I was talking with my housemate about how to be more physically active if youâre not used to it at all because everywhere youâre told to start a training routine where you push yourself a little every day, and while that may seem easy for some people it can be really fucking daunting if you start from zero.
As someone who comes from a very physically active family that doesnât exercise just for the sake of exercising but do things like walk to the grocery store and bike to work, hereâs my advice that has always worked for me:
Go super duper easy on yourself.
If you want to walk more start by walking for 3 or 5 minutes. The shortest possible walk you feel youâre capable of. A trip around the block or across the yard. You donât need to sweat or get your blood pumping. Just a short stroll. The hardest part is to convince yourself to set aside 5 minutes every day to go on this short walk but nothing else about it should be hard. Do it every day and one day youâll realize that you donât want to go home just yet. Itâs very important that you donât think âI want to pressure myself to walk furtherâ but rather âI havenât spent all my walking energy yet. I have more walk in meâ and only then do you lengthen the walk. I repeat, at no point should it be exhausting or difficult because even when it feels easy your body will be building muscle and stamina and it will eventually feel too easy and youâll naturally want to crank it back up to easy again.
If youâre not used to being physically active it might not make a ton of sense when I say that youâll have more walking energy left but trust me, youâll get it when you get there.
I grew up with going on evening walks with my parents and passed that on to other housemates who didnât get it at first but are now going on walks long after they moved somewhere else. Because once you get the hang of it youâll realize how calming it is on the brain to move the body even if the body isnât exhausted afterwards.
And it of course helps to entertain yourself especially in the beginning. My housemate started out listening to audiobooks and podcasts but eventually realized Pokémon Go was the best motivator. Whatever you feel like you want to do on your 5 minute easy stroll.

At least you have a fire escape. You bolt the door from the inside, then slip out the window. You canât latch it from the outside, but itâs a little harder to break in through the window than the front door.
Youâre only two minutes late to your waitressing shift. Your manager swipes you in, lets you know that a server called out so youâll be handling two sections today, and the host runs up to tell you that youâve already been sat.
In the middle of the shift, when you have a minute to catch your breath, you check your phone. Jason had texted, No, I took your keychain. Is your spare missing?
I think I lost it.
Iâll look for it when I come home before patrol. Will I see you before heading out?
Not looking like it. Things havenât slowed down at all.

Youâre not really in the mood for leftovers, and not really in the mood to cook. You stare between your phone and the pantry. Takeout is easy. So is pasta.
With a sigh, you decide to spare your bank account. Delivery fees are getting ridiculous nowadays.
You text Jason just to see how his night is going. Youâre not sure heâll respond; sometimes, like during stakeouts, he turns his phone off completely so the sound or vibrate doesnât reveal his presence. He doesnât respond after a minute, which means heâs busy. You sigh and set down your phone, then change into comfier clothes. As soon as youâre out of your room, you grab a pot and box of pasta. You canât sit down, or youâll put off dinner for at least another hour.
The water is set to boil when you turn around to look at your phone, vaguely hoping Jason has responded by now.

The apartmentâs a bit chilly, so you take your pajamas with you into the bathroom and sit under the water spray until all the grime of the day washes away. You throw on the first clothes you see and debate hiding in your room until your friend arrives. But adrenaline is pumping and you think you might shake out of your skin. You sit on the edge of the bed and take deep breaths.
Thereâs a window in your room, but it only opens three inches and itâs not connected to the fire escape, so thatâs not an option. The window that leads to the fire escape is in the main room, so youâd have to walk through the kitchen to get to it, and the intruder may be hiding in the pantry.
You could try the front door, but the storage closet is right next to it: another likely place for someone to hide and jump out at you.
Your room is only as safe as the strength of the door. And the wood is pretty thin.
All of a sudden, your phone buzzes, and you drop it. You snatch it up to see an incoming call lighting up the screen with your boyfriendâs handsome contact photo.
You accept the call immediately. âJay?â
âIâm on my way,â he rushes out. You hear the roar of his motorcycle in the background. âAre you okay?â
âIâm okay.â You whisper, âI think someone is here.â
âI know.â His voice is strained. âItâs going to be okay. Youâre going to be fine. Iâm five minutes away. Can you get out?â
âI donât know. Iâm in my bedroom, I locked my door. I think heâs hiding somewhere in the apartââ
A hand shoots out from under the bed and grabs your ankle.
You scream.
Your phone flies away when he yanks you off the bed. You go down swinging with the knife and make contact, accidentally swiping your own ankle in the process. The man grunts with pain and lets go, and you scramble to the door. You donât even feel the pain in your ankle, although youâre actually bleeding a lot.
Heâs wriggling out from under your bed when you get to your feet and twist the doorknob. âGet the fuck out of my house, you fucking pervert!â you scream. You yank the door open and runâŠ
Right into a strangerâs chest.
There are two of them?
An iron grip clamps over your shoulder. His other hand fists in your hair. âWell, hello, pretty. Youâre not the Red Hood.â
You stab him in the stomach.
Unfortunately, that only makes him mad.
âYou bitch,â he groans. The slap is so powerful it nearly breaks your neck. You canât breathe for a second, and then the first man catches up to you. His hand is bleeding. Like, a lot. They transfer you over so the stabbed man can groan about being stabbed. Itâs only in his gut, so he should be fine. âWalk it off,â you goad. Itâs the Gotham in you.
The first man digs his bloody knuckles into your cheek. âFucking whore cut me,â he says. âWhereâs the Red Hood?â
âHeâll kill you both,â you spit. âHeâs on his way to shoot you in the head.â The threat should have scared them, but they were dumb enough to break into the Red Hoodâs apartment and beat his partner. They had not been blessed with many braincells.
âGood,â he says. âHeâll get here just in time to see his pretty pet die.â
Someone pounds on the door and everyone freezes. Fear flashes over their face, but Jason wouldnât have knocked. He would have kicked the door down or gone through the window.
Your best friend calls your name through the door. Sheâs trying to sound casual, but things are so far past casual.
The man holding you sees you draw in a breath to scream. âDonât you dare,â he warns. âDo it and Iâll kill them, too.â The barrel of a gun presses to the side of your head.
Where is Jason?
You donât think heâll get here in time. He doesnât deserve to carry the weight of that failure, but he will. Your Jay thinks heâs responsible for every bad thing in the world.
The manâs ugly face explodes.
You register the concussive sound of gunfire half a second later. Your ears ring. You lose your balance.
More gunfire. Itâs so loud all you can do is cover your ears. Whoâs shooting who?
It stops as suddenly as it started, but you donât look up. You canât hear anything. You donât want to see their ugly faces anymore.
Then hands grab you again, and you shriek. Your kitchen knife is still buried in the second manâs gut, so you have no defense. A man with a gun is going to kill you in your apartment.
Despite all your attempts at fighting, heâs too strong. Iron hands pry your hands away from your head, but you still canât hear anything. Your ears are still ringing too loud. Your eardrums might have burst.
Then gloved hands cup your cheeks.
You know those gloves.
Jason is kneeling on the ground in front of you, absolutely frantic. His mouth moves, but you donât hear anything. You donât even hear your sob, but you definitely feel it right before you throw yourself at him.
Strong arms wrap around your back. Jason cradles you, hugs you so tight you canât breathe, tries to hide you from anyone that might hear you. You still canât make out his words, but youâre beginning to hear a muffled voice.
Youâre sitting completely in his lap, his legs behind you to support your back. You cling to him, trying not to shake. Youâre a pretty unflappable Gothamite, but a home invasion is enough to rattle anyone. Youâre supposed to be safe here.
Jason pulls away just enough to kiss your forehead. His green eyes squeeze tight like heâs in pain, and a single tear slips from the corner of one.
You wipe it away.
Jason wipes the blood on your cheek away.
You read his lips when he asks if youâre okay. You nod. Youâre alive, and thatâs what matters.
Jason holds you still when you try to look around. He says something that you canât read. He must know that you donât understand, because he just uses one huge hand on the back of your head to pull you forward. His mouth presses against your forehead, not quite a kiss, just relishing the connection.
You hear the banging first. Then you hear the shouting.
Oh, God. Your best friend.
You scramble out of Jasonâs hold so fast he canât stop you. You stumble past two dead bodies, both with three bullets in their heads. The floor is ruined beyond belief.
Jason helps support you. He needs to touch you somewhere to reassure himself that youâre okay, that youâre alive. You unlock the door, and barely open it a crack before your friend pushes it all the way open.
She gasps at the sight of you. âOh, my God!â Her arms wrap tight around your neck, and you squeeze her. Jasonâs hand remains pressed against your back. Her boyfriend stands behind her in the hallway, and he eyes Jason somewhat suspiciously. The two have never met before.
Your best friend pulls away, and Jason folds you against his side. His hand runs up and down your arm.
âAre you okay? Thereâs blood all over you.â Her eyes drift past your face and land on the bodies on your floor. Her mouth tightens, but she doesn't scream or call the cops immediately.
âItâs not mine,â you say faintly. âWellâŠâ You look at your ankle. âMost of it.â
âJesus,â says Jason. âThey did that to you?â
"I did it to myself," you admit. "But I stabbed that one." You point.
He kisses the top of your head. "I'm going to teach you how to defend yourself. I never should have left you alone." Jason fixes your friend with a look so stern that she actually gulps. "Can you watch them for a little bit?"
"Yeah," she says. "I'll take care of them."
"Good." Jason takes your face in his hands. His eyes blaze. "I'll be back as soon as I can. You hear me? You're not gonna be alone ever again."
You nod numbly.
Jason carries you to the couch, then coaches your friend through applying pressure to your ankle. He gently places an icepack in your hand, then moves you until it's pressed to your numb cheek. Then he kisses you. Pulls back. Kisses you again. It's not sweetâhe tastes like blood, or maybe you doâbut it's firm, and it's real, and it's a promise.
He stands up and asks your friend's boyfriend, "You wanna help me with these?"
As far as you know, the other man's never hidden a dead body in his life. But to his credit, he hardly hesitates before nodding.
Jason's already calling someone when he walks out. One of his criminal contacts, you're sure. You don't know and you don't want to know.
They're gone for twenty minutes. You're still in shock when they get back. You know you're in shock, but you can't snap out of it. You don't think you want to.
He gently nudges your friend's hands away to peek under the gauze. "You want stitches for this, honey?"
You shake your head. The cut's too close to bone, and you don't want a needle going anywhere near your bones.
"Okay." He changes the gauze, then tapes it in place, then puts a sticky wrap over that. "I'll change this in the morning. You're gonna be okay."
"I'm glad you're all right," your friend's boyfriend offers. You don't know each other all that well, but he just helped hide two bodies that you and Jason killed, so he must be an all right dude. You nod, give him a shaky smile, try to wave.
Your best friend bends over to hug you. "I'm going to text you in the morning," she says. "You'll be okay with Jason. I'm so proud of you. I'm so glad you're okay."
You hug her back until she puts the icepack back in the freezer.
When they leave, Jason stands up from the couch. You make a pleading, confused noise in the back of your throat, and he smooths your hair away from your face. "I'll be right back, honey," he promises. "I'm gonna lock the door. No one's ever getting to you again, you hear me?"
As soon as he pulls away, you shiver. The only thing keeping you warm was his body.
True to his word, he locks the front door, then heads right back to you.
"Do you want to go to the bedroom?" Jason asks softly.
You shake your head. There was a man hiding beneath your bed tonight. It was worse than any monster you used to be scared of as a child.
"Okay," he says softly. Jason eases onto the couch, but he has so much bulk that it's impossible to lay side-by-side on your backs. Jason twists onto his side, and after a moment, you do too, using one of his massive biceps as a pillow. He smells like gunpowder. You smell like blood. You fit together like two terrible, violent puzzle pieces.
He kisses your forehead again. Pulls a blanket over the two of you, makes sure it's snug around your feet. You enjoy the fussing.
When he has nothing left to fiddle with, Jason sucks in a ragged inhale, then says, voice cracking, "When I saw those texts, I was terrified."
"I'm glad you checked your phone," you say. "For a while, I thought you wouldn't."
"I could feel that something was wrong."
Your throat hurts. "Did you mess up your mission tonight because of me?"
"Honey, I would do anything for you," he says. "I'd abandon a thousand missions to keep you safe. I'd burn this city to the ground."
Another night, you would remind him that he's a hero. That he fights for the greater good. That he is good.
Tonight, you take comfort in the vow.
"I'm so proud of you," he whispers. "You were so brave. You did so well."
Your fingers twist in his shirt. Your nose nestles into the hollow at the base of his throat perfectly, so you hear every breath he takes, every rumble in his throat when he talks. You press a kiss to his chest just above the neckline of his shirt, and his throat jumps.
Jason makes a strangled noise, then wraps his arms even tighter around you. He throws one leg over your hip, completely covering you, pressing you into the couch. You would feel suffocated if it was anyone else.
You fall asleep faster than you ever have before, secure that Jason won't let anything happen to you during the night. The last thing you register before unconsciousness is his dry lips pressed to your forehead again. Making sure you're alive. Reassuring you that he's here and always will be.

Drive Slow
Pairing: Ahn Su-ho x OC

There were not enough hours in a day for Ha-yun to spend an adequate amount of time with her boyfriend, Ahn Su-ho. He juggled three jobs while finding small moments to lounge around with friends, his grandmother, and herself.
It was those moments she treasured the most. Su-ho actively tried to find time for every person who was important to him and while the duration of their solo time was scarce; it was still meaningful.
They went to two different schools. He went to an all-boys school and she went to an all-girls school. Another eight hours scrapped from their relationship. So, they had to get creative. Three days a week, Su-ho would deliver takeout to customers and she would join him.
"You know you don't have to join me when I'm making deliveries." Su-ho knew his hours tired her for school. He could barely keep his eyes open at school and while he didn't particularly care about his grades, he cared for hers. He had just come back from dropping off two bags worth of food. He wore the red and black sticker-filled helmet she bought for him with a pout on his very kissable lips.
"I know." She shrugged, "I just like spending time with you."
"Maybe we can go on a date soon." He offered. He realized it had been a while since they'd spent the day together without their friends.
"We don't have to do anything." She rushed towards Su-ho and wrapped her arms around his neck. She was standing on her tiptoes, staring up into his pretty eyes, giving into the urge to press her lips to his. "Just being next to you makes me happy. That's all."
Ha-yun loved to ride with Su-ho. There was a certain joy that erupts in her heart as they speed past the night city lights. As they pass closing shops and late night stragglers. It felt like an entirely different world opens out when the sun goes down and while she did miss her bed in the dead of night, she felt right at home with Su-ho.
They were just two kids in love as they stayed in each other's arms for a moment. Sweet kisses shared under the moonlight. Su-ho's forehead brushing against her own while they relished in their warm embrace.
He left her breathless like always and, even after two years, he still found ways to leave her in such a state. If it were anyone else, she would have been terrified, but not with him. She trusted him with her heart as he did with his.
"Let's go." She whispered despite her body begging her to stay in his warmth. She pulled away from him, "You still have work to do."
He groaned, "Don't remind me."
"Come on, your highness." She teased while skipping to his bike, "Time is wasting."
He stared at her with an amorous gaze, "Do you only join me for my ride? Do you even love me?"
She let out an outrageous gasp, "How dare you accuse me of having such preposterous intentions! I obviously came to help feed the hungry."
"Is that so?" He arched an eyebrow.
"Yes!" She said asudden, "Absolutely."
Su-ho climbed on his bike and waited for her arms to wrap around his waist. "So..." He began, "You're going to deliver the next delivery to the apartment? Since you want to feed the hungry and all."
She silently yelled obscenities in her head. She HATED to exercise and knowing her boyfriend, he most likely would make her walk up the stairs as part of her 'training.'
For a time she avoided being tasked with such an occupation. Su-ho had dragged one of his friends, Si-eun, with the same excuse she used on her and to her luck, he wasn't here.
A plastic smile appeared on her face, not that Su-ho could even see it, and said with gritted teeth, "Absolutely."
"Great!" He said as the bike propelled forward.
Her grip tightened as the wind whipped her hair back despite the helmet she wore on her head. She wondered if this was what it felt like to be free; to be unbound by responsibilities. Ha-yun knew the feeling would vanish once the bike came to a halt. It was a sensation only meant for a fleeting moment; not a continuous rotation.
She found joy in experiencing it with Su-ho; although she didn't know if he too felt the same rush as she did. Maybe he didn't get the chance to as he's the one who's felt it for so long he's forgotten about it.
It was a surge to her bones; a charge to her veins. It was an impression that lingered in her soul. It was an absolute freedom in the finest of ways, however, the sensation was only unequaled when she was beside Su-ho. He made everything feel so much better without even meaning to. It was his unspoken superpower.
Does he know the way he makes her feel? She thought as they moved through the empty streets as if it was only theirs. How does he make her appreciate the small intimate moments they share together?
Everything was an adventure with Su-ho, even the more mundane task he somehow managed to find ways to brighten her day. No day with him was ordinary. It was exciting and whimsical. There was always something fresh in his presence. It was just who he was. It was one of the many things he did that compelled her to fall in love with him so long ago.
The only downside was that time always seemed to rush whenever he was nearby. The time they spent together was never enough and Ha-yun despised to go back to her apartment. It felt empty with him, Su-ho was her home, her safe space. Although she wished to spend more time with him she understood the limitations between them.
Su-ho was a deep sleeper and might not wake up if he slept in a comfortable bed. He opted to go to school and nap there. He wanted to make his grandmother proud of him for having perfect attendance even if his grades weren't the best from sleeping through his lectures.
She sometimes wished the light would turn red before they made it there. Give her a few more seconds with him; or that he would drive extra slow to prolong their time together. She wouldn't mind losing a few minutes of sleep for more time next to him.
Her heart dropped when she was in front of her apartment building. Her time with Su-ho had come to a close. She knew it wasn't as serious as she was making it in her head, but she cherished her time with Su-ho. Maybe she was too lovesick. Maybe parting wasn't supposed to disappoint her to this extent, but she couldn't help it.
She was in love. She mused.
Her arms loosened around his waist as she dismounted his bike. She slipped off her helmet before focusing her attention on Su-ho.
"Your humble abode milady." He joked.
"Thank you my wonderful steed" She returned despite the sorrowful sentiment taking root in her heart. "Text me when you get to your school."
"Okay." He nodded.
She could feel his stare on her as she walked to her door. She made eye contact with him as she glanced back one final time before waving him off.
Once she was safely inside her apartment, he rode off with her heart in the palms of his hands.

For the last eighteen years (the entirety of my adult life), I have never lived in a place longer than twenty-four months.Â
If youâre a renter, you know the deal: one apartment has leaks coming from the ceiling, thanks to a bathtub upstairs that the landlord never sealed up; in the next, you can hear skittering in the walls. I get a new job, so I have to head a mile south to find a commute that is tolerable. The relatively affordable one-bedroom on the corner where the ambulances are always blaring gets bought out, so the rent shoots from $900 to $1200 per month. Over and over the leaf blower of economic progress has expelled the flimsy debris of my life from the corners where it has settled.
There were less prosaic reasons for the many moves, too, like the 55-year-old roommate who would bang on my door at six in the morning accusing me of sampling her milk and let her dog shit on my rug. Or the boyfriend who stalked me after we broke up in graduate school, who would sit in the parking lot outside my window curled up into an angry, devastated ball, shrieking and crying until somebody came out the back exit and he could rush in to get me. I left the rug behind when I moved, because it had gotten stained. And when I escaped from the boyfriend, I left behind all the books from graduate school that reminded me of him, too.Â
As a renter (especially one with a limited income) you never have any control over your surroundings. Where you live, how much space you have, what pests reside there, what works in the building and what doesnât, how things get fixed, if things get fixedâââitâs all determined by market forces and landlord whims. Nothing is permanent, and everything is uncomfortable, so you learn to keep your life light and ready to be picked up and dashed away with at the first sign of trouble.Â
I never really learned to settle down into a place and let my weight expand gently all over it. It was better not to count on anything. Every time that I moved, I culled my possessions: the vintage exercise bike that I brought with me from Ohio got left behind when I darted from a depressing, windowless spot in Rogerâs Park to a tiny studio in Lakeview. When the studio in Lakeview had cockroaches crawling up the bathtub drain, I found a dupe of a subletter and left behind my desk and half my kitchen items, and used a $40 folding table from Aldi as my counter, dining room table, and workstation for the next five years.Â
Thatâs one thing that people donât talk about, when they complain about landlords: how much disregard for your surroundings that renting breeds in you. Itâs not only that the owner of your building never cleans the pipes. Itâs also that you have no reason to feel invested in the pipesâ long-term functioning, and every reason to feel bitter about the thousands of dollars youâre already wasting on a broken building each year.Â
And so you buy the Drain-o, even knowing it does damage. You donât invest in a hair trap, because it shouldnât be your job. Maybe you even flush kitty litter down the toilet, as one neighbor of mine did, because why the fuck shouldnât you? It almost feels like revenge to wreck a place that was never yours, even though the only people who will suffer the consequences are the poor broke renters who come after you.Â
There is no gratitude, no sense of continuityâââonly a steady march of expenses and breakdowns that never stop, until youâre kicked back on the street again. Â
But this June, after almost twenty years and fifteen moves across various apartments and sublets, I have finally arrived at a place where I might be able to stay a long time. Iâm no longer paying a landlordâs bills with my wages. I have become, as Eula Biss puts it, the husband of a space. This home is my duty to protect, to build up into something that might last for me and everyone else who passes through it.Â
Suddenly I can see the consequences of my actions: A stick of incense left burning on the bathroom counter leaves three small, orange marks I have to buff out with a scrubbing sponge and a layer of Barkeeperâs Friend. It was her idea to go with Trevor to the gym to work out to begin with. She didn't know that she'd be incredibly distracted while working out with her boyfriend.
He asks her if she wants to go with him about two weeks before Trevor is due back in Anaheim for the preseason. The pair go to the gym that he trains at while home in New York for the offseason. They put their things in Trevor's locker before hitting the floor.
Trevor goes through his stretches with her to make sure she doesn't hurt herself while working out with him.
"Do you want to do my training with me?" he questions. "Or do you want to go off on your own and do your own workout?"
"Show me how a hockey player trains, Trev," she tells him. "I want to see if I can do it, or at least try to keep up with you." She grins at him and Trevor shakes his head with his own smile on his face.
After stretching, they head over to treadmills. They mount their own equipment as Trevor says, "I always open a gym session with a mile. I usually alternate between running and walking the mile but with the season less than a month away, I amp it up and run the whole thing. You're welcome to try and keep up, or you can alternate like I usually do."
She nods and punches up the speed until she's jogging at a pace that is comfortable for her. Trevor's running slightly faster than she is, but she's doing this to keep up with him. He'll finish the mile before her but at least she's trying.
Two minutes separates their miles. Trevor finishes in just under ten minutes while she finishes just over eleven minutes. She managed to get up to his speed after slowly working her way up to it. They wipe down the equipment before Trevor leads her over to the bikes.
"Half a mile on the bike at my max speed," he tells her. "Helps me stay conditioned."
Trevor mounts the bike and he starts before she can get on. Her eyes land on his legs when they reach his top speed and almost falls to the floor.
The thing about dating a hockey player is they're always in great shape, but their thighs are extremely muscular. Trevor's have been insane since the day they met and she's had to resist every urge to jump his thighs so she can get off on them.
All she can think about is grinding against his thighs and using him to come.

"Mhm," she hums. "All good." The lie falls from her lips so easily despite the heat pooling between her legs. It's very distracting. Trevor is very distracting.
Labored breathing, a thin layer of sweat already forming on his face. He looks like sex right now, and she's never wanted to jump him more than she does at the moment.
Trevor squints his eyes at her and she involuntarily glances down at his resting thighs. Still muscular but not bulging like they were a few seconds ago.
When her eyes flicker back up to his, her boyfriend smirks at her. "You know," he begins to say. "I was going to do some cardio today. I think I can do some cardio at home though."
Her cheeks heat up as she gets what Trevor is trying to say without actually saying it out loud. She presses her own thighs together in an attempt to get some pressure on her core.

She grabs his hand and drags him back to the locker room where their things are stored in his locker. Trevor laughs as heâs pulled along behind her while sheâs on her mission to get out of the gym before she gets them arrested for public indecency.
The pair very quickly grab their things from the locker before heading to Trevorâs car. She gets in the passenger seat and looks over at her boyfriend. Trevor starts the car then looks over at her. âWhat?â he asks.
âNothing,â she replies. âJust thinking about something. It isnât important.â Her eyes drop to his thighs that poke out from his loose gym shorts. She crosses her legs to get some pressure on her core and clears her throat.
âYeah, okay,â Trevor laughs. âThatâs why youâre staring at my thighs again. I know what you want and maybe Iâll let you have it.â
She frowns as he backs out of the spot. âMaybe?â

She grabs his arm as soon as she crosses the threshold and pulls him back to her. She leans back against the door to shut it and pulls her boyfriend until he's pressed against her chest.
Without another second's hesitation, she cups the back of his neck and pulls him into a hot kiss. Trevor's hands fly to her waist to hold both of them steady. She puts both her hands in his hair holds and holds him close.
Trevor leans down and wraps his arms around her waist. He picks her up and walks them both over to the couch. He sits down and she immediately straddles one of his thighs. âOh, that kid is biking alone on a Saturday, better call the police AND social services!â
Jesus Christ no wonder people donât do shit outside, if thereâs always some cunt with a phone ready to call police, with a 50-50 change I get an officer on a power trip, I might as well just stick to browsing the internet at home.

I take so much comfort in realizing that life is generally kinder than my parents were.
Shoutout to government support.
Shoutout to the two Moms at the clothes store who told me I was gorgeous and gave me tips on how to wear the crop top I picked.
Shoutout to that friend who gave me a well-deserved scolding for going home alone (!) after having 4 teeth pulled, then bought me meds and food I could eat and stayed with me all afternoon.
Shoutout to the friend group who let me come over for dinner, then simply allowed me to depression nap in a corner while they chatted and caught up with each other on their week. This continued for months and I could do it again today.
Shoutout to group leaders who trusted me with responsibilities when I had never been trusted with anything ever before. I was legit confused by that for several weeks. It got me out of invisible mode.
Shoutout to all the people who generously gifted me laundry racks and microwaves and dishes and firewood and bikes and money.
Shoutout to the boss I really hated who really knew better than me when he told me to quit and take care of myself.
Shoutout to the wild discovery that happiness is allowed, no one expects anything of me, and I can do whatever the heck I want.
It took 10 trembling-rescue-kitten years to slow down and relax.
It's still a chore and an exercise to take pressure off and let go.
But for some of us, it really DOES get better with time.

Rainy Day Dropoff
How some of our favorite JJK men would handle a little downpour and getting your toddler off to daycare.
A/N: The bike in question is in the header image, a standard mamachari. The kid seat sits over the front forks, they're really easy to ride and control, especially if you have a battery-powered one. I love mine. I also deeply abhor morning drop-off when it's raining. Pickup is fun because puddles and playtime!

The morning drop-off, a routine you and your toddler have down to a science, a well-oiled machine. You leave the house at the same time every day, say âbye bye, papa!â and the two of you toddle over to your mamachari. Itâs a nice ride through the neighborhood over to daycare. Peaceful, quiet, a lovely time to teach your child about what they see and listen to their adorable attempts to repeat your words.
But this morning, itâs pouring rain with no signs of stopping. You steel yourself for the wet trip there and back, knowing that despite a rain poncho, a hat, and hood, you always come back giving your best drenched cat impression.
Ah, but your dear husband has heard your grumbling and decided to handle the drop off today.
Nanami Kento - Kento wakes up first and sees the weather. Immediately, he adjusted his morning routine to get both him and your toddler out the door and into both daycare and work successfully and on time. He doesnât often do drop-offs, but he knows how much you hate going out in the rain. Pulling out his waterproof hiking and rain boots, he sits by the door, and you watch little hands grab the tops of his boots as he tugs them on with exaggerated effort. You help both put their raincoats and helmets on (most adults eschew a helmet, but not your husband!) and see them out the door.
Kento quickly gets everyone situated on the bike under the parking space cover and sets off cautiously. Once at daycare, he sits your toddler on the spacious porch and runs back to zip up the rain cover on the bike seat, ensuring it stays dry for pickup in the afternoon. Luckily, your usually energetic toddler stays put under the overhang instead of bolting off. Dropoff is quick, everyone stays dry, and no accidental wet feet after taking off their boots and storing for the afternoon return trip.
Suguru Geto - Suguru checked the weather in advance and set his alarm slightly early to make sure he could get the bike moved over to a dry spot closer to the front door of the apartment building. Once everyone is out the door, he grabs an extra umbrella to provide extra coverage. Not a drop on either him nor your toddler as he gets them situated in their seat and the rain cover zipped down. He makes sure to draw a little flower in the fog forming on the plastic window. Hitting every puddle just to pull laughs from your toddler along the short journey.
Pulling out the extra umbrella at daycare, again a quick and dry transfer into the daycare. He repeats the routine at pickup and even brings a set of rain pants to let the little one splash around and remain dry before returning home.
Satoru Gojo - Satoru sees the rain and calls Ijichi to drive you and your toddler into daycare. On a normal, dry day he doesnât mind you biking the kids in. Even though everyone else arrives by car, you insisted that you use your mamachari. Itâs a gentle exercise, the view is stunning (especially in the spring while riding along the sakura-lined river), and the two of you strike up adorable conversations about what you each see. But in this weather, you easily relent and hop in the car.
Hiromi Higuruma - Your dear Hiromi has the best of intentions, both in boots, but oops the jacket is forgotten because itâs warm outside. The bike is parked under cover, sure, but thereâs a hole in the roof drainage right next to the bike, exactly in the spot he needs to stand in to put your toddler in their seat. While the ride is quick, his poncho hood flies off his head immediately, the wind buffeting you both. And despite his best efforts, he hit a few puddles along the way. At least someone finds them fun.
Once he arrives, he quickly grabs the bag of clothes and daily supplies and reaches into the seat, picking up the almost-2-year-old. As soon as he places them standing on the ground he hears-
âPapa, shoe! Papa, shoe!â
âShit, ah fuck, I mean, sorry!â failing to control his language knowing that that little toddler brain will absolutely pick up on those words and use it later. He looks down to see a little one-footed hop and a missing boot. Ah ha, it was in the bike seat. Quickly, but not fast enough, he manages to stuff the little, wet, foot back into the boot.
He picks up the bag and toddler and jogs over to the front patio at daycare. Shedding his poncho and punching in the door code, he sits your toddler down to take off boots and socks. And then he notices how wet the front of your toddlerâs clothes is. Right, wet poncho. After handing them off to the staff, he just gives a lopsided smile as they look over the wet patches on the toddler, running to see their friends.

Exam Room Performance
Synopsis: Fantasy Hospital. Doctors and Nurses are in silk robes and examine your heart in unique ways. Speaker stethoscopes, big screen ultrasounds, and plenty of exercise. As requested by @aheartsbeat wc: 1.2k cw: none
The room is cold and bleak, typical for an examination room. However, this was far from your typical examination room. This one was special. Different.
Each doctor and nurse wore luxurious silk robes with nothing underneath -- hard nipples and obvious bulges were not so hidden under the thin fabric.
And you. You also wore one of these robes. It was your favorite color and much different from your average, cheap hospital gown.
The room while it lacked in color and decoration, made up for it with the most interesting instruments you've ever seen; a giant screen that took up nearly an entire wall and stethoscopes with unusual bells.
Bells that looked like mini speakers.
On the other side of the room was a single stationary bike and treadmill. Would you be using those too?
"Please, lay down." One of the doctors spoke up in a soft tone, gesturing at the bed behind you.
Even the bed was different. Instead of those horrendous, rock-solid "beds" in normal hospitals, this one looked much softer -- comfortable.
And you were correct.
This bed rivaled the one you had at home. Soft and comfortable. You could easily fall asleep on this.
But a sleep study was not on the agenda for today.
Today you were going to be put through several cardiology examinations.
This small reminder caused your heart to pick up speed.
Looking back at the screen and stethoscopes on the wall, you pondered what they could possibly do with those. Soon, your questions will be answered.
With you now lying on the bed, several doctors and nurses got to work.
Some grabbed stethoscopes from the wall, two others grabbed what you assumed were ultrasound wands, while one started to set up the screen on the wall.
You gulped nervously and tried to focus on your breathing but your chest moved with each pounding beat of your chest -- giving away your excitement to the room.
The nurses with the stethoscopes gathered around one side of your bed while the doctors with the wands gathered on the other side. The one by the screen stood over by it.
Without warning, one of the doctors untied the knot on your robe, opening it up and exposing your chest to the room.
A few beats after that, cold gel was applied to your skin right over your heart and the two doctors with the wands placed them down on your chest.
In an instant, you saw your heart pounding on the giant screen on the wall.
It showed two different views. You're unsure which ones you're seeing, but you can't deny it was mesmerizing.
Watching your valves snap open and closed. Pounding harder at the scene but still staying strong and steady.
"Look at your heart," The doctor by the screen said while lifting their arm as if presenting it. "It's working hard...it's truly something, isn't it?"
Before you could think of a response to the question you felt several cold objects against your body -- the nurses holding the stethoscopes -- and quickly the room filled with the sound of your heart beating in sync with the ultrasound on the screen.
Bu-dum Bu-dum Bu-dum Bu-dum Bu-dum
Loud and fast.
You wondered how fast it was going until you realized the numbers in the far corner of the screen.
"128 BPM".
And steadily climbing.
You notice it get to around the 140s before the doctor at the front of the room once again speaks up.
"Okay, now I'm going to ask you to work your pump out for a bit." They paused for a second, "10 minutes on both the treadmill and bike at the highest intensity setting should be good enough."
And with that, the nurses and other doctors removed themselves from you, allowing you to get off of the bed and onto the stationary bike to start.
Once you were settled there, two nurses and one doctor put their instruments back on your chest, your heart on display and beats filling the room once more.
You started to pedal and quickly your heart rate picked up.
"That's good, just like that." The doctor praised you while watching your valves snap violently.

Your heart was now racing.
Bu-dum Bu-dum Bu-dum Bu-dum Bu-dum
Your breathing picked up, lungs trying to provide enough oxygen for your hard-working heart.
Finally, you reached mid 170s while on the bike and the doctor let you take a short break to catch your breath.
You felt your heart move the hands of the nurses and doctor up and down with each beat, hearing the chaos through the speaker stethoscopes. Watching the screen along with everyone else.
Your heart still beat strong and unwavering.
Only about 30 seconds passed before you were asked to move to the treadmill, wobbling your way over.
Two different nurses and the other ultrasound doctor now joined your side, waiting for you to adjust the intensity of the treadmill, then they placed their instruments on your chest just like the previous ones.
Just like the other times, your heart presented itself on the screen. Your heart rate lowered a bit, now at the low 130s.
But that would quickly change.
The belt started to move and you got to work, along with your heart.
As if it knew the deal already, your heart rate skyrocketed fast, reaching high 180s within 2 minutes.
BU-DUM BU-DUM BU-DUM BU-DUM BU-DUM
"You can do better than that." You swore you heard that one doctor say something again but you weren't sure. It could've been your own mind saying that this time.
No matter, you still pushed yourself.
You picked up your pace on the treadmill, breathing even heavier now, heart pounding and racing harder and faster as everyone in the room listened and watched intently.
Your valves were moving at such speeds that they seemed to not be moving at some points.

You felt as if your heart was going to pound out of your chest by now. Your pulse roaring and bouncing off the walls, throbbing against your neck -- you even felt it in the rest of your body.

You let out a sigh of relief as you were asked to stop the machine. Slowing down until it came to a complete stop.
Without removing the wand and stethoscopes from your chest, the nurses helped guide you back to the bed where you laid down again and tried to catch your breath.
Your heart still felt like it was going a mile a minute. Throbbing almost painfully against your chest. Now with this new angle, you were able to see it visibly shake your entire body, taking the hands of the nurses and doctor with it.
You turn your head to view the screen, watching as your heart slows but still continues to thump with purpose, now within the 150s range.
"Good job. We'll just keep you here, listening and watching your heart until it reaches approximately 60 to 70 beats per minute." The doctor that stood by the screen said with a smile.
At this rate, you'll be in this room with your heart on display all day.
Not that you were complaining.
