The other thing that really ticks me off about the "young witch trying to solve the disappearance of her neighbor's cat in a small village in the Alps" post, which I am sure I'm going to bungle the explanation so I didn't want to even attach it to the post in the tags

There's this really prevalent thing that I see in the States since I live there, but is probably even worse in the UK (where the OP of that post is from) where people from literally anywhere in mainland Europe that's not France/Germany/Italy/Spain/MAYBE Netherlands and Switzerland if you're truly Cultured(tm) is not "white" enough to be relatable, so you don't engage because it's boring, but they're "white" enough that you don't get special good white people XP for engaging with it and mentioning it publicly how you struggled through it even though it was Not Relatable to boost your cred.

Which is to say that "I don't want to hear about the experiences or thoughts of Estonians, I'd rather a (French/Swiss/German because those are the only Real Europeans) young witch trying to solve the disappearance of her neighbor's cat in a small village in the Alps with no real-life lessons to learn"

is, on top of everything else, channeling the same sentiment as "film bros want to show you a 2-hour black and white film about the Serbian government shown through the eyes of a pigeon (when you just want to watch something with no real-life lessons to learn)"

just started reading The Left Hand of Darkness for EngLit and uhhh. I didn't know anything about it going in so the tragic incestuous love affair right out of the gate was somewhat surprising. All in all, great book so far!

the newest snapshot for mc java edition, 1.21.7 is kind of hmmmm... like. they added in a new music disc that's a cover of one of the stupid meme songs from the movie and god I am just not a fan of this at all.

The cover sticks out like a sore thumb compared to every other music disc and not in a good way, it's literally just a shitpost. AND it's so stupidly easy to get too. Chicken Jockeys?? really? It feels like modded content in a bad way, if you get me.

It doesn't even make sense alongside everything else, it's so blatantly just there to reference the movie that you can't even have fun with it by trying to come up with some lore for it or something. It just doesn't fit.

There's a good chance I'll probably use a resource pack to swap the song into something completely different.

One thing I do wonder about though is why they're adding so many mc movie references to begin with. There's also a painting in the game (though this is forgivable as it is subtle enough that you can use it in a fun way since it's just a painting of a dog) AND the splash texts.

If they're going to add things from other Minecraft media I would rather see stuff from the Spinoffs such as Dungeons, Legends and Earth.

Hellooo hello I finally got caught up with Wanderer's lore in genshin, idk if you've posted on here but I wanna know more about your oc x canon loree like how did they meet and what do they do together and anything you wanna say

Since Genshin's relationships are left mostly to interpretation, I wanted to write my oc the same way. So most of the lore is actually just my character solo (which I might EVEENNTUALLY give a full rundown of if there's interest).

Basic gist is that she's a ghost; think "death" in a tarot deck kind of symbolism. I wanted to work with the idea of a dendro character who's dead 'cause of the contrast & relationship between plants and the deceased I hope that makes sense 👍 I also wanted trauma + recovery to be represented by something physical because I like the extra layer of alienation it can present

But ANYWAYS, after all of her personal business I think she'd want to experience more of the world and return to her passion for writing and learning, so that's probably the point at which she'd meet wanderer. In my mind, they have a similar relationship to the one he has with Sethos in terms of presentation, but they're friendlier.

Excuse the poor overlaying, but I really loved this exchange

& the implication that he'd enjoy experiencing life more / maybe grow tired of all the academics, since iirc he primarily was writing about his past experiences under the genre of political analysis lol

I thought it might be cute if at some point they started working together on pieces. She'd probably be better at evening out his tone issues, sometimes an editor & sometimes more of a ghost writer. haha get it. get i

Finally getting around to reading Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, and I have to say I don't think anything could have prepared me for the tonal whiplash in finishing the first book and then reading the first page of the second. Long meandering musings on the depressingly nihilistic and entropic nature of life, death, and the universe as perceived by someone who believes their very existence is an unforgivable sin, smash cutting to a fucking My Immortal description.

Thinking about Lilo & Stitch makes me really appreciate certain things about the original + the series. Almost every single named [human] character in the movie isn’t white: the only exception being Mertle, y’know, the bratty little girl we’re not supposed to like.

Besides all of the racial representation, Lilo herself is very much a neurodivergent icon, and her portrayal as the protagonist is amazing considering how characters like her are typically either sidelined or depicted in ways to make them less sympathetic/human (modern media does at least a slightly better job at adressing that kind of thing tho).

So all of that is great, but to anyone that hasn’t seen Lilo & Stitch: The Series, it also does some extremely refreshing stuff.

Pleakley gets tons of validation to dress in drag, everyone always referring to Pleakley as “she” when dressed up as “aunt Pleakley.” There’s even an episode that tackles Pleakley dealing with the pressures of his family that wants him to marry a girl and settle down to have a “normal life.” After the episode's shenanigans, there's a realistic depiction of the misunderstanding of a heteronormative/traditional parent with their non-traditional child: Pleakley's mom says that she just wants her children to be happy, but when Pleakley says that he is happy, she thinks he's only trying to console her as she insists, "How can you be happy? You aren't even married." But Pleakley finally gets it through to his mom when he says, "I don't want to be married, mother! I'm happy just as I am."

After getting to meet all of Pleakley's ohana throughout the episode and hearing from Pleakley himself -after all of the previous misunderstandings- that he really, truly, is happy, she's finally starting to understand.

Even though his mom comments as they leave that she wants him to “try wearing men’s clothes more often,” she still does walk away accepting that she simply doesn’t understand her son's way of thinking. It’ll definitely be hard for her since she’s so much more “traditional,” but she’s finally coming to grips with the fact that her son is who he is, and likes being that way, so she’ll love him regardless. She's trying her best.

The portrayal of people with physical disabilities is also great. It’s not because there’s one recurring character with some condition, but almost because there are non-recurring characters. It isn’t in every episode, but here’s an example: they want to show someone at the park playing fetch with their dog for just one shot. They could very easily have it be any a random person, but they decided to make it a lady in a wheelchair. There's another episode where Nani's friends from highschool show up and one has forearm crutches, but not just because she had some recent accident. No one in the episode questions her condition or feels the need to point it out, the only comment on it being that the friend will use the crutches to lightly bonk the others' arms, and Nani jokes, "You are still deadly with that thing."

The fact that they include characters with disabilities when they "don't have to" makes it that much more normal. These people aren't some special case or the main highlight of the episode, they're just another person. They're normal.

There's so much that all of the original Lilo & Stitch media did right, but now the name will forever be tainted with the association of the remake, which I'm sure will have absolutely none of the tasteful writing and ideas of anything prior to it.

hi can we talk about when he gets ethereal. w his vocals specifically. idk if it's just me but when ppl talk about michael that word never gets attached that much. spiritual, otherwordly, angelic maybe but it's like. when it's Michael Jackson it's like a Dominating Presence. in a way that's like Oh My God He's Here That's Him. & there's no other choice but to be keenly aware that That Is Michael. u listen to him sing like that & it's like That's Michael's Voice and it feels like? having to stand in the middle of the road? knowing There Is A Car Approaching Fast so u have to run and move away?? that kind of awareness. his vocals where it's like yeah that's Michael he can do that. w his voice. he can belt out those notes he can growl out those lyrics he can sing like that

but it's like. when it's ethereal it's like that Is Michael but omg Why Is He Like That. scary. beautiful. hypnotic & strange u feel helpless & in awe. Feeling a Presence but never sensing where it's emitting from. hearing him sing & it's like. Are You Real. Where Are You.
