All Over You
Pairing: Max Verstappen x Reader
Summary: Touch has always been your love language, until one overheard conversation makes you question everything. When you start to pull away Max realises just how deeply he’s come to need it.
2.7k words / Masterlist
Max always says you’re like a blanket come to life.
You cling. You cuddle. You drape yourself across him the second the opportunity arises. If Max’s lap is free you claim it without hesitation. If he’s stretched out on the couch you’re pressed against his side before he even blinks. Your hand finds his thigh during dinner, your fingers sneak into his back pocket when you’re walking together, and every morning, like clockwork, your nose tucks into the curve of his neck.
It’s not something you think about, it’s instinct. It’s how you express the things you sometimes struggle to say. How you offer comfort. How you say I love you.
And for the longest time Max never says a word about it.
He lets you curl up beside him during movie nights. He leans into your touch when you rub lazy circles into the back of his neck while he’s gaming, or when you lace your fingers with his under the table at dinner.
So you think, this is us. You think, this works.
Until one night, when you overhear something you weren’t supposed to.
It’s nothing serious. At least, not really.
You’re padding back from the kitchen with a cup of tea, bare feet muffled by carpet when you hear Max talking on the phone on the balcony. His voice is low, casual. He’s talking to Daniel you think. Laughing at something.
And then you catch it.
“Yeah, you noticed huh? No she’s super touchy, always has been. Like, always on me.”
A beat.
“No, I don’t mind it. It’s just... I’m not really used to it, you know?”
You freeze, feet still against the carpet. The tea sloshes slightly, forgotten in your hands.
He laughs again, easy and relaxed. “She’s like a human magnet. If I’m sitting, she’s sitting on me. I swear sometimes I think she’d climb into my skin if she could.”
Daniel says something you can’t hear. Max chuckles. “No, she’s not annoying. She’s just... really affectionate.”
You don’t stay to hear the rest.
Your fingers tighten around your mug as you quietly retreat, heart a little heavier than before. You curl back into bed without saying a word, staring at the ceiling while your tea goes cold on the nightstand.
You’re not angry. He didn’t say anything cruel. Not really.
But for the first time questions being to lodge in your chest like a thorn... do I touch him too much? Does he just tolerate it because he loves me?
And just like that, something in you begins to shift.
You're still beside him. Still laughing at his jokes, still making him breakfast. You kiss him good morning and smile across the table. From the outside nothing changes, but the little things in all the tiny invisible places, the things that used to come so naturally they stop.
You don’t climb into his lap while he’s watching race replays, don’t tuck your face into the slope of his shoulder like you used to. You don’t slide your hand beneath the hem of his hoodie when you hug him from behind in the kitchen, fingers sneaking against warm skin. You don’t curl into his side when the movie starts, don’t tuck yourself under his arm like you belong there.
Instead you sit beside him on the couch with your legs tucked neatly under you, wrapped up tightly in a blanket like armour. A careful distance. A subtle retreat.
You keep your hands in your lap at dinner. You nod and listen and smile, but your fingers don’t find his thigh. You don’t reach for his hand beneath the table.
You still want to. God, do you want to.
Your whole body aches to reach for him, to run your fingers over his jaw, to smooth back his hair, to trace lazy shapes across his stomach. You miss the warmth of his skin, the steady beat of his heart under your cheek.
You miss being held without thinking twice, but now that you’ve heard him say it out loud, that he’s not used to it, that he’s not like you, you can’t unhear it. It loops in your mind when the silence stretches between you.
Slowly you start to convince yourself you’ve been suffocating him. That maybe the way you love is too much for him. That maybe softness, when it clings like yours does, feels like smothering.
So you pull back, quietly, carefully, and hope he doesn’t notice how much it hurts. Or worse that he does, and lets you do it anyway.
Max doesn’t say anything at first, but after a few days he starts to notice.
A few inches of space on the couch. Your hand not finding his like it usually does. The way you don't crawl into his lap during breakfast, don't lean into his side during movies, don't rest your hand on his leg during long car rides.
At first he tells himself maybe you’re tired from work. Maybe it’s just one of those quiet moods that passes like the weather. He gives you space, the way people are always saying partners should.
But the distance doesn’t fade.
It expands.
One morning he slips behind you in the kitchen to steal a piece of toast. Normally you’d laugh, you’d wrap your arms around his waist and bury your nose in his hoodie, but this time you step aside without touching him.
He frowns, just a quick flicker, then hides it, but his stomach twists violently anyway.
It’s not like Max to spiral. He’s not wired for emotional uncertainty he prefers problems he can fix with strategy, planning, control.
But this?
This isn’t a problem he knows how to solve.
The way you sit on the far end of the couch, legs tucked under you, scrolling on your phone like it’s more comforting than him. You barely brush his arm when you slip into bed at night. When he tries to kiss your neck absentmindedly like he always does you duck away, not unkindly, but enough to make him panic
He tries not to panic, but that’s what this feels like panic.
It gnaws at him over the next couple days. The silence between your fingers and his. The distance that didn’t use to be there. The way you won’t look at him for too long, like he might read too much in your eyes.
Max isn’t good with emotional guessing games. He’s never been the type to bottle things up or pretend everything’s fine when it isn’t. He doesn’t do insecure. He confronts things. Fixes things. Puts it all on the table and makes it make sense.
And Max doesn’t know how to read silence the way he reads telemetry. He doesn’t know how to fix something when he doesn’t know where the break is.
He replays your interactions hunting for the mistake. Did he forget something important? Miss a signal? Are you sick or bored?
Is she pulling away because she’s planning to leave?
The thought stops him in his tracks. His chest aches with it, sharp and sudden. He sits with it, stunned, rubs at his sternum like he can soothe the ache.
You’re still sweet. Still say good luck before he gets into the car. Still text him updates about your day, what podcast you listened to, what ridiculous thing your coworker said. Still fold his shirts when he leaves them in a pile at the foot of the bed. Still laugh at the stupid jokes he makes when he’s overtired. You're still there.
But it’s different. Your body has gone quiet, your touch has gone still. Less warm. Less you.
And Max, who never thought he’d crave something so soft, so intangible starts to feel the absence like a phantom limb, it feels like someone turned off the sun and expects him not to notice. And it terrifies him because he doesn’t know what he did to lose it, or how to ask for it back.
You can feel the ache in your chest growing stronger every day.
You don’t want to stop touching him. You miss touching him. You miss his warmth, the way he instinctively leans into your touch even when he’s focused on something. You miss curling into his lap without thinking, his fingers combing through your hair like it’s second nature.
But now? Every time your hand so much as twitches toward him, doubt rushes in like cold water.
Am I smothering him again? Is this too much? Is this what he meant?
You thought you were just adjusting. Giving him the space you assume he needs. You told yourself it was mature, respectful, kind, but it’s starting to feel less like an adjustment and more like a punishment.
Every second you don’t touch him? It hurts. In tiny, deceptive ways like a thousand paper cuts.
By the end of the next week, you’re sitting on the hotel bed in Jeddah, scrolling through your phone in silence, without reading a word, wrapped in one of his hoodies that still smells like his aftershave. Max pauses when he sees how far you’re sitting from the edge of the mattress. From him.
That’s when he finally speaks.
“Did I do something?”
You blink. “What?”
“You’ve been...” He trails off, eyes searching yours. “Distant.”
You hesitate. “No, I’m just tired.”
He studies your face for a long moment hoping you’ll offer somthing more, but when nothing comes he doesn’t push. Just nods slowly, then climbs into bed beside you.
You don’t cuddle him that night.
You face the other way, pretending to scroll while your chest feels like it’s being wrung out.
Max doesn’t say anything, but you feel the shift, the slight dip of the mattress, the warmth of his body inching closer in the dark, not quite touching. He stops just shy of you, like he wants to reach out but doesn’t know if he’s allowed to, like he’s hoping you’ll turn around and meet him there.
It takes until Sunday night, after the race for everything to crack open.
You’re both back at the hotel. Max steps out of the shower, hair damp and curling slightly at the ends, sweatpants slung low on his hips. You’re perched on the window seat, knees pulled to your chest, phone resting forgotten in your lap as you stare out over Jeddah’s lights.
You think maybe you’ll just go to sleep early. Then Max sits beside you.
He doesn’t say anything at first. Just sits close enough to feel the heat off your arm. He’s never been good at this part, the vulnerable bit. The what if it’s in my head bit. The what if I’m asking for something she doesn’t want to give me anymore bit.
The part where he has to name the thing that’s been gnawing at him for weeks. The part where he has to admit he's scared he’s already lost something and just hasn’t caught up to it yet.
He’s spent enough time memorising the way you speak when you're lying. You don’t flinch or fumble. You just get quieter. Softer. Like you’re afraid the truth will hurt more than the silence.
But he needs the truth now, because he’s been tying himself in knots trying to figure it out. Replaying conversations in his head, wondering if he forgot someone’s birthday or crossed a line or said something he shouldn’t have.
And now all he wants is to be close. To be touched. Held. Seen.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” he asks, voice low, trying to sound casual and failing miserably.
“Yeah…” you say, trailing off.
And then, when you don’t say anything else, something in your eyes flickers and he just knows.
Max’s heart kicks hard in his chest, the kind of lurch he only gets right before lights out. He swallows, throat dry, like he’s one bad move away from losing something he doesn’t know how to live without.
“I miss you,” he says, voice quiet. “Even when you’re right here.”
You close your eyes. Then you look at him, really look, and something in you gives. Like you’ve been carrying a weight for days and it’s finally too much to hold, too much to hide.
“I heard you,” you say.
His brow furrows. “Heard me?”
“On the phone,” you clarify. “With Daniel. A couple of weeks ago”
Max’s pauses for a second, trying to remember, and then his stomach drops.
“You heard that?”
You nod slowly, eyes still on the window. “You said I’m always on you. That I’m really touchy. That you’re not used to it.”
His expression shifts, jaw tight, eyes suddenly filled with something that looks a lot like guilt.
“I didn’t mean to eavesdrop. I wasn’t trying to. But after that...” You pull your sleeves over your hands, voice quieter now. “I started wondering if I’d been overwhelming you. If I was too much—”
“Wait, baby—”
“I didn’t want to make you uncomfortable, force you into something you don’t want.” you rush on. “So I’ve been trying to give you space. I thought that’s what you wanted.”
Max’s heart actually hurts.
He didn’t even realise how it might’ve sounded. He remembers the conversation now, half-distracted, casual, him laughing while Daniel joked about your human magnet tendencies. It hadn’t meant anything to him, just a passing comment… but it had meant everything to you.
“Hey,” he says, reaching for your hand. “Look at me.”
You look up. Max’s brows are drawn together. He looks devastated.
“I swear I never meant that in a bad way,” he says. “I wasn’t complaining. I was just… explaining it. I’ve never been with someone as affectionate as you, it caught me off guard at first sure. But I love it. I love the way you love me.”
A beat. His voice softens.
“When you stopped reaching for me, I didn’t know what to do. I’ve been going crazy wondering why it felt like you were slipping away.”
You bite your lip, blinking quickly. “I thought I was just annoying you, that you were putting up with it because you love me, not because you wanted it.”
His forehead drops to yours, hands sliding to your waist, holding tight. “No. God, no. Baby, it’s the best part of my day. You crawling into my lap, always reaching for me. It makes me feel wanted... like I matter, like I make you feel safe.”
He leans back just slightly, fingers sliding to your jaw, cradling it gently.
“I’m so sorry,” he says, eyes locked on yours. “If I made you feel like you were too much. If I made you doubt what we have. That was never what I meant. I hate that I hurt you. I hate that you thought you had to pull away from me just to make me comfortable.”
Your lips part slightly, like you're shocked by the weight of his words.
“I didn’t know what to do,” he admits. “Watching you pull away, thinking maybe I’d done something. I was scared I lost you and didn’t even know when it happened.”
“I wasn’t,” you whisper. “I swear I wasn’t pulling away from you… at least not like that, I just thought I was doing the right thing.”
“I know that now,” he says. “But please don’t stop. Don’t ever stop”
Your arms are around him before he finishes the sentence.
He exhales into your neck, like he’s been holding his breath for days. Pulls you into his lap like he’s afraid you’ll vanish again. His hands spread across your back, and for the first time in a while something in him settles.
You crawl further into his lap like it’s where you belong. Arms around his neck. Fingers threading into his hair. He exhales like someone finally handed him back something precious.
“I missed you,” he murmurs, voice muffled against your skin.
“I’m right here.”
He pulls back, eyes soft. “Don’t stop being you, okay? Promise me.”
You nod. “Promise.”
Later, curled up in bed, you trace lazy lines across his chest with your fingertips.
“You really don’t mind?” you ask sleepily.
“Mind?” he echoes, mouth brushing your forehead. “I crave you.”
You smile into his skin, small and shy.
He kisses your hair again. “You ruined me.”
“Good,” you murmur, already drifting.
You’re here. Wrapped around him, where you belong.
And Max? Max feels like he can finally breathe again.

any chance for a one shot of lando 👀 im like in between the idea of the f1 premiere in new york, like maybe a hard launch there or something idk! anyways love your work so much!
HELLO BABY ☆ lando norris

✦ . reader and lando have been secretly dating for over a year now, until she gets asked to host the red carpet for the F1 premiere in NY and lando decides to accidently launch their relationship.
AUTHOR TALKING -> love this idea!! thanks for the request anon, hope you enjoy 🤍

𓂃⋆.˚ yourname’s new story

An hour into interviews and greeting everyone who arrived at the premiere, Yn finally saw Lando walking towards her, with a big smile he walked up on the small stage. “Hey baby.” He whispers, making sure no one around them heard, as the microphones weren’t on yet.
She gives him a shy smile back, trying to hide her blushing as Laura Winter, who obviously knew about them, made small talk with Lando.
As they got the cue to start the interview, Laura started speaking “The next driver up on stage, it is Lando Norris.” She announced, as the crowd cheered.
Laura looked over at Yn, as her cue to continue. “So Lando-“ she started as he directly looked into her eyes with a knowing look.
“Hello.” He smiles.
“What was your first reaction when you saw the sport that you know and love turn into massive Hollywood blockbuster?” She asks him, trying to avoid looking at him knowing she’d lose her ability to think straight.
As he answered her question, she couldn’t help herself and admire her boyfriend she hasn’t seen in 2 weeks while just smiling at him. The interview continued, while Lando jokingly flirted with Yn, all she could think about was them alone again.
As they ran out of questions and it was time to say goodbye to Lando and welcome to next driver, he dropped a bom.
“Bye baby.” Lando says, quickly realising what he did and walking out of frame as quick as he could.

masterlist

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You forgot something," you called out as Lando stepped out of the McLaren hospitality unit, race suit half-zipped, sunglasses already in place.
He froze mid-step and turned, squinting at you with a dramatic tilt of his head. “No, I didn’t.”
You just raised an eyebrow and pointed to your chest where your necklace sat, simple and familiar — a delicate chain with a small charm he’d kissed before every session since Monaco last year.
What started as a joke had quickly turned into a ritual: pre-race, post-warm-up, every qualifying. He didn’t leave without it — or, more accurately, without kissing it while it rested on you.
Lando jogged over and stopped in front of you, grinning. “Okay, maybe I forgot something tiny.” It was his absolute favorite ritual, as it included his love and kissing.
“Tiny but powerful,” you teased. “The source of all your speed.”
“I thought my immense skill and jawline were the source of all my speed,” he said, his voice playfully indignant.
“False. It’s me. And this necklace.” You tapped the charm gently.
He leaned in, one hand cupping your waist lightly, and pressed a kiss right to the charm at your collarbone. “There. Luck secured.”
His lips lingered just a second too long. Just enough to make your breath catch. Then he pulled back, still holding your waist with that same cocky glint in his eye.
“See you after FP1?”
“I’ll be right here. Try not to drive into anyone.”
“No promises.”
It was a couple of weeks later, and you couldn't be at the race as your work schedule couldn't allow you to go away.
You weren’t supposed to miss Silverstone. It was your favorite track — his home race, your little tradition. Every year you brought him something silly or sweet: lucky socks, bad puns, or a tiny drawing tucked into his gear bag.
But this year had other plans. Your work had pulled you away just before qualifying. You barely had time to kiss him goodbye, whispering, “You've got this,” and promising to watch from your workplace.
Now, sitting in your work office, missing Lando more than usual, you clutched your phone and stared at the message you’d sent. Lando would do great; you just knew it.
You: You’ve got this. Go be fast and annoying. ❤️
No reply. Not even a read receipt.
You tried not to feel disappointed. He was busy. He needed to focus. You weren’t supposed to take it personally — even if the little charm hanging around your neck felt heavier today, like it missed him too.
Meanwhile, Lando was standing in the McLaren garage, helmet in hand, staring at his reflection in the side of the car. His suit felt too tight. His chest felt too quiet.
No kiss.
No charm.
You weren’t there.
He pulled out his phone and recorded a voice memo in a quiet corner before anyone could notice. He needed to act now; if not he would not get to his full potential.
“Hey, love… I know you can’t be here, but… I’m still going to kiss the necklace anyway — imaginary style. So… mwah. There. See? Lucky again. I love you. I’ll wave to the camera if I get pole.”
He grinned, hit send, and zipped up his suit. He walked back to the car, lighter, like the kiss had really been there. It soothed him; he was ready, and he would win for you, his family, and his fans.
Then he went out and put the car on pole.
Your phone buzzed just as the Sky Sports coverage switched to post-qualifying. Lando’s face filled the screen, grinning and smug, holding P1 like it was his birthright.
You opened the voice memo with shaking hands, and his voice — warm, teasing, just a little bit breathless — made your heart swell.
“I’ll wave to the camera if I get pole.”
Seconds later, on-screen, he threw up a small peace sign as the champagne sprayed.
You wiped at your eyes and laughed.
You (replying): You’re such a sap. I love you. Also, you owe me a grid-side kiss next time I’m there. P.S. You looked disgustingly handsome on the podium.
His reply came almost instantly.
Lando 🧡: I only look good when you’re watching. 🫶 Also, that kiss? Saving it for Monza. Front row. Full crowd. No backing out.
You: Can’t wait. Now go win tomorrow. Also, nice fake kiss. 9/10. Minus points for sound effects.
Lando: 😤 Rude. I practiced that.
The next day you watched the race like it was a film. Breathless. Intense. Loud. And Lando? He was electric. Smooth through corners, aggressive with overtakes, calm on the radio. Like he wasn’t just driving the car — he was the car.
And when he crossed the line first, P1 in bold next to his name, you cheered so loud your dad nearly dropped his tea. You were so happy for him; you knew it would boost his confidence a lot.
The broadcast cut to him on the podium, soaked in champagne, suit half-unzipped, and hair a mess. He lifted the bottle high, turned to the camera, and held up two fingers.
Not a peace sign. Not a celebration.
Just two.
For two kisses.
You laughed, heart aching in the best way.
Later that night, he FaceTimed you from the hotel, eyes tired but glowing.
“Hey, world champ,” you teased.
“Hey, good luck charm,” he replied, his voice soft, full of warmth. “You watched?”
“Obviously. Twice already.”
“You liked my wave?”
“I liked your everything.”
You turned the camera slightly to show your necklace — or rather, his lucky charm — still around your neck, as always. “I missed this,” he murmured. “I missed you.”
You smiled, touching the charm where it lay against your skin. “I wore it the whole time.”
“I know,” he said. “I imagined it. Every lap.”
You tilted your head. “So I am the reason you’re fast?”
He laughed, quiet and sweet. “Nah. I’m fast because I’m a freak of nature. But you? You’re the reason it matters.”
Your throat tightened. “Lando…”
“Yeah?”
“I’m keeping that voice memo forever.”
“Good. I left out the part where I almost kissed my steering wheel.”
You gasped. “Excuse me?”
“I panicked,” he said. “Desperate times.”
“You better kiss me twice to make up for it.”
“I will,” he said. “As soon as you get to Monza.”
You smiled. “Promise?”
“Make it three,” he added, looking at you with that soft, open expression he saved just for these calls.
“Why three?”
“One for luck,” he said. “One for pole. And one for the win.”

THE LAST RACE before the break fucked them both. Pretty hard. What was supposed to end with another 1-2 finish for the team turned into a disaster of strategy, pace, and pure bad luck.
Since getting back to Monaco, the fallout hasn’t left them alone. It’s pretty hard when everyone is talking about it; it can get lonely, too. Luckily for them, they’ve been texting back and forth for days, laced with sarcasm, blame, and just enough flirtation to keep the tension at its peak. However, neither of them said what they really wanted to say. But it was always there, between the lines as usual, and in the way her name popped up on his screen, making his stomach flip.
Every single time.

The bar is loud enough to blur that tension and even Lando, with his no-alcohol rule, is loose and laughing. They dance and talk about anything but racing, and for a while it feels like neither of them are carrying the weight of disappointment.
Friends come and go through their circle, a few fans spot them and ask for pictures — which they take, grinning too wide and standing too close for their own good. Somewhere between the fourth round of mocktails, a familiar song starts pulsing through the speakers, and that’s when she brings up the bet, half-laughing, stepping in front of him like she did back in the garage when she dared him.
“If I finish behind you, I owe you a private dance,” she said, confidence dripping from every word. She’d qualified ahead of Lando, and was so confident she can finish ahead of him, too. But since every race is unpredictable and full of unknowns, she ended up taking the checkered flag after him.
It was a joke, anyway. But she can’t say with all her heart that she hasn’t thought about it at least a few couple of times. Besides, it’s Lando who’s been constantly reminding her throughout the past few days and, even if it was in jest, the curiosity made her spend hours staring at the ceiling of her room, imagining different scenarios.
Now, it’s late when the door to his apartment clicks shut behind them with a clean, satisfying noise. Lando tosses his keys into the ceramic bowl on the console with more force than necessary, and while the keys clatter, one nearly skids off the edge, forcing him to reach for it instinctively. She doesn’t say anything, although she can’t help but finding amusing that the inanimate objects always decide to act up only when her teammate’s patience seems so fragile.
The sudden movement makes Lando whine in exasperation as she watches him kick off his shoes and drag a hand through his curls.
The place is quiet, as if reflecting their inner agitation, silently burning within. He’s not bothering turning on more than a lamp, but it’s enough to bathe the whole living room in a pale silver glow, making everything seem even more intimate than it should be.
As they step further into the apartment, the same silence hits them both, because it’s not just the sudden absence of noise, but the weight of it. They’ve never been this quiet around each other before. Usually, they’re the chaos in the garage, either laughing too loud or teasing mid-debriefs, always bringing the kind of energy that makes their engineers roll their eyes but secretly love it. Now though, it’s the first time neither of them knows what to say. Or how to act.
“Cute place,” she says, partly to break the silence, but mostly because it really is. Spacious, stylish, not super tidy, but very Lando in that sense.
“You know you don’t have to make small talk, right?” he laughs. “It was a stupid bet to begin with, since I was always going to finish ahead of you anyway.”
Her jaw drops slightly at the cockiness in his tone. This is the Lando she knows and, in other circumstances, she would find his confidence hot, but right now it only makes her want to knock that look off his face. Or sit on it just to shut him up. Either works.
“Always eager to finish first? Got it,” the playful jab lands right where she intended without too much effort; it’s a split-second flicker in his expression, the twitch of his jaw, and the way his arms tense.
That’s the spot, she thinks. That’s where it bruises his ego, not because it’s crude, but because it’s enough to sting. Which only makes her want to push harder.
Lando’s grin flattens a bit. “Well, someone’s gotta lead the way,” he replies casually, even though he caught her double meaning phrase.
“Right. Leading the way because you can’t pace yourself,” she fires back.
He chuckles. “Sounds like an excuse from someone who couldn’t keep up.”
They’re toe-to-toe now, all bite and smirk and so much tension. She’s half a second from throwing a cushion at him just to knock that pretty smile off when she glances past his shoulder and, without another word, she steps forward, fingers brushing lightly against Lando’s arm as she urges him to move out of her way, wandering farther into his apartment like she owns the place.
“Interesting,” she mumbles. “I saw you with the camera before,” the girl continues as Lando turns to follow her silhouette. “How about you film me while I dance? Give you some new material for land0.mov?”
Lando’s expression twitches barely, but she’s still able to notice it. That small flash of disbelief, quickly masked by a half-laugh, like he’s not sure if she’s joking or just testing him.
“No way, mate,” says Lando, but it’s already too late.
She nods slowly, letting the weight of her intention settle in the air they share. His boyish smirk fades into curiosity in an instant. It’s like watching him put a helmet on: composed, dialed in, serious in a way most people rarely get to see.
To give him more space to process, she veers toward the low shelf by his TV, crouching slightly. “Let’s see. Which one’s your favorite?” she asks nonchalantly, running her fingers along the row of cameras lined up like little trophies; old film bodies, modern DSLRs, and a few point-and-shoots with scratched lenses.
Lando stares at her like she suddenly grew two more heads in the meantime. “You play too much, you know that?”
“Yeah,” she shrugs, glancing at him over her shoulder. “Which one?” she repeats.
He blinks, opening his mouth to speak, but nothing comes out at first. After he rubs the bridge of his nose, Lando exhales slowly. “The, uh… the Leica. Second from the left. Black one,” he instructs. “I rarely use it, which makes it special, I guess.”
She lifts it delicately, turning it over in her hands. It’s heavier than she expected, sleek and cool against her skin. “Nice,” she grins. “Bet it makes everything look expensive.”
Lando hums in agreement, “Only shoots what’s directly in front of it. Look,” he says, getting so close to her that he’s now towering over her frame, while pointing at the camera. “Fixed lens, see? No lazy zooming, but the resolution is insane. The tricky part is that you have to move it yourself to get the shot you want,” he continues.
She looks up at him, noticing a slight shy grin tugging at the corner of his mouth. And, just when she thought Lando couldn’t get any nerdier, she hears his voice again.
“It’s a twenty-eight millimeter lens. That’s not crazy wide,” he informs her. “If you stay in the middle, the background’s gonna fall off all soft and blurry. Makes it feel…” he trails off, clearing his throat. “Personal. It’s not even about perfect framing or whatever,” he rushes to add. “It just catches whatever’s there, no hiding.”
“Did you use it before?” she asks, curiosity pulling the words out of her mouth without having the time to think them through.
“I did,” he replies with a grin, giving her enough time to come up with her own scenarios before adding, “On my cars.”
She smiles, her eyes sparkling in the dim light of the room. “So. If I move, you have to follow, hm?”
Lando nods.
She sets the camera down gently, then leans against the wall beside the shelf with her arms crossed. She’s aware that what she’s suggesting it’s pure insanity, especially after what’s been happening between them lately.
“Okay,” she finally says, holding her hand toward him, palm open. “Can I see your phone for a sec?”
Lando frowns, trying to hide a curious smile. “Why?” he asks, sliding the phone from his pocket and unlocks it, handing it over with suspicion in his voice.
She only flashes him a smile back, thumbing through his apps until she finds the little Spotify icon. A few seconds later, the speakers come alive with a sultry bassline that wraps the room in a charged ambiance.
The teasing in her voice is easy to catch next time she asks, “You seriously have a sex playlist called sex playlist? Men are so predictable.”
He chuckles, “Yeah? What’s yours called?”
“I’ll send you the link,” she winks at him jokingly, but that still has an unexpected effect on Lando. Maybe because he’s starting to understand that his teammate is hardly ever joking, actually.
For a second that feels like a week, he doesn’t move. Doesn’t speak. Just watches her, every muscle in his body taut like he’s holding himself back from something that’s about to come out anyway. It has to. Because everything has a limit, and theirs was crossed from the moment she entered his apartment.
With a quiet exhale, she presses herself lightly against the wall, then pushes off and crosses the living room in steady, cat-like steps, taking his hand in hers, fingers threading through his. Her touch is warm and somehow reassuring, her palm so small and silky against his. She guides Lando toward the couch with intent as if this isn’t his own home, nudging him gently until he sits.
She breaks away then, walks back across the room, and returns with the Leica in hand. “Turn it on,” she says simply, with enough clarity behind her words.
Lando stares at her, dumbfounded for a beat, before the corner of his mouth twitches upward in disbelief. “You’re insane.”
“I trust you to capture the best in me,” she admits.
He lets out a heavy breath, something between a laugh and a groan, and flips the switch at her insistence. The familiar click of the camera waking up is giving Lando chills, but when he glances up again, his hands still adjusting the ISO, she’s already pulling the shirt over her head, revealing a black bra and her toned shoulders dusted in the dim light.
She tilts her head. “Just make sure I look good, Lando.”
With that, she starts moving as slow as possible, every inch of revealed skin feeling like it’s offered, not given.
Lando’s hands are steady on the camera, but for some reason, breathing doesn’t feel automatic anymore, and he’s currently aware of every shaky breath he takes. His fingers work on instinct, dialing the aperture wider, letting in the glow of the cool lighting. His pulse is racing, heavy in his throat, because he can see everything through the lens, but is still not ready to look at her in the flesh.
For her, it’s easy to notice how focused he is, so she glances straight into the camera on purpose, with a spark of mischief in her gaze, like she knows exactly what she’s doing. To him. As a result, Lando’s knee starts bouncing, restless, his breathing too shallow to be subtle. He can’t remember the last time he felt so tightly wound, but it doesn’t even matter because what happens now will stay with him for a long time, and this is all he needs to remember from now on.
And then, it gets worse.
He stares at her while she’s arching slightly as she undoes her bra clasp, letting it slide off her shoulders and onto the floor without breaking eye contact with the camera. At that, Lando looks away out of instinct — out of that last shred of decency clawing at him. But the camera stays trained on her, and when he lifts his gaze again, it’s like a dam breaks inside him. Violently. The hunger that flashes across his face is instant, and impossible to hide. He doesn’t even try, because what fool could ever take his eyes off her?
Lando adjusts himself without thinking, moving in sync with her teasing gestures as she peels her panties down her legs from under her skirt. He tells himself to stay focused and capture the sensuality of her body with the last fragment of professionalism that he possesses. But that’s a losing game when his own body is burning with need, and every subtle curve and line of her turns into a map that he’s desperate to explore as soon as possible.
His focus lingers on the swell of her breasts, her nipples tightening in the open air. It forces him to swallow hard, a deep ache growing both inside him and his pants, knowing how badly he wants to lean forward and suck them into his mouth, to feel the heat of her skin against his tongue.
The camera dips lower as she dances to the hypnotic rhythm of his music, and Lando keeps working with her, baring the elegant slope of her waist and the strong lines of her thighs. The way she stands there, so natural and confident, feels like a direct hit to his chest that he welcomes without hesitation or any intention of dodging. She’s pure femininity, and that throws him into a black hole made only of her, where the gravity is so strong that there’s no escape.
He’s so focused on her that he almost stops breathing in order to make sure he gets the perfect shot, every shot. That makes Lando’s hand tighten around the camera, his knuckles whitening from the pressure. But his body has a mind on its own, apparently, and his thighs flex like he’s one wrong move away from standing. From closing the distance between them. Against his will, though, he sits there, shivering with the effort to stay still.
“Come on, Norris,” she says, and her voice wakes him up from the trance her shapes put him in. “I’ve seen you take tighter corners at Spa with less hesitation.”
Even though he tries to, he can’t stop the throaty laugh that comes out of him. Only for a moment, Lando lowers the camera again, and lets himself, finally, finally, see her. And this time, he doesn’t look away. He watches her shamelessly, while reaching behind him to take a cushion that he ends up tossing onto the floor near his feet, nodding toward it.
“Go on, then. Show me how desperate you are.”
There is something about the way he says it that sends a thrill straight through her. She heard that Lando is direct when it comes to his wants and needs, but to feel it on her skin hits different. Her pulse suddenly stutters with excitement as she lowers herself in front of him, straddling the cushion, her body already anticipating the liberating feeling.
The moment her hips roll forward and her mouth falls open in surprise at the faint pleasure, Lando is right there, capturing every gasp, every twitch, and every sweet reaction like it’s the only thing that matters. His mind runs wild with all the places he aches to touch — his hand curled around her throat, palms squeezing her breasts, fingers digging into her hips to hold her still while he teases her until she begs.
The temptation claws at him, full throttle. But he forces himself to handle the camera like a pro, because more than anything, he wants her to see what he sees: how devastatingly beautiful she is like this, undone and bold. Through his own lens, she’s a vision, and giving her that full picture keeps him going.
From her perspective, noticing Lando’s determination sends a fresh wave of heat throughout her body, making her rock her hips a little harder, and that puts a tension in his shoulders. A type of need he didn’t feel before.
To stop herself from making more embarrassing sounds, she meets his gaze over the camera, mouth slightly open. “Is this good?” she asks, voice breathy and half-mocking, although there’s something real underneath. A dare. A plea.
Lando looks at her again, revealing a flushed face and his blown wide pupils. “Yeah, don’t stop,” he replies hoarsely.
Her thighs squeeze around the cushion from the moment she hears the first note in voice, the soft fabric teasing against her clit with every slow roll of her hips, pulling breathy sounds from her. Behind the camera, Lando tails closely as she grinds back and forth, his jaw clenching at the small sounds slipping past her lips.
“Shit, that’s hot. Are you always this needy?” he asks out of pure curiosity, but the question is mostly rhetorical; of course she is. Judging by the way her chest heaves and how she leans forward slightly to catch as much friction as possible, the answer is obvious.
She wants to push back against the power shift, but she’s too lost in the rhythmic movement of her body. And it’s not as if Lando’s wrong. Every gentle brush gets increasingly out of control, each desperate grind into the cushion sending small waves of pleasure straight to her nerves, making her fingers curl into the couch for balance. For the control she’s rapidly losing.
Her eyes flutter closed for a moment, mouth constantly parting as the pleasure spirals inside her like a coil wound too tight.
Lando’s fingers flex over the shutter release, but he’s barely present anymore. He’s completely absorbed by what is happening on the other side of his lens, and it’s her moan that pulls him out of it, just as the pressure builds. So he reaches out, his hand entering the frame like an unexpected guest. With ease, his fingers grab the edge of the cushion beneath her, and she pauses, blinking up at him, flushed and dazed, breathing heavily like she just stepped out of the car after a last-lap push. With one strong pull, he slides it out from under her, making her gasp in surprise, her body jolting at the sudden loss.
“Lando,” she exhales irritated.
She gets her hands onto his knees to steady herself, thighs still wobbly, but he’s not looking at her anymore. He’s too busy staring at the soaked fabric instead, darkened with heat and want and everything she didn’t say out loud.
“That good?” he asks, but the arrogance in his voice diminished, giving way to his sincere curiosity.
She shakes her head, looking up at him again. “Not faking it, if that’s what you’re thinking.”
The fact that she is as sincere in her statement, encourages Lando to take things to the next level, just to see how much he can push before it’s too much. He throws the cushion aside with a thud, his eyes lit up with need.
“Come here,” he orders in a gentle tone, patting his lap.
She’s stunned at his words initially, and the way they leave no room for teasing. But then she catches the way his tongue drags slowly across his bottom lip, leaving it wet and shining, and something inside her pushes her to get up. She realizes that there’s nothing she wouldn’t do if he asked.
With calculated steps, she climbs him patiently, her thighs spreading over him. They’ve been in each other’s personal space in the past, when they had to do silly challenges for McLaren to entertain the fans. Still, even though there’s a camera between them just like before, the air feels different, charged with desire, unknown, and heavy lust. Because this time, it’s just them.
When her body sinks onto his, the scabrous fabric of his jeans meets the soaked warmth between her legs, the weight making Lando groan silently, his little sound hitting her low in her stomach. His reaction encourages her to continue, shifting on top of him in order to find the best position, enough to grind against his bulge. It’s thick and hard beneath her, and the simple contact is already maddening. Yet not nearly enough, and the realization that he’s just as affected by this makes the coil in her stomach tighten further.
“Keep going,” he speaks again as he lifts her skirt up to her waist, going back to the camera and angling it to capture the way she moves against him, right where her skin meets the fabric of his pants.
Her palm comes around his bicep for suport, letting the instincts guide her further. The pressure she chased a moment ago is still there, but it’s different this time around. More intense.
Lando grunts, his free hand gripping her hip to show her the pattern to follow. She whimpers while that sweet ache comes back, her body trembling with need. In no time, she can move on her own, and because she’s such a fast learner, Lando points the camera closer, eager to capture the wetness soaking through.
“Fuckin’ hell,” he says. “You’re making such a mess,” he exhales, bringing his hand between her legs to feel it before he could even process his own action. His thumb finds her clit, rubbing it gently, keeping his eyes on her face the whole time, craving to catch every reaction.
She moans, one hand squeezing his arm harder as her body rocks forward, chasing the release that she hopes it’s not that far into the future, especially if his hips continue to twitch beneath her the way they do, so impatient and reliant on her.
Unfortunately, the time almost stops the moment their faces get close enough to kiss. She can feel the heat of his breath and the pull between them, and she’s sure he can feel it too. Her eyes flick to his mouth, and Lando’s eyes stay on her, but no one dares to close the small gap. Because somehow, that would be more intimate than all of this. Kissing would mean acknowledging what’s been burning between them for a while now. It would mean admitting this is real, and admitting will complicate everything in both their personal and professional lives.
And neither of them are ready to take that chance yet.
With that in mind, she doesn’t lean in. She just closes her eyes and grinds harder, her hips rolling against his hand and the hard line of his cock beneath her. The sensation amplifies fast, and Lando never stops working her with his thumb. Soon enough, her breath comes out in spasms and her thighs start to shake. Her pace intensifies, chasing the high that’s been teasing at the edges of her patience, feeling the mess she’s made slick against Lando’s pants with every desperate press on it. Still, his hand stays steady, rubbing perfectly against her clit, matching the rhythm of her hips like he knows exactly all the ways she wants — and craves — to be touched.
With Lando’s help, it doesn’t take long until her body finally seizes, hips jerking forward uncontrollably as pleasure crashes over her. He moves with her, a silent apology for stopping her earlier written into every precise touch, making sure this time she falls apart completely. Because of him.
Luckily, the camera captures everything: his hand on her, the wet spot she’s left on his pants, the way her skin flushes and seems to crave more with each passing second, and the way her thighs shake when the aftershocks hit. It catches the way she starts trembling, too, body overwhelmed, aching for something deeper, something only he can give her right now.
Only he gives her time to ride it out instead, feeling all the ways her walls flutter, hungry and empty, and the sound that tears from his throat is nothing but a helpless moan. The sensation alone, even without him inside her, is enough to make his head spin. It wrecks him completely, makes him ache with the violent need to know how it would feel to be buried deep inside her, to have her tight, needy pussy squeezing around him while she comes undone all over again. Because of him.
The girl barely registers the camera being placed in her hands until Lando nudges her chin. “Here. See for yourself.”
Except, she doesn’t want it. Not yet. By her own choice, she takes it gently from his hand, presses RECORD again and turns it around, placing it on the padded arm of the couch. Facing them. Remembering Lando’s voice earlier, casual and offhand when he said that the camera only captures what’s in front of it.
Her fingers move impatiently, drifting to the hem of his shirt, bunching it in her hands. “Since you let me finish first,” she rushes to explain.
With that, she pulls the shirt up, and he lifts his arms to help her, muscles tightening under skin slick with the faintest sheen of sweat. Once it’s off, she tosses it to the side, her eyes drinking him in. Lando is warm under her palms, his chest rising and falling with each heavy breath, and she senses the same tension in him that’s barely holding him together.
She studies his face while her hand drifts lower, trailing down the center of his stomach, pausing at the waistband of his jeans. Carefully, she slips her hand inside, where she finds him hot and so painfully hard that it makes her mouth water. Without any instructions, her fingers curl around his soft skin, and the sight alone makes his stomach flip. She starts to stroke him teasing, but before she can go quicker, Lando grabs her wrist, groaning low in his throat.
“Just a sec,” he pants, voice cracking slightly. His hands are already moving, guiding her hips back over his lap with a need that borders on desperation.
This time, there’s no fabric between them, and her soaked heat presses directly against his length, making them both shuddering at the contact; skin on skin and no more barriers, just the unfiltered reality of what they both want. His hands find home on her hips, big and heavy, his control hanging by a thread.
Agonizingly slow, her clit slides along his hardness, slick and warm, sending sharp jolts of pleasure from one body to another. He can barely contain himself at the way she finds it so easy to rock against him, faster when she feels how thirsty Lando gets in a matter of seconds. He’s leaking already, the head of his cock glistening, smearing against her folds as she moves.
Completely flushed and utterly drunk with pleasure, he shifts beneath her, his arms wrapping tight around her waist, pulling her closer, even though there’s no physical space left between them. But it’s useless. No matter how close they are, there is only one way that would truly satisfy his urge.
“Please,” he whispers next to the shell of her ear, desperate and breathless. “Can I slide in?”
She’s a lost cause by now, and her reply is reduced to a broken hum, while she sits up just enough to guide the thick head of his cock to her entrance. Lando’s patience snaps at her quick response, and he thrusts his hips up in one motion, his hands holding her hips and pulling her down onto him at the same time. The stretch is overwhelming and takes her by surprise, knocking the wind out of her and making her vision blur at the edges as she tries to take all of him.
They moan together, helpless, her hands landing on his chest as she laughs shakily. “You trying to break me in half or?”
“Didn’t think you’d be so tight,” he groans in a strained voice.
Lando tries his best to take it slow, but the way she welcomes him, so warm and perfect, nearly undoes him the moment he’s all in. A shudder runs down his spine as he grips her hips with more force, thinking maybe if he doesn’t hold her right, the world will actually end.
And it may, based on how her hands are sliding up, clawing at his shoulders with her nails digging in to anchor herself. Her breath shudders out in short bursts as she does, her body struggling to adjust, to take everything he has to offer. All of him.
To test the waters, she starts circling her hips, hoping she’ll find the angle that makes her breath hitch, and when she does, it’s like lightning strikes between them. He’s impossibly deep, touching places inside her she didn’t even know could feel this good. Her pussy hugs him so tightly that Lando has to grit his teeth to shut himself up. Then she tilts her hips forward just slightly with every grind, rocking her clit perfectly against his pelvis while he’s buried inside her.
The effect she was looking for is instant, and she hears Lando choking on another moan, finally, “Fuck, yeah. Right there,” his fingers dig into her skin, hunger battling in his wide eyes. “Do that again, it feels so fucking good.”
“Shit, Lando,” she breaths out. “So deep, I can feel you everywhere.”
She pulls him in again and again, until he is practically whining beneath her. Seeing Lando so lost inside her makes her losing the rhythm, her breathing turning ragged, thighs ready to give up as exhaustion and pleasure blur into one. It’s messy and greedy on both sides, and when she finally collapses against his chest, she sobs out a cry, her voice cracking with it.
“Need you,” she exhales. “I can’t hold it anymore.”
Lando doesn’t waste a breath. One sharp, hungry movement and he’s planting his feet against the floor for leverage, thrusting up into her with everything he’s got. She gasps at the same time he groans deep in his chest, the sound vibrating between them as he finally takes her the way they’ve both needed.
Her mouth goes dry.
His jaw tightens.
Their breath grows heavier, shared in the tight, sweaty space. Her body tenses, then squeezes around him with such perfect pressure it leaves him breathless. A high-pitched moan spills from her, unexpected and honest, and she slaps a hand over her mouth, biting at it in order to shut herself up.
Gently, Lando catches her wrist, holding it firm. “If you’re gonna bite something,” he tilts his head, offering his shoulder, “Be a good girl and bite me instead.”
Her breathing is too fast and her mind runs at the speed of an F1 car. She can’t think straight and, for a moment, she just stays there, her forehead brushing the curve of his shoulder as she tries to catch herself from falling in too deep. Then slowly, like she’s giving in to something bigger than her, she places a kiss on his skin. Her lips press gently on it, trailing along the line of his neck to the dip of his collarbone. It’s the closest thing she’ll ever give him. The closest thing to letting herself feel for him.
He’s still warm, salty with sweat, and soft under her lips. And he smells so good, like skin and heat and something clean that clings to her nose and settles in her chest like smoke.
It drugs her.
The way his scent mixes with the feel of his breath against her temple, the way his pulse flutters beneath her lips — she has to stop. It’s too much, too close, too real.
“Think we should bet every race weekend, what do you say?” asks Lando, his pace quickening, hands guiding her up and down his cock like it’s the only thing that keeps him sane. “Would die to have you like this all the time, hm?”
“Mhm,” she grinds down until his name is all she can say. “Fuck. I’m so close.”
“Yeah, baby. I feel you.”
Her voice breaks off into a moan right when she’s about to speak again, to tell him not to go there and call her that. But Lando rolls his hips, pushing deeper, filling her inch by inch until there’s no space left, which shuts her up in an instant. They fuck in a rhythm that shouldn’t work, all sweat-slicked skin and shaky breaths. The air fills up with obscene sounds of them, their bodies colliding with enough force to make her whimper and moan his name all over again, each time he thrusts.
To help himself, he spreads her wider, holding her open for him, watching the way he disappears inside her, utterly wrecked by the sight. “Taking me so fucking well,” he says between thrusts, dragging his mouth over her jaw. “Look.”
She whines while looking down at where they’re joined. Lando moves his gaze on her expression with a grin on his face, so proud when he feels every spasm in her body; it’s a total mess. Her slick is all over him, coating his cock, his thighs, soaking through the waistband of his jeans that are still shoved only halfway down his hips. Each time they meet, there’s a wet sound echoing between them, sticky and warm, ricocheting against the walls in Lando’s living room like a drumbeat pulling them closer to the edge.
“You like how wrecked you’ve got me?”
She nods frantically, squeezing him so tight it makes Lando see stars. At that, he reaches up, brushing the strands of hair from her face, tucking them behind her ears with his long fingers. His hand stays there a moment, continuing to slide lower, fingertips skimming her jaw, then wrapping gently around her throat, enough to feel her pulse. To hold her in place.
In a matter of seconds, their eyes lock again. Her chest heaves and her eyes shine, but not just from pleasure. It’s because she wants to tell him that this isn’t what she expected. It’s much, much more, and it will leave a deep mark, no matter which path they’ll choose to take tomorrow morning.
His hands move hungrily, down from her neck to her chest, cupping her breasts, thumbs brushing over her nipples. He holds them carefully, wanting to memorize the shape, the weight, and the way they fill his palms, to make sure he won’t forget a single detail about her body.
“Lan,” she warns.
Lando hums, “Mhm. Right there with you, beautiful,” he assures her.
Her breathing is jagged, the rhythm of their hips desperate, chasing the edge that’s been teasing them since the moment she sank down onto him. Every motion drives him deeper, sends wave after wave crashing through her, because she’s right there for quite a while now.
“Hi there,” Lando’s voice brings her back. His hand comes up to cradle the back of her head, gently pulling her to see her face. “Look at me, I want to see you. Let me see you.”
Her body tenses, and just for a split second the frantic rhythm stutters, then finds its pace again as the orgasm rips through her with a blinding force. She keeps her eyes on his the whole time, riding it out with her hands burried in the curls at the back of his head. His hips jerk beneath her as he throbs inside her, overwhelmed by the way she fights to keep him in. It drives him crazy, and he moans loudly, trying to pull out, but her thighs close tighter around him.
“Inside,” she rushes to say, unable to form sentences longer than one word.
Lando’s jaw clenches so hard he feels like his teeth might snap from the force, every muscle in his body pulled tight and shivering. He holds on by a thread for half a second longer, but then her body flutters around him again, and with a loud, guttural gasp, he lets go, spilling inside her in thick pulses that only make her hold him tighter. His hands shake where they clutch at her hips, trying to pull her down even harder, like he can’t bear even a sliver of distance between them right in this moment.
None of them knows how much time passes like that, but neither of them moves again. She’s stays slumped against his chest, her face buried in the crook of his neck, while his arms stay locked around her waist, as if letting go might break whatever just happened between them.
Lando presses his cheek on the top of her head, his heart hammering so hard he’s sure she can feel it. But it’s fine, because he can feel hers, too.
His hands drift up and down her back in aimless strokes and, while she starts to come back to herself, she notices the music still playing softly around them, the same sultry beat from earlier floating through the air.
Her brows pinch together in confusion before realization hits. “How the fuck did you time your playlist so perfectly?”
Lando lets out a breathless laugh, “Talent.”
She snorts, dropping her head back onto his shoulder with a groan. “Goodness gracious, it is so hard tolerate you.”
“Liar,” he says, “You wanna kiss me so bad.”
She scoffs, rolling her eyes, but the way her cheeks heat up gives her away immediately. Lando laughs under his breath again, cocky and so annoyingly right. She opens her mouth to fire back, to tell him that no, she definitely doesn’t want to kiss his smug ass, but then her eyes catch the little red light blinking from across the couch.
The camera. Still recording.
She nudges him softly, grinning against the flush in her cheeks, and points at it. “Smile and wave, Norris,” she whispers, and Lando immediately flashes the most ridiculous smirk at the lens, making her laugh for real this time.

Pillow Problems
Pairing: Lando Norris x fem!Reader
Genre: Fluff, best friends to something more
Word Count: ~2.2k
Summary: You can’t fall asleep without hugging a pillow. Lando finds out.
⸻
It starts as a casual movie night.
Nothing fancy. Just you and Lando in sweats, too much popcorn, and a ridiculous action movie neither of you are really paying attention to. It’s late — past midnight — and you’re both curled up on the couch under a shared blanket like it’s the most normal thing in the world.
Because with Lando, it kind of is.
You’ve been best friends for so long that sleepovers don’t even feel weird anymore. He’s crashed on your couch after race weekends more times than you can count, and you’ve stolen his guest bed on road trips whenever hotels were overbooked.
But this time… there’s only one bed.
Your bed.
“You sure you’re okay with me sleeping in here?” he asks, leaning against the doorframe, toothbrush in hand and curls still damp from his shower.
You roll your eyes. “Lando, I’ve seen you wear flip flops with socks. You think I’m going to draw the line at you borrowing my bed?”
He snorts and throws a hand to his chest. “That was ONE TIME.”
You toss a pillow at him. “Brush your teeth, Norris.”
Fifteen minutes later, the two of you are under the covers. You’re on one side, he’s on the other. very obvious pillow barrier stands between you, like a soft, cotton fortress of boundaries.
But there’s a problem.
You can’t sleep.
At all.
You stare at the ceiling. Then at the nightstand. Then at the outline of Lando’s face in the dark, just barely visible from the glow of your phone charger.
He’s still. Breathing slow. Definitely asleep.
And you’re… not.
Because — and this is ridiculous, so ridiculous — you can’t fall asleep unless you’re hugging something.
A pillow. A blanket. A stuffed animal. A person. Doesn’t matter. Your body just doesn’t shut off unless your arms are around something.
You try. You flip the pillow over. You bury your arms under it. You wrap the blanket tighter around yourself.
Nothing.
You’re one hour in when the whisper comes.
“Are you… okay?”
You flinch. “Jesus—you’re awake?”
Lando turns onto his side, blinking slowly. “You’ve been breathing like you’re trying to inflate a bouncy castle.”
You bury your face in your pillow. “I can’t sleep.”
“Why?”
You hesitate.
“Y/N.”
You groan. “It’s stupid.”
His voice lifts with amusement. “Now I definitely need to know.”
You sigh, dramatic. “I can’t fall asleep unless I’m hugging something, okay?”
Silence.
Then—
A loud, stifled laugh from the other side of the bed.
“Oh my god,” he chokes, “you’re like a human koala.”
You smack him with your pillow. “Shut up.”
“No, no, this is adorable. Do you need, like, a teddy bear? A weighted blanket? Should I draw a face on one of your pillows and pretend it’s me?”
“You’re the worst.”
He’s laughing, full and unfiltered now, twisting the sheets as he rolls away dramatically. “Y/N, my heart. All this time I thought you just liked cuddling me during movie nights, but you actually have a condition.”
You throw your hands over your face. “Please stop talking.”
Then—softly, after a pause—his voice shifts.
“…You could’ve just said something.”
You peek through your fingers. He’s looking at you now. Still teasing, but softer. Gentle.
“Wanna hug me?” he asks, cocking a brow like it’s the most casual thing in the world.
Your breath catches. “You’re serious?”
“Dead serious,” he says, already sliding an arm out, inviting. “C’mon, koala girl.”
You glare. “If you call me that again, I’ll smother you with this pillow.”
He grins. “I’ll take the risk.”
You hesitate. Just for a second. Then you scoot closer, cautiously curling against his side, arm draping lightly across his chest.
And god — it’s perfect. His body is warm, steady, and somehow smells like mint and laundry detergent. Your muscles sigh in relief.
“You’re like a human radiator,” you murmur.
He chuckles, voice close to your ear. “You’re welcome.”
You fall asleep faster than you have in weeks.
And the next morning, you wake up still tangled in him — his arm heavy around your waist, face buried in your hair, breath soft on your neck.
You try to move.
“Don’t,” he mumbles, still half-asleep. “I’m your pillow now. Deal with it.”
And you kind of… do.
⸻
Sunlight spills through the half-closed blinds, catching dust motes in golden streaks as the room slowly warms with morning.
You’re awake.
Barely.
And very aware that you’re not alone in your bed.
Lando’s arm is still wrapped around your waist, heavy and warm and not even a little bit apologetic about being all up in your space. His chest rises and falls steadily against your back, his breath slow and even — he’s still asleep, or close to it.
You consider moving.
Really, you do.
But your limbs are lazy, your brain soft and sleepy, and honestly? He’s comfortable. Too comfortable. Like he was made to be a human-sized heating pad designed to be clung to.
His fingers twitch slightly at your hip.
You freeze.
“…You’re awake, aren’t you?” he murmurs against your neck, voice rough with sleep.
You sigh. “Yeah.”
He doesn’t move. Just hums. “Told you. Human pillow.”
You can hear the smugness in his voice, even through the sleep.
“I was desperate,” you mumble.
“Sure you were.” He yawns. “Could’ve hugged a pillow, but nooo. You went straight for me.”
You elbow him gently. “I tried the pillow.”
He just pulls you closer. “Mhm. Addicted now. No turning back.”
Your cheeks flush — and not just from the proximity.
You should pull away. You should. Friends don’t… do this. Or at least, you and Lando never have. You’ve always tiptoed the edge of this kind of closeness — flirty jokes, knee touches during movies, that weird moment last Christmas when you almost kissed but blamed it on mistletoe and wine.
But this?
This feels like something else.
You twist slightly to face him, only to find his eyes open, heavy-lidded and watching you.
“What?” you whisper.
He shrugs, smile lazy and lopsided. “Nothing. Just thinking.”
“About what?”
A pause.
Then, softly: “About how I could get used to waking up like this.”
Your heart stops. Completely.
He sees it. Feels it, probably. Because his smile shifts — less teasing, more vulnerable. More real.
“I’m not just saying that ‘cause you’re warm,” he adds.
You blink, the air suddenly too thick to breathe.
“Lando…”
“It’s okay,” he says gently. “You don’t have to say anything. I just— I think maybe this whole human pillow situation works both ways.”
Your fingers tighten in the sleeve of his t-shirt.
And just like that, the teasing melts away. The barrier between best friends and something else thins, bends, and threatens to break entirely.
“I liked waking up with you,” you admit, voice small.
He smiles again — that quiet, soft smile that doesn’t belong in interviews or podium photos. This one’s just for you.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
Neither of you move.
Not yet.
Because the line is still there, but now you’re both standing on the same side of it.
⸻
You eventually untangle from each other.
Sort of.
By which you mean Lando finally rolls away only to immediately steal your pillow, shove it under his head like it betrayed him, and mumble something about needing a ten-minute nap before coffee.
So you leave him there — hair messy, half-asleep, wearing your hoodie like it’s always belonged to him — and shuffle into the kitchen.
Your legs feel weird. Your chest feels… floaty.
You touch your lips once when you’re sure he’s not looking.
Nothing happened. Not really.
But it almost did.
And it’s enough to change everything.
⸻
You’re halfway through cracking eggs into a pan when you hear the soft shuffle of feet.
Lando appears in the doorway, stretching with a sleepy groan, his hair a disaster and his eyes still heavy with sleep.
He looks like a dream you forgot you had. Like something that’s always been yours but never belonged to you.
“You’re cooking?” he mumbles, rubbing his eyes.
You shrug. “Seemed fair. You donated your body to science last night.”
He smirks as he comes up behind you, not even pretending to keep distance. He leans over your shoulder, chin nearly brushing your temple.
“That was a very important cuddle study,” he says into your ear, voice low and teasing. “Purely scientific.”
You fight a shiver. “Well, congratulations. You’re now certified as a human-size emotional support plushie.”
He chuckles, arms brushing yours as he helps you reach for the salt.
Silence falls. The soft sizzle of eggs fills the space. His presence is everywhere — beside you, behind you, in you — and it’s like neither of you know where to put all the things you want to say.
Then—softly, like it escapes without permission:
“You meant it last night?”
You turn your head slightly. “Which part?”
He doesn’t look at you. Just keeps gently stirring the eggs. “That you liked waking up next to me.”
You hesitate. Then: “Yeah. I did.”
A beat passes.
He nods, silent, and grabs a plate. You watch him.
He places a serving of eggs onto the plate and hands it to you without meeting your eyes. “Me too.”
Your fingers brush when you take it. Neither of you pull away.
He finally looks up.
And there’s that moment again — the one that feels like you’re both standing at the edge of something huge. Something terrifying and beautiful.
“Lando…” you start.
But the words don’t come.
Because part of you is still afraid. Of ruining what you have. Of hoping too much. Of the way your heart has never felt this calm around anyone else.
He sees all of it. You know he does.
So he just smiles, soft and sure.
And says, “It’s okay. I’m not going anywhere.”
⸻
You eat breakfast shoulder to shoulder.
There are no declarations. No kisses.
But there’s a shared mug of coffee between you.
A soft look that lingers longer than it should.
And when he picks up your extra pillow later — the one you clung to for years before last night — and tosses it to the corner of the bed with a smirk, all he says is:
“You won’t need that anymore.”
⸻
You’re not sure why Lando doesn’t leave that night.
He doesn’t say he’s staying.
He just… doesn’t go.
You wash dishes together after dinner like it’s routine, like he’s done it a hundred times — and honestly, maybe he has. He scrolls through Netflix while you wipe down the kitchen counters, making dramatic sounds of disapproval at your movie suggestions. He disappears into your room at one point and comes back wearing one of your oversized sweatshirts like it’s his.
No mention of going home. No keys. No shoes. Just… him. Staying.
Again.
By the time you brush your teeth side by side — like you did last night, like it’s just what you do now — there’s a low buzz in the air. That awareness. That heaviness. Like the next thing might tip the whole thing into something neither of you can come back from.
You’re quiet as you climb into bed.
So is he.
The blanket settles over the both of you, and your hearts race a little too loud for a room that’s supposed to be quiet.
Then, softly—
“D’you still need something to hug?”
You let out a soft breath. “Yeah.”
He turns toward you in the dark. “Okay. C’mere.”
You hesitate only for a second this time.
You move closer. Not just tangled up like last time, but facing each other. His arm slides around your waist like muscle memory. Your hand finds the soft fabric of his sweatshirt near his chest.
You fit.
Better than you should.
You’re not even pretending to sleep yet when he whispers, “I didn’t leave because I wanted to stay.”
You blink slowly. “I know.”
“And I didn’t stay just because of you needing a pillow.”
You smile faintly. “I know that too.”
A beat.
He breathes in. “I don’t want this to be a thing we don’t talk about.”
Your heart flips. “Me either.”
“I don’t really know when it started,” he continues, voice low, “but I’ve wanted to kiss you for a while now. It just always felt like… if I did, I might mess it up.”
Your hand curls into the fabric of his sweatshirt. “You wouldn’t.”
He moves closer.
You feel his breath against your skin, soft and cautious. One hand lifts to your cheek like he’s checking to see if you’ll pull away.
You don’t.
“You sure?” he whispers.
You nod.
And he kisses you.
It’s not rushed.
It’s not perfect, either — his nose bumps yours, your hand fumbles awkwardly as you find his jaw — but it’s real. It’s warm. And it means something.
You can feel it in the way his fingers tighten on your waist. In the soft sigh you let out against his mouth. In the quiet, trembling kind of relief that settles between you once you both pull back.
You stay close.
Foreheads pressed. Noses barely brushing.
You could say something. Make a joke. Ask what this means.
But you don’t.
Because he’s already whispering, “Okay. I’m definitely your pillow now.”
And all you can do is laugh — quietly, into the space between your mouths — before tugging him back down and whispering,
“Yeah. Mine.”

what happens in vegas, does not stay in vegas | ch. 01

pairing: oscar piastri x leclerc!reader
summary: down in the dumps after a big loss, your brother charles decides to stay in instead of going out to party, believing his fellow drivers would keep you from doing anything dumb while out on partying on the vegas strip. that was his first mistake. the next morning his wakes up to the news that you’ve went and gotten yourself married, but who could possible be stupid enough to take advantage of charles leclerc’s baby sister?
warnings: talks about men being creeps. drinking. lando and oscar being proper gentlemen, reader's age is not specified but its mentioned she's in her twenties! reader has everyone wrapped around her finger, oscars antisocial.

next chapter ->
Charles Leclerc was a lame, little, whiny baby, loser. And you would’ve said it to his face…if he wasn’t giving you his card so you can buy drinks and souvenirs all night.
It was the Sunday of the big race in Vegas Nevada, coincidentally the first time you'd been in the States, and like any irresponsible twenty-some-year-old would be, you were more excited about the after-party then the actual race.
"Are you sure you don't want to join?" you shouted towards the hotel bedroom, you had your small setup in the bathroom, you pulled down your dress slightly and adjusted your hair before slowly stepping out of the hotel bathroom.
Charles perked up from his phone, shooting you a small smile, he had placed four in the race, something you found impressive (granted you found anything your big brothers did impressive) while he did not, hence him being a debbie downer and refusing to join you, and his fellow drivers on a night out at the Vegas strip.
"I'm sure, Piccina" Charles sat up, pushing his card towards you on the white bed sheets, "Just be careful?"
You nodded eagerly placing this card carefully into your wallet while smiling at the nickname, Piccina, meaning tiny, it had been your nickname ever since you were little, and him using it gave you the comfort of knowing he wasn't secretly mad at you for ditching him while he was down in the dumps.
"Who's going again?" Charles chimed from behind you as you adjusted yourself in the mirror.
You hummed, thinking, "I know Lando for sure."
Charles snorted, muttering, "That wasn't a question."
"I think Oscar, Carlos..." you paused, hoping you didn't hit a nerve, but he simply nodded, "Max might show up...Franco's a yes, Lance, Fernando, and maybe Pierre?" you turned to him with a smile.
Charles shook his head slightly, "Pierre's staying back with me."
You shot him a funny look, "Date night?"
Charles's laughter rang out in the room, he pulled a pillow from behind him and shot it at you, "You're not funny!"
You stood up, throwing the pillow back at him, "You sure are laughing!"
Two stood around for a few more minutes, with Charles refusing to let you leave out alone, insisting you waited for Lando to pick you up. You groaned, "He's taking forever!"
"I don't care!" he matched your tone, "Its dangerous, you could get mobbed or something."
"And having Lando is going to help that, how?" you rose a brow, and his awkward silence made you smirk in triumph.
He huffed, rolling his eyes, "He won't help with the fans, but he’ll help if some creep tries touching you."
You couldn't argue with that.
Just as you were going to try and argue your way out of the door, again, a small knock rang throughout the room.
You beamed, skipping over to the door, as you opened the door, Lando snapped his head up, a whistle leaving his lips, "Looking good, Leclerc!" he cheered as stepped into the room slightly. You smiled as you gave him a slight spin.
"Thanks Lando," Charles joked, you slapped his arm slightly, rolling your eyes, "You know he was talking about me."
Charles rolled his eyes as he and Lando 'bro-hugged' while you went around the room making sure you had everything you needed.
'"Okay, I'm ready!" you cheered, walking over to the two men. Charles nodded, looking you over once more, Lando made his way out the door.
"You got everything?" Charles checked, you nodded brightly, leaning over to give him a hug, "Phone? Charger? Bandaids? Condom?—“
"Charles!" you shrieked, feeling your body heat up as you heard Lando's faint giggle.
Charles held his hands up in defense, "I don't like talking about it either, but I rather you be safe."
You groaned, taking small steps towards the door, "Yes, Charles I have everything."
Charles smiled, holding the door open for you and you stepped out and stood by Lando, "Good. And remember if you need anything, call me."
"Sir yes, sir!" you saluted jokingly.
Charles turned to Lando, "Keep her safe, alright?"
"Sir yes, sir!" Lando mocked you, Charles rolled his eyes as you and Lando burst into laughter.
"Very funny.." was the last thing he muttered before shutting the door in your face.
☾
You and Lando walked side by side in the busy streets of Las Vegas, your eyes shone brightly as you took in the new scenery. When you were younger you didn't necessarily get to travel much because all the extra money went to karting and competitions.
You never complained, even when you had to give up your own dream of being a Formula One driver so Charles could have his chance. He was a great talent, everyone in the family recognized that, and you eventually got over your silly dream.
Since that day when you were ripped apart from your passion, Charles promised he would grant every wish you ever wanted. ‘We’ll go the States and eat everything!—And I’ll buy you everything because I’ll have money from Ferrari!’ he said as he wiped your tears from your puffy cheeks. You knew he only said that because he felt it was his fault you didn’t get to live out your dream. And although you would never admit it to anyone, because it made you feel like a horrible sister, sometimes you did resent the decision made by your family— you had talent too. Why was Charles the only one who got the chance to be great?
"Never been to Vegas?" Lando's voice cut through the silence, he was carrying bags and bags of all types of items, clothes, souvenirs, jewelry, you name it. You had really gone crazy. Since you had about an hour to waste until you were all supposed to meet up, you decided to get all your shopping done early.
You had wanted to hold the bags, but Lando instead he do it, saying it was the 'gentlemen' thing to do.
"No." you breathed out with a smile, "I don't get all the hate this place gets, it's beautiful."
Lando snorted, "I've never heard that said about Vegas before."
"People aren't as deep and sentimental as me Lando, you should know that by now," you wiped a fake tear from your eye and Lando burst into laughter.
You smiled, eyeing the bags in his hands once again, "Are you sure we shouldn't take this stuff back to the hotel?"
Lando nodded, pulling the bags closer to him, "We have a private area in the club, we can put them there."
You 'oohed', "Private area huh?"
"Only the best for Ms. Leclerc," he smirked.
"Oh please," you laughed, "You just don't want anyone to record you getting wasted."
"Okay, maybe that too."
You shook your head as you and Lando crossed the street, you caught a glimpse at the club down the strip, "So who's officially going?"
"I know Oscars going."
"Because you bribed him?"
"Yes."
You and Lando both giggled, swerving in between people, "Carlos is going..." Lando eyes you carefully.
You held your hand up, "What happens with Charles and Carlos on track is none of my business...plus they're like a bipolar couple, they'll be back to charlos in no time."
Lando thought for a second before nodding, "That's why carlando is better."
You shook your head with a smile and Lando continued, "George is going, so is Alonso, Max, Franco, Yuki, and Lance."
"No Alex?" you questioned.
Lando shook his head, "He said he's taking Lily on a 'supes romantic vegas date."
You awed, before frowning, "I need a boyfriend."
Lando smirked, turning to you, "You know I have the perfect guy—“
"Lando!" you heard a familiar accent shout near you. Both you and Lando snapped your head up to see Carlos waving widely at you two, while the others pretended not to know him.
"Carlos!" Lando shouted, lifting his arms up, the multitude of bags almost smacking you in the face.
You would think they hadn't seen each other in years with the way they embraced each other, you could only watch in amusement before you felt a slight tap on your shoulder.
Turning around you came face to face with Oscar Piastri, he just got cuter each day, "Hi." he mumbled as he pulled you into a soft hug. "I didn't see you today, and I didn’t want you thinking I was being rude or avoiding you.”
"You? Rude? Never," you mumbled with a smile and he patted your back softly, "I didn't think you would make it.." you pulled back and he shot you a questioning look, "I don't mean to offend but this doesn't seem like your type of place."
Oscar smiled, and you two started to make your way into the booming club, with Oscar's hand resting on your back, you made sure to greet everyone with a smile.
"It's not!" he yelled so you could hear him, while also making sure he wasn't too close to your ear. "Lando bribed me!"
You nodded, laughing, "Yeah he told me! How much did he give you?"
Oscar's face burned red—not that you could see it—"It wasn't really a..money bribe!"
You turned to him confused, but before you could ask him to clarify, you were both halted when Lando seemingly appeared out of nowhere, making you both pause.
Lando already seemed off his rocker, eyes moving side to side widely, "I'm going to get drinks!" he yelled, shoving all of your bags into Oscar's arms, who took them in surprise, "Our area is over there—" both you and Oscar turned to where he was pointing simultaneously, "Have fun okay?" he shot you two a big thumbs up before getting lost in the crowd.
You and Oscar both stood still for a moment before you slowly turned to each other, "How is he already drunk?" you asked, trying to take the bags from Oscar's hands, but he simply swerved around you, nodding up to where Lando pointed previously.
"I can take those, you know?" You yelled over to Oscar as you started climbing the stairs up to the top portion of the club, you could hear the big change in volume as you got higher.
Oscar gave you a funny look, "What type of man would I be if I let you carry these heavy bags?"
You didn't have an answer. It was a big culture shock when you realized men weren't exactly like your brothers, your brothers always treated you like gold. But once you went out to the real world, you were quick to realize that was not the norm.
Oscar took a slight peak into the bag, "What exactly did you buy?"
"Lots of things with my name on it," you laughed, taking a seat on the sofa next to the big group of drivers, who all acknowledged your existence with a smile. You watched as Oscar followed in your steps, taking a seat next to you, his knee touching yours.
"Examples?"
"You name it... license plate, shirts, bracelets, necklace."
"A true Vegas staple." Oscar nodded in approval, turning his whole body toward you.
You beamed, turning toward him as well, eager to keep to conversation going, "So...how do you feel about the race?"
Oscar laughed slightly, taking a peek behind you, "Probably a lot better than your brother."
You nodded with a pursed smile, "Probably,"
"Is that why's he's not here?"
You shrugged slightly, "Maybe. He said he just wasn't feeling it, but who knows?"
"Do you think they'll stay mad at each other for long?" Oscar's voice was now a quiet whisper, clearly trying to avoid attention.
You shook your head, "We have a flight back home tomorrow night, they'll be fine by then." you know that because you had told Charles that if they didn't fix their problem before said flight, you wouldn't be going home with them, you could not deal with that awkwardness. And Charles would do anything for you, so of course he and Carlos were going to make up.
Oscar perked up, smiling at you, "I'm going home on that flight too."
Your face lit up, "You live in Monaco now right?"
Oscar nodded bashfully, he had made the move early that year, during the ‘Leclerc-Piastri adopted son’ situation. He was very quiet about it, so he didn’t expect you to know about it—or frankly, care. “Y-yeah, I thought it would be better with all the traveling.”
“And the tax-evading.”
Oscar let out a loud laugh, no doubt catching the attention of others scattered around the room, you watched him cackle with a smile. “How are you liking it?” you asked.
Oscar sobered down slightly, a grin still present, “It’s not home…but it’s….Monaco.”
You threw your head back with a smile, “It’s better when you get past all the cars and celebrities.”
Oscar nodded, “One of my first days I went hiking," you remember seeing the picture he posted, all sweaty, your eyes widened at the memory, and you shifted flustered "It was nice."
"I can show you some better places if you'd like?
"Really?" Oscar's eyes were wide, full of excitement.
You nodded proudly, "Of course, I've given everyone here a tour of the city, I'm a great guide if I do say so myself."
The lights in Oscar's eyes diminished slightly, for a second, there, he thought he was special, he coughed awkwardly, "Oh yeah?"
You eyed the group behind you, "Since everyone here apparently loves tax evading, I've taken it upon myself to teach them about my home."
Oscar giggled slightly and you contained, raising your brow, "I'm surprised I haven't seen you around, I see George at least three times a week."
Oscar flushed, and this time he was sure you could tell, "Oh I..." he sucked his teeth, "I.. don't really leave my house."
You started at him with squinted eyes for a moment, "...Because of the fans?"
"No...no."
"Because you don't have a car?" you asked, recalling the photo of him riding a bike around the city months ago, you would've thought he would've bought a car since then, or at least borrowed one.
"I have a car."
You laughed in confusion, "Okay then why?"
Oscar shrugged, playing with the ends of his sweater, "I just don't really like to go out."
"Like ever?"
"I go to... grocery stores."
"Oh, Oscar..." you sighed, and the man jumped to defend himself.
"I play sim a lot!...and that's like talking to people?..."
You winced, "Is it though?"
Oscar sighed, looking down at his lap, "...No..."
You pursed your lips, patting his knew softly, "Its okay Oscar...I'll make sure you go out more."
Before he could respond, Lando's loud cheers emerged from the staircase, and Oscar felt your attention slip away from him.
"I'm back, and I bring drinks!" Lando shouted as he hurried over to the group, a tray filled with drinks in his hands. The others cheered. The drink was purple, and it seemed to be fizzling as everyone took one.
"What is this?" Lance blinked up at Lando, who shrugged, Fernando took a small sniff before pulling back in shock; the others looked at him in worry, as he coughed, waving everyone off.
"I have no idea!" Lando yelled, and the other slowly started to put the drink down, "The bartender just told me it would make us forget who won the race tonight!"
Just like that, everyone had picked their glasses back up and quickly swallowed down the drink. Georges's face went black as he rolled his eyes, taking a small sip of his drink, "Assholes.." he whispered.
☾
"You have really pretty eyes..." Oscar slurred as he watched you lay down on the couch, he sat on the floor, legs crossed over each other as he stared into your face.
You hummed, "People say me and Charles have the same eyes..."
Oscar blinked, "Charles has pretty eyes..."
There was no one left awake in the 'private' area, the men were either down on the dance floor, or asleep on the ground, such as Lance, Franco, and Yuki.
The drink had no effect at first, so everyone felt confident drinking another....and another...and another, and before anyone knew it, everyone was far gone, way far gone.
You giggled, bringing a drunken smile onto Oscar's face. You continued to giggle before your face turned serious.
You turned to Oscar with a glare, Oscar visibly jumped, "Do you have a girlfriend, Oscar?"
Gaping in shock, Oscar shook his head like crazy.
Your glare hardened, "I'm gonna need you to say it."
"I don't have a girlfriend." Oscar replied instantly.
You stared for a couple more moments before a bright grin took over your face, "Thank god!" you giggled before turning serious once more, "It seems like everyone is dating someone, and it makes me feel lonely." You quickly (with a small struggle) sat up from the couch, grabbing Oscar's hand.
“At least you don't have a girlfriend.”
Oscar, the most out of it he's ever been, swayed side to side, “I want to be your girlfriend.” he mumbled, pressing a soft, delicate kiss to your hand.
You giggled, throwing your head back, “Not girlfriend! Boyfriend silly…and I don't think whiny baby Charles would like that…”
Oscar sat up straight, “I don't care what Charles thinks,” he did, he really, really, did. “He shouldn't control your life.” In any other situation, Oscar would never say anything like this, in fact, one of the primary reasons he never man up and asked you out (other than the fact that he was sure you did not like him that way) was because he wasn't sure Charles would approve. And if he didn’t have Charles’ approval, then what was the point in even trying?
“He just thinks he knows best,” you mumbled through a frown. “He doesn't control me…does he?”
Oscar slipped his hands away from you, moving his arms widely “No! No…I’m dumb, Charles would never control you..”
But it seemed like you weren’t listening anymore, your eyes dazed, “If Charles does control me, then I should do something to get him back..” you turned to Oscar with a glare, he knew you well, you were thinking of ways to get back at Charles..for something he didn’t even do. “For being evil…”
Oscar laughed, shaking his head, “Charles isn't evil!” You joined him in the laughter. Before your face went blank, “What were we talking about?”
Oscar decided not to indulge in your evil sibling rivalry plans, “You were telling me how you wanted a boyfriend.”
You gaped, pointing at Oscar, “You're right! You know Oscar…you would be the perfect boyfriend!”
Oscar's cheeks went pink, “I would?” he mumbled bashfully.
You nodded proudly, “Mhm..you are very respectful..you've never stared at my ass, unlike some of the drivers..” Oscar’s mouth opened in shock with a million questions running through his mind, but you didn’t give him time to react, “And you're funny, not like joke funny,” Oscar tried to not let an offended expression take over his face, “But like expression funny. And I’m sure you’d give the best kisses…and! You look like you’d never forget an anniversary.”
Not to toot his own horn, but you're right, Oscar had a great memory, and if it was your anniversary, he would never forget it.
You’re face lights, “I have the best idea!” you squealed, standing up and pulling Oscar up with you, you both stumbled. You pulled on his jacket, bringing you face to face, “We should get married!”
The grin on Oscar’s face was electric, “Yes!” he shouted, accidentally waking up Yuki, who shot up from the cuddle pile on the ground with wide eyes, you two were too focused on your own bubble to notice him.
You gasped, gripping onto Oscar tighter, “Really? You’ll marry me?”
Oscar gripped onto your shoulders, shaking you back and forth tightly, “Of course I would! I’m not stupid!”
“Oh I have to tell Charles! He can’t miss my wedding!”
Oscar nodded, watching with a beaming smile as you pulled out your phone, opening it up before you slowly put it down with a frown.
“I can’t tell Charles.” your eyes unintentionally watered, “He won’t let me.” You slowly sat down on the small couch.
Oscar slowly sat next to you, trying to hide his dimmed energy, “Don’t worry about..” he mumbled, “I can wait.” I’ve already waited six years, he thought, what’s a couple more?
“But you shouldn’t have to wait!’ You groaned, quickly standing up, “We’re getting married tonight!” You stomped your foot, “I’ll just take lots of pictures so Charlie doesn’t miss it!”
Oscar’s light returned, he accepted the hand you held out for him, “Let’s go get married, Oscar!’ you cheered, leading him down the club stairs.
Yucki watched you two leave, his face full of confusion, he groaned, laying back onto the ground while rubbing his eyes, “Married? Charles is going to kill him.”
☾
“I still can’t believe you let the little princess go out without you,” Pierre mumbled through his bites of popcorn.
Charles rolled his eyes, grabbing another handful of the cornels, “She doesn’t have to be with me all the time, she’s growing up and wants to go out alone.”
“Okay…but with Lando?”
“Lando wouldn’t dare touch her. He knows I would throw him into the barriers.”
Pierre and Charles were lying in bed, a popcorn bucket lay in the middle of them, while a french romance movie played in the background.
Pierre nodded after a pause “You know who I’m worried about?”
Charles leaned over to look at the man, “Who?”
“That Australian creep.”
Charles furrowed his brow,”...Daniel?’
Pierre shot him a look, “No, not Daniel. Oscar.”
Charles shot up with a choked laugh, “O-oscar?” he threw his head back with a loud laugh, “O-oscar?”
Pierre watched him with an unamused face, waiting for him to sober, which took longer than you would think.
“Oscar?” Charles shook his head with a smile as he laid back down, “No..Oscar…” he giggled, “No.”
Pierre scoffed, “You underestimate him..I’ve seen it,” Pierre’s eyes unfocused, “He is always staring.”
Charles shrugged, throwing up a kurnell before catching it in his mouth, “Piccina is pretty…people always stare.”
Pierra shook his head sharply, “No…Oscar stares like he is trying to read her mind or something.. I’m telling you Charles, he is creepy.”
Charles waved him off, “Trust me. Oscar is the last person who would do something to piccina.”
☾
“I still think this is a bad idea..” Lando slurred as he took off his shirt lazily.
Max nodded in agreement, pulling up his suit pants, “Mhmm..” his head rolled back as he giggled, “Charles is going to blow up,” he made a boom sound.
“At least Oscar finally grew his balls and asked her out...” Lando giggled, looking over to where you and Oscar stood near the chapel. Oscar was adjusting your veil while you played with his tie.
“Does it count if they're both drunk?” Max asked.
Lando thought for a moment, “Maybe..”
After dragging Oscar down to the dance floor, you two found Max and Lando, who you both let know of your plans to get married. You only needed one of them (to be a witness) so you could legally get married. But they both insisted on joining you.
You and Oscar were going all out (as out as you could be with a notice of maybe forty minutes) and that included a dress, veil, and suits for Oscar and the groomsmen (Max and Lando)
“You look gorgeous..” Oscar sighed, gazing down into your eyes.
“You look good too,” You giggled, tightening and untightening his tie. Maybe it was the nerves of doing something so taboo, but you needed something to fidget with.
“Are you sure about this?” Oscar asked, looking behind as the Elvis priest started to set up his whole thing.
“Yeah..” you sighed. In another situation you would’ve never even brought up the conversation of you being lonely, much less getting married in a Vegas chapel, but you were completely out of it, and to be fair, so was Oscar, Max, and Lando.
Speaking of which, the two groomsmen made their way over to you, and patted Oscar on the shoulder, “It’s time.” Lando sang slightly, pushing Oscar to stand on the side of the Elvis priest. Lando followed after him.
Max grinned down at you, giving you, “You ready?” he giggled.
You beamed, wrapping your arm around him as ‘here comes the bride’ started playing softly.”Sure am!”
☾
There was something so scary about waking up in a room you didn't recognize.
The light was blinding, and it just made your hangover headache ten times worse. You groaned, squinting as you slowly sat up from the unrecognizable bed.
Panicked, you looked around the room–it was trashed, with bottles of wine, and bed sheets scattered everywhere. In terror you looked down at yourself, letting out a sigh of relief at the sight of your clothes still on your body. It was not your clothes, fitting at least five times too big, but still, you took that as a good sign.
Slowly you inched off the bed, and there you noticed there was someone else in the bed, face down, with his arms sprawled out. It was a man. You panicked for a moment, he couldn't be dead, could he?
Carefully, you walked around the bed and squatted to take a look at who it was, the sight made your stomach churn, "Oscar?" you whispered to yourself.
What were you doing in Oscar Piastri's room of all places?
Omg, had he kidnapped you? You laughed to yourself. No, it was more likely that you kidnapped him.
Shaking your head, you decided to leave, the horror it would be if anyone caught you leaving Oscar’s room, the media would go crazy, you’d have to figure this all out later. You stared at him for a small second before making your way to the room, accidentally crushing a piece of paper that lay on the ground.
You winced, turning to make sure the sound did not wake Oscar up, it didn't. With a sigh of relief, you tiptoed out of the room, missing the wedding dress that was neatly hung on the door.
As you stumbled through the hotel hallway, you felt all kinds of dirty. Yes, you still had clothes on, but that did not necessarily mean you two didn't do anything. Yikes. You just prayed that Charles hadn't heard anything about this.
It was in this moment that you thanked Carlos Sainz, their small fight was the reason Charles didn’t go out. It was more than likely he didnt see anything.
Taking your hotel room key out of your bra (safe keeping), you turned the corner of the hotel, gasping in horror at who you saw pacing up and down your room door. Your brother, Charles.
His head snapped up at the sound of the gasp, his eyes red and swollen. He did not waste any time running over to you, his pupils were wild as he scanned you up and down multiple times, he was rambling in French, making your head spin by the sheer volume of his voice.
You shushed him, squinting, "Charles.. calm down please."
He pulled you in a tight hug, "Calm down? How can I calm down! You disappeared and didn’t answer your phone, and I have to find out through Instagram that you got married!" Pause.
You pulled back from the hug, feeling the room spin, "What?" you whispered, although he didnt seem to hear you.
"And listen mon cœur, if you love him then it's okay. We're not mad—just, why didn't you tell us?" He looked down at you with a frown.
You shook your head violently, holding up a finger,
"No no, Charles, what are you talking about?" His sadness quickly turned to confusion, "You got married?"
Your eyes went comically wide, "What!?" you yelled, not caring about your volume.
Charles took a step back, "You disappeared all night and Max posted to social media pictures of your wedding being married. You.. don't remember?"
"No Charles I don't fucking remember!" you shouted in horror, patting yourself down for your phone, just your luck, it wasn't on you.
"Oh my god.." you groaned, shutting your eyes."What's wrong? You don't remember getting married to your secret boyfriend?"
You looked up at your brother blankly, "Charles, I don't have a secret boyfriend."
Charles tilted his head, slowly speaking, "...Then who did you marry?"
You chose not to answer, letting him piece the puzzle together himself.
"You got married to a stranger? What is wrong with you?”
"I was drunk!" you threw your arms up in defense.
"Oh, you were drunk!" Charles asked ironically, "I get drunk all the time and I don't get married to random strangers!"
"You act like I wanted this to happen!" You two bickered, not noticing the awkward Australian slowly making his way towards you two.
"Well, you don't seem as freaked out as you should be!" Charles shouted.
"I'm still processing this!" you whined, stomping your feet, just then you two heard a cough. You swiveled around only to come face to face with Oscar, his pale cheeks lit with fire, "Oscar," you smiled, nudging Charles.
Charles looked up at Oscar in confusion, giving him an unsure smile.
"Sorry to interrupt," Oscar rubbed the back of his neck, before presenting two items, your phone, and a piece of slightly crumbled paper,
You gasped, taking the phone with a smile, but before you could thank him, Charles spoke up,
"Why do you have her phone?" his voice was low, and no amusement was present.
You looked at Oscar with wide eyes, shaking your head slightly, Charles could not find out that you two had spent the night together, no way he would take that well.
With all the ruckus, you yourself hadn’t managed to piece the biggest puzzle together. Maybe if you were in a better headspace and realized that it was Oscar who you had drunkenly married, you would have stopped Oscar from even being near Charles.
Oscar swallowed thickly, blinking, before he could even mutter a word, the paper in his hands was ripped away. The panic was clear on his face, as he tried to reach for it, but to no avail.
You watched in confusion as Oscar clearly started to panic, you glanced back at your brother who was staring down at the piece of paper with never seen before anger.
"What is it?" you mumbled, looking down at his hands, it was a certificate, you slowly read it, dreadfulness morphing quickly.
This document certifies OSCAR JACK PIASTRI & Y/N LECLERC, were united in marriage in the LITTLE LAS VEGAS WEDDING CHAPEL.
Oh shit.
Charles glanced between you and Oscar, whose mouth was pressed tightly.
"You took advantage of my sister?" Charles whispered, and Oscar's eyes widened along with yours.
"No, Charles–" you tried, but Charles had already crumpled the marriage certificate and thrown it to the side.
"You took advantage of my sister?!" Charles yelled, and the next thing you knew, Charles was on top of Oscar, his fist landing on his beautiful face.

Lessons in Jealousy
Pairing: Max Verstappen x Reader
Summary: You’ve been in love with Lando as long as you can remember, but to him, you’re just his best friend. Enter Max your longtime frenemy who offers to help make Lando jealous. But as Lando finally starts to notice you, you wonder if you were chasing the wrong heart all along.
11.3k words / Poll Winner / Masterlist
Celebrations were in full swing tonight, laughter and clinking glasses filled the paddock lounge, and there was Lando in the middle of it all. He’d just finished another impressive race and with each victory the swarm of admirers seemed to grow. You’d spent years watching him like this, taking it all in from the sidelines. From kids at the karting track you’d been through nearly everything together. Yet somehow he never seemed to see you in the same way you saw him.
The thought stung. He saw you as his constant, his dependable best friend, and though your heart had tried, time and time again, to beat in time with his, it seemed that it may never be.
As you sat on the edge of the lounge sipping a drink, feeling like you’d blended into the wall, a familiar, annoyingly smug voice brought you back to reality. Max Verstappen leaned against the wall beside you, arms crossed, a small smirk playing on his lips as he nodded towards Lando.
“Never gets old huh?”
You’ve known Max almost as long as you’d known Lando, which is to say, too long. Your friendship with Lando was easy, uncomplicated, and comfortable from the start. Max though? That was different. With Max, it was like fire and ice.
You weren’t sure exactly when it started, but from the moment he entered your orbit, it was as if the universe had decided you two were destined to push each other’s buttons. If Lando was easy warmth, Max was the kind of heat that could burn. He had a knack for getting under your skin, for knowing exactly what to say to rile you up, to make you bite back with sharp words and narrowed eyes. And you weren’t innocent in it either, you knew what set him off, what made his jaw go tight, what made his hands flex against his thighs like he was physically restraining himself from responding.
You rolled your eyes, trying not to let him get under your skin. “You’re always so observant Max. Maybe try worrying about your own life?”
“Come on, it’s practically a free show,” he laughed, eyes not moving from Lando who was currently entertaining a particularly beautiful fan with one of his charming stories. You’d tried to accept his constant stream of dates, pretending that each one didn’t hurt a little more than the last, but the look in his eyes when he gazed at her… it stung.
“Surprised you have time to comment on my life Verstappen,” you shot back, not bothering to turn.
“It’s hard to miss. Every time I turn around there you are. Just trying to understand it.”
You glanced up at him. “Understand what?”
“Do you have a life outside of following him around?” he asked, raising an eyebrow
“Do you have a life outside of annoying me?” You fire back, hiding the warmth rising to your cheeks.
Every time you saw Max his quick wit and sometimes annoyingly perceptive comments rubbed you the wrong way. Lando would just laugh whenever you and Max got into your usual back-and-forth.
“You guys are worse than siblings,” he would tease.
Max seemed to enjoy poking at your devotion to Lando, teasing you about your years spent watching him with starry eyes, never once making a move. And yet, somehow, every taunt felt calculated, like he was trying to unravel something only he could see.
Max’s moved closer to you, his expression shifting into something almost thoughtful. “You know,” he said, his voice lowering, “I almost feel bad for you sometimes.”
“Excuse me?” Your eyebrows shot up. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Oh, you know exactly what I mean. I’ve watched you for years, following him around like he’s the last guy on earth.”
“Because he’s my best friend,” you retorted, feeling defensive. “Not that it’s any of your business.”
Max tilted his head, considering you. “Right. And that’s why you look at him like he hung the damn moon?”
“That’s not—” You opened your mouth to argue but snapped it shut. Arguing with Max was like arguing with a brick wall. He always had a way of pushing buttons you didn’t even know you had.
He shrugged. “Look, I just don’t get it. You’ve been waiting around for him forever. And for what?”
“Yeah, you’ve mentioned that already. What exactly are you getting at?”
His gaze flickered. “You need a new approach.”
You raised an eyebrow. “A new approach?”
Max nodded. “Simple psychology. Stop hanging around like his shadow. Make him notice you’re not always there.”
“So, your grand plan is to just play hard to get?”
“Not just play,” he corrected, a sly smile on his face. “Be hard to get. Lando’s used to always having you around, if you change that up it’ll get under his skin.”
The thought took you by surprise. You’d spent years at Lando’s side, always dependable, always there. The idea of pulling back felt...risky. But Max was right. It was a small risk compared to the years of waiting you’d already put in.
“I could help you, you know.” His voice was so casual that it took you a moment to process what he’d just offered. When you turned to him, he wore an expression of mild amusement. “Give him a little push. Maybe make him notice you for once.” His eyes glinted.
You stared at him, caught between skepticism and intrigue. “And what would you get out of it?”
Max crossed his arms, that signature confidence settling over him. “Maybe it’ll be fun,” he said with a wink, then shrugged. “Or maybe I just want to stop seeing you look miserable every race weekend.”
His expression was unreadable, but something about the way he was looking at you made your stomach twist.
What did you really have to lose?
You decided to give Max’s plan a try. Over the next few weeks you started making yourself less available. At first it felt unnatural, like you were playing a role in someone else’s life. Instead of rushing to Lando’s side after each race, instead of being the first person to celebrate his podiums or commiserate his losses you found other ways to spend your time. What you didn’t expect was how quickly your free time started being filled by Max.
He had a habit of appearing at the exact moment you might have otherwise gone to Lando, redirecting your focus with an effortless pull. If Lando was occupied, Max would materialise leaning against a wall, arms crossed, an eyebrow raised as if he’d been waiting for you to notice.
What was worse? You didn’t hate it.
You started seeking him out. Not consciously at first, but enough that he noticed.
“Still following orders?” he’d ask whenever you showed up in his garage, as though challenging you.
“Believe it or not I’m here by choice,” you’d reply, trying not to smile at his cocky grin.
That was the thing about Max he pushed, he prodded, he provoked. But for all his sharp edges, he had a way of making you think, of making you see things differently. You found yourself spending more time with Max in a way that bordered on ridiculous. You started joining him for lunch, sitting in on debriefs you had no real reason to be in, talking strategy like you actually belonged there.
And more and more, you started to notice things you hadn’t before.
The way Max listened, really listened, when you spoke. The way his brow furrowed when he disagreed, the way he challenged you, not to be difficult, but because he wanted to hear your reasoning, wanted to understand your perspective. Beneath the arrogance, beneath the ever-present smirk and the witty remarks, there was an intelligence and insightfulness you hadn’t fully appreciated before.
The longer you took to text Lando back, the more he started to notice. At first he joked about it, throwing an arm around your shoulders like he always did.
“You’re getting popular, huh? Who’s keeping you so busy?” he asked, a little laugh in his voice. But there was something else in his gaze confusion, maybe even curiosity.
You only smiled, shrugging it off, but you could feel the shift.
“Let me guess,” Max said as you both sat outside the team’s motorhome later that week, watching Lando down the pit-lane goof around with a few fans, occasionally glancing in your direction, “he asked you to meet up tonight, didn’t he?”
You sighed, folding your arms. “Yeah, he did.”
Max scoffed, shaking his head. “See? It’s already working. He’s starting to realise you’re not always there when he wants you.”
You let out a short laugh, though there was uncertainty beneath it. “I don’t think that’s true. He probably just—”
Max turned toward you then, his teasing fading into something more serious.
“You really don’t see it do you?” he said, almost as if he were realising something in real-time.
You frowned. “See what?”
“This.” He gestured vaguely at you, at the space between you, at whatever invisible shift had taken place in the past few weeks. “You’re different when you’re not waiting around for him.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Different how?”
Max leaned in slightly, voice lowering just enough to make you feel like he was letting you in on some kind of secret. “You’re not trying so hard to be the girl you think Lando wants. And, for what it’s worth I think this version of you…the real you, is a hell of a lot more interesting.”
The words settled in your chest, warm and unexpected, leaving you momentarily without a response.
Late one afternoon Max showed up at your hotel door twirling his car keys around his finger. “Come on,” he said, eyes gleaming with something that looked dangerously close to mischief.
You narrowed your eyes at him. “Come where?”
He leaned against the doorframe like he had all the time in the world. “I figured it was time to see if you’re actually capable of driving or just a glorified spectator.”
Your brows shot up. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me,” he said, grinning now. “Let’s go.”
Naturally, you took that as a challenge.
The two of you spent hours racing each other, bumping karts, stealing inside lines, and throwing accusations of dirty tactics back and forth. Sure, it was fast, intense, competitive but there was so much laughter, a kind of easy camaraderie that felt strangely liberating.
You had just pulled off your helmet, hair a mess and adrenaline still buzzing through your veins, when you spotted Max watching you with a small, unguarded smile
“You’re actually pretty good out there,” Max admitted, his voice amused.
You raised an eyebrow, smirking as you took a sip of water. “High praise from the world champion. Should I be flattered?”
He chuckled, shaking his head. “You’ve got guts.”
You scoffed, leaning against the railing beside him. “Only because it’s you. It’s survival instincts Verstappen.”
Max turned slightly, his arm brushing yours as he studied you. “Oh, so now you’re saying I make you better? That’s interesting.”
You rolled your eyes. “That’s not what I said.”
“Mm.” He tilted his head, mock thoughtful. “Sounds a lot like what you said.”
You huffed, nudging him with your elbow. “Fine. If it makes you feel better you make me drive more aggressively.”
His grin widened. “See? You do get better when I’m around.”
You let out a laugh, shaking your head. “No I just want to beat you.”
Max bumped his shoulder against yours, casual, easy. “Same thing.”
You shook your head, unable to fight the grin pulling at your lips.
“Seriously,” he said, his voice softer now, “I think you’re tougher than you give yourself credit for. Definitely tougher than most people realise.”
Something about the way he said it made you pause, the words striking somewhere deeper than you expected.
Things slowly started to shift between you and Max. Little moments that should have been insignificant but somehow weren’t.
Like the way Max always seemed to find you in a crowded room, even when you weren’t looking for him. How he started waiting not in an obvious, deliberate way, but just enough for you to notice. Just enough that you felt it.
Or the way he’d pass you a drink at an event before you could even ask for one, like he already knew what you needed. The way he’d brush his knee against yours under the table at dinners, wordlessly checking in. The way he always had a sarcastic remark at the ready, but if anyone else gave you a hard time, he was the first to shut it down.
And then there were the more obvious moments.
Like how somewhere along the way, you had just become part of his post-race routine, not just because you were waiting for him, but because he was waiting for you too. Whether it was dinner, drinks, or decompressing in a hotel room after a long day. You just ended up there like you belonged, the same way he always ended up beside you.
Or the time he offered you a seat on his plane without a second thought, the invitation so casual it almost felt meaningless. You don’t need to fly commercial just come with me. As if it was the easiest thing in the world, like it was obvious you’d say yes. And when you did, the entire flight passed in quiet conversation and comfortable silence, his jacket draped over you when you fell asleep somewhere over the Atlantic, something you only noticed when you woke up, groggy and warm, finding Max pretending as if he hadn’t been watching you.
It wasn’t the same as following Lando around, lingering in the spaces he occupied, hoping he’d finally see you. With Max, you weren’t just there, you were wanted.
At some point, the teasing had shifted, too. It was still there, sharp as ever, but there was something gentler beneath it. A knowing look. A lingering glance. The more time you spent together, the harder it was becoming to deny.
As the paddock wound down one evening and the last traces of daylight faded into the horizon, you stepped out to find Max waiting for you. He was leaning against his car, arms crossed over his chest, that ever-present smirk playing at his lips.
You slowed your steps, eyeing him warily. “What?”
Max smirked, tilting his head slightly. “I just wanted to see you. Is that so bad?”
Your heart stuttered for a fraction and you couldn’t stop the smile that spread across your face. “Depends on the reason.”
He just grinned, rolling his eyes. “Get in the car. I have a spot I want to show you.”
You didn’t question it. That was the strange thing about Max, you never quite knew what he was up to, but somehow, it always felt like it made sense in the moment. So, you got in.
The city lights faded behind you as Max drove further out, leaving the familiar chaos of the paddock behind. The silence between you wasn’t uncomfortable if anything, it felt easy, like neither of you needed to fill it just for the sake of it, he just drove. One hand on the wheel, the other resting loosely on the gearshift, his posture relaxed but focused.
You leaned your head against the window, watching the world blur past. “So, am I going to get an explanation at some point, or are we just driving until we run out of gas?”
Max huffed a laugh, his fingers tapping against the steering wheel. “Patience, princess.”
You rolled your eyes at the nickname, but the blush rising to your cheeks threatened to betray you.
Eventually, he pulled off onto a secluded hilltop, a place that overlooked the distant glow of the city below. The sky stretched wide above you, stars blinking against the dark canvas of night.
“Didn’t peg you as the type to stargaze,” you murmured as you stepped out of the car, glancing at Max as his gaze lifted to the sky.
He smirked, his eyes reflecting the faint glow of the stars above. “I’m full of surprises.”
You let out a small laugh, shaking your head. “That’s one way to put it.”
He tilted his head slightly, studying you. “And what’s the other way?”
You pretended to think, tapping your chin. “A walking contradiction. Impossible. Infuriating.”
Max chuckled as he looked back up at the sky. “You forgot irresistible.”
You let out a scoff. “Oh, right. How could I forget that?”
You sat beside him, close enough to feel his warmth in the crisp night air, but not close enough to touch. As your conversation continued late into the night, you started to realise there was a lot more to Max than you had ever really understood.
He was talking about his early days on the track, the relentless pressure, the suffocating expectations, the way the sport had consumed him before he was even old enough to fully understand what it meant. And with that came the isolation of a life that revolved around racing before he had the chance to figure out who he was outside of it.
“You don’t exactly seem like someone who needs…anyone,” you said, your curiosity genuine.
Max gave a small shrug, his gaze flickering toward the horizon. “You get used to being alone in this world. Everyone wants something from you, so you learn to keep people at a distance.”
His honesty caught you off guard, the vulnerability in his words settling in a way you hadn’t expected. “Then why are you helping me?”
He let out a short laugh, but his gaze held yours. “Maybe because I understand what you’re going through. More than you know.”
The words hung between you, heavy with meaning.
You weren’t sure what to say. This was new territory, uncharted, and unfamiliar.
Several weeks later you were all out at a club, the night was loud, the place packed with bodies. The bass thrummed through your chest, neon lights casting shadows over familiar faces as you navigated through the crowd. Lando was here, you’d spotted him earlier laughing with a group of people you barely recognised caught up in his own world.
You had found him, weaving through the crowd, your hand grazing his arm as you leaned in close, your voice barely cutting through the music. But the moment lasted no more than a few seconds before he brushed you off, distracted, his attention elsewhere. A joke thrown over his shoulder, an easy grin at someone else, and suddenly you weren’t even there.
Maybe it was the drinks, or the music, or the fact that he had no idea how much this all meant to you, but for the first time, it felt different. Like a crack forming in something you’d always assumed was solid.
So you had stepped away, retreating to the edges of the club, frustration twisting in your chest as you rested against the cool wall. Your shoulders slumped, exhaustion creeping in not just from the night, but from all of it. The waiting, the hoping, the years of being right there only to be left standing in the background.
That was how Max found you.
“Still hoping for a miracle?” His voice cut through the music, and when you turned your head, he was beside you, leaning casually against the wall like he hadn’t just read your mind.
You sighed, tilting your head back. “I don’t know anymore.”
For once, Max didn’t smirk, didn’t tease. When you glanced at him, his expression was softer, the usual sharpness in his eyes replaced with something closer to concern.
“You don’t have to wait for him you know,” he said simply.
You exhaled, turning to face him fully. “And what else am I supposed to do?”
He shrugged, but his gaze didn’t waver. “Maybe you’re too close to see it, but you’re worth a lot more than being someone’s second choice.”
Max’s words his unwavering certainty planted a thought in your mind that you weren’t ready to face. “I know you’re trying to help,” you admitted, your voice quieter now, “but it’s complicated. I’ve been friends with Lando for so long it’s hard to just—”
“Walk away?” Max interrupted gently. “Sometimes that’s the best thing you can do for yourself.”
You opened your mouth to respond, but Max shook his head, as if letting you off the hook.
“Forget it,” he said, his tone lighter. “I know you’re not ready to give up on him.” And then he pushed off the wall and walked away, disappearing into the crowd before you could stop him.
But as you stood there, alone in the darkened corner of the club, Lando’s laughter echoing from somewhere across the room, you found yourself wondering if Max was right. And if he was…what the hell were you still waiting for?
One late night, you found yourself sitting with Max in the quiet hum of the Red Bull garage. His hands moved animatedly as he explained his thoughts on the upcoming strategy, eyes sharp with focus, completely absorbed in his own thoughts. He spoke fast, precise, running through every possibility, every variable, like his mind was operating on a level most people couldn’t even grasp.
It was mesmerising to watch.
“You’re staring,” he noted, barely looking up from the data, but the smirk in his voice was unmistakable.
You blinked, caught off guard, heat creeping up your neck. “Am I?” you deflected, tilting your head. “Maybe I’m just realising you might actually know what you’re talking about.”
Max let out a short chuckle, leaning back in his chair, arms crossing over his chest as he studied you with an infuriating level of amusement. “Careful,” he mused, his eyes glinting. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were impressed.”
You scoffed, shaking your head. “Let’s not get carried away.”
His smirk widened, his voice dropping slightly as he leaned in. “Too late. I’m taking it as a compliment.”
You rolled your eyes, but the small smile you couldn’t quite hide gave you away. “Fine. I guess you’re a lot better at this than I may have originally gave you credit for.”
Max raised an eyebrow, his smirk deepening. “That almost sounded genuine. Say it again, I just wanna make sure I heard you right.”
You nudged his arm, laughing despite yourself. “Don’t push your luck Verstappen.”
Max just grinned, and he looked at you then like he knew something you didn’t, but before you could respond your phone buzzed on the table between you. You didn’t even have to check the screen to know who it was.
Lando.
You picked it up, your stomach tightening as you read the message. A simple, casual miss you.
Two words that once would have sent your heart racing now felt hollow. Forced. Like an afterthought rather than something real. Your fingers hovered over the screen before you exhaled quietly and set your phone back down without replying.
“What did he say?” Max asked, his tone unreadable.
“Nothing important,” you murmured, brushing your thumb over the edge of the table.
Max didn’t press, but the atmosphere felt heavier, like there was something you’d both acknowledged without needing to say it aloud.
Then, with a smirk that didn’t quite reach his eyes, Max stood, stretching his arms over his head. “Come on, it’s late let’s get out of here.”
You nodded, standing as well, but before you could say anything, he glanced at you, something unreadable across his face. “Goodnight princess,” he added as you headed your own way, his tone light, teasing like nothing about this night had affected him at all.
But when you looked at him, really looked at him, you saw it. The shift in his expression. The way his smirk faltered for just a second, like there was something else he wanted to say but wouldn’t.
Days later you were standing beside Max the night air was warm, thick with the lingering heat of the day. It could’ve been anywhere, a quiet corner of the paddock, or a rooftop overlooking the city, it didn’t matter. What mattered was the way Max wouldn’t look at you.
He had been quiet all day. His jaw was tight, his fingers tracing the edge of the bottle in his hand, his eyes fixed on the ground like he was thinking about something he didn’t want to say out loud.
You exhaled, shifting beside him. “You’re acting weird.”
Max scoffed lightly, shaking his head. “I’m not.”
You arched an eyebrow. “You are. You’re never quiet this long unless you’re planning something dangerous.”
At that, he let out a breath of laughter, but it faded quickly.
“I don’t get it,” he said suddenly, watching you over his drink.
You frowned. “Get what?”
His jaw clenched slightly before he spoke, his voice quieter now, more measured. “How can he not see it?”
A strange sort of unease curled in your chest. “See what?”
“You.” His voice was steady, intent. “You’re always there, supporting him, understanding him…I don’t understand how he doesn’t see how incredible you are.”
Your breath caught, heat rushing to your face at the sheer honesty in his tone. Max didn’t say things he didn’t mean. He didn’t hand out compliments just for the sake of it.
“Max…”
He shook his head, setting his drink down on the ledge beside him. “He’s blind, or maybe just afraid. But you deserve more than this.” His lips pressed together for a second, like he was trying to keep his emotions in check. “You deserve someone who doesn’t take you for granted.”
You swallowed, a mix of emotions swirling inside you. “It’s not as bad as you make it sound,” you admitted, your voice softer now. “I know he cares about me, maybe not in the way I’ve always wanted him to but…” You hesitated, trying to find the right words. “When things got hard, when I needed someone, he’s never turned his back on me.” A small, almost sad smile crossed your lips. “We’ve been through so much together. He knows me better than most people do.”
Max’s expression was lost, but he didn’t interrupt.
“It’s just sometimes, it’s hard,” you admitted finally, your voice carrying the weight of years of unspoken doubts. “Because I know he cares really, in his own way, but I don’t know if it’ll ever be enough.” You shook your head, exhaling slowly. “Not in the way I want it to be.”
Max’s gaze softened slightly, the edge of his earlier frustration fading just a little. “You can’t keep waiting for him to notice,” he murmured finally, breaking the quiet. His voice was steady, but there was something else there too.
You shifted beside him, wrapping your arms around yourself. “I’m not waiting—”
Max cut you a look.
You sighed, looking down at your hands. “Okay. Maybe I am.”
Max exhaled, running a hand through his hair, glancing out into the night. For a moment, you thought that was the end of it that he would just drop it like he always did when you didn’t want to listen. But then, just as you were about to change the subject, he spoke again.
“I just don’t get why it has to be him.”
Your head snapped up, eyes locking onto his. “What?”
Max’s jaw tightened, like he regretted saying it out loud. But he didn’t backtrack. He never did. Instead, he exhaled sharply. “You act like he’s the only person in the world who could ever make you happy.”
Your stomach twisted. “That’s not—”
“Isn’t it?” His voice was level, but there was an edge to it, something restrained. He ran a hand over his jaw, looking away for a second before turning back to you. “I’ve seen you wait for him. Years. And I keep wondering…”
A lump formed in your throat. “Wondering what?”
Max swallowed, his hands flexing at his sides like he wanted to shove them in his pockets or maybe run them through his hair again, anything to distract himself. But he didn’t. He just looked at you.
“Wondering when you’re gonna realise you don’t have to.”
The words hit you like a punch to the stomach.
You opened your mouth, but nothing came out.
Because what the hell were you supposed to say to that?
He leaned back against the ledge, tilting his head slightly. “For what it’s worth,” he said, his voice softer now, no teasing, just quiet sincerity. “I just want you to be happy. That’s all.”
You exhaled, looking down at your hands, the weight of everything settling deep in your chest. “Me too.”
Max nudged your knee with his, a small attempt to lighten the moment. “You’ll figure it out.”
You glanced at him, searching his expression, and found nothing but warmth in his gaze. “Yeah?”
He nodded, a knowing smile tugging at his lips. “Yeah. You always figure things out when it matters.”
You huffed a small laugh and just like that, the tension lifted, fading into the night. Maybe nothing had changed. Maybe everything had. And for the first time, you weren’t sure if you were waiting for Lando at all. Or if you were just afraid of what would happen if you finally stopped.
Lando’s behaviour changed even more in the following weeks as he felt your absence grow.
The late replies that once went unnoticed were now met with double texts. The easy, casual invites had turned into persistent attempts to recreate days together “just like old times.” He was calling more, messaging at odd hours, throwing your name into conversations like a tether, as if trying to remind you of your place in his world.
It should have felt like everything you had ever wanted. The attention, the shift, the proof that maybe this had been the answer all along. And yet, somehow, the thrill of getting Lando’s attention wasn’t as satisfying as you’d imagined.
And then, one night, everything changed.
It wasn’t a grand gesture, no dramatic moment of realisation. It was just Lando, the two of you standing together slightly separated from the crowd. You had noticed it the way his eyes lingered, the way his laughter softened when it was just the two of you, like he was seeing something new.
And then, just like that, he finally said it.
“You’re one of the most important people in my life,” he admitted. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Let me take you out,” he said suddenly, almost like he was realising it in real time. “Just us. Properly.”
Your heart pounded as you stared at him.
This was it.
Lando, finally seeing you. Finally wanting you.
For months, years really, you had waited for this. Dreamed of it even.
And when the moment finally arrived, you said yes.
A real dinner, just the two of you. No last-minute paddock meet-ups, no half-hearted invitations tacked onto group outings. A proper date. The kind you had imagined more times than you could count. And yet, as you sat across from Lando at a sleek, candlelit table, dressed in the outfit you’d spent way too long picking out, the excitement you had expected wasn’t there.
Instead, a strange mix of anticipation and dread settled in your chest.
You tried to ignore it.
Lando was smiling at you, talking animatedly about something, golf, or maybe a new sim rig setup, but you found your mind drifting. The restaurant was perfect, the kind of place you used to imagine him taking you to.
But something about the moment still felt…off.
You forced yourself to focus.
Lando leaned back in his chair, exhaling as he ran a hand through his hair, his fingers raking through the curls like he was trying to ease some unseen tension. “Everything is just so busy at the moment,” he admitted, shaking his head slightly. “Sponsor stuff, sim training, and, you know, the actual racing.” He let out a small laugh. “Barely any time to breathe.”
He smiled then, but there was something searching in his gaze. His fingers tapped lightly against the stem of his glass before he lifted it, taking a slow sip. “But I guess you’ve been busy too.”
You blinked at him. “What do you mean?”
Lando tilted his head slightly, the candlelight flickering in his eyes as he studied you. “I don’t know,” he said, voice lighter than his expression. “It just feels like I don’t see you as much anymore. Not like we used to.”
The words settled between you, and suddenly, the air felt heavier.
You hesitated, fingers curling around the stem of your wine glass, rolling it between your fingertips as if that would steady you. “Yeah…I guess things have just been different lately.”
Lando nodded slowly, but his gaze didn’t leave yours. “Different how?”
“I don’t know,” you said carefully. “I guess I’ve just been… busy.”
Lando hummed, unconvinced. “Busy with Max?”
You inhaled sharply, the directness of his words catching you off guard. He wasn’t teasing, wasn’t smirking. He was asking.
You placed your glass down, exhaling. “We’ve been spending more time together, yeah.”
“I figured,” he said finally, his voice even. “You two have been… close lately.”
You swallowed, feeling a strange mix of guilt and something else, something you weren’t ready to name. “It’s not like that,” you said quickly, but even as the words left your mouth, you weren’t sure they were true.
Lando studied you for another second, then sighed, shaking his head with a small smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “I’m not mad, you know,” he said, softer now. “I just… I guess I didn’t realise how much things had changed.”
Your chest tightened, but you didn’t know what to say. Because neither had you.
Lando nodded, then he leaned forward resting his elbows on the table, his voice dropping slightly. “Did I do something wrong?”
You swallowed, caught off guard. “No. Of course not.”
And it was true, wasn’t it? Lando hadn’t done anything wrong. Not really.
But even as the words left your mouth, doubt crept in.
Lando smiled then, that boyish grin that had always made your heart stutter in the past, the one that made it so easy to believe that maybe this could be something real. Something right.
“I’m glad,” he said, his voice lighter now, more assured. “Because I’ve missed you. And I’m really glad we’re finally doing this.”
You smiled, sipping your wine. “Yeah, it’s nice. Kind of reminds me of when things were simpler.”
The conversation flowed easier after that, the awkwardness from earlier slipping away, replaced by something familiar. Comfortable. For the first time that night, it felt like just you and Lando again. No second-guessing, no pressure, but deep down you knew there was still that lingering uncertainty in the back of your mind.
The next evening you found Max leaning against the hotel’s outdoor railing, looking out over the city lights. He glanced up as you approached, and you saw it the tightness in his jaw, the way his fingers curled slightly against the metal railing.
“You okay?” you asked, coming to stand beside him.
Max let out a slow breath. “Long day.”
You hesitated before speaking. “I went out with Lando last night.”
His jaw tensed. “I know.”
You studied him for a moment, the way his expression gave nothing away, the way his shoulders seemed just a little more rigid than usual. “Going out with him again tonight?” His voice was calm.
You frowned, something about the way he asked making your stomach twist. “Yes. I thought that’s what you wanted. Isn’t this your plan?”
Max finally turned to you then, he exhaled through his nose, a humourless chuckle escaping before he shook his head. “Yeah,” he said, voice quieter now. “It was.”
“Max…”
He looked away, his fingers gripping the railing a little tighter. “Maybe it wasn’t the best idea after all.”
You blinked, taken aback by the shift in his voice, the weight behind the words. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Max let out a slow breath, shaking his head slightly, like he was frustrated, like he was frustrated with himself more than anything else. “Forget it,” he muttered, pushing off the railing.
“No,” you countered quickly, “tell me.”
He hesitated, his gaze searching yours, but whatever he was looking for he must not have found it, because instead of answering he took a step back. “Trust me, it doesn’t matter,” he sighed, turning towards the door.
You watched him go, frustration rising in your chest. “It does matter Max,” you called after him, but he didn’t stop, didn’t turn back.
His words hung in the air between you as he walked back inside. It wasn’t like Max to admit something like that to let something slip in a way that made him sound uncertain. He was always so sure, so stubborn, so relentless in his convictions. But tonight? He had let you see it. For the first time, you weren’t sure who this plan had really been for.
His words lingered in your mind long after he’d said them.
Dinners with Lando should have felt like everything you’d been waiting for. The perfect setting, the glow of candlelight, the easy rhythm of conversation. And yet, despite it all, the way he smiled at you from across the table, the familiarity that once felt effortless, something was missing.
It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t awkward. But it felt… off. Like a song played just slightly out of tune. Like you were reaching for something that wasn’t there anymore, grasping at the edges of a feeling that had already slipped through your fingers.
And worse, you couldn’t stop thinking about Max.
His easy smile, the way he always saw through you, the way he challenged you and pushed you in a way that never felt like a game. Just enough to make you feel. Just enough to make you realise that somehow he had carved out space in your life when you hadn’t even been looking. You weren’t sure when it had started, this creeping awareness, this feeling that had settled in the back of your mind, refusing to be ignored. But it was there now. Constant. Unshakable.
Sitting across from Lando you realised something that terrified you. You had outgrown the idea of him, outgrown the dream of what you thought this would be.
And yet, things didn’t get any better from there. If anything, they got worse.
Lando’s sudden attention and Max’s constant presence pulled you in opposite directions, leaving you stranded somewhere between what you had always wanted and what you had never expected to find. And then, one evening, everything came to a head.
It was after another race, the energy in the paddock still buzzing as people came and went, but you had stepped away from the noise, needing a moment to breathe when the familiar hum of certain voices caught your attention.
You hadn’t meant to eavesdrop.
But the second you recognised Max’s voice, low, tight, edged with frustration, you froze.
“You know, you’ve got a real gift for not seeing what’s right in front of you,” he said, his tone sharper than usual.
You frowned, your heart already racing as you stood up, moving closer to the edge of the doorway.
Lando’s reply was instant, defensive. “What’s your problem Max?”
Max let out a hollow laugh, sharp and humourless. “My problem?” he repeated, his voice dripping with frustration. “My problem is that you’ve had her in front of you for years, and you still can’t see her.”
Your breath caught, your body going rigid where you stood, hidden just out of sight.
There was a beat of silence, then Lando’s voice again, louder now. “What are you even talking about?”
Max scoffed, the sound filled with disbelief. “You know exactly what.” His voice was rising, the usual restraint gone. “She’s there, every race, every time you win, every time you screw up. Every time you need someone, she’s there.” His voice wavered for just a second before he pressed on, his words cutting through the air like a blade. “She’s the one who backs you up. Who understands you. Who makes excuses for you when you don’t even deserve them.”
Lando exhaled sharply, the sound more irritated than guilty. “Jesus Max you’re acting like I don’t care about her.”
Max let out a bitter laugh. “You don’t care about her. Not in the way you should.”
Lando’s voice sharpened. “And I suppose you do?”
Silence.
The kind of silence that wasn’t empty, but charged, pulsing between them like the prelude to a storm.
Your stomach twisted violently, your pulse hammering in your ears.
When Max spoke again, his voice was quieter, but no less intense. “She’s incredible Lando,” he said, his frustration bleeding into something raw, something real. “She’s smart, she’s funny, she’s… beautiful.” His voice cracked slightly, like saying the words out loud was taking something from him. “And you’re too blind to see it.”
Lando was quiet for a second. "You’re being dramatic.”
Max’s voice was flat. “Am I?”
“What’s your deal man? Since when do you care so much?” Lando prodded.
There it was.
The question you had never dared to ask yourself.
“Because I…” He stopped, inhaling sharply like the words had gotten stuck somewhere in his throat. But when he spoke again, they came out hoarse, unguarded in a way you had never heard from him before. “Because maybe she deserves someone who actually sees her.” His voice was thick with something fragile. “Someone who doesn’t just notice her when she’s not there.”
Max wasn’t just arguing anymore. He wasn’t just frustrated with Lando. He was hurt.
Lando shook his head, disbelieving. “That’s not fair.”
“Isn’t it?” Max shot back, stepping forward now, his voice taut. “How is it fair to her? How is it fair that she’s spent years—years Lando waiting for you to notice something you never have? And now you suddenly care? Now that she’s not standing around waiting for you to decide?”
Lando opened his mouth, but Max cut him off.
“No, you don’t get to act like you’re some innocent guy in all this,” he snapped, his voice sharper than you’d ever heard it. “You don’t get to pretend you’re confused when you’ve spent this whole time taking her for granted.”
Lando’s face twisted, frustration flashing in his eyes. “You don’t know what you’re talking about—”
Max took another step closer. “Then tell me I’m wrong,” he challenged, voice low, dangerous. “Look me in the eye and tell me that you’re not just doing this because she finally pulled away. Tell me that if she had never distanced herself, if she had never stopped running after you, if she never came to me, you still would’ve done something about it.”
Lando’s mouth opened slightly, like he wanted to argue, like he needed to argue.
But he didn’t.
Because he couldn’t.
The silence that followed was deafening.
Max exhaled sharply, shaking his head. His voice, when he spoke again, was quieter now, resigned. “If you really care about her…if you actually see her like you should have a long time ago then prove it. Otherwise…” He swallowed, his jaw tightening. “Otherwise, let her go.”
Your entire body had gone numb, frozen in place as the weight of his words crashed over you.
Lando didn’t answer and you couldn’t listen anymore.
You found Max outside the paddock, walking with quick, purposeful strides, his shoulders tense like he was trying to outrun what had just happened. His head was down, his fists clenched at his sides, his usual easy confidence stripped away.
You followed him before you could think better of it, your own heart hammering in your chest, your mind racing with everything you had just overheard.
“Max,” you called, your voice unsteady.
He didn’t stop.
“Max!” you yelled.
He stumbled back a step, his eyes widening when they met yours, realisation crashing over him in real time.
Shock. Guilt. Panic.
You saw it all flash across his face before he masked it, his expression shuttering, his jaw tightening as he instinctively tried to school himself into neutrality. But his fingers curled at his sides, his shoulders rising and falling with deep, unsteady breaths.
He knew.
He knew you had heard everything.
His mouth opened, like he was about to say something, an excuse, maybe, a brush-off, but you didn’t give him the chance.
“What was that?” you demanded, breathless, your pulse still racing.
Max hesitated, and for the first time since you’d known him he looked unsure. His entire frame stiffened, his lips parting before he pressed them into a thin line, calculating his next move weighing whether to tell the truth or run from it.
Finally, he let out a breath, voice rough when he spoke. “I would never take you for granted,” he said, voice thick with emotion. “I would never make you wonder where you stand. I would never make you feel like you weren’t enough.”
His eyes never left yours, as he continued. “If he can’t see what’s right in front of him, if he doesn’t wake up every damn day knowing how lucky he is just to exist in your orbit. If he can’t see you, if he can’t want you the way you deserve to be wanted, fully, completely, without hesitation..."
“Then maybe I can.” his next words coming out softer, but no less certain. “Because I already do.”
The world stilled.
Your breath caught, your body betraying you as warmth spread through your chest, through your limbs, through every single place Max Verstappen had ever touched in some way.
For weeks, months, you had been fighting it. Pretending it wasn’t there. Telling yourself that this was about Lando.
But standing here now, with Max looking at you like this, like you were something to be fought for you couldn’t lie to yourself anymore.
The days following Max’s confession were a blur of introspection and uncertainty. Lando reached out, texting, calling, sending you memes like nothing had changed, like he was trying to pull you back into the rhythm of what you’d always been.
But everything had changed.
Because every time your phone lit up with his name, your thoughts drifted to Max. The quiet strength of his presence, the way he had seen you, really seen you, long before you had even admitted it to yourself. Because for all the sniping and bickering, for all the fire and ice between you, Max had always been there. Not in the soft, obvious way Lando was, but in the way that mattered. He’d challenge you, push you, piss you off, but when it counted, when you really needed someone, Max showed up. No grand gestures, no sentimental speeches. Just him. Standing beside you like it was the most natural thing in the world.
And eventually, you knew what you had to do.
You needed to talk to Lando. Really talk.
You found him at the track, sitting in the back of McLaren’s garage, staring at his phone like it held answers he didn’t know how to ask for. He looked up when you approached, his expression flickering with something between relief and apprehension.
“Hey,” he said, shoving his phone into his pocket. “You finally decided to stop avoiding me?”
You sighed, sliding into the seat across from him. “I wasn’t avoiding you.”
Lando raised an eyebrow. “Oh so you just happened to stop texting back? And just happened to be everywhere except where I was?” His voice was teasing, but his expression betrayed him.
You exhaled, gripping the edge of the table as you tried to steady your emotions. “I needed space to figure things out.”
Lando’s smirk, the one he always used to defuse tension, flickered, then disappeared entirely.
“Lando,” you said cautiously, searching for the right words, unsure of how to say what needed to be said. “I care about you…I always will…but I also care about Max.”
His brows pulled together instantly. “What do you mean?” His voice wasn’t defensive, but it was careful, like he wasn’t sure he wanted to hear the answer.
You took a steadying breath, your pulse quickening. “I’ve spent a lot of time with him this year, and somewhere along the way something changed,” you admitted, the words feeling heavier as they left your lips. “I see us all so differently now. And it’s… complicated.”
Lando’s expression shifted, his jaw tensing slightly. He blinked a few times, like he was still trying to process what you were saying. “So… you’re saying you like him?”
You hesitated, but there was no point in denying it anymore. “Yeah,” you said softly, your heart pounding. “I think I do.”
Lando leaned back in his seat, dragging a hand down his face before exhaling slowly. His lips pressed together, his mind working through something you couldn’t quite place.
You could see it, the initial reaction he was fighting, the part of him that didn’t like it, the part that was still struggling with the idea of losing whatever the two of you had once been. For years, you had been his, his closest friend, his safe space, the person who had always been there, no matter what.
And now, you weren’t.
For a long moment he didn’t say anything. He just stared at the table, brows furrowed, jaw still clenched like he was trying to work out how he really felt about this.
“Lando?” you prompted hesitantly.
He let out a breath, shaking his head. “I mean… I guess I should’ve seen this coming, right?”
You frowned. “Lando—”
“No, I mean it,” he interrupted, sitting up straighter. “You and Max…I don’t know. It makes sense, I guess.”
You searched his face, trying to gauge how much of that was genuine. “You don’t have to pretend to be okay with it.”
Lando sighed, shaking his head. “I’m not pretending.” He paused, rubbing his palms over his thighs before looking back at you. “It’s just weird you know? I got so used to you being my person, even if I was too stupid to ever do anything about it.” His lips twitched into a small, almost bitter smile. “And now you’re…his?”
You swallowed, shifting slightly in your seat. “I don’t know what I am yet.”
He leaned forward, his elbows resting on the table. “You two have spent years arguing about everything. I always thought you hated each other half the time.”
You let out a short, almost incredulous laugh. “We do sometimes.” You shook your head, a small smile playing at your lips as memories flickered through your mind. “We push each other’s buttons, we argue, we drive each other insane. But somehow…it just makes sense now.”
Lando drummed his fingers on the table, nodding slowly as he processed your words. “So what you’re saying is you like the way he pushes your buttons?”
You rolled your eyes. “It’s not just that.”
He smirked slightly. “But it is a little bit that.”
You couldn’t help but laugh. “Maybe. But it’s also the fact that he sees me. He pushes me to be better. He doesn’t let me fade into the background or sit around waiting for someone to notice me.”
Lando let out a slow breath, nodding. “Yeah. That sounds like Max.”
You hesitated. “I know this isn’t what you wanted to hear.”
“It’s not. But that doesn’t mean I don’t get it.” He glanced away for a second before looking back at you, his gaze softer. “Does he make you happy?”
The question caught you off guard.
Did Max make you happy?
The thought of him alone sent warmth spreading through your chest, and you realised you were smiling before you even had the chance to answer.
“Yeah,” you admitted softly. “He does.”
Lando watched you for a long moment, then let out a short chuckle. “Then that’s it isn’t it?”
You frowned slightly. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, if he makes you happy, then you should go for it.”
You blinked. “Just like that?”
He gave you a small, almost exasperated smile. “No, not just like that. I don’t love it, okay? I don’t love the idea…” He ran a hand through his hair. “But I’ve known Max a long time. And yeah, he can piss me off…” A smirk ghosted over his lips before fading just as quickly. “But he’s a good guy. And if he’s the one who finally made you feel seen then I can’t be mad about that. And I know that if he cares about you the way I think he does, then he’s going to treat you right.”
You swallowed the lump in your throat, your chest tightening.
“This might not mean much, but…” he started, voice softer now. “I’m sorry.”
Your brows furrowed slightly. “For what?”
“For not being what you needed. For noticing you too late.” He swallowed, running a hand through his hair. “I don’t know if things would have been different if I had figured it out sooner, but you deserved better than waiting around for me to get my shit together.”
Your chest ached at his words, but there was no anger, no resentment just an understanding that you had both needed to reach.
“I do love you, you know,” Lando added. “Maybe not in the way you wanted. But you’ve always meant a lot to me.”
You reached across the table, squeezing his hand briefly before pulling away. “And you’ll always mean a lot to me too.”
Lando smiled then. “Just don’t let him gloat too much about this, alright?”
A laugh bubbled out of you, and for the first time in months, it didn’t feel weighed down by uncertainty.
Things between you and Lando weren’t perfect. Maybe they never would be again.
But as you sat there, sharing a smile that still felt familiar, you realised something important.
You hadn’t lost him.
And maybe you were finally allowing yourself to find something new.
You went to Max the next night, your heart pounding with every step, anticipation buzzing beneath your skin like electricity. No more waiting, no more pretending. Every nerve in your body was alight with the urgency of it, the sheer need to see him, to tell him.
The moment he opened the door you could tell something was wrong. He stood there, gripping the handle tightly, his posture tense, like he had been expecting bad news. His hair was slightly disheveled, he looked restless, unsettled, like he was carrying a weight he didn’t know how to put down.
You hesitated, swallowing hard. “Can I come in?”
Max stared at you for a second longer, as if debating whether letting you in would make this better or worse. But then, with a sigh, he stepped back, holding the door open.
You slipped inside, the air in the room heavy, thick with unspoken words. The faint scent of his cologne lingered in the space, and you noticed the half-empty water bottle on the bedside table, the hotel key tossed haphazardly on the desk. It looked like he had been pacing, maybe sitting at the edge of the bed, getting up, sitting back down, as if he hadn’t been able to sit still since the last time you saw him.
Max ran a hand over his face, exhaling slowly before turning back to you. “I get it,” he muttered before you could speak, voice gruff, like he had already convinced himself of the worst. “You don’t have to say anything.”
Your brows furrowed. “Max—”
“No, really.” He let out a breathless, almost bitter chuckle, shaking his head. “I already know how this goes. I saw you with him yesterday at the McLaren garage.” He forced a smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “You’re here to tell me that this was a mistake. That I got the wrong idea. That you’re choosing him.”
His words stung, not because they were true, but because he actually believed them.
Your throat tightened. “Max, that’s not—”
“If you’re happy, then I’m happy.” His voice was quieter now, you knew he was telling the truth, but still he was guarded, like he was preparing himself for impact. “That’s what matters.”
Something inside you cracked.
You stepped forward before you could second-guess yourself, reaching for his hand. He flinched slightly at the contact, his fingers twitching against yours, but he didn’t pull away.
“Did you mean what you said?” you asked, voice barely above a whisper.
Max’s brows knitted together, his body going still. “What?”
You swallowed hard, your thumb brushing over his knuckles. “About seeing me, wanting me?”
For a second you saw it that flicker of hesitation, the instinct to lie, to brush it off, to save himself from whatever heartbreak he thought was coming. His lips parted, as if he was about to say something dismissive, something easy.
But he couldn’t do it.
He couldn’t lie to you. Not about this. Not when it had been clawing at him for months, maybe years.
His mask slipped, the exhaustion, the frustration, the sheer weight of everything finally crashing down as he exhaled. His voice when he spoke was raw, unfiltered, like he had no choice but to lay himself bare.
“Every word,” he admitted, his gaze burning into yours. His fingers twitched against your hand, his grip tightening just slightly, as if he needed something to hold onto. “I meant every fucking word.”
You had spent so long waiting, waiting to be noticed, waiting to be chosen, waiting for something that was never going to happen. And all this time, Max had been there. Right in front of you. Seeing you in a way you had never even thought to ask for.
Relief flooded through you, mingling with something that had been building for so long, something inevitable.
Your breath came shakily, your fingers trembling slightly as the truth tumbled out before you could stop it. “I think…” You swallowed hard, meeting his gaze, the weight of the moment pressing down on you like gravity itself. “I think I’ve been waiting for the wrong person.”
His entire body reacted, like the words had physically hit him, like he had been bracing himself for heartbreak and suddenly, inexplicably, found himself with something else entirely.
Hope.
His eyes searched yours, desperate and overwhelmed. “I didn’t plan this,” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper, his hand hovering near your cheek fighting against every instinct telling him to touch you. “But…I can’t pretend it isn’t real.”
His words sent a shiver down your spine.
It was real. It had been real for so much longer than you had even realised.
You let out a breathless, almost disbelieving laugh. “Neither can I.”
“You mean that?” he asked.
“I mean it,” you whispered, leaning into his touch, feeling the warmth of his palm against your skin. “I see you now,” you breathed, voice steadier than you expected. “And I don’t want to wait anymore.”
Max’s lips parted slightly. “Fuck,” he breathed, his forehead pressing lightly against yours as his other hand settled on your waist, pulling you just a fraction closer. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to hear you say that.”
Your fingers curled against his chest, gripping the fabric of his hoodie like it was the only thing keeping you grounded. “Then why didn’t you say anything?”
Max let out a breathless chuckle, shaking his head against yours. “Because I’m a fucking idiot.”
You laughed, though it was shaky, uneven, because your heart was pounding so loudly in your chest that you were sure he could hear it.
Max’s hands flexed against you, like he was still struggling to believe this was happening. “I tried not to want this,” he admitted, his voice barely more than a whisper. “Tried to push it down, to ignore it, to pretend like it wasn’t tearing me apart every time I saw you waiting for him.” His grip on you tightened, his forehead pressing harder against yours, his breath warm against your lips. “But once there was even the slightest chance? Once I realised I wasn’t crazy, that maybe—maybe you could feel this too?” He exhaled sharply, shaking his head. “There was no turning back. I knew.”
“Knew what?”
“That I’d never want anyone else,” he admitted, his voice breaking slightly. “That it’s always been you.”
The words sent a shockwave through you, your entire body reacting before your mind could catch up. A soft breath escaped your lips as you surged forward, your hands gripping his hoodie, your mouth finding his in a kiss that was everything, all the months, years of unspoken feelings, of stolen glances, of tension neither of you had been willing to name.
Max groaned softly against your lips, his hands tightening on your waist as he pulled you against him like he needed you closer, like there was no air without you. He kissed you like he had been starving for this, like he had spent so long convincing himself he couldn’t have it that now, finally, he was never letting go.
You gasped against his mouth, and he smiled into the kiss, tilting his head slightly to deepen it, to savour it, to own it. His hands slid around your back, holding you flush against him, his heartbeat racing just as fast as yours.
When he finally pulled back, just enough to press his forehead to yours again, his breathing was uneven, his lips swollen from the force of it. His fingers trailed down your arms, finding your hands, lacing your fingers together, he let out a quiet laugh.
“What?” you asked, grinning as you fought to steady your breathing, still feeling the ghost of his lips against yours.
Max shook his head, brushing his nose against yours. “I just…I never thought I’d get this,” he admitted, his voice lighter now.
Your heart clenched at the honesty in his voice, the way he looked at you like you were something impossible that had somehow, miraculously, become real.
His voice was quieter when he spoke again. “I’ve felt like this for longer than you probably realise.”
“Oh Max…”
He shook his head. “No, I need to say this.” His hands squeezed at your waist, his touch grounding, reassuring. “I used to tell myself I was just looking out for you. That I was just annoyed whenever you talked about him because I didn’t care…but the truth is I was jealous. So fucking jealous.”
His confession sent warmth flooding through your chest, making your fingers tighten in his hands.
“I’d see you standing by him, always waiting, always looking at him like he was the only one for you, and I’d tell myself that it didn’t matter. That you deserved each other.” He swallowed hard, shaking his head. “But I could never really believe it.”
Your throat felt tight, your heart hammering against your ribs. “Max…”
“I spent so much time telling myself you’d never see me that way,” Max continued, his voice dropping even lower, more intimate. “That even if I wanted you, even if I needed you, it didn’t matter. Because he was always the one you wanted.”
Your breath caught, the truth of it settling deep inside you.
“But then…” He smiled, just barely, like he still couldn’t believe it. “You started choosing me. It wasn’t all at once. It was little things, sticking around in my garage longer than you needed to, texting me first, showing up even when you had no reason to.” His thumb brushed over your bottom lip, his gaze dipping down for a fraction of a second before meeting yours again. “And I realised I couldn’t just be your backup plan. I couldn’t just be the person keeping you distracted while you waited for him.”
You exhaled shakily, tilting your head just slightly into his touch. “Max…” You exhaled shakily, swallowing past the lump in your throat. “You were never just a distraction. You were never a backup plan. You—”
“I know,” he interrupted, smiling more now. “I know that now.”
His fingers brushed over your jaw, achingly gentle, his thumb traced along your cheek, making it impossible to look anywhere but at him.
“For so long, I told myself it wasn’t real. That it was just something in my head. Something I could turn off if I wanted to.”
You felt your chest tighten at the confession, at how much weight he had been carrying alone.
“But then you started pulling away from him,” Max continued, exhaling sharply, his voice almost breaking. “And I—” He shook his head, like the memory itself made him unravel. “I realised I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t pretend I didn’t want you.”
“When we first made that stupid plan I thought, this is my chance to help her. I thought, if I can just get her to stop waiting around for him, maybe she’ll be happy.” He swallowed hard, his eyes flickering between yours. “But I never planned for you. I didn’t think I’d be the one falling harder every second we were together.”
“You’re the one who sees me,” you finally said, your voice barely above a whisper. “Not just when it’s convenient, not just when I’m standing right in front of you, waiting. You see me, even when I don’t know what I want. You make me feel like I matter,” you continued, your fingers smoothing over the lines in his jaw. “Not just because I’m there, not because it’s easy, but because you choose to. Every time.”
A shaky exhale left his lips.
And you weren’t finished.
“You’ve never made me feel like I had to earn my place with you,” you whispered, your thumb brushing against his cheek. “I don’t have to be louder, or funnier, or wait for my turn. I don’t have to prove I belong with you. I just do. You are the person who makes me feel safe, who pushes me without ever making me doubt myself. You don’t just listen, you understand. You don’t just show up, you stay.”
“And it’s not just that,” you continued, voice steadier now. “It’s the way I see you too.”
“I don’t think you even realise it,” you murmured, shaking your head slightly. “How rare you are. How brilliant you are. How you notice things before anyone else does. How your mind works so fast it’s almost unfair.” You let out a small breath of laughter, your hand still cradling his jaw. “They don’t see how funny you are, how effortless it is for you to make people laugh, even when you’re not trying. How much you care even when you pretend not to.”
Before either of you could say anything else, he kissed you again, slow and deep and certain, like he was making up for all the time he had wasted. You sighed into it, your arms winding around his neck, your body pressing into his as his hands gripped your waist, anchoring you against him.
He kissed you like you were his like you had always been his.
“I hope you know,” he murmured against your temple, pressing a lingering kiss there, “that I’m never letting you go now.”
A wide grin broke across your face as you squeezed his hands in return. “Good,” you whispered. “Because I’m not going anywhere.”
Max let out a laugh, one full of relief, full of joy, full of you. He kissed you again, and again, and again, each one lighter, each one full of laughter, all full of something so impossibly right.

Pairing: Oscar Piastri x Felicity Leong-Piastri (Original Character)
Summary: The one where Oscar has been married since he was 18 years old and never bothered to tell most people.
Links:
In chronological order:
Cricket Whites
Oscar plays Cricket. Teenage Felicity is TOTALLY normal about it.
The Attic Room
Felicity and Oscar broke the same school rules every night for three years.
delulu girl autumn
Caitlin Pritchard thought she actually stood a chance with Oscar Piastri at Haileybury in 2018. Reader, she did not.

Didn't come up
5 times another driver/teammate of Oscar found out about Felicity or Bee.
The Alpine-McLaren Fiasco

Supernova
Oscar Piastri realises that his daughter is more similiar to his wife than he thought. Set in Summer 2023.
Building Blocks
How to parent a genius: A guide by Oscar Piastri.
Lavender House
Felicity Piastri was a genius, a mother, a wife, a homemaker, an interior designer, an engineer…not always in that order. Or: How Felicity made a House a Home.
The Mysterious Mrs Piastri
Oscar Piastri had always been a calm, collected kind of guy. Unshakeable, even.
Lando Norris, on the other hand? Not so much.
And today? Today was the day Lando fully lost it.
A McLaren Meltdown
Mclaren’s staff reactions to Oscar Piastri’s surprise marriage reveal.
She Wasn’t a Secret
When Oscar casually mentions his wife during a fan Q&A, Lando Norris combusts on stage, the internet loses its mind, Nicole Piastri wonders why her son can’t tell people basic facts about his life—like the fact he’s been married for five years and Mark Webber is quietly regretting his life choices.
Netflix Suffers
Netflix suffers through quietly private Oscar for 2 and a half whole seasons of Drive to Survive.
Wait, What?
Oscar Piastri managed to keep his wife a secret on accident for nearly half a decade…
Come to think off, that was not the only one he kept a secret.
Home Sweet Home
Oscar Piastri is just happy to be home with his girls. Lando Norris meets Felicity and Bee Piastri.
Bribery remains effective
Oscar Piastri thought doing kindergarten drop-off for his daughter would be easy — until Bee negotiates like a Formula 1 strategist and declares that the chickens at home are better friends than her classmates.
Garage Time
Felicity and Bee Piastri: Two Peas in a Pod
Oscar vs. Influencers
Oscar Piastri suffers through the Miami GP after the wife reveal.
Family Traditions
Lando finds out about a Piastri family tradition.
Mother Nature
Oscar wants some peace and quiet after the Miami GP.
Aquatic Adventures
Oscar is gone for a Double Header. Felicity builds a sanctuary.
A Secret Well Kept
McLaren finds out about the tiny genius Oscar has been keeping a secret.
Sick Day
When Bee wakes in the middle of the night with a fever, a simple stomach bug drags Oscar right back to the memories of the night he nearly lost both her and Felicity.
Built to Last
Oscar and Felicity have their own Wedding Anniversary Traditions.
Formidable
Andrea Stella figures out that Felicity Piastri is more than “just” Oscar’s wife.
Brilliant
Lando Norris figures out that Felicity is not the only genius in the family.
Override: Denied
Five times Bee’s intelligence left kindergarten teachers speechless—and one time they tried to go behind Felicity’s back, only to learn that Oscar Piastri is many things, but a husband who betrays his wife’s trust isn’t one of them.
Like Origami
Felicity folds their lives around Oscar’s.
In Denial
5 Times Lando Norris probably should have realised that his teammate had a child, but never did and 1 time Oscar Piastri made very clear that he is a father.
Her Papa’s Daughter
Oscar never sees how similar his daughter is to him. But Felicity does.
That Kind of Love
The most attractive thing about Oscar Piastri wasn’t his appearance. Or his mind, even though he was brilliant. It’s the way he loves his daughter.
Lessons in Math (and Humility)
Kimi Antonelli thought he could handle anything — race cars, pressure, a wet track…but his math homework may destroy him. Enter Bee Piastri.
Mr Oblivious
Oscar Piastri is absolutely oblivious to the fact that people try to flirt with him. It drives Lando nuts. Felicity finds it very amusing though.
Love Letter
Other people write love letters, Felicity Piastri re-engineers tire degradation.
The Brush Off
5 Times people flirt with Felicity and 1 time Oscar sees it happen.
Love in Bubblewrap
Felicity Piastri fixes things. Regardless of what they are. Even if they are her sister-in-law’s stolen K-Pop albums.
Bonus: The original version of The mysterious Mrs Piastri that started it all.

♣️ MASTERLIST
🍒 The ultimate guide to every F1 fic I’ve posted on my blog. You’ll find everything organized by driver, so you can easily find exactly what you’re in the mood for. The list will be updated regularly.

18+, explicit, and contains mature/sexual content, unless specified (please, always read the warnings);
“she/her reader”, because you guys won’t catch me dead using Y/N, it’s just not working for me, sorry :(
🍒 Music plays a huge role in my writing process. While it’s totally optional, I often include song recommendations for my stories to enhance your reading experience.
