabbit sacrifice to the goddesses; their savior and slave both; makes a singular wish to undo all that Ganon did, and it freaking brings back the Hero of Time himself from the dead, and rewrites things so that he has a chance to live?!?!?!?!?! The...I....please?!?!?!?!?!
I WANNA INCLUDE THIS SO BAD!!!!! PLEASE ALLOW ME TO WRITE THIS!!!!!
#asks and answers#linked universe#linkeduniverse#lu legend#dear hylia this fixes so many plot holes#and my gosh the themes!!!!!#it works so well with the themes dear heaven1!!!!!!#i need this like i need water#or air#MY SOUL CRAVES THIS!!!!!!!!

Oh waiter! More TaiShauna!
I don't know if TaiShauna's a "rare" pair, but people hardly talk about them (from what I've seen). I love a ship that works just as well platonically.
Oh how their downfall gets me every time... I need to have a chat with the writers of s3.
TAISHAUNA COMING IN HOT!!!!!!
I think they're pretty recognized when they're brought up BUT they're hardly brought up.. boo tomato
I genuinely grieve them just as much as jackieshauna and taivan because all of them have this specific dynamic of having 'a person.'
while i think lottieshauna really hones that idea of filling the hole of a DEAD lover/'their person', I think taishauna really shows off how connection grows when your person is alive, well, and you just don't know how to talk to them.
i dont want to belittle taishauna to how they relate to jackieshauna&taivan but i really think acknowledging the relation MAKES the relationship stronger. tai is seen as shauna's CHOSEN friend, a person to confide in without the weight of.. well... the jackieshauna stuff... similarly, (more so in the adult timeline) tai speaks to shauna in place of her romantic partners.
of course, their plotline of tai's sleepwalking was quickly handed off to van after jackie died but, they quickly picked up the dynamic in the adult timeline, with tai visiting shauna and getting away from simone. again, dropped and handled off to van. yjs writers...
i think their writing related to shauna is FANTASTIC in demonstrating chosing who helps you, and tai's just wavered off a bit.
also they would've been SO interesting pre-crash. taijack captain tension except your bsf is DATING your rival.. van feeling inadequate bc tai chose someone SO similar to her.. dynamics dynamica DYNAMICS!!!!!!

A bunch of ink studies and sketches.
I love Tiny's nose. It's so fun to draw. And I think I'm getting a handle on drawing him as a kid. He's an adorable little weirdo with a thousand-yard stare.
Ravio is another one of my favorite Zelda characters, I like the idea that he's a heavily sarcastic scam artist who also makes one of the most harrowing ethical choices ever seen in a Zelda game. While wearing a bunny hood. Also Sheerow is the most competent one on the top row.
I've been trying to figure out everyone's height in relation to each other, and wow, the downfall and adult timeline Links are tiny. To some extent with video game heights you just have to accept that getting exact values is a fool's errand. Oh sure, you can pull out the model and measure it, but then you have to account for the fact that there's lots of size multipliers applied to models that can change throughout the game, and that the entire world might not quite use the same measurements as ours, plus stylistic differences, and... yeah it's hard. It's pretty clear most Links are tiny (except Tiny, who ends up being huge canonically) and I'm going to make Ravio about 4'7" / 140cm. Since it's hard to reconcile the wide range in sizes of Hylians, I think there's just a tendency for some to be very small, just like the Gerudo have a tendency for some to be very large, and certain ethnic groups have more or less of this. The ones surviving in the harsh environments of flooded and downfall timelines tend to have more of the smaller Hylians.
In the middle we have Link from OG Zelda and Adventure of Link. He's probably even shorter than Ravio. I've given him a Phrygian cap, which is pretty cool and loaded with symbolism. I've also drawn his fairy form, and tried to keep the curly hat shape. He's green because of course, but also a little red for the color shift when he uses the shield spell.
At the bottom we have a rough idea for a shadow beast from Twilight Princess, because they were hugely influential to me and one of my favorite designs ever, though I think I have to refine this further.
Also a maneless lynel! No thoughts only big kitty.

[sighs peacefully] the great ace attorney........
this could be recency bias, but people weren't kidding when they said tgaa chronicles were the best games in the aa series. cases 3, 4, and 5 in the second game managed to completely leave me in awe at several moments. even with the first kokoro case being my least favorite, there are still things i like about it. i believe the cases being inspired by (if not explicitly adapting) holmes stories is a point in its favor. like the first game, i still felt some pacing issues, but i don't mind them as much this time because there were less of them And the story was more than engaging enough that i can ignore them 🙂↕️
alongside apollo, ryunosuke is now definitely my favorite defense attorney, and one of my favorite aa characters overall. he is so earnestly human, it hurts. i also really like that unlike most other characters we play as, the reason why he wants to even be a lawyer starts to shift after kazuma's return as a prosecutor. even without the shipping lens, the asoryu dynamic makes go insane (compliment). however, i find how ryunosuke interacts with other character like susato and his internal monologues to be equally interesting. truly the guy of all time
now with case 5 specifically, i kinda got gant vibes from stronghart for a while, but of all the things that made it 100% click, it was stronghart's freakyass clapping animation. even though i feel that gant has the stronger personality of the two, i also like stronghart not because of his actual character, but of what he represents: the general idea of going way too far to achieve a goal made in good faith. stronghart imo was already pretty out there with him wanting to be attorney general that bad, but i don't think the whole "assassin exchange" and "framing an innocent japanese man for several murders to protect a british noble" things were day 1 plans. though, it says a lot about him that he didn't just. consider Not Doing All That, but at least it made his downfall all the more satisfying
uuuh, i've talked about just about every other major character before except for barok, so let's end it here. i was expecting not to care about him at first. i held that opinion throughout the first game i think because he gets explored more thoroughly in the second. for me, a token tragic prosecutor backstory(tm) hasn't felt more Real to me besides edgeworth, franziska, and nahyuta's (and maybe godot's to a lesser extent). with van zieks, it obviously doesn't excuse his racism of course, but i at least Get why he is the way he is. as wild as aa plots are, i really like that his whole ordeal is depressingly realistic. i also like that he doesn't magically become antiracist at the end. if there's ever a 3rd gaa game in the same timeline, i would kill to see how he and ryunosuke act together outside of court. would be really interesting, i think 👀
and yeah, that's it! bittersweet feeling of not having another game to react to now. fortunately, with the franchise being almost as old as i am, there's still a lot of other aa media to look forward to in the downtime. i'd be so excited if we get a new game within the next few years, though. i'm content without one, but professor layton has a new game releasing this year, so really, anything is possible :D
welcome to the club, erlande. tgaa [sighs wistfully].
i totally agree with you, the same thing pretty much happened to me once i finished the game. those last three cases were exciting and surprising and truly managed to tug at my heartstrings as well, just an incredible game all around. and true, tgaa2 flows a lot better than tgaa1--which by itself is a bit clunky--but once you see it all as a whole, it very much shines. and absolutely, the holmes inspo worked incredibly well with the ace attorney universe!
GREAT taste, ryuno was such an amazing character! i always tend to love the protags, and he's no exception. and you're so right, i love me some shipping, but that's like, just one facet of all the incredible relationships he develops with the characters around him. him and susato have such a sweet bond as well, i love their friendship too!
personally, i think stronghart might be my least favorite part of the game, but like......i still think he's such a fun character, and as you said, his motivations and faults make him super interesting. this game is just woking on such a high level overall lmao. but yeah, loveeee an ends justifies the means kinda guy :)
BAROK--btw did you see that moment in case 3 were ryuno and iris are in barok's office and they're kinda just roasting his ass, all while he's there like.......guys. very funny--WHAT A GUY. agreed, i wouldn't say he's my fave prosecutor (miles and franziska to me are just MWAH my faves), but once you hit game 2 he really starts to feel like a real person and less like an evil vampire prosecutor (well, there's still a bit of that lmao). honestly, i kinda love that they don't shy away from racism in this game, just like they don't shy away from suicide and other difficult topics. it feels real, makes him seem more like a flawed human than a mere character, and the fact that it doesn't just magically disappear and will likely take some time for him to unlearn is a pretty good choice. would loveeeee an investigations sort of game with the london crew post tgaa2, it would be soooo cool.
but yeah, you're all caught up now! you're ready to join us all with the clown makeup and the fake clown titties for the next nintendo direct for the annual aa7 manifestation lmao.
#YAYYYYY im so happy you liked it. i mean who doesnt. it's truly a fantastic game.#juli answers#tgaa#dgs#ace attorney

I see you have done some really thoughtful metas. What're your thoughts on Nie Mingjue? IMO he's a lot more complicated than he's usually assumed to be...
One of my classic absurdly late ask responses! Glad you enjoy the meta.
I think NMJ occupies a fascinating place in the narrative, because his ultimate fate is inevitable despite the fact that he theoretically has more agency than most (all?) of the rest of the main cast.
For a start he becomes clan leader at a young age, and while that comes with its pressures it's undeniably an influential position. He's the leading general of the Sunshot Campaign. Then, after the Sunshot Campaign, the Nie and the Jin are by some margin the most powerful clans. So, in a political sense NMJ has immense power. In theory he has the ability to make far better choices. He could stop persecuting JGY, who literally has no choice but to follow his father's orders, and he could choose to focus his ire where it belongs: on JGS. And he could also choose to counter JGS in ways that don't push the jianghu back to the brink of another devastating war.
Except he can't make those choices. And I want to make a strong distinction here: he is not like other characters such as JGY or LXC or JC, whose choices are limited by their clear understanding of their own limitations and the political landscape (including but not limited to the fact that a post-Sunshot descent into war between the Nie and the Jin would be catastrophic). No. NMJ's choices are limited because by the end of the Sunshot Campaign his mental capacity is irreversibly compromised.
Not only is NMJ terminally ill, but we're given clear examples of contrast between NMJ early in Sunshot and NMJ late- and post-Sunshot. Pre-Sunshot NMJ understands the Wen have political and cultivation power that utterly outclasses him and his clan, so he stands by and tolerates their existence. He knows it would be suicide to go up against them, and it's only when the Wen cross a line and all the clans unite that he's able to actually do anything about the fact that WRH murdered his father.
Contrast that to NMJ by the end of Sunshot, so irrationally obsessed with JGY that he's willing to jeopardise the hard-won (and fragile) stability of the jianghu by trying to kill him. Reminder: when NMJ kicks JGY down the stairs, he starts to follow him down with the express intent of killing him. As in, he fully intends to murder the legitimate son of his main political rival and an immensely powerful clan leader on the steps of his own home. That is ludicrous. Pre-Sunshot NMJ wouldn't have done something like that for his own beloved father, let alone for a grudge.
All of NMJ's flaws are obvious from the earliest point of his timeline: he's proud, he's inflexible, he's righteous but he's hypocritical. But early on we see examples of NMJ bending a little, of recognising nuance and showing, in his own inelegant way, his compassionate side. By the end, that's gone. The fan-burning incident alone (the fantrum!) demonstrates it. That's the way he treats his beloved didi, never mind how he treats his san-di.
Of course the narrative claims JGY can always talk NMJ round, but it's simply not true. In the end, the only way JGY can preserve himself is by making NMJ a promise he can't keep (to deliver XY's head) in order to buy himself enough time for NMJ to die and no longer be an immediate mortal threat. If JGY had not accelerated NMJ's decline, NMJ would have killed him and plunged the jianghu into another needless conflict.
I've spilled ink on the staircase scene already so I'm holding back on digging into this in more detail, but the fact is any discussion of NMJ's downfall is inextricably tangled up with JGY. The focal point of NMJ's descent is his obsession with JGY in particular, and it's important to remember what's relevant is not so much what JGY has or hasn't done but how NMJ treats him.
I do think one of the best ways to put it in context is to compare the way NMJ reacts to WRH to the way he reacts to JGY. WRH literally kills NMJ's father but NMJ has a cool enough head to know he has to bide his time. JGY on the other hand absolutely does betray NMJ's trust, in a situation where, again, if he does as NMJ wants (turns himself in) he's going to end up dead. And from that moment on, NMJ has no intention of giving JGY the benefit of the doubt. Yes, after LXC intervenes (remember, JGY would be dead without that intervention!) NMJ backs off and ends up agreeing to the sworn brotherhood, but he enters into the brotherhood in entirely the wrong spirit, seeing it as a way to monitor and subjugate JGY, who is already answerable to his father over and above any obligations to an elder brother.
Would NMJ at fifteen years old have listened to LXC and JGY's explanations in Qishan or later on the stairs at Golden Carp Tower? Possibly. But we don't have any examples of a time when he truly listened to JGY, and he was always going to end up this way regardless, taken out by a qi deviation and turned into the stuff of nightmares. JGY accelerated an existing process to save his own skin, but he didn't invent it out of whole cloth. So the tragedy of NMJ is not what JGY did to him. It goes back further than that, to when his ancestors first started cultivating the resentful energy of beasts.
Even then, contrasting NMJ to another character is illuminating. The text tells us NHS is in a bind: if he cultivates with his sabre, he's dooming himself. But if he doesn't cultivate with his sabre, he's pissing off his ancestors. The instinct then is perhaps to think—poor NMJ! He's in the same bind!
But NMJ never has a moment's doubt about sabre cultivation. NMJ knows the price and he pays it without question. NMJ doesn't agonise about how to balance his duty to his clan and his ancestors against his desire to not go violently insane. He accepts it as a fact of life and never thinks to question it or push back against it. He marches down the path that extirpates all his good qualities and leads straight to his worst self, and never so much as glances around in the hope of sighting a different way.
Again we're getting to that tension I find most interesting about NMJ: agency rubbing shoulders with inevitability. NHS finds a way to lead his clan and Word of God become Xiandu without cultivating with his sabre. Does that mean NMJ is responsible for his choices and he can't be absolved of his actions by blaming his inheritance? I don't necessarily have an answer for that, but I hugely enjoy exploring the question.

LEGEND OF ZELDA TEARS OF THE KINGDOM: FOUR FUTURES AU
OVERVIEW
An oc-centric TLoZ TotK AU of my own creation featuring my character Judias Skylark and the four primary/potential outcomes of his entanglement with Ganondorf and how his presence effects Link’s adventures and the fate of Hyrule (although perhaps not by much). If you care about spoilers, maybe don’t linger around this blog too much because there will likely be some sorta major ones.
My special little tag for this au is
#totk four futures au !
welcome to Four Futures!! i hope you find my silly mind stories interesting :)
MORE INFO BELOW
MINOR GENERAL LORE CHANGES
- The monsters around Hyrule that were summoned when Ganondorf turned into the Demon King in the original lore already existed beforehand here — just not as prominently as after the Demon King’s rise to power.
- Rauru appointed the Sages before Ganondorf’s betrayal, just shortly after his pledge of fealty. They were appointed to assist in watching over Hyrule, helping it grow, and fending off the occasional monster attacks.
- I’m not sure how long it actually was between Ganon’s pledge of fealty to Rauru and the night he killed Queen Sonia, but I’m gonna say in this AU probably was a bit longer than it was in the game. I don’t know if we even get how long the time frame between those two events was in the game but… idk in this AU I’m gonna say it was probably at least a few months or so. i dont have EEEVERYTHING figured out leave me alone
JUDIAS’ BACKSTORY
The story more or less begins back during Hyrule’s founding era! Judias was a Hylian born into the Shiekah tribe, and for a long time, he was a traveller and spice trader as well as a monster researcher before meeting and soon after getting romantically involved with Ganondorf, whose plans for Hyrule’s Downfall were either still just barely brewing or more or less completely secret at that point in time. Eventually, Judias started working with Rauru and the Sages for his monster research, because he believed that there was potential for good in all beings and wanted to find a way to tame the monsters, or at least get them to become less hostile.
For as long as they’d been together, Judias loved Ganondorf genuinely and believed (hoped) that he felt the same way (whether he truly did or not is sort of on the fence, but at the very least he seemed to. My current thought is that he at least had a soft spot and felt a certain sense of protectiveness and loyalty for him and liked his company, even if nothing else.)
After making significant progress in monster taming and even learning how to communicate with some of the monsters of Hyrule, Judias was appointed by Rauru as the Sage of Change, and he got his own secret stone!! (which on his design I placed in the small headpiece on his forehead, notably in the same spot that Ganon’s ends up being when he steals Sonia’s stone except in the opposite orientation. theyre matching. they fit together like the yin yang. marvel at my genius.)
And of course, as the name of the AU suggests, there are four different possible futures in store for Judias. i love timeline stuff sm teehee
THE FOUR FUTURES
FUTURE 1: In the very first face-off while Judias is torn between helping the other Sages fight the Demon King or staying with his partner, Ganon takes the initiative and steals him away, and in the process he falls ill because of the Gloom. Ganon ends up, against his own better judgement, carrying Judias around in a fabric bundle on his back (trying to convince himself it’s just to keep him from helping the other Sages and to keep him weakened and totally not bc he looves him and wants to protect him) while wreaking havoc across Hyrule — and a majority of this time Judias is just sort of struggling af and periodically drifting in and out of consciousness — until he gets sealed away by Rauru, and Judias ends up getting sealed with him. Until the Upheaval, of course, where Judias wakes up, crawls out of a chasm or whatever, and befriends Link, intent on trying to give Ganon some sort of redemption, and, if that ends up not being possible, reluctantly agreeing to help Link seal Ganon back away for the sake of the rest of Hyrule.
FUTURE 2: Judias was torn briefly between helping Ganon or the Sages, but ended up joining the Sages in trying to seal him away — had to look away while Rauru was sealing Ganon away in the imprisoning chamber (☹️), and in the far future he assists Link a little bit as a spirit (maybe somewhat similarly to Mineru since he was also a sage?), not quite having the heart to pass on to the other side completely yet, and maybe gives everyone’s favorite blond swordsman a cool new power or something…… ✨
FUTURE 3: Judias was torn again but ran away instead of making himself pick a side, and after he’d heard of Ganon’s sealing/imprisonment, he was blinded by heartbreak and got a little upset (just a little bit) and went on to become the founder and first leader of the Yiga Clan (k maybe he was a bit more than a “little” upset)
FUTURE 4: Another result of his heartbreak due to Ganon’s imprisonment, but also not wanting to outright harm the innocent people of Hyrule, Judias consumes his secret stone and becomes an immortal dragon in the hopes of someday seeing his partner again in the distant future, even if he won’t be himself anymore. (crying and sobbing loudly)
I HOPE THIS INTERESTS SOME PEOPLE <3
Have fun watching me post art, maybe some comic pieces, and perhaps developing this AU some more! and let it be known i love answering questions and comments <333

Succession of the Third Kind - LU AU
The Chain begins to learn about the Downfall Timeline, and the secrets Legend holds. Ao3 Link Here. After the Finish the Prompt thing I did I suddenly got inspired to write this. Well, I’ve been trying to write this before, but the first version was literally just one sentence and the second I just did not like. Focusing on Legend and eventually the doppels once I get to them. The abandoned doppel is the only one here so far.
This is not sci-fi, unfortunately. There are no aliens. Sorry if the title mislead you into thinking that. Four/Vio’s POV.
Chapter 1 - Four’s Successor
The reveal of Four’s ability to split went far better than he thought it would. Vio looked out at how Wind was running circles around Red, his kid curiousness taking full force as he asked them loads of questions. Red tried his best to answer them, but he kept looking at Vio for help. He was the smart one after all.
But Vio preferred to just sit down and read a book, rather than interact with people. Blue was arguing with Warriors and Twilight about something stupid, Time and Sky were off to the side and looking after Red and Wind, and Green was chatting with everybody else.
Except for Legend, who was leaning against the next tree over. Staring at him.
“Are you wondering why I’m not with the others?” Vio asked without looking up from his book, but he wasn’t reading anymore.
“Kinda,” Legend answered, still not looking away from him. Does he even blink? “I’m just thinking.”
“Hmm. Nothing important it seems.”
“You don’t know that.”
Vio sighed and closed his book, looking over at Legend. His face was blank, blinking seemingly manually at odd intervals. Did he always do that or was that a new thing? Hopefully it was a new thing.
“Are you okay?” Vio asked, more confused than concerned.
“Eh, I’m fine. You?”
“Obviously,” Vio stood up, “But you seem like you’re trying not to fall asleep or something. No one’s forcing you to stay awake you know?”
“I think I’m your successor,” Legend dumped out of nowhere. Vio blinked a few times, stumbling back. He knew that they obviously weren’t on the end of the timeline compared to the others, but he couldn’t yet figure out where in the timeline he was. If Legend only just figured it out-
“You have the Four Sword, don’t you?” Vio asked, having regained his composure. Legend slowly got off from the tree, stretching, looking away from Vio. He waited for the veteran to speak, he was patient.
Vio looked back over to the others, the joyous scene continuing from before. He remembered that Four still hadn’t revealed the whole shrinking thing, and wondered about what would happen when he did. They’d probably let him ride on their shoulders, and coo at how small he was. Yeah, that’s what they do.
“Happy at the scene, or that I could be your successor?” Legend asked, making Vio straighten up. He didn’t know he was smiling.
“The scene. And we still haven’t confirmed that you’re my successor.”
“That’s fair. Just depends on whether you’re…” he trailed off, grimacing. He looked over at the others, staring at Time for a bit longer than the others before continuing. “Don’t tell anyone about this,” Legend stared at Vio until he nodded his head in agreement, “But I know of the Hero of Time. He was before me, but I’m not sure if he was before or after you.”
“Well I’ve never heard of him so-“ Vio stopped abruptly. If Legend wasn’t his successor, “-Is Time my successor?”
“Could be,” Legend had the same blank look on his face as he stretched again, “But he clearly never heard of you.”
“But you have?“
Legend makes eye contact with him, briefly. His eyes carry as certain sadness to them as he spoke, “I’ve…been to your tomb.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
“Well that’s not too surprising, I guess,” Vio waved off the way his stomach had dropped, “Of course I’m dead by your time.”
“So was the Hero of Time.”
“Now how long we both were dead is the important question.”
“I…think you could’ve been dead for longer.”
“Then Time’s my successor.”
“Seems like it.”
“And you’re his.”
Legend flinches. Vio doesn’t understand why he would. Was he just wrong about that then?
“Are you Twilight’s-“
“Third option.”
“Wha-“
“Third. Option.”
Vio’s brain works quickly to figure out what Legend’s trying to say. Twilight is one of the options, Time is also an option, and then there’s Wind. But he obviously isn’t Wind’s successor, and Time and Twilight are somewhat close in time. Twilight and Wind are both Time’s successors from two different timelines, but a third timeline could exist. That was the third option.
“A third timeline!” Vio’s eyes widened, a smile encroaching upon his face as he figured it out. Legend laughed heartily.
“Yeah. I was thinking about telling Time after we all figured out the timeline stuff about both Wind and Twi, but…"
“Something happened to the Time before you.”
“Annnd that’s why I’m talking to you now. I’m just hoping you won’t tell Time.”
“So you’re withholding the information you know about me over my head, so I won’t tell, aren’t you?”
A moment of silence passed. Vio looked at Legend right in the eyes, his blank look annoying him. That’s Vio’s thing damn it.
Unexpectedly, Legend laughed, a sly sort of laugh, accompanied with a sly smile. He had to have picked up on Vio’s thirst for knowledge, his need to know more, he had to. He still didn’t know if Legend had the Four Sword. Or what happened with Time. Or why Legend was in his tomb. Vio needed answers. He needs it.
“If I was Blue I would’ve strangled you,” Vio said a nonchalantly as he could.
“Uh huh, sure, sure,” Legend waved his off as he looked at nails, “Listen, I’m telling you this because I can’t tell anyone else. Even though I’m technically Time’s successor, I feel more like I’m your successor. I know more about you and that sword compared to anybody else here. Except you guys of course.”
“…What do you know about it?”
Another moment of silence passed. How annoying. But he must have a reason for this. Vio sat back down on the ground, letting out a sigh. He returned to his book, and a while passed before Legend speaks again.
“So, why are your names so basic?”
Well that definitely wasn’t what Vio was expecting. Might as well answer this since it’s not like the veteran would answer any questions he had. Not like he had anything better to do. Might get him to open up a bit more as well.
“We were around ten and Red couldn’t think of anything better,” Vio closed his book again, “At least I think it was Red, I could be mistaken. What names would you choose?” Legend scratched his chin, thinking. Whether he was actually thinking or not, Vio couldn’t tell.
“I…would name us after the goddesses,” Legend began, already baffling Vio yet again, “The red one would be Din, green would be Farore, blue would be Nayru, and purple would Hylia, now that I know of her because of those guys.” Legend gestures over at Wild, who was currently running around with Warriors and Red, all of whom had Fire Rods, with Sky, Twilight, and Green chasing after them. “Should we check up on them?”
“Us,” Vio said simply, “Name us.” Legend made a strangled type of noise. A Freudian slip, was that what’s it was called? Vio looked at Legend directly in the eyes again, the blank stare now gone, uneasiness clear as day.
“I never used the Four Sword,” Legend quickly spat as he crossed his arms, looking away from Vio’s inquisitive stare.
“I never said you did,” Vio said with a small smirk, “Who knows, it could be something different, yet similar to my experience. You are my successor after all.”
“…Yeah, I guess I am.”
Their conversation ended there.
▲
“Alright, whose time is this?” Time asked. The group looked around the forest they were now in. It was a pleasant and rather normal looking one, save for the logs large enough for a person to walk through and the random swords on pedestals dotted around the place. The one next to Four was made out of cardboard, for some reason.
“It’s my time,” Legend said. That immediately excited Four. The last time they were in his time, it was brief, only being in his house for a few hours as they met Ravio. Then the black blooded monsters appeared as well as the portal, so they left without even seeing most of Hyrule.
And now Four knows this is his future, one of his futures, at least. He was a little curious about where his tomb would be. A little sacred as well.
But first they needed to get out of the forest.
“We’re in the Lost Woods, north of Kakariko Village. And don’t even bother with the swords-they’re worthless,” Legend said, annoyance tainting his voice for some reason.
“These remind me of my first attempts at making a sword,” Four remarked, poking one of the swords, and it wobbled like paper. Actually, this one was made out of paper. Why? Who would do this?
“How likely are we to get lost in these ‘Lost Woods?’” Wild asked, leaning over Legend, who scoffed.
“Not likely, it not that big,” Legend grabbed Wild and went over to grab Hyrule, pulling them both along. “Just follow me, I know the way out. We’ll be in Kakariko in no time at all.”
“Thank you Legend,” Time spoke, “Don’t wander off you lot, just follow the veteran.”
And so they did. Four held the back with Twilight and Wind, Warriors and Sky near Time, and Wild and Hyrule were with Legend.
The vet lead them through the logs, the occasional fucking crows being the only monsters they encountered. It was a nice and short walk all things considered. Four could see Wild pick up a few swords that were made from actual sword materials, and Four got a couple as well. They were shoddy, to put it nicely. But he could probably salvage something if he had the right tools. Soon enough they were out of the woods.
“Alright guys, we’ve made it,” Legend announced once they all filed out. Four could see the village in the near distance. It would likely take less than an hour to get there.
“Woohoo!” Wind cheered once he stepped out, “When are we going to your house Leg?”
Warriors snicked, as he always does when someone calls Legend ‘Leg’, “Yes Leg, where is your home and your rabbit-themed friend?”
Legend groaned, “It’s east of the village. Let’s just stop there and restock or whatever.” He slumped over as he made his way towards the village, mostly ignoring how Wild and Hyrule tried to talk to him.
“Do you think he’s okay?” Wind asked as he leaned over to Four and Twilight.
“He could be tired,” Twilight looked over at the vet, “But he has been acting strange lately.”
“Yeah! Ever since…” Wind trailed off as he looked over at Four. “I-I mean who knows when he started being a grump you know-“
“Wind, it’s fine,” Four sighed, “It’s…a bit complicated.”
“He’s your successor isn’t he?” Warriors suddenly appeared behind them, causing them all to jump.
“Gah! Wars!” Twilight lightly slapped Wars’ arm, glaring at him. He chuckled and rubbed the back of his head nervously.
“Whoops, sorry,” Warriors said with a smile, “I just saw him talking with the purple you for a while, so I assumed you must’ve had an important conversation.”
“Like Legend being Four’s successor?!” Wind looked very excited at the thought, before his face scrunched up, “But when are you guys in the timeline? Probably before Time, right?”
Four shrugged, putting on the best poker face he could. Which was much easier when it was just Vio doing it.
“How about we talk about this after we find a place to rest,” Twilight reasoned, “Also, we’re falling behind.”
The four of them rushed to catch up with the others.
Four soon figured out he was right about it not going to take too long to get to Kakariko. The streets were lively, the people were nice, although a one did run away from them-from Legend. Legend proudly stated that the woman had once reported him to the knights after he was framed for kidnapping the princess, when he was ten years old nonetheless. Now she was way too scared to even go near him, and everyone seemed to hate her. Four also hated her now.
Everyone restocked on their resources, and Four visited the blacksmith with Legend and his posse. The blacksmith and his family were very nice, not looking down on Four like most blacksmiths usually do. Four and Wild gave him the swords to to melted down, which wouldn’t give much useable materials because of the way they were made. But Four didn’t really mind that. He and Wild payed the blacksmith, they all said their goodbyes, and went out to find the others.
Four and Legend didn’t speak to each other the entire time they were there.
Night soon arrived, and with it, the gaggle of heroes arrived at Legend’s house.
“I’m home Ravio!” Legend called out as he opened the door. Immediately, Ravio’s little bird, Sheerow, flew right into his face. Some Links-especially Wars-laughed at how much Legend was taken aback by it.
“Mr. Hero! You’re back!” Radio called from within the house, “Come in, come in. Oh! And I see your family has came along again as well.”
The group headed in, and noticed that the place was a lot neater. It looked like there was slightly less stuff, but most of it was there, either organized in neat boxes or large, nice display cases. Everyone immediately started to wander about, each trying way too hard to stop themselves from touching everything. Four did not know why they were like this. Four did not know why he was like this.
“Did you move my stuff?” Legend sounded like he was trying to hold back his anger. His hooded friend shrunk back, holding his hands up in defense. Sheerow was now perched on top of his head.
“Listen, listen. I can explain, alright? I simply reorganized everything because I kept tripping on everything,” Legend shrunk back this time, a bit embarrassed, “It’s simply safer this way.”
“Some stuff is missing,” Wild muttered. How he noticed, Four didn’t know.
“Oh! I put some things in the basement. I also made a basement!” Ravio said cheerfully, Sheerow chirping along.
“I wonder if there’s anywhere to sleep,” Sky asked.
“I wonder too!” Ravio said, still somehow chipper, “I have made myself a cot to sleep on,” he gestured over to the dark purple mattress at the uppermost left corner of the room, “I don’t know where your bed went Mr. Hero, but I forgot to ask you before you left.”
“You didn’t find the attic?” Legend asked. He was fiddling with a yellow cape with red accents.
“There’s an attic?”
Legend sighed as he strode towards the upper right corner, slinging the cape on. In a swift motion he pulled out his sword, half-swording it and hooked the cross-guard onto something. A quick pull and a set of stair fell down to the floor.
“That’s the attic,” he stated simply. A couple of them oohed and aahed. “Now, I’m going to sleep in my room. Have fun!” In an instant, Legend jumped up, higher than usual and it quickly clicked in Four’s mind that it was because of the cape.
Everyone was surprised, no being able to react in time to stop Legend from going up into the attic and pulling up the ladder, cackling like a mad man as some of them-mostly Ravio, Time, and Sky-tried to get him to stop and be normal. It didn’t work as Legend was successful in locking the attic door behind him, and no one could unlock it.
Four noticed something on the wall near the door hatch. He resolved to check it out later.
“…Well,” Ravio twiddled his thumbs, “I can make some room for some sleeping bags! Free of charge, since your Link’s…family.”
“I don’t wanna sleep in a sleeping bag again!” Wild and Wind both whined.
“Ravio,” Warriors snapped to get his attention, “Is there any space in the basement?”
“Well, yes, but it’s cold down there. I uh, I can-was going to move these boxes down there, but if some of you help, I’ll give you all discounts for future purchases!”
“Well-“ Time began before being quickly cut off by Wars.
“Of course! Why wouldn’t we help? Come on men! Let’s assist our merchant friend.” The rest of the Links sighed. Of course they would help but it not like they wanted to move boxes all night before they could go to sleep. It’s not like it would take too long with all of them working together, they just wanted to go to sleep as soon as possible.
Legend was a lucky man indeed.
After clearing enough space, everyone obviously went straight to sleep. Ravio was the only with the bed, and it was clear that he felt a bit bad about it. Would’ve felt even more bad if Warriors didn’t keep encouraging him the whole time. What was the deal with that? But nobody really questioned him, because fatigue was starting to get to all of them.
But Four couldn’t sleep. He said he’d go out for a walk before he did and no one objected. In reality, he was going for a bit more than just a simple night walk.
It didn’t take long to find one. A Stump Entrance. A Minish Portal. Jackpot.
Four stepped on the stump and shrunk down, falling in between the cracks of the wood. He had missed jumping on the mushrooms within these Stump Entrances. The tiny stones that once framed the portal door with were worn and chipped, maintenance having stopped long ago.
But the Minish were here, he knew it. Where they’ve gone now, he didn’t know. He at least hoped that they were still around long after he was dead. They were no longer in Hyrule, or this part of Hyrule. As he made his way back to Legend’s house, he wonded how Ezlo was doing, what could’ve happened to him. He thought about Vaati, who once was a Minish as well. Did Legend know about him? Had he ever even heard of the Minish?
These thoughts continued once he finally got to the home. There was a small door near the front door, big enough for only Minish to go through. At least they were still here when the house was built, at the very least.
Four had to be very careful when traversing around the home. It was like a maze to avoid his sleeping companions, to not wake him up. After a terrifying time of almost getting smacked by wondering hands, he finally reached the corner the attic door was at. And Four silently cheered when he noticed the very worn engraved steps going up the wall, with a tiny hole up on the top. He was very glad for his Grip Ring, but he still almost fell down numerous times. But he eventually got to the attic.
The first thing that pulled his attention wasn’t Legend, no. It was a mask that he’d only seen before in the hands of Wild. Four now understood why Legend thought it was one of a kind. And now he understood it really was dark magic.
It was covered by a glass case, hanging upon the top of wall. Shaped like triangle, fitting perfectly between the roofs. The dark magic still seeped through, barely, but Four could feel it in his tiny form. He forced himself to look away, for fear that it’ll convince him to try to covet it’s power, like how Time had once described the legend behind it. The old man knew more about that mask than just that legend, even if tried to make it seem like he didn’t. Why did Legend have this mask? And how did he get it? Was it all connected to Time?
Four turned his focus to Legend, the scene before him being a surprising sight. He was sitting on a wooden stool, a stone statue the same size as the vet in front of him. It looked like him too, except for the outfit and hair being much more simple and blocky. It was chipped in various places, and Legend was repairing them at a rapid pace. It must’ve looked a lot worse before he started working on it, Four knew.
The statue had an odd mask on where its face would be, two large hollow holes for the eyes and a smaller one for the mouth. There was…an aura, around it, that Four could sense. Not really an actual aura, per se, but a feeling, a feeling that made it seem more than just just a statue. Like it was alive, yet resting, somewhat similar to an Eyegore Statue and yet very, very different. It was like it was in a deep slumber, like it was never alive to begin with yet it’s heart was beating proudly.
An odd sight for Four’s eyes.
Four wandered about the attic, looking around Legend’s quaint room. The closet was slightly ajar, enough for Four to see what was inside even if he wasn’t Minish size. But if he was normal size, he wouldn’t be able to jump inside of it. There were a lot of colorful outfits inside, and he felt a bit overwhelmed. The closet was also much bigger on the inside, like an actual walk-in closet. Legend really did love his magic items huh. The outfits were also probably magic items as well, due to the fact that Four couldn’t ever imagine Legend wearing full body tights. One of them was the ugliest thing he’d ever seen, and the other was clearly based on Tingle.
There was also one that looked a bit like Time’s armor, with a mask hung next to it that had the markings that Time had on his face, except the red markings were under both of the eyes. The eyes are painted to be entirely white, an odd, but important choice to note down in Four’s opinion. But it was yet another thing related to Time, Legend’s actual predecessor. Yet he told him that he felt more like Four was his predecessor, despite having so many things connected to Time. He still hasn’t found the Four Sword. And despite his efforts, he couldn’t find it within the closet. He did, however, find a number of different tunics in different colors. Most of them green, but there was a certain set of tunics that caught his eye.
The tunics were simple, each having matching, lighter shirts of the same color. There was a swirl on the belt buckles, reminiscent of Wind’s. There was a red one, a green one, a blue one, and a purple one, the last one looking newer compared to the rest.
Before Four could question why that was, Legend suddenly opened the closet. The tiny blacksmith quickly ran to hide underneath one of the many different robes. Peaking from underneath the robe, he saw Legend grabbing the purple tunic he was just looking at and walked out. Four scrambled to follow him as quietly and sneakily as he could.
Legend thankfully didn’t notice the tiny hero behind him as he walked over to the statue, now fully repaired in such a short time. Or it could’ve been a long time, spread out across many months or many many years. He put the clothes onto the statue, an anxious look on his face as he did so. Four was also a bit anxious, deciding to wait this out before tying to figure out what exactly was going on.
Legend cheered silently as he finished dressing the statue. Four found himself cheering alongside him.
“Looking good Hylia,” Legend whispered with a wide smile, “Hylia. Yeah, that’s a good name for you.” He sat down on his stool, examining the statue from there. Four inched his was towards the hole near the door, since it seemed like Legend was almost done with this.
“I just need to figure out how to make you like the other two,” the other two colors, Four noted, “But I don’t really want to go back to Hytopia. Hmm…” Legend bit his lip as he thought about what to do. Four was finally at the hole, standing in front of it. Without a warning sign of any kind, Legend glanced over to the attic door, to where Four was.
The both of them froze. Legend definitely noticed the colorful little speck that stood out like a sore thumb against the wooden floor. The vet’s eyes were wide, but didn’t move much other than that. Four didn’t want to move at all, his mind racing on what to do now. Legend kept staring at him, wide-eyed and unblinking, for the longest time. What was less than a minute felt like hours as Four became more and anxious about what his friend would do.
Legend inhaled sharply as he pressed his lips together, leaning back and closing his eyes.
“Well then,” Legend spun towards the statue, leaning forwards, propping up his head with his hands, “I suppose I could figure out something with the Four Sword. That could help. But that’s something for another day, don’t you think?”
Four fervently nodded, but he didn’t think Legend could see that. Either way, he then ran out out the attic, slowing his fall down with his Roc’s Cape. He was able to glide away a good distance, soon able to go through the small door, go to Minish Portal, turn back to normal size, and return back to house through the normal door. As quietly as he could, he wormed his way into his sleeping bag.
He couldn’t fall asleep. All he could do was wait for night to pass, and process what just happened.
His shadow was definitely laughing at him.

Oh…That’s a wonderful piece of lore but now that’s going to be a doozy to fit into the main story (mostly figuring out how long each Abyssal were alive before they were killed by the Guild or Lateria). Also ignore the different avatar, I did encounter this convo before in my playthrough but didn't get the chance to get screenshots :')
And HC Abyssal timeline below
Venefelis (1,000-0): The real polecat (HC that she has phantom paws cause she has Pummel in her skill list :) and Operation Kill the Witch. Of course, after being forced to stay in the timeout corner for 1,000 years, she became really existential about her own existence, her creator's absence and trying to figure out why the Abyssals were made except being overpowered cannon-fodder.
Rotramus (700 [-300 yrs.]): Considering that the Guild would be at its infancy and still aware of Venefelis' impact, it makes some sense if they started hunting down Rotramus to prevent a repeat incident. Also consider he's a twisted mirror to Nara's personality (anti-human but will possibly answer any question to anyone that finds him) and might've been a rip-the-bandage creation due to Nara's infamy with her family's downfall.
Pluvean (500 [-200 yrs.]): Yet another pacifist Abyssal that was found by Palmaya and just waited for the Guild to kill him (but I like to believe he discovered Cadium at some point and was disgusted by the humans "corrupting the waters"). Even if he's the contrast to Arqua's short temper and drive for human adoration, Pluvean is also a bit snippy about stating the obvious and being revived past his expected lifespan.
Inominox (400 [-100 yrs.]): And just when the Guild develop a false sense of security with dealing with the Abyssals, Inominox comes in with the big guns and starting picking off any weak tamers he could find (possibly making the Frozen Tundra his main hunting ground). But with Ventra's pride and cockiness spelled his downfall when the Guild intervened during one of his attacks. But whether the victim was too traumatized to recall his trigger or the information was lost to time, the Guild was back to square one when the Abyssal was revived.
Helevolk (350 [-50 yrs.]): Of course, there's not a lot to say about Helevolk besides being a more unstable version of Fona despite having a surprising amount of mental/emotional strength (mainly with him breaking through the N1 Nightmare mind-wiping to an extent), but it's a bit of a mystery on how he got his name despite being just as mindless and violent as a normal Nexomon [Hele: "to hide" + volk: "army" or "person/people"]. And I assume Lateria killed the beast by redirecting his tunnels or cornering him in the tunnels.
Caelesa (310 [-40 yrs.]): But to make matters worse for the Guild, they have to deal with another pacifist, human-avoidant Abyssal that will surely make them doubt their anti-Tyrant campaign. Of course, there's no real explanation how she was taken out or how long she evaded the Guild (and/or Lateria), but she clearly had enough time to believe that humans were dumb and violent brutes that have nothing better to do in their lives besides hunt what threatens them (though mostly directed at Finn the second he explains the Guild’s history with her). And fun fact, despite Caelesa being Normal-type (like Metta), she has a interesting set of elemental moves under her belt (also like Metta) so do with that info as you will :) [Base moves: Rocknite Blast, Thunder Blast, Plasma Star, Psy Field]
Volcel (280 [-30 yrs.]): Then after that wild-goose chase comes the giant electric moth(?), also being human-avoidant but will also mock everything and everyone below him for being simple earth-dwellers (really embodying Luxa’s superiority complex, huh?). While there isn’t any concrete evidence on how he was caught (since the Guild jumped to making a standard Tyrant bait), I’ll assume it was Lateria and their extremely heavy ordinance.
Braccus (260 [-20 yrs.]): Here comes the boy~! :D And unlike the older Abyssals (and being the second-youngest), he’s the only one that specifically mentions hearing his creator’s voice and learning his mission to attract the world’s attention by any means necessary; which he easily turns to destruction and carnage (becoming the Grunda he was meant to be) until Xanders “Bare Hands” Nexomon killed the beast and earned his Gold Tamer promotion. Also his dex entry mentions him destroying multiple cities before reaching Lateria and/or Grunda’s Chasm, so I’m betting he started his rampage at Royalle City since a “unnamed Tyrant” was the reason for its downfall.
Kroma (250 [-10 yrs.]): And finally, Operation Kill the Witch: Electric Boogaloo. And what better way to complete her life's mission is to plop her right into the Immortal Citadel while having the handy-dandy ability to mind-control ghosts. Whether she can control both human and Nexomon ghosts is up to debate, but I'm all for her being a tiny menace using the IC residents, the Greater Drake Krainnull, and Ulzar himself when the going got tough with Deena the one-woman army.
Either way, I mainly followed the Abyssals locations on Precursor Mountain from furthest left to right (apart from Venefelis being past Kroma's position), though it's extra funny that both Braccus and Kroma's places are almost melded together (with the haunted woods being halfway through the Braccus’ maze) so that's kind of where the idea came from. Either way, how in the world was I supposed to expect that these two were the YOUNGEST!?!?

And I love that this were the first thing I thought of (if anyone’s willing to make an artist’s representation of the disaster siblings, I’m all for it :)

LoZ - Inheritance of the Cycle
I tend to think that Link, Zelda, & Ganondorf are all reincarnating.
But not just reincarnating, but reincarnating through their own bloodlines.
And I recently learned about something that would give a decent explanation for why. At least for Link & Zelda.
Epigenetics.
See, epigenetics says that when an animal or person experiences stress as a result of something, their young will be more adapted to combating whatever caused that stress in the first place.
This happens even if that young is conceived long after the stress is gone.
So, logically speaking, this would mean that because (in my hc) the Triforce Trio are always the biological descendents of at least one of their predecessors, this new incarnation is biologically more prepared for their destiny. At least, Link & Zelda always are anyway.
Because this would mean that Link & Zelda are more ready to protect Hyrule in every subsequent reincarnation.
Even Wind Link is a descendant of a previous Link, just not Time Link. Rather, he's a descendant of Four Link if we concider his family's shield being identical to the sheild that Dot won for Four to be a possible indication of such.
I believe that the game said that it was passed down in their family "from the hero." However, I don't think it really ever specifies which hero.
Of course, because of this, almost all Links are also related to their Zeldas (at least, somewhere down the line) due to Sky & Sun getting hitched. After them is Four & Dot, Hyrule & his Zelda (he has both Dawn & Aurora, but I've zero idea who he's paired with), Wind & Tetra, Spirit & Phantasma (from Spirit Tracks), Warriors & Artemis, then Wild & Flora who I believe also all got married to each other.
Though, thankfully, almost each reincarnation is at least 100 years apart from their previous incarnation.
In fact, the only Links we know are related directly are Wind & Four, then Time & Twilight. We also know that Wind, Legend, & Hyrule aren't Time's direct descendants due to Wind being from the Adult Timeline (in which Time was sent back in time & thus left behind no children to take his place in the Adult one unless he did some "extracurricular quests") & Legend & Hyrule being from the Downfall Timeline (in which Time, presumably, died before having left behind a child; again, unless he got up to some "extracurricular questing").
Though, I very strongly hc that Wild is descended from Twilight & that Rusl is a descendant of Four.
Other than that? I only know that each Link is descended from either First or Sky & Sun in one way or another. Just not if they are descended from any other Link.
Zelda, though? We almost always know that each Zelda is descended from the previous Zelda. Except for Dawn, who is almost certainly descended from Aurora's brother.
However, OoT Ganondorf didn't get the option because I believe that he was the first.
Either way, Ganondorf almost never gets to provide his successors with this particular benefit due to either being sealed or getting killed in the only fight he has with Link. And due to the way that epigenetic works, any children he may have had before fighting Time wouldn't have gotten the benefits of the stress of fighting Time because, obviously, Ganondorf wouldn't have fought him yet.
Except for WW Ganon, who could've had a kid during the time before facing Wind, which would give HW & TotK the boon from WW Ganon having faced Time in battle.
It's also possible that so could TP Ganon if my theory that he escaped being captured in the Child Timeline before being arrested is true. Because in such an instance, there was most likely a 7 year war between Time returning to the Child Timeline & Ganondorf being executed because I believe that Time was the one who managed to defeat Ganon & retreive him for judgement in the end.
Though, the only real evidence of this is the fact that Young Ganondorf is portrayed with short hair, but the Ganondorf of TP has long enough hair to be able to put them in grandma rollers (I cannot unsee it & I will never let him live that down) & the fact that the Hero's Shade is shown wearing what appears to be heavy armor. Of course, these 2 details could very well be entirely unrelated, but I'm proposing that they aren't.
In such an instance, so long as he left behind an heir during the Era of Twilight, then it could still work.
It'd certainly explain how oddly powerful TotK Ganondorf becomes.

Epoch Moon Backstory (Long version)
Ya'll actually did it. Okay. As promised, here is the longer version of Moon lore. I'm not very good with rainworld lore no, none of this is tied to anything canon to the game, for the love of christ DO NOT spam my inbox trying to correct me. Everything has been written months in advance so there will be no changes unless it proves to be an obstacle in future posts. So sit back, put on some music, because this is going to be extremely long. How does this universe work? Simple! This universe takes place before the Rivulet campaign (don't worry they still show up in this timeline. All iterators are able to leave from their cans at will with no restraints. They have the ability shift into animals their creators designed them from. Their superstructures are mobile (yes i'm letting these mfs move) and are able to traverse the land long as they're close to resources such as ground water an void fluid. The cities are wrapped in a gravity that keeps it from tipping over or falling off. The rot is curable in this universe but only if cured within a short timespan. I hope this helps.
The beginning-
In the beginning, when the iterators first emerged, they served their creators known as the ancients. The ancients, who held the first generation by the throat, gave no hope for individuality. LTTM and other iterators of her generation had no concept of mentors. Instead, they were self-taught and guided by their administrators. The ancient who mentored her was named Spangled Sinking Dagger, four hundred flowers. belonging to the House of Silhouette, count of 8 living blocks, Counselor of 13, Mother, and spouse, and the true founder of the Congregation of Moderated Dedication. Also, she was a legend, and was the administrator responsible for LTTM's creation, oversaw Moon teachings. In this universe, iterators have three stages of growth, and the role of the senior respectfully. The puppets being a small part of them were meant to interact with the real world, but they can grow into whatever size suits them best depending on the conditions and environment the ancients placed them in. Moon and her creator's relationship, basically parent and child, was not a very cherished one. Spangles' teachings were very strict, keeping Moon on a tight leash and making sure the iterator stayed on course in terms of finding a solution to the great problem. This did cause trauma, as Moon only knew to obey and never ask questions out of term under any circumstances.
However, the maintenance worker, Five Webbed Clouds, a spiraling anchor, was responsible for maintaining the stability of LTTM's superstructure and would then go on to help build Five Pebbles. Five Webbed Clouds was much kinder to the iterator than Moon's creator. He was the only ancient Moon who had any real physical connection with helping Moon's personality develop. It does not come without its setbacks. The ancients believed their creations were incapable of expressing emotion, merely imitating it for the sake of communication. Moon was one such exception. Despite being one of the many first iterators created, she was not limited in terms of emotions. Many iterators hardly even noticed Moon's behavior, as they saw it as natural - until someone pointed it out. Her behavior of showing more compassion and empathy than the standard iterator, thanks to her maintenance worker who gave Moon more permission to develop her personality, drew other iterators towards her rather than away. Though some had doubts, such as an iterator that went by "Enlightened Overturned Silk," who joined Moon's local group not too long ago speculated that Moon's kindness would inevitably be her downfall in the long run, but was brushed off as harmless by the majority.
The original members of her local group were Sliver of Straw, Chasing Winds, and EOS, along with others. Later, Seven Red Suns and Sig joined the group as the youngest members before the arrival of Five Pebbles and UP. Moon worked hard to build an empire based on friendship and determination, creating a sanctuary for all forms of life. Because of this, she earned the titles "Mother Moon" and "Queen Moon," with all the fourth-generation iterators looking to her for comfort and safety. As Moon matured, she realized she didn't have an apprentice of her own, even though she was told that it was not necessary for seniors to have one. However, Sliver insisted that she should have a successor since there was no one else to become admin after her should anything happen under strange circumstances or natural causes. This made taking on an apprentice seem like a good idea? LTTM was originally planning to take on Seven Red Suns as an apprentice, but he was taken under the wing of EOS instead, with the trust that EOS would teach Suns to the best of his abilities. Overall, the local group had become a refuge for troublesome generation 4 iterators. She was more than willing to let them in, as her group was able to shape them into what iterators should be. They were then released back to their mentors, but this time with much more personality and individual freedom. This allowed them to make a significant mark, prompting all local groups to replicate these methods. Everyone agreed it was best not to traumatize the youth with what they had to endure when they were younger.
Moon's first apprentice was Unparalleled Innocence, a spirited, feisty fourth generation iterator who was spoiled yet poorly maintained by her creators. Moon, being a merciful iterator, brought Para into her local group and took on mentoring the young iterator herself. With the arrival of Five Pebbles, Moon was overjoyed, considering Pebbles as a younger brother. Pebbles was the last fourth generation iterator to be created, and their cans were so close to each other Moon was default his Admin. Moon introduced Pebbles to the local group with open arms, giving him the nickname "young prince" as she was already nicknamed a queen. She hosted a ceremony to make him feel welcomed, just as she had done for all the newest members.
Everyone reacted positively, except for Unparalleled Innocence, who didn't like the idea of the young prince taking up Moon's time. Later on, Moon found it tough to juggle work and mentoring. The responsibilities of being a senior were much more stressful than watching over a rebellious teenager. Moon couldn't manage both at the same time. The task of teaching was then passed on to Chasing Winds, who kindly offered to mentor Para until Moon could return. However, this arrangement didn't last long, as Para proved to be difficult and too stubborn for Grey Winds to handle. The young iterator saw their work as meaningless and boring, desiring more entertainment and excitement, which was an insult to their purpose, especially because it was based on pacifism. This caused Grey Winds to give up on mentoring Para after she rejected his teaching style. Moon tried her best to find someone in her local group to mentor Para, but no one was willing to take on the challenge of handling such a troublesome individual. Everyone, except Seven Red Suns, had already taken on the duties of mentoring Moon's troublesome brother, Five Pebbles, who had reached an age where he questioned everything and became rebellious. Para would be no different. Suns didn't mind, for he had already corrected this behavior through specific methods of discipline with Pebbles. They were mildly violent, yes, but Moon approved of it as it was the only way to try and teach the two their place within the local group. Moon knew Sun's silent aggression was enough to combat Innocence's loud ferocity and hopefully tame the little fox into becoming more modest and less quick to assumptions that lead nowhere.
As the great ascension began, Moon didn't have an attachment to her creators as they left for the void sea. She made sure that every last one left her city and never returned. The cycles she had to endure by her administrator encouraged Moon to do the impossible and she was the first to break free from her umbilical, standing firm before her creator as she ascended the elevator. She mocked the ancients that had spent their entire existence tormenting her. They cursed Moon's name, but it didn't matter, as Moon's act of rebellion became the reason she became an echo, forever locked in their prison to be mocked by Moon out of spite.
The maintenance worker that built her had sealed himself in a stasis pod deep within her structure, instructing Moon to never wake him up until a specific amount of cycles had passed. Moon didn't miss her ancients at all. She respected them, yes, but missed them? No. They were just parasites on her back with opinions.
Grief and healing
Moon felt proud of Five Pebbles and Innocence, for they had come a long way since unit 1, becoming very intelligent yet maturing iterators thanks to Suns. On this night, it was supposed to be a time of independence and celebrations for iterators who had finally found their place in the world, free to do whatever they pleased. Little did Moon know - this would be the last time she would ever see Sliver of Straw again. Five cycles later, Sliver would send out the "Triple Affirmative" never to be seen or heard from again. The signal shocked every local group to their core; a solution had been found, but Sliver had died before she could even explain. Moon was heartbroken. The love of her life had just died before her eyes without any explanation. She knew Sliver was close to a solution, doing everything she could to help, promising a future where they could ascend together. But she hadn't expected she would find it so soon. Instead of using overseers, Moon made the journey to Sliver's can herself, in denial that her love had truly just "died." She wasn't the only one.
Billions of iterators. Young, and old. Who saw the triple affirmative and considered Sliver a leader, inspiration, a friend, made the journey hoping it wasn't true and that they could somehow save her ignoring they were miles apart from each other. Moon was the first to arrive, but it was already too late. LTTM, her local group, and all the local groups, present or via overseer, gathered together to mourn Sliver.
Moon made sure that Sliver's puppet was taken care of, as everyone pitched in to create an altar around her body so that all of them could mourn her properly, as the first iterator to ascend. Only NSH stayed behind and helped Moon mourn. Moon had no choice but to move on; her local group needed her, for it would have been what Sliver wanted if she was still alive. That also didn't mean that she would find companionship in someone else either. Sig was more than happy enough to fill that missing hole in Moon's heart as he eased the senior from spiraling into depression.
Despite the initial challenges, the discovery of a solution encouraged many groups to continue their work as iterators. However, it also led to divisions among the groups. The Sliverest group focused on investigating the cause of Slivers' deaths, hoping to replicate a solution. Meanwhile, the anti-Sliverest faction accused Sliver of Straw of betrayal and opposed any discussion of the self-destruct taboo. Those who disagreed were silenced or removed from chatlogs. Although Moon opposed the creation of the Sliverest group, she saw value in their role. The data pearls left by Sliver were stored in a secure room within Sliver's can, and Moon was the only one with access. The Sliverest group was tasked with protecting Sliver's can from anti-Sliverest iterators. Access to the room was restricted to Moon and other trusted admins.
The incident...
Work continued, and she and Sig would form a formidable pair. They wouldn't do anything without the other. Moon insisted that Sig become an admin, but for that to happen, he needed to take on an apprentice, which he had never done before. Another local happily gifted one by sheer luck. The role could have gone to Seven Red Suns for taking on two apprentices at once while managing a large workload. However, after witnessing his crippling sanity and the banishment of EOS for malpractice and physical/emotional abuse, he was proven to be unfit for seniority due to his unstable mental health. This sparked conflict between Seven Red Suns and Sig. Moon tried her best to explain the reasons behind her decision to Suns, but they blamed her for favoritism, leading them to never trust Moon's word again. During another meeting, a fight broke out between him and his brother Chasing Winds, one that she had to promptly break apart.
What Moon didn't know was that her late wife's death would cause her brother, Pebbles, to fall into madness himself. He started bringing up very unusual topics and theories that were not aligned with the main issue, thinking outside of the box as younger generations of iterators tend to do. This behavior concerned the entire local group including his sister Moon who could only discouraged Pebbles from speaking on such subjects instead of scolding him. Meanwhile, Suns, still holding a grudge about his canceled seniority against Moon, would do something that would ultimately lead to an event that would cost Moon her life. (You already know what happens) Five Pebbles began his experiment, causing Moon to panic as he took a large amount of ground water shared within their territory. Despite multiple attempts to get Pebbles to stop, he had cut all forms of communication. Moon was unaware of why he was doing this, but it marked the start of her slow, agonizing cycles of dehydration as Moon's eternal systems began to fail. Moon pleaded with Pebbles to stop his experiment, even using her senior privilege to force a broadcast and beg for her life. However, Pebbles was merciless, with his only goal being to break the taboo and end the cycle. He ceased all contact. Moon's last message was broadcast with the help of Spearmaster, sent by Seven Red Suns to restore her communication tower. Her words were heavy an labored- begging, pleading for anyone who was listening to help her, but there was only silence. Just as Moon's legs were beginning to buckle on the brink of collapse, No significant harassment, loyal as he always had been, ran on foot with his slug Hunter to her aid. Using his virtual panels, he managed to stop her legs from breaking, sealing them together with all his strength, despite almost being damaged in the process.
But he was not the only iterator who had answered. Another iterator, Fire Epoch from the Oasis local group, the first and only of his kind whose can was mobile, had traveled for nearly 45 cycles at maximum speed after hearing her plea for anyone to help, caught Moon's superstructure (literally and physically) from hitting the ground. Everyone around the world sat in wait, hoping and praying that LTTM had not collapsed.
Moon was awakened by Hunter, who had brought a neuron containing slagkeys created by Sig, bringing LTTM back from her coma. However, for a moment, while floating in the celestial plane of nothingness, Moon was able to see Sliver of Straw. Their reunion was brief, but she cried happy tears to see Sliver again, and they shared a long embrace. Before she could even ask Sliver how she ascended, Moon was pulled back into the land of the living, with a new perspective and a new personality.
The majority of Moon's memories would suffer a fatal error, forever erased from existence. This included personal memories of her and Sig being together, tarnishing their relationship as Sig attempted to help Moon recover her memories. Yet, the damage had already been done; the only relationship she had known to have was with Sliver. Fire of Epoch spent cycles repairing the damage to Moon's legs. Even her rarefaction cell was missing and could not be found or recovered. Five Pebbles did not contact Moon once during her time of recovery... Beloved by many, other groups were willing to pitch in and help the best they could, costing them thousands in supplies and resources to help in the repairing process to fix what had been broken. The good news was a random modified aquatic slugcat Rivulet was found with the rarefaction cell in the depths of the groundwater under LTTM. No one knew where it came from or who sent it, but it had successfully brought it back in one piece. Moon named them Ruffles.
Thanks to Fire epoch, every iterator's superstructure was upgraded to became mobile. Now, iterators could join their local groups and live together, combining entire cities into empires if they wished. So that the situation of collapsing would never happen again. It was the greatest mass migration of biomechanical masses ever seen on the planet, as the earth shook under their legs. The world didn't feel so large anymore now that they could move along its surface no longer restrained to their shackles.
Regret, despair, the madness...
The situation had become critical as both Five Pebbles and UI had contracted the rot. Moons could still be connected to Pebbles and, if not cured, could spread to her as well. For some reason, UI's illness was worse than Pebbles, but Moon cared deeply for both iterators' well-being more than ever. They demanded answers, wanting to know how this could have happened? However, as NSH explained the situation, her mood turned to anger upon learning that it was Seven Red Suns who had created the pearl that caused this calamity. The truth was that Seven Red Suns had planned an assassination on NSH, not LTTM, by disguising the forbidden taboo in the form of a coded purpose organism that, upon creation, would give Sig the rot. But his slugcat was intercepted in the mix by someone else, causing both Pebbles and UI to become infected. Moon gave Suns a second chance—if he cured both Pebbles and his late apprentices' rot, he would be spared. It was a good thing he heeded her warning. As for Pebbles, she could forgive him for wanting to escape, but she could not forgive him for his lack of showing her any mercy.
He was punished with exile, (basically muted) and he had to leave the area, being denied from ever speaking in the local group. Before exiling him, Moon did her duties as an older sister going as far as to stay by his side until his rot was completely eradicated, wanting her little brother to be safe as a last act of kindness before he carried out his sentence. Knowing Pebbles would never forgive her ever again, she was not in a position to show weakness as everyone in their group now questioned her inability to lead. Cycles after she was filled with a sense of relief being notified that he was found by Chasing Winds who took responsibility of looking after him until further notice.
Moons main focus was on the well-being of her local group. However, she found it odd that, after her supposed 'death', only a few members of her local group had contacted her to express concern about her well-being? Suspicious, Moon allowed Sig to infiltrate private group chats using an anonymous ID. What Sig discovered revealed Moon's increasing insanity. The chat logs, recorded on each active date, began to provide a clearer picture. The individuals Moon had spoken to for cycles, the ones she had trusted, were all traitors. They were part of the anti-Sliverists, with the soul purpose and goal of infiltrating Moon's group to identify her weaknesses and gain information for a planned assassination. If they could get close to Moon, she would grant them access to Sliver's can, where they could destroy the archive data pearls and eliminate Sliver's puppet, ultimately getting rid of the traitor.
Their plan was halted when Five Pebbles, so-called 'completed the mission for them.' Moon was described as weak, clinging onto Sliver's death as if she were a prophet. Spending too much time protecting the traitor was considered treason, making it a reason she was not fit to be senior. There was a debate on whether Sig or Suns was the better outcome, knowing they would fight over Admin after her death.
Breaking point
Something within Moon- SnApPPed! After all she had done for her local group, this was how it all paid off. Her kindness, generosity, sympathy, compassion and endless sacrifice to provide them with a sanctuary of comfort well as safety among a sea of bitterness and envy were all in vain. To top it all off, she was nearly killed by her own brother, who had nothing to do with this, and was caught in the crossfire. Either of them almost paid the price with their lives. All because she wanted to protect Sliver's can as a last act of honor, hoping her body could be left to rest in peace.
It couldn't have been farther from the truth. Ever since UI was infected, Moon hadn't questioned a thing, for she denied the thought that her apprentice would ever dream of killing her senior, let alone attempt such a traitorous act in the first place. She felt bad for neglecting UI to focus on her duties but she hadn't forgotten the young iterator entirely an did her best to be present. Moons heart was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Seven Red Suns had redeemed himself, except he left out one crucial detail: who exactly intercepted his pearl? NSH, still being loyal as ever despite being somewhat grief stricken would go out to investigate on his own for that answer. Out of all the iterators he investigated no one confessed or knew who had done it, however not even him would suspect Unparalleled Innocence of all iterators to confess to another group member of her crimes. LTTM was distraught obviously, she had just banished her brother for no reason for a crime he didn't commit. It was UI who had intercepted Sun's pearl. It was she who had caused her death. She knew the two of them shared resources and the consequences that lay if Pebbles carried out the taboo! Instead of telling Moon of Seven Red Suns attempted murder on NSH, she instead gave the pearl to Pebbles out of jealousy while he was on a rampage searching for a solution.
Five Pebbles name was cleared of all accusations and he was allowed to return. UI however, was placed in Moon can for judgment. The soon-to-be heir was sentenced to exile, and forced to carry out the rest of Five Pebbles's banishment till further notice. UI called Moon a tyrant. Moon screamed she was a queen. Spending cycles building an empire was no easy task. To be betrayed was the worst feeling to ever experience especially from her. To think she treated UI as if she were her own when Moon had done nothing to deserve it. What did she do to make her point clear? LTTM- beheaded UI's puppet in front of what was left of her small shamble of a local group without a second thought. It hurt her, memories spent carrying for the iterator all thrown out the window. What a waste of potential. Chasing Winds was never seen again when this occurred soon leaving to make his local group disgusted by Moons actions no longer saw her as his senior, Sliver was his mentor after all and he could not obey Moon's new vicious demands on the belief that Moon's teachings were setting a bad example for younger generations straying away from the path Sliver of straws had created.
Moon regretted nothing, she was an old heart that was in pain. And yet the queen was not satisfied? She wanted ALL of them to pay for their crimes in causing harm to her family and the world she and Sliver had put their blood, sweat, and tears into creating. Those loyal to her were ordered to stay within their cans. Under any circumstances, they were not to attend the meeting at all. It rained during Moon's travel, a hellish rain that was red. Ironically this would be her an Slivers anniversary night... if she was alive to see it at all? an agonizing reminder of what she could not have. As she confronted these traitors in front of thousands of spectators the old admin could have sworn she saw Sliver's haunting ghost in the corner of her eyes. Overwhelmed, betrayed, saddened, ill-ridden in speculation, and uncertainty LTTM raised her scythe into the air in front of a hellish blood moon, there was no going back from this. She was doing this for her local group. For her… There will be blood on her hands. She was very aware of this and quite possibly no one will trust her again but she could not care less for anything else other than wanting revenge. Maybe ascension was never possible? Looking at the other Admins she wondered if they had betrayed her as well? It would mean no difference to be rid of them like the rest. Their groups would have to suffer without their precious leaders. Or did everyone want her dead? Why was the world unfair? Moon could not fathom to think of an answer for all of them only thinking of the consequences when she was the one suffering all this time. Where was her relief and prosperity? No one was allowed to leave the building, she needed- no- wanted them to watch. An urge to feel their fear watching their friends die in front of them, setting an example to anyone who dared to cross her path again. And so the traitors, the admins who played a part in all of this were slaughtered in the dead of the night. Anyone else who tried to escape met the same fate. The polished marble floor pooled with the blood of the fallen, their cries echoed throughout the abandoned city. This night was known as the crimson massacre. (All meetings have since been denied on this certain date)
[Recovery overseer surveillance feed has been removed. Seek permission from an admin before viewing contents. Viewers discretion is advised.]
Meanwhile the secondary group that was sent to infiltrate Slivers can in Moons absence never saw the light of day either. Moon an Slivers anniversary meant security was decreased. Seven red Suns, NSH, Pebbles of all iterators and everyone else who was told to stay back fought alongside Moon who had gained a profound sense of vengeance to protect what was hers. During the aftermath she was banned from gatherings for a short while. Not that she cared though. Cries of outrage from the public for Moon to be stripped of admin status were all anyone could talk about but the new admins that replaced the old ones couldn't bring themselves to do it out of fear of what she'll do. The sliverists were of course on her side, the rest wanted Moon dead. She laughed knowing none of the remaining admins who did not attend that night couldn't possible think of a better plan to stop her. The tension was thick enough to be cut with a knife sparking a repeatedly never ending war between the sliverist and anti-sliverist. Not a surprise there. In the eyes of the older generations ones- the innocent little Moon they had known and loved had become a monster blinded by hate. Anyone remaining was denied a moment's rest. The criticism an blasphemy she received did not matter anymore. From this day forward. LTTM showed no mercy to anyone. Not even her local group. If they wanted her dead so badly. They would have to come and rip her head off themselves.
She had sworn not to become like her creator, but she had become the monster she had tried to avoid. On long, open nights when the moon hangs in the clear open sky, you can hear her wailing into the night. She never wanted to be this way. All she wants is her sliver back. She'll do whatever it takes to keep her group safe and out of harm's way.
"Do not gaze into the moons eye's. Avoid the Moons wrath. Fear her venomous tongue, the scythe that cuts into failures. Bow at your own risk. The Moon carries the souls of the dammed, her cries shall drown the world in blood. Do not let the moon catch you. Running is all you can do. Did you make it to the end? Good job ya little gremlin you're actually paying attention.

i listened to usher part 3 for the first time in a while the other day, and one of the things that’s really interesting to me is how rose isn’t the pusher. yes, she has to be the photographer for plot reasons, but in nearly every other timeline rose is pearl’s downfall. and i guess she still is in a way in the subway timeline in that she doesn’t save her, but she’s also not the one who directly causes pearl to die. and more than that, the pusher is the bear, who in bad men (the song before this one!) says he won’t punish pearl like rose asks. and yet, that’s kind of exactly what he does in the subway timeline.
but thinking about it through the “rose is the same as everyone else” lens, and if we take that literally, then rose is the pusher and she’s still the one who pushed pearl. if the pusher is also rose and she “couldn’t help [her]self” and so pushed pearl from the rage echoing through her lifetimes, it would make a kind of sense. but of course, hardly anything in ghost quartet makes sense. the pusher could also just be the bear/pusher, and have pushed pearl because she hurt the bear in her game, or to finally fulfill his promise to rose. it’s just such a fascinating outlier to the pattern we see in all the other lifetimes (except maybe how the bear is also the shah? but he doesn’t kill pearl there either, so)

I have been going so insane over the zelda timeline regarding totk like I am LOSING my mind
like. either 1. botw/totk is a completely new continuity. worst option. boring.
2. it is SO FAR in the future of the (probably downfall) timeline and there has been SO MUCH canon-typical time bullshit in between that the other two either bleed over OR the ever-funny hyrule warrior's convergence theory happens that it may as well be just a soft reboot and history is just. repeating endlessly. also kind of boring imho
OR 3. totk memories happen sometime after skyward sword. interesting. also a completely fucking insane idea.
it's a misconception that SS zelda and link founded hyrule! they almost certainly didn't!
did the zonai make the timeshift stuff in SS? the tower of the gods in WW? the ooccoo? a fascinating concept!
what about the triforce? who knows! i don't think minish cap has anything to do with it either and it does get sealed away at some point sooooo
but more importantly
is there a fucking dehydrated ganondorf sealed away underground for every single zelda game
most people would be like, 'no, of course not, thats so stupid how does oot ganondorf exist if totk ganondorf is in hand jail already' and 'ganondorf has a history of reincarnation/revival but that can't happen if he's still alive ya dingus' and normally I would agree! I did agree! I've been scratching my head trying to make this work since I started playing totk
except!!! except!!!!!! we have literally already seen this happen before!!!!
so. skyward sword.
skyward sword is a closed loop time travel story. I cannot stand when people try to shoehorn another timeline split in SS because no split happens. that's the point. that was hylia's plan. the first hero? before skyward sword link? hylia's chosen knight that defeated demise? that was always skyward sword link in the past. demise even confirms this in dialog. something something he's 'never seen a hylian stand up to him before.' idk the exact quote but it Very Much Implies demise has never encountered any incarnation of link before.
so. how do we kill the imprisoned (demise) in the future and then go back and kill demise again in the past in a closed loop?
because we seal demise's consciousness in the sword, and his body in the ground
the imprisoned is clearly mindless. even more mindless than downfall timeline ganon post-resurrection. it has one single goal, which is to reach the temple and.... the master sword. with the consciousness of demise sealed within.
we have confirmation that two versions of the demon king can, technically, exist entirely separate from eachother.
it isn't a stretch to think that if his body is sealed away, effectively dead and unable to spread his malice, that the spirit of demise's hatred (if its not sealed with the sword, like in totk) would reincarnate until the time comes that the seal weakens enough (the first calamity) that it doesn't need to.
obviously there are still problems here like. where are the rito? (personally I think they just fuck off to hebra, which only barely exists in any other game, and I wholeheartedly believe the WW rito are a completely different species)
if totk ganondorf is sealed under the castle before oot, but the great plateau is implied oot castle town, why didn't we find dehydrated dorf there? uuuuuuuhhhhhhh next question
(listen the great plateau doesn't really match up with oot castle town anyway, no other details really match, definitely not the typical 'death mountain to the north(east), lake hylia down south' geography we usually see)
is rauru totk and rauru oot the same or different? zelda actually calls the sages 'ancient creators of hyrule' in oot, and since rauru is the only actually ancient one there.... uh. its entirely possible! why does he look hylian in oot? uhhhhhh? magic? because seeing some giant talking goat person that has never been seen before might not inspire trust in the traumatized monster-fighting 9 year-old-turned-16-year-old. also isnt oot rauru ALSO the owl? its been a LONG time since I played oot so I genuinely don't know if I just made that up but if so the guy has a history of changing form I guess
honestly I think we do have to allow for a certain level of handwavy 'new game' leeway, just like we do with EVERY game, in order to make this work. the map is always different. some things are introduced that have never once been heard of before in any other game. some things DONT exist that have in other games. some things are so different they're nearly unrecognizable. there are little easter eggs and no, they don't always have to mean something.
#AAAAAAAAAAAAA#obv theres problems. theres always problems with the zelda timeline. this one just has more problems than most#if you want it to have ANY bearing on any other game at all. it could be option 1 or 2. its entirely possible#just. boring lmao#loz#legend of zelda#totk#tears of the kingdom#totk spoilers#loz timeline#if i got any details wrong lemme know i wrote this at 2am and looked up nothing lmao#spirit chats#loz meta#i do firmly believe that if it is in the timeline no matter where it is botw is absolutely downfall timeline#it CANNOT be adult because the master sword is. yknow. There.#it also cant be child because the oot sages were absolutely a thing! ruto is referenced and she didnt become a sage in child timeline#it cant be referring to the totk sages. its just. such a blatant nod to oot ruto#i get totk is just oot 2.0 but like. not that lmao#anyway sorry ill shut up about the timeline that infamously makes no sense

kinda tired of always seeing the "waaah Zelda lore and the timeline is so confusing/messy!!"
not really!! you're just inattentive !!
A lot of the connections are either directly stated in the games (Like LoZ 1 and 2. OoT, MM, TP, and WW. WW, PH, and ST, etc) or through meta connections (like how to avoid religious references, Triforce of the Gods was renamed to A Link to the Past because it was written to take place before the events of Zelda 1 and 2 and then A Link Between Worlds getting the name Triforce of the Gods 2 in Japan cause it is a distant sequel to ALttP). Like come on y'all, just pay attention. A full timeline could be formed without looking at the official one ONLY using information in the games and chances are you'd be mostly right.
"Oooah!! but Ganon??!! how does he keep coming back??" Literally always gets explained in games. OoT was his first appearance, Adult timeline: he is sealed away in OoT. breakes free of said seal using the Triforce of Power between OoT and WW (literally stated in the prologue of WW). He is then killed in WW. Child Timeline: OoT is prevented by Link being sent back in time (which we see at the fucking end of OoT) sealed in the Twilight Realm, killed in Twilight Princess. Downfall Timeline, sealed in the Sacred Realm during the sealing war, breaks free of seal in ALttP, killed in ALttP, resurrected in the Oracle games, terrorizes Hyrule in ALBW and LoZ1 and is killed in LoZ 1 like FUCK it is literally shown in the events of the damn games. pay attention!!
Half the shit I see that you all are confused about is due to your own misunderstandings, either cause you didn't understand what was being said or because you just missed it and came up with some interpretation so off base that of course it would confuse you when trying to fit it into the series at large. And half of these misunderstandings wouldn't even be a thing if yall were open to being wrong and changing your interpretation. but alas that's not what we see, instead you blame the games.
No, most of the Ganon appearances aren't different Ganons. they're all OoT Ganon(dorf) EXCEPT FSA and TotK Ganondorf cause OoT Ganondorf is killed in and isn't resurrected but rather reincarnated (as FSA Ganondorf). FSA and its manual even states how Shadow Link is created from the Dark Mirror giving form to FSA Ganon's hatred of a Link who killed him in a past life. Of course it has to be after one of the times OoT Ganondorf is killed for good like how are you all stumbling over this??
No, Zelda doesn't get reincarnated unlike Link. All Zelda's are descendants from each other, but they're not the same person or soul.
NO not all Zelda's are incarnations of Hylia, ONLY SKYWARD SWORD ZELDA IS! They share a blood connection to her through SS Zelda, but they themselves are not Hylia.
No, Twilight Princess isn't a Wind Waker retcon idk how anyone is even coming to that conclusion?? Zelda in OoT makes it VERY clear that Link being sent back seven years and closing the door of time will separate the past and future of OoT, meaning that whatever he does in the past (the child era) won't affect the future already created (the adult era). like this is dialogue said in OoT, read what is being said I'm BEGGING you.
While we're talking about the timeline split...
The Downfall Timeline makes complete sense. Do I think it was what they intended when writing OoT? No. Definitely not. I don't even think they conceptualized it until 2002 or so. But its clear that once they wrote Wind Waker that they realized that the story of the Sealing War matches OoT better (which if you remember, OoT is meant to tell the story leading up to the Sealing War.) in a timeline where Link fails to stop Ganondorf. Otherwise Wind Waker and Twilight Princess wouldn't have been written to explicitly follow the adult and child endings of OoT. As the prologue of ALttP states, Ganondorf entered the Sacred Realm, raged war against Hyrule, becomes the Demon King Ganon using the complete Triforce and was sealed away in the Sacred Realm by the Seven Sages. That doesn't line up with either of the endings we explicitly see in OoT but it sure as hell lines up with what Ganondorf said he'd do if you lose the fight at the top of Ganon's Tower. Yall act like the downfall timeline is some massive horrible failure of writing when its really just the most logical conclusion of what is presented in the games. Never in OoT does Ganondorf obtain the full Triforce. his whole goal in the second half is to kill Link and take the Triforce from him and Zelda. The Seven Sages are there to seal him away, the Sacred Realm is open and has been corrupted by Ganondorf's influence. Hyrule was been ravaged by war. Ganondorf hasn't transformed into the Demon King Ganon yet. Almost everything lines up for the Sealing War, Link just needs to die for it to 100% work because Ganondorf doesn't have the complete Triforce. And he won't get the full Triforce if you win against him. How are you gonna argue that it makes more sense and matches ALttP better if Link wins?
And I've seen way too many people calling TotK a BotW retcon cause of Ganondorf's existence?? Even saw one guy on twitter somehow under the impression that TotK was a prequel? as of the entire game hasn't been advertised as taking place 5+ years after BotW? As if the Castle and Castle Town isn't in ruin? All because Ganondorf is there in human form? Guys, Calamity Ganon is nothing more than Ganondorf's power and hatred leaking from his body as he and Rauru rot underground. Calamity Ganon is essentially the physical embodiment of TotK Ganondorf's goals enacting his will while he remains imprisoned. This is made so clear in his in-game character profile, which also makes it clear that he only broke free of Rauru's seal on him due to the extreme earthquakes and damage that the Calamity caused. It was also fucking obvious ever since the 2019 trailer. This was spoonfed to us and some of yall still missed it? Seriously?
The ONLY extreme oddity in the overarching lore is how BotW and TotK fit in beyond "it's at the end", but even that has a few solid possibilities and isn't anywhere near as egregious as people want to make it out to be. You all want to talk about how you love theorizing and shit but are completely incapable of having a theory deeper than "botw/totk Link and Zelda are romantically involved!!!!"
(^not a dig at zelink at all, I'm just saying that a lot of you so called theorists only try your hand at "theories" that are so strongly implied that they're practically canon rather than trying to solve actual mysteries and questions. you don't want to do any research into the lore and try to piece shit together. something will be even the smallest bit ambiguous and you all tap out)
There's more but fuck I'm not looking to scour the internet to disprove every damn misconception and mistake.
Do I think they planned everything since the beginning? of fucking course not. this is a series with 20 canon games at this point and more on the way. there is absolutely no chance all of this was conceptualized 37 years ago. All im saying is that the overarching lore and connections that have been weaved over the course of nearly four decades isn't the clusterfuck that a lot of you try to paint it as.

In honor of 6 years of Infinity War and 5 years of Endgame, it's time....
It's FINALLY time for my back-to-back rewatch. I did some digging and I haven't watched Infinity War since May 2021, and I haven't watched Endgame since DECEMBER 2019. WHAT THE HELL???
So, yeah watch this space!!
--
Infinity War Rewatch
Gawd, I don't know if the beginning it going to hurt more or less knowing what happens to Loki....
They did Heimdall so dirty idc
MY BABYGIRL 😭😭😭 (OG Loki)
Loki saying "We have a hulk" means so much to meeee 😭
"IF I MIGHT INTERJECT" BITCH YOU MIGHT HAVE LIVED!!!
The fact that Thor's last words to Loki were "You really are the worst, Brother" probably haunted Thor for so long, and that HURTS.
I will say one of the best things to come out of the Loki series is that all the theories we had about Loki faking his death and actually being alive were actually validated! Yes, Sacred Timeline Loki died, but there was a version that tricked Thanos and lived.
Tony said "no more surprises" to Pepper and then he was in space for weeks/months (can't remember exactly) and came back nearly dead - You get why he fucked off for 5 years.
THE STANNER HUG, PEOPLE DIED.
Tony and Cap "we're not on speaking terms" but he apparently carried the flip phone everywhere for two years? 🥲
STAN LEE 😭😭 We miss you sir.
I wonder if Chris Pratt's downfall actually started with Peter Quill screwing up everything in this movie 😭🤣
I will say, I really enjoy that at least the beginning of IW has a lot of comic relief. I feel like Endgame was more serious overall.
Man I can't remember, how did any of the Asgardians survive Thanos' attack?
BEARDED CAP - THE SEXIEST A MAN HAS EVER LOOKED!!
NATASHA ROMANOFF I LOVE YOU!
"There's an Ant-Man and a Spider-Man?" I love you Bruce.
The couple parallels? Stange+Stark and Thor+Quill with battling egos, Quill+Gamora and Wanda+Vision both trying to self-sacrifice with the other not wanting to give them up.
Chris H truly gave such a great performance as heartbroken Thor 🥺
"Does it have a name?" "Stormbreaker." "It's a bit much."
"Kick names, take ass."
The gasp when Red Skull came back!!
Cap says we're going "home" but Sam implies that they haven't been to Wakanda. For Cap, "home" meant Bucky 🥺
"SEMI-STABLE 100 YEAR OLD MAN" Buckkyyy
There's definitely something sweet about Bruce being in the Hulk Buster!
"It'll kill you." "Only if I die!" "Yes, that's what... killing you means...." NEVER NOT FUNNY
I mean, Strombreaker being made out of fucking Groot is pretty badass.
THOR'S ENTRANCE!!! BITCH HE LIVED!!!!
"She's not alone." I don't care if it's cringe, I love a girl power moment!! It shows how far we've come!! There no longer just has to be one girl superhero!!
Thor my golden boy, you were so close 😭😭😭
HERE IT COMES...... I'll never forget the gasps in the theater when everyone started dusting....
And now after watching GOTG3 it's so much worse that Groot goes in front of Rocket 😭
Tony and Nebula being the last survivors was inspired.
Me: What was the post credit scene again? Ohhhh yeahhhh, the Captain Marvel teaser! Of course.
And thats Infinity War! I'll be back tomorrow for Endgame! 🖤🖤
Endgame Rewatch
CLINT I MISSED YOU!!!
Lila could have been the next Hawkeye if she hadn't been dusted 🥲
Tony and Nebula 😭😭😭
Tony working with Nebula to save them mirroring Tony building Iron Man in the cave to save himself 😭
Steve Rodgers: From "language" to "son of a bitch" MY BOY HAS GROWN
GAY JOE RUSSO!!
Don't get me started on bringing back Peggy DON'T GET ME STARTED 😤
And DON'T get me started on the symbolism of Nat's hair!! In each movie, she has perfectly intentional hair. Except now that they've lost their mission, he lets her hair grow out. She can't let go of the blonde. The blonde that reminds her what they're fighting for. Of her failure, but also for the last time she saw everyone. The last time things were normal.
The rat being the savior of the universe!
Dad Tony 😭 I'm kinda surprised Morgan hasn't made another appearance yet. Maybe when she's a bit older...
Time Heist!!!
Remember when I was afraid that them traveling in time would mess up the timeline and make it so Morgan wasn't born? God that would've been rough.
I love that now the kids love Hulk though 🥹 "Dab!" He deserves this!!
Man, Pepper and Tony really love each other so much 🥺 Peper knew Tony might not make it back. But she also knew Tony wouldn't be able to live with himself if he didn't try.
Oh no, how did I forget about Bruce and Rocket going to get Thor? 😭
The Russos were so sick for making Thor's trauma a joke. However I kinda understand why they did it because otherwise it would have been WAY too dark.
The amount of regret Clint must have felt after Nat died and he realized he could have spent the last five years with her and chose not to.
Scott being the only one invested in Thor's story 😭
The elevator scene!!! "Hail Hydra" everyone was GAGGED!!!
There goes my baby girl to meet the love of his life 🥹 (Loki stealing the cube)
Thor's smile when he gets Mjnolnir 🥹 "I'm still worthy." Yes you are ❤️
"Make love, not war!" ✌️
Ugh, the double Nebula thing is really annoying. I guess they had to do it to get Thanos in the mix but ehhh.
THE OG BIG THREE!!! And Thor's transformation with Mjnolnir and Stormbreaker! So badass!
When Strange signals ☝️ to Tony, is he saying Carol was their one chance to win, or was he just telling Tony, this is it?
The fact that Peter basically became an Avenger and then lost Tony in one day 😭
The fact that Chadwick was sick when they were filming these movies kills me 😥
Happy taking care of Morgan 😭😭
I still love that they brought Harley back 🥹
Bucky knew Steve wasn't gonna come back. He knew he was gonna choose Peggy over him 💔
"No, I don't think I will" - I wonder if they knew this line would become a meme hahaha
So, did past Steve and Peggy have kids? This feels like it could be a potential plot point.
MY FAVORITE END CREDITS!! I still tear up every time 🥺 The Original 6 just mean so much to me 😭
Also I noticed for Tom Hiddleston's clip they chose Prince Loki in his golden horns, not villain Loki. That's a nice touch. 💚
And there ends an era. Are there things that annoyed me? Yes, but overall I still feel like it was a solid ending for Tony and Cap (and Natasha but we got the Black Widow movie after).

How I imagine the downfall timeline went
—————————
(scene: final battle with Ganondorf in hyrule castle’s ruins)
Link panted, feeling energy leave his body, being replaced by this god awful pain. He had gotten beaten down a lot over the past few… well, weeks, but this felt like the worst. How many different heart pieces and containers did he find that boosted his constitution? Well, he guessed they didn’t matter compared to this.
He had tried. He had really tried. He had done everything- sought out every single fairy fountain and great fairy, gaining all the magical abilities, but he was still losing. He had used all his fairies (except Navi of course), all of them coming to his aid moments before death. But Link had… well, he had prepared, but he underestimated Ganondorf, or Ganon as he now was. He didn’t even have the strength to use the biggoron sword anymore. He was slow, his reflexes dulled, too slow to fight, too slow to react…
too slow to see Gabon’s scimitar slashing down towards him, Zelda’s scream, the cries of the sages. Did he hit a wall or was that the ground? He didn’t know. Was this water? It felt warm, nice. The burning heat was replaced with a nice breeze, the hard stone replaced with soft grass. The burning edges of the coliseum replaced with the flowing edges of a forest.
Why was Link fighting?
He had never wanted this. Sure, he chose to fight, but he didn’t want this. All he wanted was a fairy. All he wanted was to live with his friends. All he wanted was peace, to live a nice life. To ride Epona, to fight a good opponent without having to worry about his death or the consequences.
Link’s vision slowly went black, and he knew that it would soon be replaced with the nice calm meadow he always wanted to be in. He would close his eyes, and he could just have a moment’s rest. A moment that would be an eternity. Link wouldn’t be remembered as a hero, just as someone who fought the hardest, even if he lost. But he didn’t care. Ganondorf was chosen by the Gods, right? Why should a hylian boy from the kokiri forest try and interfere with their plan? The sages could probably seal Ganon without his help.
Link’s vision faded, his last thought spoken unconsciously into words:
“I leave it to the next person.”
————————————
Zelda fell to her knees, unable to move, blink, look away. She stared at Link’s body- his lifeless body. He stared at the sky as he uttered his last words, but Zelda couldn’t hear them over the rushing in her ears.
They failed.
They had tried so hard. Zelda tasked Link with finding the stones so that they could be guarded. Zelda gave Link the Ocarina, causing the sacred realm to be exposed. Zelda his for seven years as she waited for Link to return. She aided him in his journey, pushed him or complete his destiny.
was his destiny to fail?
Before she could articulate another thought, a roar emanated from Gabon’s jaw, and the former-king swung down again, impaling Link’s body on the blade, before swinging it towards the chasm. Link was sent flying into the chasm, disappearing.
a scream of anguish was released from Zelda as she felt the guilt of Link’s death weighing on her. She had killed this Kokiri boy. She had killed the hero of time. She had doomed this kingdom.
and she was angry.
Zelda spun around and, commanding every ounce of the blood of hylia and the triforce of Wisdom within her, she sent a blast of power at the beast. Flowers and trees around her wilted, surrounding animals and fairies falling, the fairy that had accompanied Link disappearing, as she absorbed all power from the area.
it wasn’t until she was done that she watched in horror as not only did Ganon rise, but the triforce of Wisdom left her body. She could only look on in horror as the complete triforce appeared on Gabon’s fist. He had stolen Courage when he killed Link, and Zelda’s unrestrained blast had drawn the final piece to the king.
“Quickly! Forget the plan we had set in motion!” Rauru cried from the spirit realm. “Ganon isn’t weakened, but we can still seal him for a short while!”
Using the last of her power, Zelda and the other sages used their combined powers to push Ganon (whose beast form prevented the full use of the triforce) into the sacred realm. The gate sealed the sacred realm permanently, but not before the form of Ganon released one final wave of energy which nearly leveled what remained of hyrule field and Lon Lon ranch.
Exhausted, Zelda collapsed. She couldn’t do anything. Because she knew, most of all…
they had lost today.

Reconciling any sort of timeline for Mad Max (and tearing it down - and building it back up - then throwing my hands in the air)
At least, in the context of a canon I can slap my fanfictions against. And maybe workshopping this in writing will help. And it's not like this hasn't been litigated up and down the block already, I guess this is just my own coming to terms with it to help sculpt a way through everything. So the number one issue I really want to solve is that everything happens. Everything happens, if it absolutely can, and Fury Road is where all movies take us. That's quite the task, of course, since Max has three movies of his own and the Furiosa movie is a completely confounding factor because so much of it straight up was not foreseen in what we knew of previously shared Green Place and Vuvalini lore, and even beyond. It for sure destroyed many headcanons, my own included. But at the same time, going through this thought process has told me just how hard it would be to apply all of the movies into one cohesive timeline - so what would give? Tell you what, more below the cut, spoilers abound.
Yow! My god where do we even start. What do we do if we want all the movies to be in a cohesive timeline? I think first of all things is to accept the destructive nature of man. The ill nature of man that accelerates the downfall of society, that means Humungus' horde could naturally form, say, five years after the events of the first movie? I mean, come on, he's a gimp. We still have police cars with working lights. In this universe, it seems natural that the inclination for man to misbehave and become feral is greater, happens faster. The thing about Mad Max 1 is that it's not even Fantasy fantastic in the way the second movie is. It's grounded in a small town, within the structure of Max having a job in the Main Police Force. Toecutter's gang rolls in and it feels like a Western recontextualized into a modern-day setting. They got the guns and leather, all they did was swap the horses for cars. There's only a desolation in how separate they are from more urban society, nothing more. The oil shortage is there in the background - they even rob petrol from a tanker - but there's really nothing that drives this film into the "absurdity," if you will, of the later films.
Road Warrior can't really happen too long after that - Papagallo escapes to a derrick with schematics amid difficulties with the Seven Sisters (the oil conglomerate) and the road gangs face a level of acceleration in their debauchery. I've looked it up and there's a mild consensus that it's three years later that it happens. Is three years acceptable? We still end up getting some fantastic cars (Papagallo's vehicle, the gyrocopter, the souped-up tanker they drive out of the compound) but there is a level of primitivism to it all. Like, yeah that's a little weird, let's go for it! Football helmets and pads for armor! Weld on spikes and barbed wire! It can't even begin to touch how things are designed for the new movies. This world of pain is still new. In Beyond Thunderdome, the world is completely lived in by this point. The post-apocalyptic framework of how people live, think, act, dress, and die isn't completely structured but it almost completely wipes away Before except for the saxophone in Aunty Entity's office and the fact that the tribe of kids remember a plane. Hell, the plane is real. When did the plane take off? Why? How? Who? You know, a whole litany of questions that beg questions of a timeline. How old is the youngest child? - and the answer to that would give us the earliest time that plane could have taken flight - unless one of the adults gave birth in the aftermath of the crash, for however long the adults stayed at the crash site. Still, you have to acknowledge that quite some time has passed since Road Warrior, where it's clear that the Outback has completely abandoned the idea of civilization, and the big coastal cities are holding on to the very last. People are driven out into the desert because they perceive it as better, but what goes on out in the desert is just plain dreadful and the best place to see some of the worst parts of humanity break free. I think 15 years from Road Warrior to Thunderdome is not entirely unreasonable if you want to constrain the timeline. It's like, whatever, you know? The lost kids have to make sense in this context. The advanced state of Bartertown is an artifact of the accelerated capability of humans to still form this kind of society, which is forever stained with the viciousness of struggle and survival in this post-apocalyptic world. Haves and have-nots and whatnot. A slave class, a proletariat class, a bourgeoise class.
You have to start taking things for granted, otherwise all explanations break down. (And this admission is definitely where it all starts to break down). But things are different when Fury Road comes along. The big thing is that, according to concept art, Max has tattooed on his back 12045 days - 33 years. Furiosa had been separated from the Vuvalini for 7000 days (plus the ones she doesn't remember) - just over 19 years. With Alyla Browne being 11 or 12 as filming commenced, let's just say Furiosa came up to be 30 or 31 for the events of Fury Road. So at this point, fuck every thought, man. HOW is everything about the concept of Fury Road (and even Furiosa) supposed to fit in with the original trilogy? For Max to have experienced all that he did - and STILL be so young in this era? For him to have been in the MFP, still trying to hold society together, and meanwhile, the Citadel! And Dementus! And everything! There's your problem. How do you reconcile the disparity? You really can't. The big counter to this, as has been discussed many times but is difficult to swallow, is that it's all faff. Nothing matters, really. It's all legend, fuck a timeline. Tom Hardy Max is a different Max!
And really it feels so cruel to think this way, to allow for all of this to be swept away. I know that Fury Road is a soft reset for Max. Maybe the only thing that really ties him to previous canon is Glory-the-Child as a ghost, which even then is tenuous, because that's mostly a comic/game thing, and the comics have been widely panned. He was also planned to have an earpiece which I believe was abandoned part-way through filming and edited out where present, meant to be something of a reference to his time as a cop, but that's it!
But the cumulative story is simultaneously so delicious! Don't get me wrong, it SUCKS to be Max. It's actually very bad to call all this trauma delicious but it reinforces the idea that here comes this guy who by all means should feel broken by the world around him but takes heart in those who, to borrow a term from The Road, carry the fire.
But at the same time... well. Mad Max 1 is nothing but trauma. The failure of the MFP to do any good. The loss of Goose and Jessie and Sprog. It doesn't resolve - things happen to him and he gets revenge for them. Road Warrior? He does his best to remain detached, perhaps only connecting to Papagallo in a rough and begrudging way, the Warrior Woman, and the Feral Child, and all but the latter are killed. He loses his dog, of course, as well as his car, one of the last things that tied him back to the Force. Still, the movie has something of a good ending - he managed to be the distraction the group needed to survive, even if he, the Pilot, and the Feral Child are all who were left of the distraction. Thunderdome is more difficult to say - in trying to spare Blaster, he is punished for his morals. In meeting the lost kids, he startles them into action, into wanting to leave their oasis, and some die for their troubles. Again, there is something of a good ending - the kids make the escape and somehow the enmity of Aunty Entity resolves into amicability.
Max in Fury Road starts in complete dread. Dread of a voice he's running from, dread of visions of those he perceives himself as having failed, and even still nightmares of eyes popping and hands grabbing and ripping at him. A very unique display of trauma and self-blame. There is years of trauma present in this Max that we haven't seen, that almost seems to lack the wisdom he would have gained from Road Warrior and Thunderdome that somewhat harkens to what George Miller called "engage to heal," which is sort of what Max does in Fury Road but makes the choice to go his own way in the end. The personal growth that comes from the events of the previous two films (Road Warrior and Thunderdome) in terms of engaging to heal, and learning that people are deciding and consummating their own destinies despite him, and not because of him, has not occurred yet. It's evident his soul is still scrubbed raw and he is fleeing from any sensation and situation that would overwhelm him, which is why he'd so readily abandon the Wives by taking the War Rig.
But still, there's something. "Once, I was a cop," he said in the beginning of Fury Road. "A road warrior searching for a righteous cause." There's something there! But what? And when did it happen? And how could it happen with a level of intensity in his experiences that indicate that he and Furiosa are in the same world, with the same despair, with the same level of societal degradation that everything makes sense?
The intro to Furiosa, where we see the Green Place in all its splendor, shows us just exactly what humans are still capable of doing in this post-apocalyptic world. At the same time, I think a lot of the desolation is utterly exaggerated thanks to Fury Road's filming in Namibia. Much to my surprise, Furiosa's production was in Australia, but really could have cooled me. But anyways, I guess it makes sense for the Green Place to have secluded itself in the middle of nowhere, but why did no one else find the forest (unless they were absorbed into the Vuvalini or killed outright) and also live there? But that's beside the point. The Green Place shows us that people are still being civilized. Why not have Max also live somewhere in some situation that parallels who he is and how he is needed in Mad Max 1? It seems easy, because the scale of Dementus' biker horde is obscene, beyond exaggeration, and perhaps better described as an aberration, which eventually meets three even bigger aberrations in the Citadel, Gas Town, and Bullet Farm. So why can't Max be in his own small world where there is some sort of Main Force Patrol, even without its name, even as a band of desperate vigilantes? There's no easy house on the water to come back to, no television or radio beyond what they can squawk in their hodge-podge transceivers, no legal system, no, no, no... stripped back to the desperation of defending some little outback village that hasn't yet been lost to the sands. And maybe Toecutter's biker gang still isn't of a viciousness one could expect from Dementus' gang. But still, the tragedy of losing his best friend, wife, and child happens, and revenge is taken but solace is not found.
And Papagallo's oil derrick helps us bridge the gap of making sense of things. We're already half-way there. Maybe Papagallo has been there for 15 years already instead of three. Hell, make it 20. And they plied their trade selling the oil until they were found by a big enough gang that simply could not be stopped by the refinery and those willing to defend it. The costumes are there, the fierceness of humans is there, the Feral Child, a symbol of humanity already lost, is there. We do not have to worry so much anymore about making it make sense.
And maybe Max doesn't take too long to find them. He abandons his town, settlement, village, what have you and maybe it's only months later that he finds them. And maybe it's not 12 years later that his luck somewhat turns and he's intercepted on his way to Bartertown, but five? And what is Max here, 28? And Bartertown is Bartertown - hell, it can be the Bartertown that I write about if it wants and if I choose it. And Thunderdome? The concept is "sold" to Gas Town after the events of the movie. Here, we can take basically everything at face value. We are in the world of Fury Road and Furiosa if we want to be.
But what happens in these analogous events, these parallel Road Warrior and Thunderdome events, that drives Max into the raw trauma that he portrays in Fury Road? Ah, easy answer. Maybe nothing different. But here he is, 28, and he's 33 in Fury Road. That leaves plenty of time for him to experience everything that drives him, and to meet all of his ghosts.
But really, in the end, there's nothing in Fury Road's Max that implies he is compelled by the events of the previous movies. He's only equipped with his folklore - the jacket, the kneebrace, the gun, the car. None of the baggage is played with.
Ahhh, but the past! What a void there is if not for adapting the first three movies into something that defines his history! And that's why I want them. And tell you what, that's why I'll keep them.
