will not be able to touch kpop demon hunters with a ten foot pole, firstly because the concept is simply too much for me (imagine if hannah montana's schtick was 'vampire slayer and pop star, the best of both worlds') (bram stoker writes of an american cowboy who hunts monsters but is required to sing country music as he does it)

secondly (and this is the more important part) these Christian creators can't seem to process any indigenous religion without putting their fucking demons in the story

a Jeoseungsaja (poorly translated to Grim Reaper) is not a demon, they are the messengers of the underworld and guides into the afterlife. you're turning Hermes into a demon. you're flattening his cultural significance into the scary shadow those murderous missionaries killed people over. WE DON'T HAVE DEMONS, not unless you count the angry ghosts created from terrible deaths, and those are literally the spirits of dead people.

AND WHAT IS UP WITH THE JOKES AT THE ASIAN CULTURE OF RESPECT (this is the kind of shit that necessitates the "Tomo Arigato Bitch I aint Cho Chang" joke at the Racism) (Mulan wouldn't show this kind of disrespect to the Emperor)

the aesthetics seem well-researched, and it does look like a fun concept, but there is only so much American Cluelessness I can smile through at this point in time (with a year or two I might be able to psych myself up to watch this)

Not sure if you’re talking about IZ or Ducktales, so I’m going with Zim. I wish I can go step by step, but because I’ve been so used to this style since I been drawing it at the age of 12, it just comes naturally?? I will say back when I was a teen I had to look up A LOT of references and screenshots of the show and characters to have on hand when drawing. But here’s an old sketch I did of Zim that show’s how I mostly draw him!

redesigns of the leisure loaf and danger decor

why the redesign? it's fun and uh... there was a monologue here, but basically i don't like the originals! let's keep it at that

i wanted them to be more fantastical, yes the point of a mimic is supposed to be unassuming objects that suddenly spring to life and attack, but you know me, i'm more of a little creature guy so i made them more like that. it's also the reason why i changed their legs to look more like they're ready to spring at a moment's notice

my inspiration came mostly from bulldogs and pugs, their short and squat stature makes them a perfect fit for being translated into ottoman mimics. the main appeal of these dogs are their faces being all grumpy looking are and it just works really well for something that will immediately turn around and snap at you if you dare to try and rest your feet on them

these ones still have fangs, they're just better hidden! i prioritised their expression being the focus of their design so i had to drop them in favour of that being more readable. the patterns on their blankies too

i did consider giving the decor (pink one) white/cream venom so it can look more like neapolitan ice cream, sort of what i think they might've been going for in the original, but... you know. anyway, i settled on something that suggests that it's poisonous, like how the loaf's venom is this bright green. being bitten by a mimic is already something you don't want happening to you, so poison on top of that would make it something you super don't want happening to you

So I had Sinsmas paused on my browser to do life stuff as usual, I Will Be Okay was in my head, and I walked back to my computer after life stuff and realized the frame I had it paused on was

Their positions aren't just similar, they're reversed. In "I Will Be Okay", Via is on the floor and Stolas's shadow is standing up, looking down on her and reaching a hand to her from above, which she swats away. At the end of Sinsmas, Stolas is kneeling on the floor, with Via looking down at him from above, and her hand resting on Stolas's, which she pulls away from.

AND THE PARALLELS AND REVERSALS DON'T END THERE

From what I could see, it seems like there's only one instance where the parallel doesn't totally apply.

Watcher update gives me mixed feelings tbh. It’s been made very clear that they’re not business people but to overlook your entire audience while going over the logistics of moving your entire catalogue, past and future, to a paid platform????? The appreciation they’ve reassured us of just doesn’t seem as deep as it should be. I’m glad they’ve changed their model but knowing how poorly they’re spending money on (at least some of) their shows changes the way I might watch them

ok maybe this is just me but like, i Feel like people. underhighlight how a Lot of pvpers are just really really good strategists

(more rambling about this under the cut) but like. speaking from someone who's familiar with lifesteal and ivorycello's content, someone like clown isn't just someone who's 1) very skilled at the game, but he's also very good at picking up exactly what he lacks in and how to make up his skills effectively And efficiently

an example would be how clown grinded for 64 god apples because he knew how much the lifesteal server has improved at pvp in general (fun fact on his testrun ep he talks about how everyone has massively improved) (and on top of that him touching grass and not practicing /lh) but, since he knows he cannot rely on pure skill alone (and can't train that much in time) he makes up for those disadvantages by grinding materials to ensure he'll be able to get by, even if it's just barely (he also! observes other people's moves too! ex: during a s3 fight vi and some other people were chasing him down and were supply chaining until they finally wore clown down enough to kill him--and clown was a really good sport about it! and started talking to them about the supply chain strategy and complimented how it worked so well!!! he's good at analyzing stuff, with the whole thing about being able to reconize the other lifestealers have gotten so good that they'd probably kick his ass back in s2 now! the fact hes able to anaylize his own and others pvp is...really cool i think)

and ivory falls under this category as well, you can most clearly see it on her doly 1v1 video, but she's able to figure out exactly what aspects doly uses to his advantage (even to figuring out his ping and how they affect his pcrits) and from that she's able to figure out how to turn those exact methods on top of their heads and build up her own strategies to directly combat what doly was, probably, doing subconsciously. holy hell that's such a cool concept??? like ivory herself admits in her own video that she is a relatively new pvper and the fact she was able to synthesize that much information into a strategy that beat out someone who has so much more experince than her? that's so fucking badass

maybe this is just me not looking in the right places but. i Really do think people like clown's and ivory's skills as strategists should be highlighted more. like, i feel like it humanzies them a lot more. makes them feel like people that just so happen to be very skilled instead of undefeatable figureheads who are powerful beyond comprehension. even though that's their reputation, they're still just people at the end of the day and i think that's an interesting dichotomy to explore <3

I learn through independent research since for me it's easiest to just choose a topic and jump in on Wikipedia and then follow source rabbit holes. But your poll dividing kinds of learning made me curious; I haven't actually *tried* to search for any informal education style stuff online. And bc I tend to stay away from yt in general so my 'algorithm' there is nonexistent. Are there good youtube channels people would recommend for higher level math concepts?

It's not an easy question - by nature of informal science education, math on youtube usually focusses on being accessible and (therefore) not too high level. However, if you're willing to accept simplifications and avoidance of calculations, I can't recommend numberphile enough. They do a great job at making accessible videos while still touching on topics that go pretty deep, such as the Riemann hypothesis, high level probability theory (e.g. Martingales) and - as their name suggests - lots and lots of number theory. Another great channel I love is vihart - they don't post a lot these days but their strength lies in connecting secondary school level math to deep theoretical mathematics.

There's also a few tumblr blogs into high level math! I try to mathpost about more complex math from time to time, mostly explaining stuff about my own research. Those posts can get complicated but my target audience is still the average math-enjoyer-but-not-expert on tumblr. If you are more of a math expert (or want to be one), you could also check out my friend Roos' blog @bubbloquacious. They like to talk about their research as well, but usually their posts don't compromise depth for accessibility. Also, they're super kind, so if you don't understand a post they will likely be more than happy to explain!
