FWS | Love
   He loved saying her name.
   “Touko.”
The young trainer looked to the side, brilliant blue eyes blinking at the tall man next to her. “What’s up?” A smile accompanied her question.
   He loved seeing her smile.
“Nothing,” was all he replied. Plopping a seat next to her on the sofa, N returned her smile with a sweet chuckle.
Mirth curled the corner of her mouth and raised her eyebrow. “You’re weird, you know that.” Giving him a gentle nudge with her left elbow, Touko diverted her attention back to her Pokédex.
N only watched, enjoying the peaceful moment he never thought he deserved.
Sitting cross-legged, he turned to face her. Cheeks blossoming at the sight of his beloved, N quietly toyed with the long locks of her brown hair. He gently twirled some strands, letting them brush between his fingers.
   Touko didn’t seem to mind.
He loved being able to touch her.
Words were void between them for a while, yet a conversation was happening through their actions. Enjoying the attention, Touko casually scooted closer to him until she rested her forearm onto his leg. The Pokédex was now held by her right hand, fingers scrolling through the screen as she checked on recent data.
He loved the little scrunch between her eyebrows when she was focusing.
Remembering something his guardians once taught him before, N brought his other hand up. Wordlessly, he started to bring more strands of her hair in his grasp. With newfound determination, he started to braid parts of the luscious brown locks.
Casting a peek, she realized what he was doing and bit back a wider smile.
She loved how much he doted on her.
Letting him be, Touko adjusted her seating position so that she was closer. Her legs were brought up, then folded comfortably to the right side. Her head tilted slightly in his direction, giving him access to her soft hair.
He loved how well she knew him.
A small laugh, soft and utterly infatuated, breezed through his sheepish smile. Slender fingers worked their magic, easily braiding her brown hair. Once he reached the tip, N brought the braid closer.
   Chup. A kiss was bestowed.
Upon hearing the sound, Touko turned her head to look at him—
Chup, only to receive another kiss, this time to her forehead.
The action clearly surprised her. Blue eyes widened. Soft cheeks reddened. “Geez, N…!” Flustered with giggles bubbling between her lips, Touko playfully smacked his leg with her left hand.
He loved gauging so many different reactions out of her.
Smile tickled along with more laughter; N gently brushed her unbraided hair to the back of her right ear. He watched as Touko tried to shake off her giddiness with a roll of her eyes. Jutting her tongue out at him, she placed the device on her right side and playfully poked his nose.
“You have my attention.” He always had. “What do you want to do today?” Legs still in a comfy, folded position, Touko leaned against her legs while looking up at him. Her smile curved cheekily, vainly hiding her embarrassment that was still blatantly splashed on her cheeks.
He loved how frustratingly cute she was.
“Hmm…” he pondered. Fingers still twirled her brown hair. While his expression seemed like he was in thought, in truth, he was just mesmerized by her presence.
How lucky he was. How blessed he was.
Once again, he brought her braid close to his lips. “Can we just…” A whisper. Affectionate delicate. “Stay like this for a while?”
He saw surprise flicker in her eyes. He held a breath to hear laughter bursting so brightly.
“Of course, N.” A white smile was shown, given to the young man who had stolen her heart. “But first,” She straightened up, surprising him, “turn to the side and put your legs down.” She watched in amusement as N did what he was told. Curious as he may be, it was both endearing and funny to see that he often didn’t question her decisions. Deciding that her left arm was numb, Touko carefully plopped down and rested the back of her head on his leg.
The action caught him off guard, green eyes blinking in brief stupor at the smiling woman under his gaze.
He then felt her hands on his warm cheeks.
   Ba-dump!
   “I love you, N!”
   Ba-dump, ba-dump!
Ah… How his heart screamed for her.
Heat rushed to the tips of his ears. Smile trembled. Laugh bubbled. Holding her hands that were still on his cheeks, N gave a gentle squeeze. “I love you too, Touko.”
   He truly did.
   He loved her.
He loved her so, so much.

Wishful Pining
Ever since she showed up, everything he’s done has gone completely wrong.  He thought he had everything figured out. He thought his life would turn for the better. From the moment he was adopted by Chairman Rose, Bede legitimately thought he had everything at the palm of his hand.  But no.  He was supposed to be unbeatable. He was supposed to be the next Champion of Galar. People would see him for who he shaped himself to be. People would be in awe, would be at his feet to gawk at the marvellous trainer who was gifted by the hands of the amazing chairman himself. He had everything planned out. His first Pokémon. His first battle. His first victory. Everything was coming to his favour.  He had everything, and he would gain everything more.  That is, until she came into his life.
She just had to ruin everything! That single thought haunted him day and night. Thanks to her, he was disowned by the very man who gave him food and shelter. Thanks to her, he was robbed of his very desire to become Galar’s only hope. Thanks to her, he was dragged by a strange old lady and was visibly forced to shape up into a gym leader against his will.  Well…technically the last part was only half the truth. In time, Bede actually enjoyed and appreciated all the lessons – gruelling as they may be – and this, in time, actually made him into a stronger trainer than he was before.  Hell, thanks to her, he is now one of the most powerful gym leaders in Galar.  Gah! He shakes his head, anger and annoyance bubbled uncomfortably in his stomach. Hands run through fluffy white hair. Teeth grind together, jaw tightening before he opts to take a deep breath. Warm air puffs out of pink lips. He needs to stop, he thinks to himself. It has been 3 years since that happened. Life moves on, and so have they.  He’s moved on. He is moving on.  There is absolutely no reason to lament on the past. Orphan that he is, Bede cannot deny the fact that Opal is family to him now. Despite the harsh trainings and quizzes and all that pink, she is a loving and kind-hearted woman. Everything she did made him into the excellent leader he is now. Groan and whine and growl as much as he wants, Bede will never forget the fact that Opal is the only who…adopted him when he thought he would be alone all over again.  The old lady still has some spunk in her, visiting him once in a while after taking a break from her little travels. She is an estranged woman, no doubt, but it did not take long for Bede to see Opal as the grandmother he never had.  Not that the young man chooses to admit that publically anytime soon.  Oh well, he is sure Opal knows how he feels.  He just wishes the ex-gym leader wouldn’t know much about his feelings for a certain someone.  A sigh slips off his lips.  His train of thought reaches a halt when he hears an eerie caw. Violet eyes look up, spotting a dot of deep black growing bigger and bigger until it forms a shape. Hands tucked inside the pockets of his pink jacket, he takes a few steps back to let the Corviknight land soundly.  Violet eyes never stray away from the young woman who hopped off the back of the Raven Pokémon.  “Thank you, Hilda.” A smile graces those pretty pink lips. Her voice is all he hears, and Bede rues at the fact that his heart starts to pound a few beats faster.  Apparently that wasn’t the worst of it; the second a pair of crimson meets violets, Bede can feel himself breathless.  Oh, he hates this.  “Sorry I’m late,” she apologizes. Her smile still remains present. Still remains beautiful on such a pretty face. “I had to fly back home because I needed to give my mom something. Hope I didn’t make you wait.” Her voice ever so soft, so serene, yet lulls such confidence that comes from such calm teenager.  Ooooh, he hates the beat of his heart.  “You’re irresponsible.” Why would he say that? “Making me wait when I have a lot of things to do.” He really didn’t have anything to do today—and he didn’t wait that long.  Arceus, her smile is a knife to his heart.  “Sorry,” is all she says. Returning the Corviknight back into her ball, Devina shrunk the Pokéball before clipping it to the right side of her belt. “If it makes you feel better, how about I treat you to some ice-cream?” Head tilts slightly to the right. Fingers lightly brush the bangs of deep dark hair. Patiently she awaits his answer, completely unaware that her actions alone cause a whirlpool of emotions in his heart.  “Do you really think free food will please me?” It does. “I’m not one of your rambunctious Pokémon.” He really likes ice-cream.  He wonders what it would be like to see a frown on her face.  “So, no ice-cream?” she ponders curiously.  He does not want to see it anytime soon.  His left eye twitches. “I accept the ice-cream.” He huffs once. Defeats slowly looms within him, but he would rather bite off his own tongue than admit it.  The second his gaze fixates on her again, Bede then holds back a groan to see that smile beam brighter. ---  He wonders how the hell he got roped into hanging out with her.  Was it 3 years ago? No, 2 years to be exact? They were both 15 and still trying to get used to living lives as strong, famous trainers. Devina all the more had to accommodate faster. Ever since she was crowned Champion, task after task came flooding down on her until she had no time for herself. After saving the world from the second coming of The Darkest Day and basically defeating the so-called Unbeatable Champion in a span of a week, the girl definitely had her hands full to the brim.  He couldn’t complain much, though. He was busy prepping himself to replace Opal as Ballonlea’s gym leader. He overthrew her easily (as how he would explain it) and since then, only a very, very handful of trainers were able to defeat him in the yearly Gym Challenge. He guessed he should take pride on that. Trainers were able to see that he was a force to be reckoned with before they could actually see the real force that is the woman sitting right beside him.  It all happened the year after they’ve met that she started to form a sort of friendship with him.  Well…'try' would have been a more appropriate term.  She was relentless. One would wonder how such a calm and collected person could be so assertive and persistent. He was perfectly fine with seeing her as his rival. Nothing more. Nothing less. She is the Galarian Champion. He is the most powerful gym leader in Galar.  But one day came, and so did she. The first morning, Bede took it as nothing more than the usual training routine he had with Opal and the other Fairy Pokémon. The second he opened the front door, however, he was laid stumped at the sight of a smiling trainer right in front of his doorstep.  “How are you?” He remembers the first words that came out of that pretty mouth of hers.  “I was wondering if you’re free today.” He remembers how baffled he was when she admitted that.  “In that case, how about a battle? If I lose, I’ll leave you be to your things. If I win, you have brunch with me.” He remembers rejecting her invitation, then being baffled again, then immediately accepting her challenge.  He lost, of course. And Bede still wonders if that was a good thing or a bad thing.  It became a habit as time went by. Monthly challenges became weekly. Weekly challenges became weekly hangouts. From sitting in a café in Ballonlea with such an awkward silence around them to going around other places with many topics to converse, Bede wouldn’t lie that he was still dumbfounded at the outcome that is their friendship.  Friendship…  Her laughter brings him back to reality. Focused gaze lures to her, then stays perfectly put at the gleam of her smile.  It is the damn mushrooms. It is definitely the damn mushrooms’ fault for putting light into her smile.  “It was the first time I’ve ever seen Hop run so fast.” Snickers tickle their way out of her mouth. “Turns out he can outrun a Charizard, and an angry one too.” Fingers brush her giggling lips. Both sit on a log inside Glimwood Tangle. Of all the places they could explore, Devina decided to chill inside the mystical forest. To her, the place was peaceful and mystifying. And given that it is going to be winter soon, she loves that the forest is not too hot nor too cold.  Bede didn’t complain when she suggested today’s venue. If anything, he doesn’t mind any venue at all if it means being close to her—wait.  Wait… Realization kicks him right in the head. He flinches on the log, then freeze on the spot. Immediately he shakes his head. The strands of long, white curly hair softly slaps his face, but the boy was too preoccupied in making sure he never finished that thought—  “Bede?”  Shit.  Violet eyes snap open, pupils enlarge slightly at the sight of his rival.  Curiosity turns into concern. “You okay there?” Voice ever soft, she scoots an inch closer.  He feels the air getting colder.  “I’m fine.” Sharply he retorts, only to silently regret his tone at the sight of Devina being surprised at his cold reaction. “I just—tired, is all.” Quick. His mind needs to be quick. “Trainers have been coming to the gym lately and trying to battle me as training sessions. They lost, of course. But the amount of trainers this week took quite a toll.” Keep talking. Just keep talking and ignore her mesmerizing eyes.  Maybe he needs to get up and move away from her as well.  But like hell, “It’s really annoying…” He wants nothing more than to close the distance between them. “They just…can’t give up and realize that they’re no match for me and my team.” Words are out of his mouth, but sight is hypnotized by the fiery glow of her iris.  Silence fills the air around them. Only the soothing sounds of Shiinotics and Spritzees can be heard nearby. Two teenagers do not a muscle. One looks at the other quite quizzically. One wishes his body can be swallowed by the earth below.  Pretty pink lips part, then gapes. “A-Anyways—!” he stutters. “Why are we here?” Quickly he changes the subject. Quickly he breaks his gaze away before it can falter down to the shape of her lips.  She is surprised; he can tell.  “Well…” Hesitance bites off her next words. Fidgeting on her seat, Devina cocks her head upwards. “There’s a special reason why I wanted to come to Glimwood Tangle tonight.”  “With me?” Damn it shut up!  He wonders if the tiny fraction of silence was her being offended at his foolish reaction.  “Yeah…” She looks down. Slim fingers play with each other, one pad of her finger tapping the nail of another. “I mean, I know I could have bring Hop or Marnie along.”  To hear Hop’s name, to hear Marnie’s name; Bede doesn’t know why—he somewhat knows, but he rather does not want to know—but to hear those two names feels like needles poking his wild heart.  “But today is our day, you know?”  Whatever feeling of bitterness he felt a few seconds ago disappears in a flash. “What?”  She turns to look at him.  Her smile truly is brighter than any mushroom in Glimwood Tangle.  “Our day to hang out?” She adds on, meekly. “We always chill at different places a few times in a month. And I know you live in Ballonlea and this forest is practically your home, but I feel coming here tonight will make it even more special.”  Oh, she is definitely aiming to make him die of suffocation.  “O…okay…?” His reaction this time is not out of spite, but out of sheer bafflement. Like every other time, Devina truly has a knack in knocking him right out of his comfort zone. He takes a sharp breath, then exhales in a slow, shaky manner. “I don’t want to sound like I’m not having a good time.” Believe me, I do. “But what’s so special about tonight?”  She didn’t answer immediately.  Instead she remains silent, yet her mouth slowly curls that smile he adores so much. Without a word, Devina looks at the giant mushrooms a few steps away from them. Taking the silent signal, Bede dumbly brings his gaze to the colourful fungi.  As is right on cue, the mushrooms glow brighter.  The colours are warm and soft and mesmerizing all together. But unlike the other times where they only glow when touched, these mushrooms begin to glow on their own. Shock paints the man’s face, then awe comes next as the mushrooms start to gleam and sparkle like crystals.  One by one the fungi around them shine. The sounds of Pokémon nearby are music to the twinkling mushrooms, probably in awe as well at nature’s beauty. A colour of pink, blue, lavender, and green paint the forest. The leaves and tree branches sway gently by the touch of calm wind, and this cast glorious shadows on the ground thanks to the shine of the breath-taking moon.  “Beautiful, isn’t it?”  Her voice. Her voice is all it takes to make him come back to reality.  He didn’t realize he was holding a breath, for Bede gasps silently as he looks at her. She is so enthralled by the sight of nature’s gift. She is so absorbed on the sound, the music of floral and Pokémon. Both hands lie on her sides, palms pressed gently against the log.  Ever since she showed up, everything that has happened was completely not part of his plan.  “It is…” She is the biggest inclusion of this unplanned fate.  The glee of enjoying the sight around her turns to surprise when she feels something caressing the back of her right hand. Her head turns to his direction. Crimson eyes widen in silent shock. Smooth cheeks redden at the heat of the moment. She is a sharp person, so Devina holds a short breath when she realizes the very close distance between them. Pink lips part slightly, though she is at lost on whether to ask if everything is okay or to just call out his name—  All of that is flown out the window when she feels soft lips against hers.  Eyes are round as they can be, then immediately shut tight in a second heartbeat. Oh man! The words scream in her mind. Oh man! Oh man! Though panic seems to ring her brain, unspeakable joy burst inside her racing heart. Body now trembling slightly from hand to toe, Devina brings her right hand closer to his, fingers intertwine like perfect puzzle pieces. Breath still held firmly in her lungs, she tilts her head slightly, further deepening the kiss.  And this…her actions alone…the fact that she is returning his kiss…Bede feels as if there are fireworks exploding in his chest.  Emotions completely overpowering what little common sense he has, he brings his hand to cup her face. It’s soft…he wonders. She’s soft… Palm gently caresses her cheek. Fingers slowly slides upwards until they brush the short strands of dark hair. Nerves rattle him endlessly at the physical contact, yet he wants nothing more than to have her desperately close to him.  Chu… He presses the kiss again. Chu… And again. Chuu… And again.  Eyes closed and lungs ache at the baited breath, Bede whines slightly and brushes the tip of his nose against hers. He feels her other hand grip his arm. He feels those soft lips brush his own. The little whine that escaped causes his mouth to part slightly, and Bede feels like melting into a puddle when he feels her lips on his lower lip.  “Bede…”  Her voice feels like a pair of scissors that cut the strings that kept him afloat.  Immediately he snaps his eyes open. As if being kicked by her Cinderace, the young man gasps sharply before pulling apart way faster than they like it to be.  “I—!” Words fail him horribly. “I…I—!” Oh dear fuck, what has he done?  Though darkness consumes the area of the forest, Bede can perfectly see her under the light of the moon, stars, and glimmering mushrooms. He can see her face, flushed and red and utterly kissable. He can see her eyes, quite heavily-lidded with eyelashes fluttering at every needy blink. He can see her lips, parted and wet, deliciously inviting him to taste what he has been missing all along.  Saliva tastes like rocks as it slides down his throat.  “I need to—” He has ruined it. “I just…!” He has ruined a perfectly sound friendship with someone who has the common decency to like him for who he actually is. “I—go—!” He doesn’t know why, but the thought alone pricks tears in his eyes.  Not taking a chance for her to respond, Bede jumps to his feet and runs away.  …Or at least, he decides to, if not for the fact that he has forgotten the young woman before him apparently is way stronger than she looks.  “Wait—!” Impulse works faster in terms of verbal and physical reactions. Actually forgetting her own strength, Devina grips his hand that still holds hers and accidentally tugs him downwards.  “What the—!”  Plop!  “Oof!”  Thankfully, the ground is soft.  Unthankfully, the young woman above him is made of flesh and bones.  Everything happens so fast. The first minute, they were sitting on a log, talking and enjoying their little moment. The second minute, they were kissing – intensely, he might add – and thought of nothing but her body pressed closer against his. The third minute, he remembers panicking, then trying to run away, then being forcibly chucked down by the strength of what society calls her ‘The Divine Champion’.  And now? Bede only groans in ache as his elbows press against the soft soil.  It takes him a moment, but heat then paints his face to realize his rival whom he has kissed like a hungry fool is now leaning against his body.  The mushrooms still glimmer beautifully. The wind still hums its soothing tune.  But by Arceus, not even the Alpha Pokémon itself can rid the raging wave of emotions in the gym leader’s heart.  He then hears mumbles on his chest. “Uh…” Like a fool, he gapes. One elbow still placed as an anchor, Bede nervously moves his right hand towards her. “De…Devina…?” His hands shake terribly. He knows damn well she can hear his heart screaming like a mad Loudred right now. “Devina…?”  “Don’t go…”  His hand flinches and hovers near her back.  Truly he is at lost for words for the hundredth time tonight. He remains frozen in place despite the ache in his left elbow. Bede feels a shiver—her shiver, his shiver—and this drives the boy nothing more than the need to wrap his arms around her.  “Bede…” Her voice rumbles against his still chest, against his drumming heart. Hands clutching the front of his jacket, Devina takes a deep breath and looks up at him.  Arceus take him now for her longing gaze is a surely the reason for his death.  “Don’t go…” She repeats. Legs brought up until her knees touch the soil beneath them. This allows Bede some room to breathe properly—which he still fails—and this also allows Devina to adjust herself so that her weight won’t crush him.  She is now leaning on his chest, though. Not that he’s complaining.  “Bede, I…” What will she say? What will she do? She already yanked the poor guy onto the ground. The least she could do is get off of him. “I just…” But no. Instead she just tightens her grip on his jacket.  Mouth pressed softly against his chest. “I love you…” It is now or never. “I… Please don’t go…” Her face is hot. She really wishes winter will come falling to her body now. “I love you…” Unable to handle the pressure of the moment anymore, Devina presses her face against his chest.  While the young champion wallows in shame, Bede is too busy being flabbergasted by her confession.  “I love you…” Did he hear her wrong? “I love you…” Did the impact of her pull and weight actually killed him and he was sent to heaven?  Violet eyes widen, sight sharpen then blur then sharpen again. Time feels as if it has stopped for them. If Bede didn’t realize that he has been holding his breath for a good minute, he sure does now as he gasps out loud in shock.  Devina doesn’t know what he is feeling right now. She is too afraid to even look at him right now. As much as she wants to run away from this, ironic that is sounds considering a few minutes ago, the champion only lingers on his body until she grimly awaits the second Bede pushes him away out of disgust and hatred—  Her body startles, but she feels herself being dropped downwards.  Quickly she brings her head up. Crimson eyes widen in shock, pupils dilate and enlarge at the quick adjustment of darkness and light. She then sees Bede lying on the ground, one arm draped across his eyes while the other spread to the side.  Man, she surely is feeling so many emotions in one night; she is just glad Starlight is sleeping soundly inside her Friend ball or else the Hatterene would definitely throw a violent fit.  He isn’t saying a word. Neither is she.  Both wonder if they can stay like this until the next morning.  “…ou…too…”  Confusion sparks her mind as she tilts her head. “Uh…what?” Deciding to not get off his chest, Devina instead scoots closer. “Bede—?”  “I said I love you!” His arm flings away from his face, and he is equally startled and glad that he didn’t accidentally smack her head.  Well, they sure are feeling a lot of emotions right now.  Their faces mirror each other. Cheeks burn like a thousand suns. Their heartbeats now boom as one. Their bodies still and shiver in a mixture of shock and glee.  “I…” Ever since she showed up, he has the tendency to pour his heart out to her.  Unleashing a sigh of great defeat, Bede finally just throws his arms around her. “I love you…a lot...” Very thankful that her face is close to his, the young gym leader lifts his head to plant a short kiss to her lips. Stifling a shy groan, he shuts his eyes and let the earth take him.  Her body jolts slightly at the hug, at his kiss, at his confession. Did she hear him right, she wonders. If this was truly the trick of some trickster Pokémon, Devina really did have the right mind to unleash and awaken all six of her Pokémon to hunt the cruel being down.  But to feel his embrace, so warm and snug. To hear his rapid heartbeat beating against hers. Devina can’t beat back the smile that shakily, shamelessly grows on her beet red face.  She giggles once. Twice. Then laughs gleefully before nuzzling into his neck.  Arceus, she will be the death of him as he flinches from the delicious contact.  “I love you, Bede!”  Ever since she showed up into his life, Bede has known nothing but wonderful happiness.  His smile grows wider and wider. Laughter then accompanies her own. Not caring about the flushed red that burns right to the tips of his ears, Bede lifts his head again to press a lingering, loving kiss to the top of her head.  “I love you too, Devina.” END

He was her beloved family.
“Oh.” was all that slipped out of her stupor. “O-Oh!” Recollection shook her to reality. “I’m sorry!” Quickly, she apologized, hands slapped to her thighs and head lowered forward.
“No worries.”
Laughter—his laughter—broke a frown on her mouth.
A breath taken, deep and stuttered before she stood up straight. “It’s just—” She should stop. She should be quiet and prevent herself from any further heartbreak. “Nothing.” A forced smile flashed at the tall man. Her cheeks felt hot. Her eyes felt hotter.
It hurt to see his smile.
“Well then!” Hands clasped together  palms pressed firmly against one another. “I’ll be on way, then!” Mind a frantic flutter, Rosa wasted no time and slid one step back.
It burned to that harmless smile.
Breathing shaky through a quivered smile, she waved and quickly turned away.
The stranger didn’t say a word.
----------
Crack.
His smile stiffened.
Crack. Crack.
White teeth tightened behind tight lips.
He only watched her walk away. Watched her back disappear into the sea of people.
Craaack—shing!
A weak breath was battered between a broken smile. Fists that were long clenched by his sides uncurled, leaving tiny, crescent dents in each palm. But the pain on his skin was absent and ignored, for the bleeding wound in the pieces of his heart was far, far more unbearable than he could ever imagine.
Rosa...
Her name was nothing but a curse that haunted his mind. The sight of her figure would be nothing but a shadow that he could never grasp.
“Ro...sa...”
Her name was left as a feeble whimper. Vision blurred by endless sorrow, Luke squeezed his eyes shut and turned around. He had to. He had no other choice, after all.
But no matter how deep his foot had set into the abyss, Rosa...
She was always his beloved.
END
imagine if luke really does leave rosa and change his appearance. but somehow rosa still calls his name when she randomly spots him in the crowd.
maybe its the way he walks or the tone of his speech that makes her 'mistake' this person as luke. then she apologises to this 'stranger' for disturbing him, and luke can only fake it and force a smile, because on records luke pearce doesnt exist anymore.

Resigned Reality
He was the hero of this story.
   And today was the day.
A charming smile. A confident gaze. This was everything he ever hoped for. Brown eyes glinted in the mirror. A wide smile curled swirls at the corners. How excited he could be. Being able to finally gain his very first Pokémon—his very first partner. It was a day he had long waited. A day he looked forward to the moment his gaze fell on a trainer and their own Pokémon. What joy must the trainer felt. To be able to bond with a wondrous creature that put its trust and love to them.
A silly little laugh emitted through white teeth.
   “Paxton! Are you ready?”
A voice from downstairs brought him back from his giddy excitement. Brown eyes blinked for a few heartbeats. “Coming, dad!” he replied, voice just as smooth as his ever-charming father. Giving his cheeks a few taps, Paxton took the black fedora from his bed and walked out of his room.
------------------------------
   “Yes!”
A single cheer was accompanied by boisterous roars. The Totodile jumped higher and higher, celebrating his first victory in a battle. The fallen Chikorita was returned back to her ball, accompanied with a sigh and a small shake of her head.
“Good job.” Credit was given where credit was due. “That was a close one, but I got to hand to you for winning this.” Rubbing the Chikorita’s Pokéball as a quiet way of telling ‘you did good too’, she clipped the ball back to her belt.
   “Cheer up, Taunie.”
His voice was sweet and sincere. Damn him for his inability to make her be annoyed at him.
Lower lip pulled to a playful pout; Taunie looked at her rival. “Enjoy this victory, Paxton.” Masking her embarrassment, she puffed her chest and pointed at the smiling boy. “Soon enough, I’m going to win the next round! And the next! And then the next!”
Regret burst a splash red in her cheeks to see his amused laughter.
------------------------------
He had heard about the Z-A Royale.
About how brutal it was. How challenging it was.
It was exhilarating. Battling trainer after trainer and finding great spots to hide and heal while planning out the next move. Paxton found it terrifying at first, but he soon grew more and more excited at every glorious victory.
Nothing could stop his winning streak.
His team was growing bigger. His Pokémon was getting stronger. Even his starter had gotten a new look, faring a much intimidating final evolution that scared both humans and Pokémon.
He would always be his adorable little partner whom he spoiled like a child, however.
Confidence brimmed in his chest. Looking at his rank, Paxton knew he was a few battles away from achieving the A rank. Everything was going so well. His participation in Quasartico Inc. was going well. He had enough resources to last for a few weeks after restocking in Hotel Z. Even his friend, Taunie was doing great, almost catching up to him and living up to her promise of defeating him—someday.
His smile tickled a blush at the thought of her.
Preparing his team of six inside his little satchel, Paxton tapped his cheeks and huffed proudly.
He could do this. He could do this.
   Nothing could go wrong.
------------------------------
   Nothing was going right.
The sky was tearing apart. The ground was cracking into pieces. Screams were still heard inside the city, yet they were quickly drowned by sounds of falling concretes and crushing bodies.
   Breathing felt heavy.
He needed to move. He needed to move.
Vision split into two, then faded into a blur. Paxton blinked—again and again—vainly hoping to retain his sight.
   It hurt.
His thoughts in a blur. His mind in a haze. Pain quickly registered his entire body, yet all he could do now was groan and squirm on the cracked, dusty ground.
   All was moving too fast.
He remembered reaching the rooftop. He remembered fighting his way through the enemies with his Pokémon. He remembered screaming and shouting, desperately pleading the mastermind to stop the maniacal plan.
   He remembered being too late.
Fatigued and disoriented, Paxton had no choice but to initiate another battle. The fight was, as expected, one-sided due to how haggard his team was. All his life, he had thought that battles were earned through hard work and determination, and these would be rewarded with glory every time. And in his life, this had been proven after countless victories in the Z-A Royale.
   But now. Now.
He learned the hard way that that would never be the case.
As his beloved starter fell terribly, he remembered hearing a deranged cackle. Paxton returned his Pokémon and looked forward—only to be stunned at the sight of a giant, bright, blinding light.
He was about to die. He was about to die!
He didn’t move, yet he remembered moving—!
   Taunie.
A croaked gasp choked out at his memory of Taunie.
Forcing his body upwards, he scanned the area. Through dust and smoke, through shrieks and splatters, he saw her.
   He saw her.
   Still. Very still.
“T-Tau…” Mouth gaped as her name broke through. “Tau…n-ie—” Again, he tried, then cringed in pain at the bleeding cut inside his mouth. His chest hurt. His arms hurt. His legs hurt. Yet he did all he could to push himself up. He gave what little energy he had to try his darndest to drag himself to her.
“—ey…” His cry was drowned by a sea of screams. “Taun—ie…” Her name was broken inside a gurgle of blood. “You…o-oka—”
Pupils shrunk as he now properly saw her.
Her eyes were wide. Her eyes were opened.
   He saw her.
He just wished he never looked at her.
For nausea and despair spat more blood at the sight of her missing jaw.
Crimson pool of flesh and bones puddled thickly beneath her. Her body lay perfectly still. Half of her head tipped to the side, giving him full access of what had become of her.
Her eyes—positioned right at him—were void of light.
Amidst the disoriented reality around them, Paxton could only feel his world shatter.
------------------------------
“So, whoever wins in the A rank will get their wish granted?”
He watched as she nodded enthusiastically.
“Unbelievable, right?” A smile tickled her lips to see his baffled expression. “Then again, a lot of things had happened lately. Besides, Pokémon are considered mystical beings. So having one being able to grant a wish seems pretty realistic.” Hands cupped together; she stretched her arms forward. Strands of pink and white hair cascaded down the sides of her hair.
Thoughts pondered on what she said. “I’m going to assume it’s one person who gets their wish granted, right? Like whoever is the final winner in the A rank?” Curiosity tickled him—something he had obtained from his father. Wonder only gleamed in a pair of brown eyes to see her laughter.
“Yeah.” She was just as excited. “But rest assured, the person who is going to make that wish,” Blue eyes met a pair of browns, “is me.”
   He always adored her enthusiasm.
------------------------------
   Today is the day.
A darling smile. A confident gaze. This is everything she ever hopes for. Brown eyes glint in the mirror. A wide smile curls swirls at the corners. How excited she can be. Being able to finally gain her very first Pokémon—her very first partner. It is a day she has long waited. A day she looks forward to the moment her gaze fell on a trainer and their own Pokémon. What joy must the trainer felt. To be able to bond with a wondrous creature that put its trust and love to them.
A silly little laugh emits through white teeth.
   “Harmony! Are you ready?”
A voice from downstairs brought her back from her giddy excitement. Brown eyes blinked for a few heartbeats. “Coming, mom!” she replied, voice just as sweet as her ever-lovely mother. Giving her cheeks a few taps, Harmony took the white fedora from her bed and walked out of her room.
------------------------------
   “Yes!”
A single cheer was accompanied by boisterous chirps. The Chikorita paraded triumphantly in circles, celebrating his first victory in a battle. The fallen Tepig was returned back to his ball, accompanied with trembled lips and a lowered head.
“Good job.” His voice was steady. He looks up, right at his rival who is now full of smiles.
   His chest hurts.
“That was a close one.” His smile grows wider. “But remember: this was just one battle. I will defeat you in the next.”
Her laugh is all he ever wants to hear.
   “Cheer up, Urbain.”
   His smile almost falters.
Harmony walks towards him. “Let me enjoy this victory.” Stopping in front of him, Harmony scoops up her Chikorita and gives the Pokémon a small kiss on the head as a silent way of saying ‘you did great’.
Blue eyes merely watch as his heart twists anew.
“Soon enough,” Her attention is given back to him, “you might win the next round.”
   His breathing hitches.
   “—Or the next—”
   His vision blurs.
   “—Or the next.”
All he can remember was her bloody, battered body.
Her head tilts at each playful tone. Unaware of the grief that shadows behind beautiful blue eyes, Harmony quietly purses her lips. “I know you’ll do great.” Thinking that her little tease might have hurt his feelings, she gives off words of encouragement. “I hope we can battle more in the future—that one, I’m serious!” A giggle, sheepish and cute, trickles out of her sweet smile.
   Ah.
   It hurts so much.
A charming smile is perfectly practiced on his face. “I hope so too.”
It hurts. But he knows better than to break down at finally being able to see her again.
After all, she is now the hero of this story.
And that is all he ever wished for.

JNHK | Inconsolable Promise
   She was his beloved friend.
Growing up together, Jun never realized just how close they were. It was mere coincidence that they met at the age of 6. It was mere coincidence that they were next-door neighbours in a quaint little town. It was mere coincidence that their moms clicked that they ended up seeing each other almost every day.
It wasn’t mere coincidence that they clicked so well too after all those years.
It was a choice made from mother to children. Jun sought comfort and joy in the dark-haired girl. She was quieter than the ever-boisterous him, yet her patience rivalled even his mother’s. The little girl didn’t mind his presence. In fact, she enjoyed it. She enjoyed every little story they shared with each other. She loved overly energetic behaviour and he loved her utterly magical imagination.
Even as they grew up, their friendship grew stronger than ever.
Studying in a nearby local trainer school, Jun and Hikari were inseparable. Gossip started to spread about their close bond, but both denied it so easily, saying that they saw each other as siblings and nothing more.
She had seen so many shameful things about him, yet she accepted him truly. He had witnessed things even she didn’t want to remember, yet he found her so dearly.
Even after graduation, their friendship never once strained.
Jun convinced her to do something so daring. So foolish. And she accepted his plan, though this time with wariness—something one of them needed to have.
And it was that very plan that led them to their Pokémon journey. It was that very plan that welcomed them to their dreams of striving to be the very best. Jun wanted to be like his father. Hikari once told him that she didn’t mind what her future entailed as long as it had something to do with Pokémon.
Neither realized that her future had a much, much broaden horizon than his.
They went with their journeys, bumping to each other every now and then. They had Pokémon battles, with Jun losing each and every one to a suddenly determined Hikari. But he wasn’t upset. How could he? She was his best friend. As shocked as he was about his defeat with her, he took it as his lesson to do better. Besides, Hikari didn’t know what path she wanted to take, so maybe, maybe—this path was the right one in order to make her happy like him.
Their journeys grew, making them stronger, making them tougher. Neither had expected to face such a terrifying terrorist group, but Jun was quicker to jump back to his feet in order to save the day.
He lost a gruesome lost once. The shame was unbearable.
He remembered devastation—something he rarely felt even when he lost to his friend. He remembered such foul words from the Galactic Admin that made him almost fall to his knees. Jun only stood there in the cold, cold snow. He knew he should be chasing after the enemy. He knew he should be saving the world.
And yet, all he did was stand there.
It wasn’t until Hikari came along and cheered him up. She was quieter than him, but still a talkative person compared to anyone else. Her words held so much meaning, breathing him hope that he thought he’d forever lost.
It gave him the strength he needed to push forward.
And just like that, Jun remembered fighting by her side on Spear Pillar.
Everything happened a lot in a span of years. He watched as she grew more and more assured of what she wanted. First, it was indulging in Pokémon Contests in hopes of earning herself a famed title like her mother. Next, it was training her team to be indestructible after obtaining the title of Champion in Sinnoh. Once, she even tried her hand at completing the Pokédex, catching and documenting every Pokémon in order to satiate her curiosity.
Watching her grow had been a treat for Jun. Watching his dear friend achieve her dreams alongside him was truly something he’s thankful for.
And like a greedy man, he wished for more.
He didn’t remember when it started. Was it when Hikari cheered him up after his devastating loss in Lake Acuity? Was it when he thought he’d lost her the moment she looked back at him before going into the Distortion World? Or was it when she hugged him and cheered for his victory against his own father in the Battle Frontier?
Or was it way before? Way when he decided the one fateful day to catch their very own Pokémon? Way when they were in school? Way when he kept coming to her house to play when they were little?
Jun couldn’t remember. But what he did know that his feelings for Hikari were genuine and true.
It was a few years after their achieved victories. Jun had rented a nice apartment in Canalave City while Hikari had—miraculously but not surprisingly—bought a villa in the Resort Area of the Battle Zone. The latter had the opportunity to lease such a grandeur place thanks to a mysterious previous owner. It was alarming at first and horrifying at worst, but Cynthia soon assured her that it was due to her newfound champion title that she was managed to obtain such a gift.
Jun assumed that being a champion of a region truly had its perks.
For being the youngest champion in Sinnoh, it was reassuring to know that Cynthia would guide Hikari the ropes of handling her new intimidating duties. It took Hikari a while, but she managed to get the gist of it and soon enough, the young woman had shown enough potential to be a champion worthy of Sinnoh.
Jun was happy for her. Very much so.
So, when it came to him wanting to come to her villa to celebrate another great day of work, Jun decided that tonight was the night to take their friendship to a whole new level.
“Are you sure you’re able to bring the cake tonight?”
His laughter earned a disapproved pout on the other side of the screen. “I’m sure,” he replied, mouth tickled to a smile. Walking around his quaint little apartment, Jun took the famous green jacket—gifted by his father—and wore it. Pride always swelled whenever it was wrapped around him. “I bet I can be at your house way earlier than you.”
“Then the neighbours will think you’re a creep and report you to the police again.” A sigh slipped through her lips. Getting ready as well, Hikari applied a simple layer of lipstick before flashing a smile on the mirror. Black eyes then gazed at her childhood friend through the Pokétch screen. “Remember last time? The alarms were blaring when you decided to drop by my villa through the window.”
His smile cringed to a scowl at the bitter memory. “Good to know that their security system works, huh.” A guiltless laugh bubbled out to see her rolled eyes. “Either way, I’ll contact you when I’m there and,” One hand took his Pokétch to make sure his face was close and clear, “I’ll be sure to bring you cake. Your favourite kind.”
His smile was accompanied by warm cheeks to see her radiant joy.
“Promise?” Hikari took her own Pokétch closer too. Now, they were facing each other. She could see him.
He would always see her. “Promise.”
------------------------------
   Time passed slowly. So slowly.
One man sat on a bed. Big and empty. Silence echoed too loudly in a building that deemed too big for one person. Curtain covered the windows, blocking any signs of light and life. All the lights were off, leaving only a flicker of a lamplight that grew dimmer and dimmer over the years.
When he woke up again today, he really wished he didn’t.
How long has it been? Months? Years? Decades? The man lost count at the times he grieved and feared for the unfathomable. Even after being terrified of her sudden disappearance. Even after looking around the entire region. Even after contacting the authorities and asking those knowledgeable about the Pokémon of Time and Space. All that came into his palms were nothing.
   Nothing.
Orange eyes shrunk into dots as grief settled in once more.
Her smile. Her laugh. Her presence.
It was nowhere to be seen except in the pitiful realms of his dreams.
He waited. He waited and waited and waited. That night, confusion turned to worry when he couldn’t reach her through her Pokétch. Worry turned to fear when no one knew who last saw her.
Fear turned to despair when he looked and looked.
   And looked.
And looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked—!
   “Promise?”
A gasp croaked through a dry throat. Sunken red eyes shook inside painful sockets. Head hung low; one hand ruffled through messy, long blonde hair. His frail body grew weaker, aching and begging for sustenance. But his mind and his heart remained constricted, enveloped by madness that continued to sap his sanity away.
   “Promise?”
Her voice echoed in his mind. Over and over again. Hands pressed to the sides of his head, fingers roughly pressing against a throbbing temple.
“H-Hi…” Her name was choked inside a dry throat. “H-Hi…ka…r-ri—”
Drip…drip… A broken name was accompanied by burning tears.
   She was his beloved.

Life
Oh, she marveled, what a wonderful life!
The wild Toxicroak aimed forward, aiming its piercing red claw towards its opponent.
With a smile adorned on her bright face, Hikari raised her right hand and shouted a command. Her Empoleon immediately responded, folding her metal flippers right before the incoming attack.
   PANG!
Metal fur hardened in a blink.
The red claw hit hard against the Emperor Pokémon, yet a smile tickled her beak while a flinch strained the opponent’s mouth.
   Another command was then heard.
Giving no chance for the Toxicroak to retaliate, the Empoleon opened her beak. A swirl of deep, manic grey spiraled in her mouth. Bright light blinded her opponent, and it was only a blink after that the water starter released Flash Cannon.
The powerful beam pushed the Toxicroak back—slam! —crashing its back against a giant boulder.
Dust and rubble surrounded the area. One girl stood her ground while her trusty partner spread her wings in front of her.
Seconds passed by. Heartbeats raced fast.
Finally, the two saw their opponent, shaking off its dizziness before running back into the deep marsh close by.
   Her smile grew wider. Brighter.
Pride filled her very heart, Hikari jumped to her starter. Arms were wrapped around the Emperor Pokémon’s neck. Songs of praises danced through her lips. The Empoleon felt just as joyful, turning around so that she could carefully give her beloved trainer a loving squeeze.
The little celebration felt silly; yet it was everything to Hikari.
As her Empoleon happily lifted her for a single twirl, laughter burst like blissful bubbles. Oh, how happy she felt. To be living a life that any human could ever dream of.
   She felt cold.
   She felt warm.
------------------------------
   Crunch—crack…!
Her legs stayed glued to the ground. Her fists curled tighter at every sound.
Her Zoroark continued tearing the fallen opponent’s flesh. White fangs were stained in deep crimson. Blood dribbled and drooled. Some were from him. Most were from his prey.
Black eyes were void of life as she watched.
   Chomp!
Enjoying his feast, the Baneful Pokémon gnawed on the Toxicroak’s limp arm. One hindleg stomped on the lifeless corpse—rrrip! Holding the carcass in place, he tore the arm apart, easily and simply as if the body was made out of paper. Strings of flesh and nerves dangled from the mangled arm. More blood pooled below his feet, staining his beautiful white fur into the colour of haunting death. Heartlessly, he chewed, fangs digging deep into the disgusting, poisonous flesh.
The blood was thick. It was too much.
Some of it had splattered all over her chest and face. A wince twitched the corner of her right eye, reminding her of the open wound that slashed right through her uniform—right across her bleeding collarbone.
A single thought wandered cruelly into her mind: What would happen if she let out her Pokémon a few seconds late?
She hated that thought. She hated it. She hated it.
The pain—both external and internal—shook her from her stupor.
A deep breath was taken. A flinch was given.
Her frown shook wider. Her vision grew blurrier.
Calmly, she called out for him. Fear no longer engulfed her as the Alpha Zoroark snapped his attention towards her.
Manic yellow eyes were slowly swallowed by black pupils. His gaping jaw formed a proud smile, allowing more blood to drip down to the tips of his black, sharp claws. Standing tall, the giant Pokémon approached her. His skeletal figure was terrifying to many people and Pokémon. One look at him, and anyone could only dread that Death had come for them.
Maybe she was broken, after all, seeing that she was no longer afraid of such a horrifying sight.
As he stood before her, the Zoroark timidly lowered his body so that it almost reached her level.
Her frown quivered to a weak smile.
Shou raised her right hand. A cold palm touched a much colder fur. She stared as her Zoroark purred loudly, completely annihilating the demonic growl and bloodthirsty roar that shattered the air a few minutes ago.
Her eyes almost darted to the headless carcass behind him. She forced herself not to look.
Her mouth parted. Words of gratitude graced her pale lips.
Upon hearing her praises, the Zoroark barked joyfully.
The pain on her chest was forgotten. Only for a while. Only for this moment where the Baneful Pokémon cupped and nuzzled her trembling hand.
The little celebration felt uncanny; yet it was everything for Shou if it meant keeping her sane.
As her Zoroark mumbled what she assumed were noises of comfort and relief, mournful cries remained stuck inside her dry throat. Oh, how ironic she felt. To be living a life that any human would rather die than experience.
Ah, she pondered hollowly, what a cruel life.

SGAO | Despicable Dream
   What a wonderful dream.
He looked at her. Angelic as she was. Her laugh welcomed a gasp that radiated with awe. His attention was stolen, fixated on the very presence that welcomed herself into his once gray life. Words were strung into melodies as she spoke, tickling his ears and grazing a smile that brushed red into his skin.
   She sounded so beautiful.
Carefully, he leaned forward. Eyes blinked at the sight of her deep black irises. The square sunglasses she wore glinted under the brilliant sunlight. He wished, silently and earnestly, to see those pairs of eyes that entranced him.
A smile widened to see the piece of accessory disappear.
   She then looked at him.
Arceus, he gaped, she truly was beautiful.
Her smile mirrored his. Words once again lulled through a pair of pretty lips. She said something, enthusiastically, filling the conversation that livened up the friendship they had.
She always had stories. Fascinating ones. Magnificent even.
   And he had his.
Albeit duller, a bit boring than hers, his heart fluttered endlessly to know she was interested to listen.
   She was interested.
She was interested. No matter what he was talking about, she was interested.
   About his stories. About him.
Body suddenly jolted at a touch of his palm. Quickly, he looked down, eyes blinked in stupor at her hand squeezing his own.
His name was a melody that caressed her lips.
He looked up, face now ablaze. Comfort eased his heart to see that she was embarrassed as well. A squeeze was felt, and he did all that he could not to utter a pathetic peep.
His name escaped her again, pumping blood into his rampant heart.
   “I love you.”
Her voice was clear. Clear as it could ever be.
The bench squeaked every so slightly at his sudden movement. The peaceful silence lingered, but his heart now screamed in joy. Sunlight beamed above them, casting a spotlight that only heightened her beauty.
She remained in her seat, patiently waiting for his response.
What did she love about him?
He wondered. Out loud with pupils dilated and cheeks burned to the tips of each ear.
   She answered so simply.
She admired his passion for battling. He looked like he was having so much fun, she said. He looked like he wasn’t giving up on his team no matter how many times they were down. She was enchanted by his care for her during the festival. He cared for her that night, she continued. He made sure that she was enjoying the festival just as how he enjoyed it every year. She adored his love over the ogre. That was one of the moments where he came to life, she added. No matter what people said, he stayed true to himself to learn about the ogre’s truth.
   She loved everything about him.
As he listened, frozen and baffled at the qualities he believed he never had, his vision started to blur.
   A single tear trickled down.
A single thumb gently swiped it away.
“I love you.” She said it again, clearer and sincere.
He wondered if he moved. He wondered if he could ever move. As tears trickled down shamefully on his beet red face, she said nothing else, merely caressing his cheeks that were warm and wet.
“Will you be mine?” she asked.
His gaze remained on her. On the beautiful blessing that had fallen into his arms.
She only looked at him. Patient. Waiting for his answer.
   Ah, he wanted to laugh.
Taking a deep breath, he opened his mouth.
--------------------------------------------------
   Yellow eyes snapped open.
Cold sweat trickled down the sides of his face. Hair of black and violet remained in disarray. Thick bangs blocked his sight, frazzling his vision that was now blur and blinding.
Silence hanged heavy in the air.
   One heartbeat. Two heartbeats. Three.
Finally, Suguri sat up. His head felt heavy. His heart felt heavier.
   Why… He knew why.
Her presence haunted him. Both his wake and slumber, she was a curse that damned his life. He wondered what he did wrong in his past life. He wondered if he had condemned Arceus in a way that It had to mock him until he had to draw his final breath. Was losing his parents not enough? Was losing everything—his confidence, his hope, his dreams—considered fair treatment that Arceus felt he needed to be punished even further?
What did he do to deserve this?
Tick… Time moved slowly. Tock… Ever so slowly.
Ah… If life was fair, he would have the chance to turn back time. He would have the chance to not meet her. The chance to squish this horrible, horrible feeling away. If life was fair, he would have met a Pokémon that could grant him a wish. A wish to rid this painful feeling away. A wish to allow him to live the once peaceful life he took granted for.
   But life was never fair.
   “I love you.”
Not to him. Never to him.
Drip… drip… His vision blurred. Thoughts were a fog. Dreams and realities mixed so violently, drumming a headache that earned a flinch on the corner of his right eye.
   It had been months.
Months since she appeared into his life. Months since she gave him hope. Months since she ripped everything away.
   Months. Days. Minutes. Seconds.
And yet, she never left him.
Fatigue took a toll on his body, swallowing his anger that constantly conquered his mind. A broken heart hammered violently, twisting his chest until air choked weakly through dry lips.
   He hated this.
   He hated feeling weak.
   Drip…drip…
   “Aoi…”
Her name wasn’t meant to escape him. Her name wasn’t meant to be heard in this dark, empty room.
   And yet, “Aoi…”
Eyes were closed. A sharp breath was taken.
For all that mocked his tainted vision was the sight of her smile under the glorious starry night.
Head dropped forward. Palms cupped a face that was both hollow and wet.
   What a horrible dream.

Skitty | SSS
“Silver, look!” Hopping to his side, Kotone showed him her Pokédex. “Apparently, there’s a rare spawn here somewhere!” Right hand holding the dex, left hand gently tugged the front of his shirt.
Her strength wasn’t applied that harshly, yet out of understanding of her antics, Silver leaned closer. “Hmm?” he lazily replied, one eyebrow raised in silent curiosity. Their faces were close, cheeks almost brushed at the intimate proximity. Right arm wrapped around her waist, hands mindlessly brushing up and down her side.
Indulged in her excitement, Kotone showed what was on the screen. “It’s a Skitty!”
Upon seeing and knowing where this conversation was going, a frown tickled the corners of his mouth. “Kotone,” He leaned away—just the slightest to look at her, “that’s not a rare spawn.”
“It is if it suddenly appeared in Johto!” She looked up, nose almost brushing against his. Taking the opportunity, she tiptoed and lightly pecked the tip of his nose. “Besides, I heard its shiny is super pretty!” Bobbing on the balls of her feet, Kotone averted her attention towards the dex. “I don’t know how the species appeared here, but I’m not gonna miss this chance to catch one!”
“You just don’t want to the miss the chance to name one ‘Silver’.”
   A giggle from her.
   A groan from him.
“Please?” Blinking her beautiful brown eyes, Kotone gave her signature plea that she knew Silver could never resist.
And damn her; she was right.
“Fine…” Rolled eyes accompanied with a defeated sigh, Silver threw a harmless glare. “But on one condition, we make this a competition and find its shiny version. Winner gets to nickname it.” His left index finger was raised while his right arm still tugged the petite woman.
Delighted that he agreed to her request, her smile widened. “Deal!” Hopping to a spin to face him, Kotone flung her arms around his neck. “Thank you! You’re the best boyfriend ever!”
The words came out so naturally, so commonly, yet it never ceased to make his heart race. “I know.” Frown tickled easily to a shaky, amused smile, Silver placed a kiss to the side of her head.
It looks like he needed to find the shiny Kitten Pokémon first if he wanted to nickname it ‘Kotone’.

FAF YOUR TAGS‼️‼️‼️‼️👁👄👁 how am I supposed to stay sane after reading that ❕️❕️I wanna draw it ❕️❕️✍️✍️
KASHY LISTEN!!! work has me in a grip and seeing that made me go OO anyways
It smelled of her.
Ever since he got it back, Green was at lost at the scent that was stuck on the material. It smelled of sweet skin and sweeter sweat. While laughing it off and dismissing the matter with a wave of his hand in front of her, once he’s back home, his masks shattered to pieces by his foot.
Green brought the jacket closer, nose nuzzling the insides of the collar. He took one breath, then shuddered at the scent that could only be emitted by the perfume around her neck. It smelled of lilies and other floral notes, tickling his nostrils that made him dig his face even more.
Lying by his side on the soft, empty bed, Green wrapped the jacket around his arms, pressing it closer to his flushed face.
He could see her. Lying next to him. Face adorably red and lips puffy and pink. A kiss would be bestowed upon his head while he himself would be immersed in the soft plush of her breasts.
A sharp breath was inhaled.
To smell her. To kiss her. To feel her. To eat her—
“Leaf...”
To have her.
His legs shifted at the discomfort in his pants. One hand clutched the jacket harder, while the other hesitated near his hips, wondering if he should relieve himself like a perverted fool.
Dignity melted along with the tantalizing scent, Green tilted his head upwards and released a panted breath. Hooded eyes glazed with wanton. Aching chest tightened with desire.
“Hng...” A low groan grumbled in his throat.
Knowing that he might as well find pleasure in his foolishness, Green slid his other hand down. Down to the side of his hip. Down into his pants.
As his eyes closed and his nose nuzzled, all he could see was her.

His Gaze | FWS
His gaze was void of emotion.
He stared from afar. Stared as the man he called father gave his speech. Words became empty breaths as they parted through pale lips. No emotion gleamed in such a face. Even the calm colour of blue irises dulled immensely under the sun’s brilliant glow.
He didn’t move a muscle. Not once. Not a step.
Only the sight of his chest moving calmly was any indication of his living. His breathing just as silent, he watched as the man gave a boastful roar that shattered the audience’s confidence on what they used to believe in.
Yes. This was for the Pokémon. This was always for the Pokémon.
Suddenly, he felt a soft touch on his left palm.
Finally, the man moved. His head lowered; gaze fallen on the Purrloin who purred and nuzzled his warm palm. The Pokémon was quite friendly. Even though they just met, the very fact that the man was able to communicate with him easily earned Purrloin’s trust.
“Lend me your strength,” the mysterious man requested an hour ago. While the bond they shared was temporary, the Purrloin was more than happy to lend a paw.
The sight twitched a smile on the man’s face.
   The speech finally ended.
As he watched his father and fellow grunts walk away from the park, he also observed the people in it. Opinions were heard. Thoughts were scattered. Some agreed with what his father declared. Some already started to bid farewell to the Pokémon who deserved better than mere subjugation.
Some however were still hesitant, saying that they would never break a bond they had made with their beloved Pokémon.
   Foolish.
   It was what he thought.
Lips in a straight line, he moved a few steps forward. The crowd started to lessen, but the man kept a distance in order to ease his comfort. It was then that he started hearing the voices of Pokémon as well.
Some chirped their goodbyes. Some barked their confusion. Some even stayed quiet, unmoving in their Pokéballs as their fellow humans discussed their freedom.
   Selfish.
   It was what he thought—
‘I’m never leaving you, Touko! That’s a promise!’
   Eyes widened. Pupils shrunk.
Such a confession truly caught him off guard. Actual movement was given from the man; head turned left and right to find the source of the voice. It sounded young, yet brimmed with confidence that could rival a fully-evolved Pokémon.
Finally, he caught sight of two teenagers.
They were a few steps away. A boy and a girl.
One boy had his back turned on him. A Snivy was seen clinging to his right leg. While the Grass Snake Pokémon didn’t say a word, he was seen nodding his head in vigor at whatever the other Pokémon was saying.
The boy and Pokémon were facing a girl. In her arms was an Oshawott, face boasting with pride as he crossed his little arms and cocked his head high.
‘This bond we have is special!’ It was the Oshawott’s voice that squeaked. ‘No way some stupid speech about liberation is gonna make me leave my trainer. She’s the best!’ His white little paw pounded on his chest, right at the hard shell that was positioned right in the center. The sight was apparently amusing for the two humans for they started to laugh.
The particular girl laughed the loudest. Left arm cradling the Oshawott’s bottom, she had her right hand scratching the Sea Otter Pokémon’s cheek. The action only made the Pokémon smile wider, voices now bursting with coos and squeaks of affection. Unable to handle how adorable the Pokémon was, the girl brought it closer to her face and snuggle him.
   The laughter rang louder.
He looked at her, pupils dilated slightly at the female trainer. Her hair was a long brown and was tied to a high ponytail. Her arms looked slim, yet he could guess her strength based on how long she had carried the water Pokémon. Even with a hat on her head and the long brown bangs on the sides of her face, he was able to see her.
   A silent gasp escaped him.
Her smile was bright. So bright. White teeth flashed in his gaze, brilliantly blinding him until he could see nothing else but her. The sound of her laugh was sanguine. Despite the gloomy aura the speech had given to some, it seemed that it didn’t bother her the least. Even though the girl couldn’t understand what the Pokémon in her arms had just said, amazement held him still to see such confidence, knowing that their friendship wouldn’t dissolve so easily.
   “You’re so cute!”
   He heard her speak.
“I’m never leaving you, buddy. You’re family to me now!”
   Mouth parted. Chest ached.
   Ba-dump!
He didn’t know when. He didn’t know how. But as his gaze fell on her, he felt his feet move forward.
   Towards them. Towards her.
As he approached, he watched as the two Pokémon sensed his arrival first. Immediately, the two were on guard; the Snivy stood before the spectacled boy and the Oshawott assumed a jumping position out of the girl’s embrace.
The man stopped just a step away.
The two trainers turned to meet his intimidating height. Confusion hovered above their heads with wary eyes gleaming under the sunlight.
“Can we help you?” the girl asked, voice now cold and absent of the joy that burst a few minutes ago.
The man wanted to hear her laugh again; he didn’t know why.
Blue eyes looked at the Oshawott in her arms, then at her.
“Your Pokémon,” he broke the heavy silence, voice low and husky, “he just spoke. He said that that you two have a special bond.”
Confusion merely intensified on the two trainers’ faces while shock flashed in the Pokémon’s eyes.
Without waiting for a reply, he continued, “I am N.”
That was all he said. And as he did, blue eyes still remained on the girl.
“I…see.” The other boy spoke. “I’m Cheren. And this is my friend, Touko.” One hand adjusting his glasses, Cheren waved one hand to the girl beside him.
   Words were never exchanged.
Feeling awkward at the exchange, the girl—Touko—decided to say something. “So…what did you just say again?” Curious and wary at the odd man, Touko raised a single eyebrow. “About Isaac saying something?” Of course, she couldn’t believe that the man before them understood Pokémon. She figured he was just a strange person looking for a conversation starter.
But after a few heartbeats of not replying anything, Touko assumed that wasn’t the case.
   “Battle me.”
Instead, stupor slapped her silly at the request. “I—what?”
Again, the man frustratingly didn’t repeat his words. However, he did repeat it with actions as he pointed directly at her. In a silent signal, the Purrloin that watched the whole ordeal from afar scurried forward, then readied himself in a battling position right between his new friend and the female trainer.
Confusion only thickened between the two trainers.
That confusion lasted a few seconds however as the Oshawott—Isaac—finally hopped out of Touko’s arms and assumed an attack position as well. ‘You’re on,’ he chirped, paw holding his shell and flashing a cocky grin at his opponent.
Taking her starter’s stance as accepting the battle, Touko let out a sigh. “Okay then.” Shrugging once, she fixed her cap and tilted her head in pride.
To see both human and Pokémon mimic each other so well, N felt his breath hitch.
The corners of his mouth never moved, but lips did purse to see such a sight.
With a single slight of his hand, the battle began.
His gaze was full of her.

SGAO | Unrequited Destiny 3
   Love comes in many forms.
For some, it is air, filling their lungs as their necessity to live. For some, it is water, quenching them of their thirst. For some, it is solid, giving them a sense of comfort once it’s felt and held.
For some, it is wind, gusting right at one’s face which leaves them gasping.
   “Thank you.”
His breathing hitched again at the memory.
Arceus, what was he doing, he wondered? The incident was many hours ago and it still lingered in his mind. After the whole battle, amazement left him perfectly still as Carmine’s final Pokémon limped on the ground. The other Pokémon on the field—a bipedal grass-type feline—gave a graceful bow before cocking his head in victory.
While he heard his sister’s annoyed grunts, his eyes reverted to the other person.
Pupils dilated at such a sight.
Like her Pokémon, she stood tall, one hand on her hip while the back of her left hand wiped away sweat from under her chin. Bright sunlight allowed her sunglasses to gleam dazzlingly, and once again, the tilt of her head allowed her eyes to finally be seen from behind such dark glasses. A smirk tugged the corner of her mouth, exuding powerful confidence which matched the power of her own team.
The battle was shamefully one-sided, something the siblings quickly realized the moment Carmine initiated it.
Kieran never doubted his sister’s battling prowess. She was top in her class, after all. While not being one of the Blackberry Academy Elite Four members, she still held her title as one of the most menacing trainers in school. Only a fool would want to battle her hoping that they would come out unscathed.
It would seem that Carmine now was at the shorter end of the stick.
Watching her, watching the magnificent stranger, Kieran knew he had a long, long, long way to go.
   And yet…
The gap should’ve made him upset. He was slightly upset.
However, the very fact that he was able to talk to her somewhat alleviated the sorrow that supposed to gloom within.
------------------------------
   It was long day.
At least, that’s what Aoi felt.
After the sudden battle—and obvious victory—the owner of a community centre nearby came by and apologized for the whole ordeal. It seemed that he was one of the staffs in charge of the excursion program, specifically for the accommodation section. Even though Aoi didn’t mind it, it seemed that the old man still needed to scold Carmine for her rude actions. It was a few minutes of witnessing the pitiful scolding session that Aoi had to chime in and tell him about the poor sick classmate.
Once that was settled, she and the other Naranja students were introduced to their new, temporary living quarters. The building was quaint and cute, made out of sturdy, dark brown wood and white smooth bricks. The building was placed a few distances away from the town’s gate, enabling guests and citizens to use it with ease. A plaque was perched on top of the entrance, and it took her a few minutes to translate the meaning in her head.
‘Mossui Town Center’ was what it said in white paint on a thick wooden plate. Aoi was glad she took Japanese Language class as part of her curricular credits.
As they entered the place, Aoi could practically hear her schoolmates gasp in glee at the surrounding.
The place was just as welcoming, quiet and adorned with beautiful traditional decorations. The entryway was not crowded at all, and all were required to take off their shoes and placed them inside a shelf. On her left, she could see a plate of yellow, glutinous rice shaped like a Chingling. It was a complimentary welcome treat, and the girl loved every bite of it. On her right, she could see some magazines and brochures that highlighted the beauty of Kitakami. Aoi would remember to take some and read later.
It had some modernized applications here and there as well like a huge TV on a wall in the public room they could use. There was even a public kitchen for them which consisted of an electric stove and oven, and this honestly gave Aoi a huge sense of relief; the last thing she wanted was to impress everyone with her ability to burn things by accident.
After registering their names, Aoi was given a code to the girl’s dorm. She was also told that her Pokémon were allowed out of their balls and into the building, assuming that they were at most 200cm tall. Her Pokémon must have had heard the receptionist’s words, for the next thing Aoi knew, Yuan had immediately popped out of his Pokéball and stretched shamelessly.
A sigh and a shake of her head was given while the nice old lady on the other side of the counter laughed at the Meowscarada’s antics.
Finally, she found her bed and made peace with it. Dropping her luggage by the side, Aoi plumped on the bed with arms spread open.
   Fatigue wrapped her entire body.
“Man…” One arm draped across her eyes—
   Thunk.
“Ack…!” Forgetting that she still had her sunglasses on, Aoi took them off and placed it on the side. Again, she draped one arm across her closed eyes. The light weight eased some of her headaches. Finally, after 13 long, long hours, she finally had the chance to just melt in place.
As if the flight alone wasn’t strenuous enough, the hour-long bus ride almost took her out if not for the phone calls with her mom and friends. Her body still held on, filled with plane food and her fifth water bottle of the day. Once arrived at the bus stop, the summer heat almost plummeted right through her tanned skin. It was times like that that she was glad she wore her sunglasses, but her skin didn’t appreciate the blaring heat.
And then her schoolmate got nauseous. And she was asked to go to the nearest town for help.
Aoi didn’t mind helping. Truly, she didn’t. But a lie was lie if she admitted that she was more than happy to assist.
And of course, how could she forget the warmest welcome in the world? In truth, she didn’t expect any animosity from anyone really, especially from the other side of the world. As famous as she was, she was never one to appreciate having rivals or enemies. In fact, Aoi would find and fix the issue at the first sight of dispute. She knew there would be people who hated losing, so she always found a way to cheer them up after a battle with her. She knew there would be people who felt jealous after seeing her score high in her class, so she always found a way to have some study sessions with other classmates.
She knew there would be people who despised her fame and luck, so she would always, always remember to be humble and supportive.
But in those cases, Aoi would have found the reason in order to seek the solution. But with whatever that happened this morning, bafflement clouded her judgement. Even though the battle was set and everyone else had resolved the misunderstanding, a part of her felt uneasy at the cold introduction she had with Carmine.
She should apologize and talk to the girl tomorrow.
“Ugh…” Right after her body healed from the jetlag.
Suddenly, a bright red light zoomed out of her bag.
   ‘I’m hungry.’
“Oof—Yuan!” Gasping at the feel of something heavier on her stomach, Aoi swung her right arm and glared at the perpetrator.
No guilt. Not a single flicker of shame even in the Meowscarada’s eyes. ‘Feed me!’ he meowed, nuzzling his face on her stomach. ‘It’s so tiring being in the Pokéball for many hours and I deserve a reward too for doing super well in battle today.’ Again and again, he complained, whines and meows bumping against the walls of the dorm room. Big paws placed on either side of her hips, Yuan tucked his chin on her stomach and gave her the biggest, saddest, most pitiful stare.
No matter the evolution, the sight alone always pierced an arrow through her heart.
“Get off me, you big kittycat.” Laughing at his antics, Aoi lightly pushed him away. The action clearly was a mistake, for the next thing she knew, her waist was wrapped in a tight hug. “A-Ah, Yuan!”
The starter was relentless. And frankly, just as stubborn as her.
‘Feed meeee!’ Again, he meowed, louder than the last time. If anyone heard him, one would assume he was being tortured in the worst way possible.
In a way, he knew he was.
“Okay, okay!” Realizing what he wanted, Aoi continuously patted his fluffy head. “I’m getting up! I’m getting up!” Legs kicking in the air, the girl tried to sit up. Even though the Meowscarada was almost as heavy as her, the Pokémon was a spoiled feline through and through as if he was still a Sprigatito. Aoi sometimes wondered where she went wrong with raising him.
Eating up his victory, Yuan straddled her and raised his arms. ‘Yay!’ he cheered, fangs flashing devilishly. Hopping off the bed in a graceful manner, he snatched her backpack. One arm was folded behind his back. With one foot positioned backwards, the starter bowed charmingly and handed her the bag.
With a lazy frown, Aoi stared blankly at him. Black eyes then darted to the shaking bag. She knew she was minutes away before having her whole team burst out and cause chaos.
Another sigh. Though this time, it was accompanied with a loving smile.
------------------------------
“Thank you, ma’am!” Smile ever charming, she paid the old lady and took a few plastic bags of snacks. Knowing Yuan was hopping on the balls of his paws, Aoi took out the small packet of Pokétreats and gave it to him. Without a single moment of hesitance, she watched as he took the packet, tore it, and popped the biscuits into his mouth. A huge purr vibrated from the starter, and this only made her smile wider—
   “Ah!”
Black eyes widened at the familiar noise. She turned around, eyes blinked in surprise at the person in question. “Oh!” Joy widened her smile. Though it was a small town, she honestly didn’t expect to meet someone she just met today.
   And in Kieran’s case?
His whole body froze. 20 minutes ago, he decided to take a stroll around the town to clear his mind and maybe get some of his favourite candies. Never in his life would he expect to bump into the one person who had been on his mind all day. “I—” Oh Arceus, what would he do? What would he say? The squeak of his voice was enough to burn heat into his cheeks. Was his hair okay? Was his clothes okay? If he knew he was going to see her in town—
What the hell was he thinking? Of course he was going to see in town! It was a small town, goddammit!
   “You’re…Kiki, right?”
Kieran wondered if the earth could open up and swallow him right now.
“I’m—!” Another squeak. Damn it! “My—name is Kieran, actually.” Voice timid and soft, Kieran held a deep breath and forced his gaze to fall on her. She stood a few steps away, so he was thankful for that. “Kiki is… Well, my sister and grandparents usually call me that.”
“Oh!” One hand cupped her mouth. “Sorry, didn’t mean to call you that.” One hand still holding the plastic bags of snacks, Aoi rubbed the side of her neck. “It’s just that I heard your sister call you that.” A chuckle slipped between her shy smile. “So, I figured it was your name.”
   God, her laugh was beautiful.
“It’s okay.” His heart still raced. His cheeks still flushed. But bliss radiated within him. Being given a chance to talk to her was truly a blessing of the day. “Ah, right!” Remembering what happened this morning, a quick sense of guilt and dread seeped in. “I’m really sorry about my sister today!” Hands on his thighs, Kieran bowed. “She’s usually not like that. Well, I mean she is usually like that, but she’s actually really kind!”
Eyes widened in aghast of his sister’s actions, Kieran stayed in position. It wasn’t until he heard her laughter again that a small gasp exhaled out of him.
He truly loved hearing that sound.
   “Hey, no worries.”
Utterly relieved that she forgave her, Kieran sighed in relief and stood up straight—
“Wah!” Only to shout in shock at the sudden, close distance between them.
“Whoah!” Surprised at the scream, Aoi slid one foot backward. “Sorry, sorry!” Hands were raised and waved across her chest. “I didn’t mean to startle you! I just…” She didn’t hear him well, so a few steps wouldn’t hurt. She didn’t expect the boy to be quite jittery.
“No, no!” Ah, he was making a fool of himself. “It’s not you.” It’s him. It’s always him. Taking a deep breath and standing up straight, Kieran held the strap of his satchel. “I didn’t expect you to come closer.” A dumbfounded laughter broke through his quivered smile. Maybe, if he prayed hard enough, the earth would open up and swallow him.
While a hurricane of flustered emotions broke inside him, amusement tickled her cheeks.
She felt bad for seeing how cute he looked.
She should feel worse for wanting to tread further. “I can’t hear your voice if I can’t come closer, you know?” Hands behind her back, she tipped her head to the side. Her voice softened, quieted, lulled a melodious tone that tickled through her lips. “Besides, how am I going to know you if I can’t approach you?”
   Ba-bump!
Aoi wondered if her tactic worked.
She didn’t realize that it worked a little too well.
“O-Oh!” He wondered if the sun was extra hot today. “You… You want to know me?” It was the first time someone ever approached him to get to know him. Usually, people saw him as Carmine’s little brother. He rarely spoke in class. He rarely interacted with anybody. The only ‘friends’ he made was through Carmine herself. And even then, he’d rather have his sister around if they were hanging out.
So, to hear, to see that someone wanted to get to know him…though embarrassment burned to the tip of his ears, joy also sparkled in his eyes.
   His beautiful, beautiful yellow eyes.
   Aoi felt hypnotized by them.
“Yeah!” The answer was immediate, almost too sudden. Blinking back her senses, Aoi nodded happily. “I think we got off at a weird start this morning so let’s try again, shall we?” Coughing away the awkward feeling, she stretched out her right hand towards him. “I’m Aoi. A student in Naranja Academy in Paldea. Nice to meet you!” A bright smile tickled her cheeks, skin dusted pink that further complimented her beautiful skin.
A few heartbeats lingered by. Bafflement remained at her outstretched hand. “Hah…” A single gasp blurted out. A single smile widened beautifully. “I’m Kieran.” Finally, with pursed lips, he shook her hand.
    Her hand was warm.
“I’m—” Remembering to look at the girl, Kieran met her delighted gaze. “I’m a student in Blueberry Academy and I happen to live and grow up in Kitakami.” His grip on her tightened lightly—he felt her hand squeeze back.
Another surprise flicker behind black sunglasses. “Oh, that’s so cool!” Caught in her glee, Aoi accidentally tugged him a bit forward.
The action made his breathing hitch.
“If you don’t mind, I’d love to know the place more!” Black eyes glistened like stars as she brought his hand upwards. Both hands now cupped his, letting it linger right between one excited girl and one stupefied boy.
Aoi was considered a cool and charming student back in her school. Rarely did people see her fluster or break a sweat. It was one of the many traits that caught anyone’s attention whenever they saw her. In truth, while Nemoma was obviously famous for being overzealous in anything battling, Aoi was also an ecstatic trainer especially when it comes to travelling.
And like one of her best friends, her excitement sometimes clouded her rationality.
Swirls formed inside his eyes at the distance. At the touch. Kieran wondered if this was culture shock. He wondered if this was something city folk would do.
Either way, a whine clogged his throat.
Realizing her actions after the fifth blink, Aoi quickly straightened her back and let go. “Sorry!” Hands were back to being raised; this time positioned on either side of her head. Unfortunately, the plastic bags were released out of surprise. Fortunately, Yuan was swift enough to snatch them before they splatter pitifully onto the ground.
“Oh shit!” Making a fool of herself was also one of Aoi’s charms. “Thanks, Yuan!” Palms pressed together; she bowed her head at the sighing Meowscarada.
Seeing such a scene, a part of Kieran felt utterly relieved—utterly smitten—that she was just like any silly human being.
   Ba-dump! Ba-dump!
The hand holding the satchel—one that rested close to his screaming heart—tightened.
“Sorry.” She wondered how many apologies had been blurted out of her today. “I like travelling a lot. So, to know you’re from here is super exciting.” One finger lightly grazed her warm cheek.
   Cute. She was cute.
Trembling lips held a smile. “Well then…” Yellow eyes met a pair of hidden blacks. “I’m—I’m glad.” Manic heart pounded inside his chest. “I—” Mouth parted open. Invitation died in between baited breath. He would love to show her around. He would love to talk to her more. Even though they just met hours ago and was now having a proper conversation together, he would love to get to know more about her.
Eyes darted to the curious Meowscarada next to her.
Memories of her battling techniques reeled in his mind. It made his heart race quicker. It made his breathing flow faster.
He would love to have a battle with her.
Alas, the many desires died down. Feeling defeated at his pitiful nature, Kieran brought his right hand up. His thumb jutted up; teeth then lightly nibbled at the nail.
Who was he to have all that?
Gloom dulled the shine in a pair of yellow irises.
   ‘Can we go?’
Suddenly, a meow snapped him from his trance. Immediately, his hand dropped back to the strap of his satchel. Kieran looked forward, right at the Magician Pokémon who was now tugging her arm.
‘It’s getting hot and I’m pretty sure the rest are hungry too,’ Yuan cooed, head lowered to nuzzle his cheek against hers. One arm holding what his trainer had purchased, he wrapped one paw on her left arm. Dazzling pink eyes stared at Aoi. Given the girl’s short stature, Yuan was almost a few centimetres taller than her. This of course was wonderful news to the grass starter, as he was able to take advantage of his bipedal status and tall height to persuade Aoi to do whatever he wanted.
Sometimes, it worked. Most times, it didn’t.
‘If we stay any longer, I’m pretty sure Koraidon and Siamang would love to pop out and rummage through the stalls.’ A husky purr lulled between sharp fangs. A lovely smile curled his mouth.
Even though his words were nothing but sounds to the humans, Aoi sometimes could put two and two together.
“Alright, alright.” A soft laugh escaped her. Patting the Pokémon’s fluffy arm, she looked at Kieran. “I gotta go but it was nice meeting you!” Hand now mindlessly patting her spoiled starter, an excited smile graced her lips. “The orientation is tomorrow morning, right? Hope I get to see you and Carmine then!”
Not a hint of malice. Not a hint of provocation.
   Sincere. Genuine.
   That was for him.
   Ba-dump, ba-dump, ba-dump!
“Mhm…” A single nod.  A tighter hold. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Aoi.”
Waving goodbye, Aoi walked past him. Kieran only watched as she disappeared from his line of sight.
   One minutes. Two minutes. Three.
Finally, after what felt like holding his breath for far too long, a long, long sigh escaped him. One hand rested on his chest, fingers lightly pressing against his shirt and jacket to feel the rapid beat of his heart. His cheeks still felt warm. His head still felt dizzy.
Was this normal, he wondered? He’d never had someone approach him on their own volition, so to have that sort of interaction truly left a mark on him.
“I’m Aoi!” Her voice as lovely.
“How am I going to know you if I can’t approach you?” Her words were sweeter than candy.
Stupor left him exhaling a defeated chuckle.
Doubt still rooted deep within him, piercing his heart, expanding inside his brain. While her actions, her words, seemed genuine, Kieran pondered if it was all just a ploy.
She barely knew him. Why would she want to in the first place?
A sharp inhale. A shocked gasp.
Shaking his head slightly, Kieran spun his heel and headed towards a stall. The more he thought about it, the more it hurt. He would rather be drowned in candies. Who knows? Maybe he would get nauseous tomorrow and wouldn’t be able to see the one person who was stirring such doubt inside him?
   He stopped.
Then again, the idea of not seeing Aoi also twisted a painful ache in his chest.
“Man…” Yellow eyes dulled. Pupils, black and almost slitted, stared at the ground.
Her smile still played in his mind.
Clutching his satchel harder, Kieran took a deep breath and pressed forward.
------------------------------
They say that Pokémon have sharper senses than any human. Even if they’re not a psychic-type, Pokémon typically were more aware of their surroundings and emotions, be it from themselves or humans.
And this was the truth when Yuan sensed something foreboding in the new kid.
As they walked arm in arm, he looked behind. The boy was nowhere in sight, thankfully. As much as he was right about his teammates being hungry too, at least they were more patient and sensible than his spoiled self.
But no. That wasn’t the reason he had to bring Aoi away.
He saw the frightful gloom in his eyes. He sensed the dismal expressions on his face.
Yuan had had many experiences where he had to shoo away Aoi’s potential mates. While Aoi herself was smart enough to not let anyone in inside her heart, the Meowscarada was always one step ahead to ensure his trainer’s happiness. Aoi didn’t like anyone hating her after all.
   “Yuan, you okay, buddy?”
Her voice brought him back to the present. ‘Yes!’ Quickly, he replied with a soft purr. Again, he gently bumped his fuzzy cheek against hers.
A smile grew wider to hear her ticklish laugh.
“Come on, let’s go see what’s for dinner tonight!” Unaware of the Pokémon’s thoughts—or words for that matter—Aoi tugged him towards the community centre.
As they walked, Yuan took one last protective peek behind them.

SSS | Alone
   It’s not bad being alone.
Sometimes it envelopes you. Sometimes it suffocates you. Depending on the situation, being alone has a knack of either giving you hope on a silver platter or filling you with inescapable dread. Being alone allows one’s mind to think. To breathe. Being alone allows one’s heart to beat soundly, singing a calm tune to their ears.
Being alone sometimes comes with the feeling of loneliness. And it is sometimes she’s not keen on looking forward to.
However, as she sits in front of the quiet campfire, she realizes that loneliness is a form of company as well.
It’s quiet. Peaceful. Oftentimes haunting. Others once said that the feeling of loneliness could drive one crazy, and she believes them. There are many times in the past that she wished she could erase some actions she regrets deeply so. She also heard that loneliness could drive one to grief, and she understands. There are many times in the past that she saw the emotion rob someone of the promised happiness.
At times, loneliness is a sense of comfort that gives her peace.
Arms wrap around her knees. Chin rests on her kneecaps, she watches as the fire flickers peacefully. Hazel eyes stare on the left. A small smile twitches the corner of her mouth to see Damien snoozing peacefully.
While she may feel lonely, she technically isn’t alone.
One hand pats the top of his head, earning a soft purr from the Typhlosion. The Pokémon tucks his face under one paw as he curls next to her. The sight is too cute for her to watch, and this draws out a soft giggle from her.
   “Kotone?”
The hand that pats him stops.
Surprised by the voice, Kotone looks up. Surprise turns to shock as she sees the last person she ever expects.
Silver only stands for a while, also surprised by her presence tonight. “Huh,” is all he says next. No sign of displeasure plasters the young man’s face. The rival in front of him hasn’t said a word, probably too stunned to do so as seeing each other in a random forest isn’t part of their plan.
Funny, he thinks, as they always bumped into each other more than necessary in the past.
A single chuckle escapes him. “You okay?”
The man is filled with surprises today. “Oh!” Finally, a peep from her. “I’m fine.” A smile grows wider. “I just didn’t expect to see you tonight.” Acting out of instinct, Kotone pats a spot next to her. She doesn’t think much of it. A habit, it probably is, and it’s something that she won’t hesitate to do whenever he’s around.
And it’s something he doesn’t question as he sits next to her.
A disgruntled grumble echoes nearby. Silver doesn’t need to investigate to know where that sound comes from.
Reassuring her grumpy fire starter, Kotone bents to give a small peck on the top of his head. “Have you had dinner yet?” The question is out as she straightens her back and looks at Silver. Her smile, while being something that is so natural to her, seems less peppy and more…peaceful.
   He realizes this.
“Hmm,” is all he replies. As his legs cross, Silver lets the gears in his brain grind. His aloof reply is something he’s used to, and something she’s used to as well. Albeit rude from a stranger’s gaze, Silver knows Kotone could read his emotions through a single word.
It’s something he once found infuriating. And now something he finds so endearing.
Finally decided on his actions, he turns slightly in her direction. Without a word, his arms spread open.
A smile tickles his lips to see shock on her face again.
Truly, the young woman is stunned for words. Silver is rarely the type to display public forms of affection. Even in their years of rivalry turned relationship, he will only display his feeling through simple actions such as holding her hand or patting her head.
   Ah.
Then again, they are alone in a peaceful forest. Only the stars and moon become their beautiful witness.
The feeling of shock swiftly dissolves into sheer giddiness. A giggle tickles her pretty, pretty smile. Without a word, Kotone shyly scoots closer until her body was wrapped by his arms.
He feels warmer, more comfortable than the fire.
Cheeks are kissed by bliss; Kotone wraps her own knees close to her chest as she snuggles on his side. She then feels a soft chup on the left side of her head, and this only brings heat straight to the tips of her ears.
Carefully, he stretches his legs forward, giving her an easier access to huddle in his embrace. Cheeks tinted in red, Silver nuzzles into her soft brown locks. “Feeling better?” he asks, voice quiet and husky, lulled with admiration that neither once believed they would ever portray for each other.
“Yes,” she peeps, voice quiet and bashful, trickling with affection that neither once believed they would ever have for one another.
The sound of crackling fire soothes their thundering hearts. The sights of their loving smiles are hidden through their snuggling bodies.
   It’s not bad being alone.
But it’s not bad to have company either.

A Love that Never Left | GRLF (Smut)
When he called her name, it was filled with childlike joy.
   “Leaf!”
The boy’s smile was as radiant as the sun. The moment dark brown eyes met a pair of lighter browns, his smile widened brighter. “Come on!” he spoke, voice almost squeaking in glee as he held her hand. “Grandpa said there’s a loooot of Pidgeys flying around today!”
The little girl looked at him, eyes big in wonder and cheeks a touch of pink. Words were void from her—they always were—but the boy never needed them as her expression was enough to evoke a response.
Small hand in hers, the boy playfully tugged his dearest friend out of her room.
------------------------------
When he called her name, it was filled with innocent admiration.
   “Leaf!”
The girl looked at him, a single eyebrow raised.
Unlike her, his voice was always boisterous and loud. “Want to know something cool?”
   She always liked it, though.
Her head tilted. Beautiful brown eyes blinked in question at his exuberance and question.
“You’re my best friend!” Small arms spread to the side. As both children sat on a meadow near their neighbourhood, his voice was accompanied by the gentle breeze. “You’re really fun to be with, you know!”
Not once did she expect him to declare such a confession. Her soft heart beat wildly. Her face now kissed by the sun above. She only saw his smile, bright and beaming, showing obvious pride at the knowledge at hand.
She didn’t know what this feeling was, but she adored it.
Quietly, she nodded once and looked away in embarrassment. Oh, how her heart fluttered again when she felt Green playfully bumped her left shoulder.
------------------------------
When he said her name, it was filled with bored ignorance.
   “Oh. Leaf.”
She hated the way he said her name.
His gaze never met her. “What do you want?” His voice bland and dull. Green eyes spotted the route from afar, heart beating in excitement at the possible Pokémon he could meet and observe.
A minute passed by. He realized she never responded.
   Of course, she wouldn’t.
An annoyed sigh huffed between parted lips.
The action only made her flinch.
“Look…” She was dragging him down. “I uh…I’m kinda busy.” Finally, he looked at her. A groan was kept tightly in his throat to see such sorrow on her face. He saw her fingers fiddle; an action she did whenever she felt uncomfortable.
And now, he was the source of that discomfort.
Teeth gritted behind pursed mouth. “If you have nothing to say, I gotta go.” He didn’t have time for this. He had interesting Pokémon to study and dreams to achieve.
Besides, they weren’t babies anymore. She shouldn’t cling to him whenever she liked.
   Something stung his heart.
A hiss spat through gritted teeth, Green turned his heel and walked away.
Leaf only watched, heartbroken and hurt.
------------------------------
When he called her name, it was filled with cocky pride.
“Well, well, well, Leaf.” he slurred, mouth curled to a disgusted smirk. “Look who decided to drop by.” Hands tucked inside the pockets of his pants. “Did you get lost while going to the market? This is Gramp’s laboratory, though.”
The girl didn’t say a word. He always hated that about her.
Smirk quivering slightly, he observed her. It had been a while—months, was it? —since he saw her, let alone talk to her. His interests snatched him away from their time together. All children went through basic education before they reached 15, and as Green grew, a desire to prove his worth by becoming the greatest Pokémon trainer became his new life goal.
That meant shaking off a few distractions.
Even if that distraction was something he never realized he dearly missed.
Brown eyes kept their gaze. Her hair was now longer, brown strands cascaded down her back. A white bucket hat with red lines and a half-circle at the center was worn, making her look almost silly. A black singlet was worn inside, which was then covered by a blue sleeveless top.
Dark brown eyes lingered on her chest—only for a mere second—only to drop down at the red skirt that lightly swayed as she tapped her right foot.
He saw her foot shift. Green quickly looked at her.
Leaf only stood a few steps away, brown eyes observing the three Pokéballs on the table. Hands gripped the handle of her yellow satchel. Fingers nimbly toyed and twirled with the bag’s material. Not once did she return his gaze, for she knew, if she did, it would only bring a twinge of pain in her heart.
She kept her gaze on the still Pokéballs.
It didn’t take a genius to know why she was here.
His smirk finally broke. One hand curled to a fist by his side.
------------------------------
When he said her name, it was laced with venom.
“The fuck, Leaf…” Green eyes widened. Pupils shot to dots.
The victorious Charmander huffed and hopped back her way into Leaf’s arms. A smile broke out of her owner, only making the Charmander cry and coo in pride.
As the girl and Pokémon celebrated their first ever victory, one lone boy stood in horror before his fallen Squirtle.
   How…?
   How could he lose?
He had done his research in preparation of his journey. He had studied his darndest in order to achieve perfect understanding of what it’s like being a trainer. He had given all his focus in order to provide the best strategies for his future battles.
   So…how?
Without a word, he returned his starter. Right hand shook coldly, finger squeezing around the hard metal of the ball.
   “Good job, Leaf!”
The sound of his grandfather only made him cringe.
------------------------------
When he huffed her name, it sounded heavier than intended.
“Seriously, Leaf? You want to challenge the Indigo Plateau?” Arms crossed. Smirk curled to swirls. “With that stupid lizard?” An eyebrow raised as he looked at the growling Charmander behind her legs. What a silly little creature, to be hiding behind her trainer while flaring an air of faux confidence.
   He heard a scoff.
It didn’t come from the silly little creature.
Vision jolted back to her. Eyes now slightly widened to see her crossing her own arms. It was truly a sight to behold. Leaf wasn’t one to communicate with words. That was always Green’s job. But now that their…friendship had gone sour, the boy found it amusing that she was expressing more and more emotions as the years rolled by.
   Ba-dump!
The fingers on his arms clenched momentarily.
Shaking off the uneasiness in his chest, Green casually unclipped a Pokéball from his belt. “You’re way too early to be defeated by the Elite Four and Champion.” The ball was enlarged and positioned right in front of her. Memories of what happened in the laboratory resurfaced, and it only shook the smirk off his face.
He wouldn’t make the same mistake twice.
“You are however right on time to be defeated by me.”
------------------------------
When he called her name, it sounded as fake as the challenge on Nugget bridge.
“Hey, Leaf!” One hand waved once he saw a familiar face. He smiled lazily as Leaf met his gaze. “Catching up to me, aren’t cha?”
   Words were never met.
He got used to it, but it was annoying still.
“Well, I’m pretty sure in time, you’ll be right behind me.” The usually smirk graced his face. “Besides, wouldn’t want my dear rival to be left in the dust, right?”
A tiny frown twitched her mouth.
   Cute, he thought.
Suddenly, he heard a low growl. Green eyes looked down, right at the Charmeleon that hid behind her legs. Feeling absolutely unthreatened, the boy let out a scoff. “How about a friendly battle?” The adjective was emphasized, one ball unclipped from his belt. “I need to see whether or not you’ve trained your Pokémon carefully.”
The Charmeleon barked in response. Quietly, she looked at her trainer, eyes burned with passion to bring Green’s team down.
Leaf looked at her and gave her a single nod.
“Cinnamon!” Finally, her voice rang under the bright blue sky. Not needing to be repeated twice, the Charmeleon dashed forward and let out a fiery roar.
It’s been a while since he heard her voice.
Awe struck him momentarily before he swiftly regained his sense and threw Wartortle out.
------------------------------
When he called out her name, it was out of surprise.
“Bonjour, Leaf!” Arms spread to the side. A wide smile beamed on his face. Never in his life would he thought that his…rival would be in the SS Anne. The boy staggered cockily; mouth curled to swirls to see her prepare a battling stance.
   He found it cute.
“Didn’t know you got invited to the party.” He stopped a few steps away from her. “Or did you decide to crash? I mean, the party’s only for the best of the best, you know.”
Arceus, a part of her wanted to smack that mean smirk.
Instead, Leaf held one Pokéball. On the other hand, a piece of small paper was tucked between her fingers. A ticket was what was seen, and it was all the reply she gave with a face of indifference.
To see her reaction. To see her face.
   To remember her countless victories.
   He found them infuriating.
“Heh,” was all he responded. Knowing a battle was inevitable, he took Pidgeot’s ball.
   His gaze never left hers.
------------------------------
When he spoke her name, it was soft yet bitter.
“Ah, Leaf…” The smirk was back. “Never expected to see you in Pokémon Tower.” Hands tucked inside the pockets of his baggy pants, he walked towards her. As he did, eyes caught sight of a menacing Beedrill buzzing behind her. “Your Pokémon seem pretty alive, though.”
His voice was gentle given where they were, but it was clear enough to evoke an emotion out of her.
A disapproving frown curled on her face. The Beedrill behind her buzzed in agreement, one big stinger pointing and waving at the amused rival.
The sight was funny. He really did like looking at Leaf’s reactions.
------------------------------
When he shouted her name, it echoed madly inside the destroyed room.
   “Leaf!”
Without a word, she commanded her Charizard to unleash Flamethrower. It was a wonder that she didn’t need to voice out a single command. It seems that the bond between trainer and Pokémon were in sync from the moment she chose her as her starter.
Eyes burning with rage, Cinnamon unleased a fiery vortex that hit Nidoking right in the chest. The impact made the Drill Pokémon slide a few steps back. His bulky arms were then raised, though face twisted in pain as the burn crept through his skin.
Dark brown eyes met light browns.
With a single nod, Green knew what to do.
“Rhyhorn!” One hand stretched forward. “Drill Run!”
In a blink of an eye, the usually slow Pokémon stampeded towards his opponent. His horn started to collect and form dirt, intensely spiraling around it as it took shape of a much bigger horn. Taking advantage of Nidoking’s distraction, Rhyhorn slammed the purple beast and stabbed him right in the stomach.
Shocked and weakened, the Drill Pokémon felt his body being thrown wildly against the Silph Co. wall. Dust and dirt filled the area, inviting sounds of a coughing fit and filtering their clear vision.
“NO!” One lone man shouted in frustration.
Even though their sights were tampered, Green managed to sneak a glance at the girl fighting next to him.
Black pupils dilated to see such an expression on her face.
   Fearless. Determined. Confident.
   Unbelievably beautiful.
   Ba-dump…!
Amidst the dust and dirt, he truly felt like he couldn’t breathe.
------------------------------
When he said her name, it rhythmed with the manic beat of his heart.
“Isn’t this nostalgic, Leaf?” He raised one hand in the air. “The last time we were here, you thought you could beat the Elite Four and Champion with that pathetic fire lizard of yours.” Although said ‘stupid fire lizard’ was tucked inside her Pokéball, Green could see it shake in complete discontent. He held his smirk, eyes then focused on the one rival who managed to quake his pride.
Her hair was a bit longer now. Brown bangs covered parts of her eyes, making it even harder to disclose whatever emotion she was showing. The white bucket hat had seen better days, but it’s still obvious that Leaf cherished that piece of attire. Her hands gripped the handle of her yellow satchel. Some scars, old and new, decorated her once slim arms, showing everyone the pride and proof of her journey throughout Kanto.
   He then saw her eyes.
Brown eyes focused on the boy before her, jet black pupils dilated before his very presence. Her mouth was formed to a straight line. Her lower lip jutted—just the tiniest bit—before it was lightly nibbled by white teeth. Not once did she break her gaze, head slightly tilted instead to meet her rival who had pushed her to where she was now.
Green soon realized that he no longer faced the soft, shy little girl he was once so close to.
   He felt his breathing hitch.
“Well then…” Words were slow and accurate. “Let’s see which one of us is more ready to become Kanto’s new Champion.” Movements were precise and careful. He watched as she silently readied her own Pokémon. He watched as she threw the Pokeball up in the air.
Even amidst the rapid lightning strikes that suddenly filled the area, all Green could see was her.
------------------------------
When he called her name, he didn’t even realize that it echoed as a shout.
He sat, motionless on the throne. Only his hand that held his starter’s Pokémon moved. It circled quietly, following the gentle twist and turn of his wrist. Dark brown eyes observed the object, though gaze hollow and pupils dilated at something else entirely.
   Finally.
He deserved to be where he was at now. He deserved to sit on the Champion’s throne after defeating all the Elite Four and the previous Champion. He deserved to become Kanto’s strongest trainer after many years of studying and training.
He deserved to be the very best.
The corner of his eye twitched slightly at the memory of one girl whose brown hair swayed softly against the wind.
A mouth that had been still for the past hour finally quivered to a frown once he heard the big doors open.
His head was still lowered. The Pokéball in his hand finally stopped.
   Tap…tap…
   He knew this was it.
The same mouth slowly tickled a sneer.
Finally, he looked up. Right at the trainer who slowly approached him. Right at the rival who became the only obstacle of his dream.
Right at his old friend who kept haunting him in his sleep.
“Welcome, Leaf!” he shouted, body pushed upwards as he stood up straight. Dark brown eyes met lighter ones. A sight of fire and determination made him hold back a shiver.
   This was it.
“Surprised?” Tap, tap. The hollow sounds of his footsteps down the small stairs echoed every wall. “Bet you didn’t expect to see me rise to the top before you?”
   It was now or never.
The girl didn’t say a word. Her hat was still placed on her head. Those glorious brown eyes burned. Focused passionately on the rival before her. One hand had already held a Pokémon, fingers squeezing through the hard metal.
Pupils shrunk like tiny black dots. Leaf aimed the Pokéball right at Green.
------------------------------
Silence echoed hollowly after the final sound of a defeated roar.
Smoke and soot flew madly inside the battle room. Walls were broken and cracked. Lights from the ceiling flickered and faded. The room was dim. The room was quiet. One girl stood from the one end of the battlefield, legs shaking and breathing heavy. Her ears rang from the loud sounds and noises, but her breathing was now the loudest in her mind. She looked at the other end of the field, eyes ever focused.
   One boy stood perfectly still.
His back slumped, then straightened with a crack. Both arms spread slightly apart from his sides, fingers splaying and twitching in discomfort. Pale lips parted, yet words were void from its presence, instead scraped and twisted his throat from the constant screaming. Black pupils shrunk, swallowed by a sea of darker browns. His vision hazed. The images split. Amidst the smoke and rubble, under the dim light of the glorious room that was once his, all he saw was her.
One lone Pokémon stood in triumph. The other lay unconscious right in front of the stunned boy.
   The battle had been decided.
“W…Wha…” Finally, a single, broken word withered through trembled lips. The boy looked forward. Right at the victorious Charizard. Right at the silent rival.
Right at the new Champion of Kanto.
When he thought her name slipped through his lips, it never did.
------------------------------
When he called her name, he didn’t realize it came off as a shout.
“Are you…” He remembered the way she looked at the three Pokéballs in the lab. “…f-fucking…” He remembered the first time she defeated him in battle. “…kidding me…” He remembered the way she looked at him after stealing his ‘Champion’ title.
After that horrifying and humiliating defeat, Green came back to the league a few weeks later to issue a rematch. He couldn’t bear to have this loss. He couldn’t bear to have his dreams stolen. He couldn’t bear to have his pride crushed.
But just when he defeated the final elite four. Just when he was about to stampede his way to the Champion’s room—
“Leaf isn’t here. She isn’t the Champion.”
Green swore those words rang painfully the moment it slammed into his eardrums.
When he finally found her—a few distances away from Pallet Town—Green felt the ground shake beneath him.
“Don’t…” Fists shook by his sides. “…f-fucking…” Teeth gritted tightly until jaw strained. “…screw with me—” Finally, he looked up, eyes widened and glare sharp as they pierced through her very presence.
Warm brown eyes only met such a vicious gaze.
   Snap.
“LEAF!” He didn’t know why her name burst towards the dim, cloudy sky. “What the FUCK?!” He didn’t realize his feet had stomped forward. “Why did you reject the Champion title?” Tap! “Why did you back down without saying anything?” Tap, tap! “Why—?!”
He didn’t know when he started grasping her shoulders in a rough manner.
A flinch. And yet he couldn’t see it.
“Why did you even pursue this journey in the first place?!” Darker eyes were wide. Mad. “The only thing that matters is the Champion title, and you went and fucking threw it away! Why did you even bother training and catching up to me and—” His grip tightened. “—BEATING me if you decided to just fuck off and throw away the one thing I WANT!!”
   Slap!
Anger was a dangerous fire that could burn a person of their rationality. Jealousy was a wicked spark that could jolt an entire person’s body to do an action they never realized.
And when these two emotions fused together, it could only cause nothing but pain.
As these two emotions fueled the boy, so did the girl.
Bafflement enveloped Green perfectly still. His hands released his tight grip, fingers now twitching and arms apart from shaking shoulders. His head, now turned to the right, remained still as mouth parted a silent gasp.
Carefully, silently, shrunk pupils slid to her.
Her right hand shook, palm throbbed lightly. Eyes that once glimmered with mysterious curiosity now bore daggers in each blink. Her whole body trembled. Her pink lips quivered. Tears rolled down flushed cheeks, dripping down from her chin, down to the sole of her shoe.
His eyes merely followed the trail of clear teardrops.
   “Hah…”
Parted lips, pale and dry, finally resonated a sound.
“Fuck off…” Slowly, he turned his head towards her. “Just…fuck off…” In all the years of their frustrating friendship, not once had Green witnessed such fury. Leaf was known to be a girl of mystery. Her expression was stoic at best and cold at worst. Words were always absent, and Green used to be her literal voice whenever they stuck side by side as little kids. Even the sight of a smile was deemed a rarity for those who weren’t her parents or him.
   But now.
Now. Her smile was gone. Merely replaced with a quivering frown that had his heart drop to the deepest pits of his stomach.
As he saw himself in the glistening gleam of her eyes, he soon realized it.
   This was his doing.
The anger was back. Boiling his throat until nausea rolled into swirls. “Don’t ever show yourself to me again.” The words were slurred one by one. His head lowered. His fists tightened. “I don’t ever—want to see you again—” His breathing hitched, seethed through flared nostrils.
Finally—for the last time—he looked up.
Anger and jealousy were a mixture that could cloud a person of their reasoning. They were dangerous. Volatile. One single mistake could cause a fatal result that could scar a person for good.
   In Green’s case…
   Drip…drip…
The sight of her tears was all he remembered before Leaf turned her heel and ran off.
------------------------------
When he thought of her, her name was a cloud that rained on his mind.
Days rolled to months. Months rolled to years. Life had become normal for them. One pursued their dreams of chasing what fuels their passion. Another fixed their dreams that was once shattered by their despicable rival.
The other never gave up. He trained to be the very best. While never leaving his hometown, he pursued his studies and continued rebuilding his team to reclaim his glory. After enough efforts, after enough credentials, Green finally earned the role of a gym leader, specifically the one in Viridian City. He guessed it was his luck that the previous gym leader had mysteriously disappeared.
He worked hard. He worked tirelessly. Even though the ‘leader’ title was now in his grasp, not once did he decide to stop. Given his choice not to use a mono-type, it made his undefeatable reputation all the more amazing as no trainer has yet to defeat him.
He should be happy at this outcome. He was happy at this outcome.
But when his shift was over. When it was time to close the gym. When it was time to hop onto his Pidgeot and fly home.
When he entered the empty house and stood by the doorway, it was then that Green remembered something he wished to forget.
His sister had long moved out, happily pursuing her dreams as well in Saffron City. After ensuring her that he was more than fine to feed for himself and take care of their house, Daisy decided to further work her dream job far away from their hometown. Green didn’t take it personally. His sister had taken care of the place in his long absence, after all. Even when their grandfather’s laboratory was in the resident, the old man was never in one place especially after he received more job collaborations in Johto.
It was just him and his Pokémon most of the time.
And when Green plopped down onto his bed, he woefully remembered that it was just him.
Brown eyes dulled due to the lack of light in the room. The moon shone brightly, light pouring through the window next to his bed. Back on the soft mattress and arms spread apart, Green only stared at the ceiling as he let his mind wander.
Leaf— He immediately realized it was a mistake.
A flinch and a quick blink. In a state of shock, he immediately sat up straight. Head then dropped to one hand, forehead and eyes covered by a shaking palm.
The action only made it worse.
   He still remembered.
He remembered her bright brown eyes whenever he talked about something exciting. He remembered her quiet laugh whenever he made a silly remark about his grandfather’s antics. He remembered holding her small hand as they walked around their hometown. He remembered their pinky fingers intertwined as they made a promise to always be best friends forever.
He remembered her trembled frown when he ignored her. He remembered her fumbling fingers whenever she tried to talk to him. He remembered her eyes, glistened as they held back tears when Green denied her just so he could focus on his interests.
He remembered the icy fire in her eyes when they initiated their first battle. He remembered her soft, melodious voice when she gave a sigh to whatever bullshit comment he gave her. He remembered the raging fire that burned brilliantly when he fought alongside her.
He remembered her pursed frown when she stole his ‘Champion’ title.
   Drip…drip…
He remembered tears, crystal and clear, staining such beautiful brown eyes that twisted his insides into knots.
“Fuck…” A harsh breath hissed through gritted teeth. He lowered his back, face now covered by both palms.
   He hated nights like this.
------------------------------
When he heard her name from someone else, Green felt his breath had been robbed immediately.
“Yay!” The girl jumped in joy while her Typhlosion huffed in cocky pride. Green only stifled a chuckle to see such arrogance in the starter; the sight almost reminded him of himself.
With a slow shake of his head, he returned his fallen Exeggutor. “Looks like someone got a little stronger.” Ball shrunk and clipped onto the belt of his pants. Green walked towards the victor. “Keep this up or else I’d steal that thunder from you.” Oh, how he wanted to laugh to see the girl jut her tongue out playfully.
“Try me,” she laughed, one hand giving her starter congratulatory pats. “Though, you’re not wrong about me keeping up. You’re super strong.”
Whether or not she was being honest, Green took the compliment with pride. “Oh?” Arms crossed against a puffed chest. Green cocked his head. “Please, do continue.” A wide smirk curled the corner of his mouth.
However, that smirk vanished in a blink when Kotone did continue, “Yeah. Not just you, but a super strong trainer called Leaf was also amazing when I battled her.”
   Pupils shrunk. Mouth gaped.
Unaware of his reaction, Kotone smiled warmly as she gave scratches under her Typhlosion’s chin. “When I battled her last week, I almost actually lost if not for the quick thinking and maybe some luck. Still though, I’ve never faced such a fierce battle and I have a rival who’s just ruthless—”
   “W-Where…”
His voice. Stuttered and shaken. Actually ceased her from continuing.
Surprised by the tone, Kotone finally looked at the taller man. Hazel eyes widened to see such an expression.
His eyes were wider. His lips were parted. Arms were no longer crossed, instead positioned awkwardly by his sides. Though the AC was blasted inside the dojo, sweat started to trickle down the sides of his face.
   “Where…” He repeated. “…did you…” He wheezed. “…see her…?”
------------------------------
The air on Mt Silver was extra colder than usual.
Warm air puffed to thick mittens. Though the action was pretty useless, Leaf found it amusing that she still did it again. She then felt a nuzzle. Brown eyes looked to the side, iris gleaming to see Cinnamon lightly bumping her shoulder.
The Charizard brought her tail closer to Leaf. Purrs echoing inside the hollow cave, Cinnamon curled closer and placed her chin on top of Leaf’s lap.
To see such a sight brought a giddy giggle in her chest.
   “Thank you, Cinn—”
   “Leaf…”
The warmth that she felt a few seconds ago now felt icy cold to the bone.
   The voice was faint. Shaking.
She thought it to be a hallucination. After all, it was his wish for her to never appear before him ever again. She merely granted it for him.
The sound of her growling Charizard only confirmed her suspicion. Without a word, Leaf turned her head towards the entrance of the cave.
   There he was.
   Standing. Existing. Appearing before her.
Leaf didn’t realize when she started standing up in a stumble. The breeze in the mountain was getting colder, but her body was denied of warmth when her heart had laid its focus on the very person who haunted her dreams. Eyes, though often clouded with apathy, were now glowing in shock as she saw him.
The man walked inside the cave. Closer. Slower.
   She was here.
   She was here.
Even when the sound of heavy growling echoed inside the cave, all Green saw, all Green focused on, was her.
   His rival. His childhood friend.
His reason for a broken heart.
“Leaf…” When he spoke her name, “…there you are…” it was accompanied with a shattered smile.
------------------------------
When he said her name, it was filled with hope.
Years had passed by a breeze just like the unforgiving air in Mt Silver, yet not once did Leaf think that the place was uninhabitable. She often found herself going back there when she wanted to clear her mind. When she wasn’t travelling around the Kanto and Johto regions, the woman would seek refuge in the cold breeze on top of the dangerous mountaintop. It both amazed and annoyed Green, who would always visit her every now and then in hopes of fixing their broken friendship.
He learned that the woman as quite quirky despite her apathetical look. He found that endearing.
Thinking back on their reunion a few years ago, Leaf could never forget Green who had kneeled on the ground and sought for her forgiveness. In truth, she still couldn’t believe it to this day even. Leaf remembered panicking and waving her cold arms to make him get on his feet. She also remembered Cinnamon hovering literally right above the kneeling man and making the situation worse.
Of course, she forgave him. She did miss her childhood friend, after all.
However, once she did, Leaf soon realized that Green had changed—whether it was for the better or the worst, she hadn’t decided yet.
Green would often visit. He would often bring food—home-cooked ones—for her. Thanks to the man convincing her to get a Pokégear, Leaf was able to keep contact with not just him, but also with the young trainer who had defeated her.
She found out that while she rarely spoke, she was quite expressive in using emojis in texts.
Maybe Kotone’s ecstatic typing skills rubbed off on her.
But most of all, she soon realized that Green was much more vocal around her. When he visited, they would share stories of their daily lives. Oftentimes, it was Green proudly boasting his victories as a gym leader while Leaf quietly listened in amazement. Leaf was also bold in sharing her achievements too, though it’s more on her Pokédex completion and her bumping into wild Pokémon in her journeys.
Apparently, Leaf told him that she had met the three legendary Kantonian birds. Green was surprised that he wasn’t surprised at this information.
The two kept meeting. At first, it was every day. As months flew by, it became every few days. And now, as the years reached them, it had become a habit to see each other at least once a week. And when they did, both found bliss in sharing whatever was in their train of thought.
It was as if they were reverting back their old selves when they were young.
It was everything Leaf ever asked for.
However, a part of Green—a deeper part of him—subconsciously asked for more.
So, when the opportunity rose, Green snatched it in a heartbeat.
   “Come to Alola with me.”
Like Leaf, Green was shocked himself at the request he made. “I mean—” A small sense of panic hitched between his words. “Apparently, I got an offer from the Alolan Battling Community yesterday that they’re building a Battling Tree over there. Remember how you and I were both Champions when we were 16?”
The memory was a bitter memory for both, but a part of him mentally sighed in relief to see her nod.
“Well, our little situation is very famous that it’s talked about in other regions too. So, they offered us a job to be battle legends in their facility.” He handed out the letter, brown eyes silently observed as she took and read the contents. “It’s not a permanent job per say but the contract is about a year and we can renew it if we’re interested.” Hands hid under the desk as fingers curled and twitched. “Honestly, I think this is a great opportunity. You told me that you wanted to see more Pokémon, right?”
A smirk tickled his cheek to see her head perk at the chance.
“I’d say a new region will definitely have new Pokémon. Besides, with this—” One hand tapped the letter, “we can join forces and show them just how formidable we both are.” Excitement of the possibilities took over. Sitting up straight, Green raised his right hand to the far right side of his forehead, curled his pinky and ring finger, stretched his middle and index fingers and thumb, and did his signature pose that had already become a habit. “Let’s make our names in Alola as the most indestructible Kanto Champions!”
Silence lingered in the living room.
Upon realizing that he was making a fool of himself, Green quickly lowered his arm and looked away. A curse silently echoed in his mind to feel heat burning his cheeks. While Leaf wasn’t actually laughing—if anything, she was merely staring—it simply didn’t help calm the rapid heartbeat inside his chest.
   A deep breath was taken.
Once again, he looked at her.
   Ba-dump!
“So…” He kept his gaze on her. He must. “Leaf…” One hand reached forward. Fingers outstretched. As eyes focused on such mesmerizing browns, Green could feel his hand moving towards her wrist.
The hand hovered, then instead placed on her left shoulder.
   “Come to Alola with me.”
Cheeks were still hot. Eyes started to spiral the more he looked into the pools of browns that long squeezed his manic heart.
   Seconds felt like hours.
   Finally, a nod was given.
To see her smile. To see such a radiant shade of red in her cheeks. To see her agreement.
Green was proud of himself for not pulling her for a hug.
------------------------------
When Green shouted out her name, it was usually due to their glorious victories.
There was a reason as to why they received a favoured reputation back in Kanto. While Green was known to be the most popular and strongest gym leader in Kanto (speaking of, the role was now taken over by a representative since he’s away), Leaf was a mystery that people sought to know and learn. To know that the emotionless woman was the one who dethroned the previous champion who had taken the role in less than an hour, it wasn’t a surprise that she reached a certain fame and inspiration from trainers worldwide.
Green was equally proud and equally bitter still about the situation.
But he’s an adult now. He could act his age.
Now, as they claimed another victory in a double battle, pride only washed over the young man. “We did it, Leaf!” He raised his fist, punching the air a few times as his Blastoise’s roar echoed the bright blue sky. Suddenly, Green felt a soft tap on his shoulder. Head turned to the right. A single eyebrow raised in question.
Both eyebrows then raised once he saw her palm right in front of him.
She didn’t say a word. She never usually did.
But to see excitement bursting in a pair of wide brown eyes. To see a small smile tickle the corners of her mouth. To see her hand positioned right before him, silently waiting for a response.
She didn’t say much, and Green found himself giddy that he could still understand her.
Smirk softened to a joyful smile. He gave his rival partner a triumphant high-five.
------------------------------
When he muttered her name, Green almost felt breathless.
“Dude, where are you?” He looked around, eyes scanning the area for his rival. A lazy puff of air escaped his mouth, and a tiny annoyed frown followed suit. “Seriously, the moment I said that there’s a rare Pokémon in the field, you just ran off.” In a sense, Green laughed a little at their changed roles. Once upon a time when they were kids, Green had shown more interest in Pokémon way before she ever did. Not to say that he wasn’t; he still dabbled in the field as part of his studies and career. But in Leaf’s case, she was more interested in learning about the many species while still having the same team she had since they were teens—and that team was deemed absolutely…though not absolutely since she was finally defeated by the pigtailed girl—indestructible.
He guessed it made sense that her Pokémon could understand her even without her saying anything; they were the longest with her in their journeys, after all.
   Crack.
Teeth gritted momentarily at the ache in his chest.
“Leaf, where are you?” he called out again, now somewhat irritated at the memory and her brief absence. Finally, Green spotted her back along with her Persian who was now rolling on his back by her side. That irritation didn’t last long, but he did hold the intention to nag at her for being off without telling him.
“Leaf, there you are.” A sigh escaped. Hands inside the pockets of his pants, Green walked towards her. “I’ve been looking all over for you. I know you don’t like to talk much, but at least inform me where you’ll…” He watched as she turned around. “…run…off…”
There she was, holding a Dedenne in her arms, nuzzling the Pokémon as a smile rivalled even the brightest sun above.
Her cheeks warmed lovingly under the Alolan sunlight. Her usual sunhat was absent, and this let such long brown locks flutter softly along the gentle breeze. Red lips curled such a breathtaking smile, and this smile only broke out a sweet laugh when the Antenna Pokémon lightly kissed her cheek.
To see such a sight. It stunned Green on the spot.
Unaware of the whirlwind of emotions she was doing to him, Leaf looked at him. The Dedenne was placed close to her right cheek, big brown eyes blinking excitingly at the dashing young man before her.
Isn’t she cute? was what he could clearly interpret.
Ba-dump! was what he could clearly hear.
“Leaf—I…” Her name died on parted lips. The name was faint. Almost unintelligible. As if the name was just a mere pant that spiraled right out of his chest, Green held another breath. Hands inside his pockets turned to fists, nails pinching and poking the skin of his palms.
He saw her. He saw only her.
“Mm,” was all he replied, lips pursed. “Very cute.”
------------------------------
When she whispered his name, Green felt his whole world had stopped.
When it comes to Leaf, Green had learned and relearned many things about her. He knew she was mostly silent. Adding the fact that she wasn’t an expressive person to begin with really made human interactions hard on her. However, Green was surprised—and proud—that he was able to read her like a book. The man didn’t know when or how, but he assumed them being friends since they were little kids made him easier to decipher and interpret whatever thought that currently occupied Leaf. The smallest of smiles or faintest of hums was more than enough to understand what she was trying to convey.
That being said, to wish to hear his name being uttered from her. From her calming melodious voice. From a pair of those luscious lips. It was the one thing that the man desired. The one thing that he never realized just how impactful it would cause on him when she did.
Also, another thing: Leaf was an adventurous woman. It just didn’t register to him just how adventurous she was.
So, when she managed to convince him to go find a Pokémon that resembled a Pikachu, Green was obviously curious as well.
It was the location that made his curiosity die down a little bit.
He didn’t peg himself to be a scaredy-cat. He was as brave as one standard trainer could get. He had faced many terrifying Pokémon. He had braved through countless steep hills. Scars and bruises stamped his body as proof of both his careful and reckless decisions. Green wasn’t one to scare easily.
But to walk inside an abandoned grocery store at the dead of midnight, that was probably the one thing he needed to draw the line on.
In truth, he was surprised—and quite miffed—that she still managed to rope him.
Damn her and her doe eyes.
Carefully they walked around the area. Lights from their Pokégears were barely enough to light the dark place, but it was enough for both trainers to navigate their way towards their target. Green walked carefully, his shoes making one or two squeaking noises that alerted him way more than he wanted to.
The woman beside him walked even quieter. Her steps—like her—didn’t utter a single sound as if she was a ghost herself.
Green shivered and cursed mentally at that unneeded thought.
   Creaaak…
The sound made them stop immediately.
Green wanted to speak. Or maybe to scream. He almost looked to the side and wanted to reassure himself at her presence rather than whatever that may have popped right in front of them.
However, just as fear was supposed to take root, shock instead dug its claws deep.
He felt his left arm being held tightly. He felt something soft and warm being squeezed, snuggling right against his arm. And his hand. His hand was swiftly grasped in a tight, firm manner. Soft fingers were squeezed by softer ones. He felt her tremble slightly, and Green had his own breathing hitch as he felt her face pressing roughly against his shoulder.
   “Green…”
Amidst the deep darkness, his pupils dilated.
To hear his name. To hear her voice.
To hear her sweet, sweet, sweet voice…
Green shivered. And it wasn’t out of fear.
------------------------------
Since that night, since the moment his name was whispered in a way that robbed him of his breathing, it was then that Green realized one thing that he had chosen to ignore for a long, long time: His feelings for Leaf.
Because every time he said her name, Green felt his stomach twist into knots.
No. Face was covered by trembling hands. No, no, no! He thought he had grown wiser. He thought he had grown smarter. He shouldn’t feel bitter. He shouldn’t feel distraught. What’s past is past, they said. Yes, it was her fault for stealing his dreams from him. Yes, it was her fault for crushing that dream into dust right before his very eyes. Yes, it was his fault for ignoring her in the course of their childhood and breaking the promise of their forever friendship.
Yes, it was his fault for making her sad and scared at the evening of their final encounter.
But he was a kid back then. He didn’t know any better.
What he did know that seeing her—thinking about her—only caused him to be breathless and his mind to be rattled.
He wasn’t an idiot back then. He knew what those feelings were.
That’s why he never bothered to look for her. That’s why he stopped himself from making an absolute fool. That’s why he made himself busy, both in studies and in battles, just so he could ignore the dreaded guilt that wrapped his very neck. Just so he could ignore his traitorous heart that yearned for her touch. As the years passed by, Green let his past haunt him if it meant punishment for the pain he had caused her.
He needed to get away from her. He needed time to think and reevaluate what she truly meant to him. If, Green thought, that they kept a reasonable amount of distance from each other, his feelings for her would be nothing more than teen angst. He should have moved on. He should have gotten over her.
However, when news of her whereabouts spilled into his ears, Green didn’t think twice to even go to her.
   He missed her. So much.
The night he finally saw her again at Mt Silver, Green felt stupid for having tears in his eyes.
Leaf… His heartbeat raced. Leaf…Leaf… His back bowed. Leaf, Leaf, Leaf, Leaf, Leaf, Leaf, Leaf, Leaf, Leaf, Leaf, Leaf, Leaf—! One wide eye glared holes between parted fingers. No, no. What the fuck am I doing?! She forgave me. She had no right to forgive me but she did. I’m her friend now. We’re friends again now—!
Pupils shrunk to dots at the memory of her voluptuous chest pressed against his arm.
Blood rushed madly up to his brain, then stormed straight to his twitching cock.
Fuck! Fingers curled onto a sweaty face. Fuck!
------------------------------
When Green told Leaf that he didn’t want to continue the contract, he didn’t expect her to argue back.
He looked away, ignoring the shock her widened gaze was giving him. Ignoring the silent gasp that lay her mouth agape.
   She wanted a reason.
“It’s just…you know.” His gaze was still averted. “We’ve been doing this for almost a year. It’s great and all. But I did say the contract wasn’t permanent and we have the choice to continue it.”
   And you’re not continuing it?
He heard her. She didn’t need to say anything and he heard her.
A harrowing expression gloomed over his face. Teeth gritted hardly inside pursed lips. “I’m sure your National Dex is filling up fast and you want to explore other regions, right?” His voice was steady. “We’ve had our fun but I think it’s time you find other places to challenge yourself. Besides, I know you’ve been itching to travel again.” His voice needed to be steady.
Silence once again lingered in his bedroom of their shared house. As much as he didn’t want her to be in his room—the fact that they were staying under one roof was unbearable enough—the woman was persistent and actually barged in before he could close the door.
He hadn’t turned his head, yet a glance was given to see Leaf actually pondering on the thought.
Finally, a solemn smile was shown.
A nod was given next. Warm brown eyes looked up, looked right at him. As much as it saddened her that this would be the last time they battled as Battle Leaders, Leaf knew Green had a point in his argument.
However, she misunderstood one teeny-tiny part of his reasoning.
He saw this clear as day.
   “I’m going back to Kanto.”
Fists curled tightly by his side to once again see bafflement in her eyes.
“I…” Head finally turned, though eyes now cast downwards. “Gym leader duties. I’ve been away for so long.” The echo of his heartbeat was loud. Too loud. “I need to go back to Kanto. You should go.” Out to other regions. Out of his room.
   Out of his heart.
   “W…Why…”
Her voice was so faint. So meek. Yet it was enough to finally draw his gaze right to her.
A constricted gasp clogged his throat to see tears in his eyes.
Leaf didn’t say anything else. Instead, with one arm furiously wiping such hot tears, she turned her heel and walked.
   Not out the door.
   But towards his bed.
The gasp turned to a wheeze as it now choked his very lungs.
“W-What…” The frail confidence that marionetted his every word was snipped of its strings. “…are you doing…?”
Plop! The woman sat in the middle of the bed. Legs crossed. Arms crossed as well. Though eyes were filled with treacherous tears, Leaf blinked them away before looking up with a frown.
She wasn’t about to leave him again.
He saw this. He knew this.
And because of that, he was horrified.
“Leaf.” Her name was uttered in a strained breath. “Leave.”
   A shake of her head.
   “Leave.” Please. “Leave.”
   A huff of her chest.
His breathing grew heavy. His heart grew frantic.
Tap…tap… “Pl-ease…” The single plea was broken pathetically. “Leave.” He walked towards the bed. Towards her.
Wide eyes stared as she took a deep breath. Dotted pupils observed as her chest was pushed against crossed arms. His mind grew hazy. His stomach rolled madly. Like a puppet, his feet dragged himself forward.
   Tap… Closer. Tap… Closer.
   She refused to move.
He stood by the foot of the bed. His dead stare never left hers.
   He needed to leave.
   “Leaf.” He needed to leave.
Mistaking his glare for something else entirely and engulfed by her own rage, Leaf quickly hopped to her knees and grasped his shoulders.
“Why—” Tears betrayed her as they trailed down flushed cheeks, “—are you pushing me away again?!”
   Snap.
   Neither knew what happened next.
   It was fast. Too fast.
One second, she was on her knees, holding her rival’s shoulders and hoping to shake some senses into him.
The next, she was now lying on her back, her wrists gripped and raised above her head while pink lips were being kissed by the one man who had broken her heart once.
------------------------------
When he apologized, her name was exhaled in a weak whimper.
“I’m sorry, Leaf…” The apology was but a mere breath, and Green immediately pressed his lips to hers again. Hands firm on her delicate shoulders, the man pressed his knees on either side of her hips. Brown hair a mess and in disarray, he licked a stripe across her lower lip.
Out of shock and body shivered at the reaction, Leaf parted her lips.
With a sharp breath, Green pressed his kiss deeper.
His tongue pierced into her mouth, seeking for her own and tangling around in swirls. His head tilted slightly, mind growing dizzy at the taste—at her taste. He licked upwards, tickling her tongue before hungrily prodding it out.
This is it. he thought. We’re over. Their friendship. Their rivalry. Their bond. All the things they went through. All the memories they’ve made. All that Green fought and held back. All that Leaf believed and kept. He decided to throw it all away just so he could feed his sick, twisted desire. Leaf would hate him. Leaf would despise him. As much as it killed him, Green had no one to blame but himself—
He flinched when he felt her mouth pressed harder.
The action actually snapped him back to reality—even for a moment. Dark brown eyes were swallowed by dilated pupils. Green pulled back, mouth parted and panting as he gaped at the woman below him.
Her pupils were just as blown. Her cheeks were just as flushed.
Her hands that were on his shoulders moved on the sides of his neck. Slim fingers traced up the back of his neck, sending delicate shivers that caused him to gulp down a pathetic whimper. Pink, wet lips stayed apart, breathing hot and heavy as it caressed his warm face. Not once did she look away. Not once did she turn away. Leaf kept her gaze on him, words faint as ever through mouth but loud as they could be through such gentle, brown eyes.
He needed to focus. He needed to reassure.
Because when he saw her expression, he knew damn well what it meant: Leaf wanted this as well.
------------------------------
“Leaf…” When he whispered her name, “punch me and kick me,” his lips hovered on the right side of her neck, “and run away immediately. Please…” And with that, he nipped her skin and sucked—hard and long—on a delicate spot on her neck.
Lying on her back, Leaf shivered at the ticklish sensation. Her eyes squeezed shut, tears barely forming on the corners of her eyes. Face as hot as her Charizard’s flames, she lifted her head slightly. The action only made him plant another nip on her skin. The action only made her cause another shiver.
Distracted, Leaf then snapped her eyes open at the feel of a rough hand slipping inside her shirt.
She felt the hand caress her stomach, palms sliding up, up until it reached her left breast.
Point and middle fingers parted to a V, squeezing and pressed into the plump skin he had dreamed so much to hold. The same fingers brushed her areola, fingertips circled on it without ever touching the neglected nipple.
His mouth shook a smile when he felt her shuffle.
Popping away from her neck, Green lightly nibbled her earlobe. The other hand curled to a fist, nails digging into soft sheet when he heard a stifled moan. “Do you want me…?” The question was faint. A whisper. “Tell me you want me, Leaf…” He licked the shell of her ear, giving her another shiver and an arch of her hips.
Feeling this, he pressed his hips onto hers.
Another moan slithered out of her to feel something hard pressed against her crotch.
“Leaf…” His breathing remained heavy. “Leaf…” His thoughts remained hazy.
Pulling away, Green slipped his hand out.
Before she could register the absence and be disappointed, Leaf instead let out a short gasp to see and feel Green tugging her shirt upwards. The shock kept her still, but her rival easily slipped the big shirt off of her and threw it to the side of the bed. A sudden chill pricked her skin, and Leaf wanted nothing more to huddle inside a sheet and preferably hide her shame from the man above.
However, she then saw his face.
   Hot. Heated. Handsome.
“Leaf…” was all that came out. “Leaf…” Blown pupils seeing nothing but her, Green leaned forward. His lips then caught hers in a quick peck. Hands holding her arms, he trailed such hungry lips downwards.
To the light red marks on her neck. To the soft skin of her collarbone. To the warm spot of her rapidly beating chest.
And finally, finally, to the stiff peak of her brown nipple.
A tongue jutted out, licking up and down. He felt her body arch again, and Green held her in place as he traced little circles on the delicious teat. The other hand reached for her right breast, pressing and squeezing the soft mound. Trying to balance the pleasure on her chest, Green flicked her left nipple and lightly pinched her right.
Head clouded with lust, Leaf only breathed out whimpers and frail squeaks. One hand cupped her panting mouth while the other slid through the bushy strands of his brown hair.
Just when she thought he had calmed down, he proved her wrong.
Mind overriding with desire, Green took her right nipple into his mouth. Without so much a warning, he sucked the teat. Tongue circled around it in a feverish speed, teeth then softly, gently, gingerly nibbled the delicious meat. His left hand pinched and pulled her right nipple, making it stiffer and wetter as he slathered the remaining saliva on her breast.
She tasted so delicious. So delicious.
Mouth and hand busy giving their attention to her chest, Green pressed his aching cock against her crotch. The pieces of clothing were starting to frustrate him, but Green continued his focus as he grinded slowly against her.
Despite the thin barriers between them, he felt something soaking his pants. And he knew it wasn’t just his precum.
------------------------------
When he slurred her name, he looked as if he was in a trance.
“Fuck, Leaf…” Glazed eyes looked at the women under him. “You’re so fucking wet…”
His rival didn’t say anything, instead panting and biting back more embarrassing moans.
Taking it as a challenge, Green curled the two fingers inside of her. A stunning smirk curled swirls on his face. “That’s it, baby…” In and out he pumped his fingers. “Feels good right?” Pulling back slightly, his thumb tapped and rolled on her hard clit. “You want this right?”
He never expected her to respond.
And most of all, he never expected her to respond it with an erratic nod.
“Fuck…!” Smirk melted to a foolish gape; Green parted his ring and middle fingers. His cock twitched every time she arched, and the sight only drove his sanity out at every moan. Leaning towards her, Green raised one arm and positioned it above her head. “You really want this, huh?” Glossy eyes looked at the love of his life. The same hand above her head petted her hair, fingers lacing through long, soft strands. “You really, really want me, Leaf?” In and out and in and out his fingers pumped. Wet walls clenched around slender fingers, quietly answering his question which only made his mind even more delirious.
Her eyes met his, glistening and clouded. Her responses were in echoes of whimpers and moans, but they were more than enough to let her dear rival know that he was doing enough.
And yet, they both wanted more.
Those beautiful eyes only widened once she felt the curled fingers scraped upwards.
“Gr—” The name choked on her throat, Leaf arched and wiggled when he thrusted faster. The moving digits only made her walls tighter. His quick wrist and curled fingers only made her moans louder.
He could never forget such a sight.
“Cum for me, baby.” His voice was even. His sight never left her. “Come on… Show me your face—” His fingers plunged deeper. The heel of his hand rubbed and nudged—again, again, again! —on her soaked clit, “—as you cum…!”
For once in his life, Green heard the beautiful ringing of her scream.
All Leaf saw was white and sparks. Her head tilted upwards, eyes rolling as if they could almost roll all the way to the back. She didn’t realize her feet were planted on the mattress. She didn’t realize her back continued to tremble as she continued to chase her ecstasy.
   Plop.
Lying limply on the soft bed, Leaf closed her eyes and tried to even her breathing. Her heart raced and banged against her chest. Both hands sprawled on the messy bedsheet. Though she was a trainer famous for her stoic expression, bright burn red kissed her face even though the AC in the room was blasted as its coldest temperature.
   Slurp.
The sound intensified among the hazy silence. It actually rid Leaf of her calmness. And when she opened her eyes to see the source of the sound, her vain sense serenity only sizzled into a crisp.
Pink tongue licking one middle finger upwards, Green flashed a devilish smirk. “Yes?”
------------------------------
As much as Green loved her voice, he decided to shut her up with his mouth when he entered her.
Because if he didn’t do that, the room would instead be filled with echoes of his embarrassing moans.
None moved a muscle. One stayed perfectly still while the other shivered weakly beneath him. His arms pressed deeply into the mattress and positioned on either side of her head. His head laid on the left side of her neck, lips peppered feather-like kisses as silent apologies of the brief, sharp pain he had inflicted upon her.
Meanwhile, the woman under him took deep breaths, little tears trickling down the sides of her head. Heat flushed from cheeks to the tips of her ears. While body had stiffened momentarily from the piercing pain, it started to lessen as each manic heartbeat went by. Graceful hands gripped his shoulders, skin bare and hot that gave her a sense of warm ease. Her legs remained lifted; the sides pressed against his hips as a quiet order to refuse him from moving any deeper.
   “Leaf…”
Just as pain began to disappear, pleasure started to flow.
Her eyes were squeezed shut, yet Leaf easily let her lips slant perfectly against his. Chu… His kiss sent her heart ablaze. Chu… Chup… Chu… His kisses caused her core to flutter around his throbbing cock. Hands slid from shoulders to face, shaking palms squishing his beet red cheeks. Warm air caressed each other’s faces. Tongues met in the middle, curling and twisting as moans slithered in the mix.
   Pop. He pulled back.
Brown eyes met a pair of softer browns.
“Can I move?” The ask was soft. Gentle. “Please…? He nuzzled a spot under her chin, voice meek like a man pathetically begging for mercy. “Please…”
Her words were void. A nod was given.
That was all the consent he needed.
Slowly, he pulled out. The head of his cock stayed inside. Arms switched to palms. Green pulled himself up to get a good look of the one person who had been stirring his heart since the day they met.
Dark brown eyes were only swallowed by dilated pupils as he pushed slower.
   In…out…
He watched as Leaf exhaled shaky whimpers and whines.
   In…out…
He watched as Leaf braved herself and met his hungry gaze.
   In—
He watched as Leaf licked her wet, plush lips, eyes wide and hazy as irises were swirled in wanton desire.
   Thump—!
   And watched…
   Schlip—!
   And watched…
   Schlip—!
As he moved faster—and faster—and faster!
“Arceus—Leaf!” His back straightened slightly; hands moved until he gripped onto her waist. “You feel so fucking good…!” Again and again and again he moved inside her. Though a condom was worn, Green felt his brain turn to mush to feel her wet walls cling and grip onto him. He wondered what it would be like if he wasn’t wearing such a bothersome thing. He wondered what it would be like to feel her soaking pussy covering every single curve of his straining cock. He wondered what it would be like to cum deep inside her, filling her womb and seeing a bump on her stomach that showed everyone whom she belongs to—
Suddenly, he felt her legs quake and her body tremble.
“Leaf…!” Her actions and his raging thoughts completely fracturing his rationality, Green felt himself reaching the end as well. Hands rough on her hips, he pulled her as deep as he could and came.
As if reading his mind, Leaf wrapped her wobbling legs around him, refusing to let the man go even though he never had the intention to.
Feeling his energy drain from the high, Green softly plopped his body onto her. His body shook slightly at a chuckle to hear a soft ‘oof’ from underneath. Arms back to positioning on either side of her head, Green lifted himself up and looked at the woman who had long stolen his heart.
Such eyes captivated him. He could never live without seeing such a sight ever again.
“Leaf…” When he whispered her name, “don’t ever leave me again…” it was accompanied with a long, deep kiss.
His cheeks felt wet. He never did realize it.
------------------------------
When her name popped up the second he woke up, guilt overwhelmed him until he wasn’t able to breathe.
I— A panted mouth was covered harshly by trembling palms. What…the fuck… Dotted pupils stared forward, then turned to the side in a horrified gaze. …did I do—
There she was. Snuggled under the covers. Hair in beautiful disarray and face blanketed in peace. Even her snores were faint, lulling into a peaceful melody that should tickle his heart.
But no. Instead, the sight and sound only drove his heart to a dry, choking throat.
What had he done? What did he do? He had ruined everything. He had soiled the very friendship he so desperately sought for. He had torn every piece of trust she had of him the very moment he laid his lips on her.
His heart continued to race. Faster and faster and faster. One hand limply clutched his aching chest as a vain act of finding peace.
In all honesty, Leaf would have resisted if she hated it. If she hated him.
   But what if she didn’t?
   What if she pitied him?
All this time, it was him who looked for her. All this time, it was him who dragged her around. She had every chance to say no. She had every chance to decline or leave. But what if all this time, she never did because she felt bad for ruining his childhood dreams? On the night of their fight, he foolishly made it clear that it was Leaf’s fault, and she kept it to heart even though she never plainly said it. Maybe this was her act of redemption. Maybe this was her way of saying sorry.
And last night…when he pushed her and took everything, maybe this was her twisted form of apology.
Shaky breathing only got shakier, rasped and broken as he gasped a frail gasp.
She didn’t want him to leave her. Didn’t want him to break their broken friendship.
And yet, it was never her who shattered it to pieces.
Hands clapped to ringing ears, Green bent forward. His eyes remained wide, tears now forming on each side.
What would happen when she wakes up later? She might forgive him. Hell, she might turn a blind eye and think nothing much of it. But knowing Leaf, it would eat her alive if she were to ever think back of that night. It would kill her on the inside and yet, she was willing to throw everything away if it meant keeping his vain, prideful, foolish self from breaking what left’s of their brittle friendship.
If he were to do it again to her, she would let him.
   Crack.
A withered heart shattered inside a heavy chest.
He should stay away. He should push her away until she had no choice but to leave him again.
That was the only way she could find peace. The only way she could seek happiness. He brought nothing but pain and tears for her. From the moment he chose to ignore her when they were kids, Green left nothing but agony in the poor woman’s heart.
   However…
   Drip…drip…
He couldn’t bear to lie to himself and Leaf again.
“Ah…” Any more than this, and he could lose more than just hope. “A-Aah…”
Suddenly, a felt something touching his right arm.
The gentle action was enough to make him jump. Quickly, he turned to the side, a gasp then exhaled sharply to see a pair of dazzling brown eyes that both healed and poisoned him.
“L-Leaf!” In a frantic daze, he wiped his tears with one arm. “Ahaha, good morning!” Mind frazzled with the emotions that whirlpooled inside, Green straightened his back until a faint crack was heard.
The actions were a failure. Green couldn’t deny the sorrowful gaze that twinkled in her eyes.
   And yet, he kept lying.
“Hope you had a nice sleep.” His smile ached. “Hate to break it to you, but you were drooling a puddle on the pillow.” His stomach turned. “Last night was a doozy, huh? Can’t believe you let me do all that—” Snap. Crack. “—to you.”
Leaf slowly sat up, one hand holding the covers up to her chest. She couldn’t deny that red marks were painted all over her neck and chest. If she were to look at a mirror right now, Leaf might have squeaked in embarrassment. Cheeks were dusted in pink. Slightly bruised lips were pulled to a tiny frown.
Joy should be brimmed within her right now once she woke up. But the second she saw him—bent horribly forward and face torn with tears—Leaf knew something was wrong.
   And unfortunately, she was right.
“I get that you want to leave me.”
   No, she didn’t—
“I’m sorry. I know you hate me right now, so I’ll get off your hair.”
   No, she never would—!
“I get it.” The words were seethed between gritted teeth. “I get it.” The forced laughter was laced with thick poison. “You’ll never see me again.” Crack, crack! One trembling palm pressed firmly against the mattress. His head immediately turned away from her. “I pro—”
“Do you hate me that much…”
   Smash!
To hear her voice—meek and frail…almost hoarse—utter such a sentence. Green swore he felt his façade shatter into a million pieces.
Instantly, his smile dropped. Instantly, he looked at her.
To see her face once again filled with tears. Once again caused by him. It could only make a man insane within a matter of seconds.
“N-No…” The reply was faint. Unintelligible. “No, no!” His body reacted out of reflex. In the first heartbeat, he turned to face her. In the second heartbeat, he pulled her for a tight hug. In the third heartbeat, he nuzzled her chest like a child who was swallowed with shame.
“No… No…!” His face rested on her beating chest. “I can’t—I can never hate you, Leaf!” Vision was obscured by thick tears. Trembling arms were firm around her waist. “I never did hate you. I never did despise you. E-Even when we were kids, I only ever like you. I…” Mouth parted and panted. “I thought that as we grew up, I would be able to forget these feelings and move on. I thought when we reunited, you would accept me as your friend again and I would be happy with that forever…!”
He was a fool. A fool.
“That’s why— Last night was—” He nuzzled into her chest again, voice muffled by tears and the warm touch of her skin. Teeth clattered and chattered as he uselessly tried to keep it together. “I love you. I can’t lose you again. I love… I love you too much that I did all that to you last night. I love you. I love you—!”
The confession echoed inside the room. It rang with tears and sobs, and the one woman in his arms could hear him perfectly.
“I love you.” Eyes stared downwards, blank and red. “I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you!” Panted lips peppered delirious kisses on each bruise he planted on her. “Please, Leaf.” Even if she hated him. “I love you!” Even if she left him. “I love you—”
   “I love you too, Green…”
   Her words. Her reply.
   It made him stop.
The air around them felt heavy still.
He didn’t know when, but Green then pulled himself upwards, dotted pupils staring at the angel in front of him. “W-Wha…”
He saw her smile. Beautiful and radiant.
“I love you too.” Again, she said it, voice clear and ringing. Delicate palms held his cheeks, fingers brushing away tears that stained his handsome face. Her smile grew sweeter, accompanied with a blush that was also stained of clear tears.
“I love you a lot,” When she murmured his name, “Green…” it was filled with love that poured into his broken heart.
Shock held her still only for a brief moment as she felt her body being pulled to another tight hug. Arms were spread apart. Light brown eyes blinked in stupor.
   “Ah, I’m s-so…glad…”
All that reverberated was the sound of his sobs.
“Thank you…. T-Thank you…” Face now resting on her left shoulder, Green let himself drown in his wails.
Sniffling quietly, Leaf wrapped her arms around his head and nuzzled her smile into his hair.
------------------------------
   “Leaf!”
The man’s smile was as radiant as the sun. The moment dark brown eyes met a pair of lighter browns, his smile widened brighter. “Come on, babe!” he spoke, voice almost a gleeful pitch as he held her hand. “The receptionist at the Battle Tree told me that we have some Champions from other regions today! How about we show them what the Kanto Champion Couple can do, eh?” Fingers laced perfectly with hers, he brought her hand up and kissed the back of it. A cheeky grin pressed her skin, and it only curled to swirls to see her adorable reaction.
The woman looked at him, eyes big in adoration and cheeks a touch of pink. Words were void from her—they always were—but her lover never needed them as her expression was enough to evoke a response.
And yet, sometimes it always felt better to let him hear her.
Because when she said his name, “Let’s go, Green!” it always assured him that she truly, only ever loved him just as he only, truly ever loved her.

Irresolute Feelings (Chapter 1) | Volokari
If someone had told Akari that she would find her soulmate 500 years in the past, she would have either dismissed it or laughed it off.
It’s stupid, unbelievable, and downright impossible. She would have a better chance to find a shiny Feebas than the possibility of her love interest being someone who existed way before her own grandparents.
And what if her love interest was a man who was hell bent on killing her and wiping the entire world from its existence? What if they had a horrible fallout that would surely confirm the very idea of them never seeing each other again? What if they had to reunite a year later after being forced to face another unspeakable danger that threatened the past, present, and future?
What if they put their differences aside and worked together which ensured not only the world’s safety, but also their intense feelings for each other?
It was hilarious. Unbelievable and hilarious. Akari might have to smack some senses if someone told her that.
   And yet...
   “Akari?”
His voice snapped her back to reality. A jump and a short peep, then a blush on the cheeks when the other’s reaction was a laugh. “Don’t startle me like that.” She spoke as a glare was given to the tall man.
Not a guilt was hinted when Volo replied, “Sorry, my dear.” Seeing the puff of her cheeks was a delight. Baring a sense of confidence, he leaned towards her and gave a quick kiss on the top of her head.
Ah, those cheeks got cuter every time he saw her.
“You were staring off in the distance.” One hand teasingly pinched her cheek. “Get distracted any further and I would have loved to bite this red mochi.” His smile curled swirls when he saw her pout and push his hand away.
Truly, ever since they were in a relationship—as shocking as it was to both of them—Volo found absolute delight in teasing her. What was once a tool of manipulation, now became a natural habit. He never knew the young woman could be so expressive and responsive. In the few years they knew each other, Volo had observed the many faces of The Chosen One.
He had seen how she pined for him as he blinded her with lies. He had seen unbearable heartbreak when they fought their final battle in The Temple of Sinnoh. He had witnessed her rage when fate forced them together. He had witnessed her indifference when he stood by her side against a common, treacherous enemy.
He felt the horrifying fear of seeing her almost lifeless for the second time in their battle against her past—to get a glimpse of never, ever feeling her warmth ever again.
He felt the agony, the breathless pain when she was blinded with a choice to go home—knowing very well that he may never, ever see her again.
It was something he wanted. Something he should have wanted.
And yet, the memory of losing his family, his tribe, his light—everything—Volo soon found out that Arceus was both cruel and merciful.
As the new year soon rolled by in the corner, Volo now saw pure love emanating from Akari. And how selfish, how powerful he felt to know that that genuine love poured endlessly for him—and only him.
   “I’m not food, you know.”
Her voice brought him back. It always did.
“Ah,” Quickly he recollected his sense, “but you do taste delicious.” His smile stayed, sly as a Zoroark that could almost everyone thinking he was one. “I, for one, definitely remembered how delicious you tasted last night—”
“Okay!” A shout echoed inside the house, tone slightly pitched to match the burning red in her cheeks. “You need to get to work before I sic Belial on you.” Without waiting for his response, Akari—still with cheeks ablaze—swatted his hands away and spun him around.
As much as their feelings were mutual, Volo still found utter disgust in that Hisuian Typhlosion of hers.
Granted, he tried to kill the starter’s wielder in the past, but the Pokémon needed to know that people change.
“Yes, yes.” Shaking in mock defeat, Volo easily spun his heel and held her hands. “I’m off to work now. I’m sad to see my beloved Akari shooing me when all I did was giving her affection.” A sorrowful tone bounced with every word. His smile still stayed in place, Volo bit back a smirk to see her jutted lower lip.
   Truly, she tempted him so.
“I’m not shooing you,” she grumbled, knowing very well he was just toying with her. “We’re both going to be late and I can’t afford to have Commander Kamado giving me a lecture again.”
He knew she was somewhat joking, but a part of him twitched at the mention of another man’s name.
“Hmm...” Lips pursed, Volo bobbed his head and casually reached for the Ginkgo hat near the entrance. His eyes on her broke for a moment, and Volo immediately wore the hat to hide such a flickering glare in his iris.
Unaware of his actions, Akari took a deep breath and held her head high. “Well, if that ever happens again, I’ll have Nobunaga to fight him in my stead. In the meantime, I’ve been practicing some fighting moves with Rei so the Commander will never know what’s coming!” She flexed one arm, actually showing a bicep that had become proof of her survival skills in Hisui.
As proud as she was—and she deserved to be—Volo couldn’t fight the crack in his heart at the mention of another man’s name.
He despised it. He truly despised it.
“Well—” he clipped, tone light yet sharp, “in that case, I should have no worries in the world.” A smile curled his lips, perfect and still. Her gaze on him only fell for only a few seconds, for Volo knew, if she looked at him any longer, she would see the true emotion that gritted behind tight lips.
In the guise of looking at the sky through the opened door, Volo gently patted her head. “Be careful out there, Akari.” Volo looked at her again, assured that this time, his smile was masked to perfection. “I’ll see you later tonight.” A kiss was bestowed on her forehead; pride beamed in his chest to hear the soft squeak of his beloved.
   His beloved.
   His. No one else.
One hand cupped the place that he kissed, Akari gave a little pout. “Mm…” Sound meek as the red in her cheeks, Akari cupped his cheek with her other hand. “I’ll see you tonight, Volo.” Her mouth remained parted, hesitant at the next words that lingered at the tip of her tongue. Her heart yearned for the words to be released, yet her mind held back with a fear that choked her throat.
   “I love you.”
Finally, she said it. Again and again.
Her heart triumphed at the success.
   “I…do too.”
That success however was short-lived and extinguished.
A glimmer of disappointment dimmed the colour of such mesmerizing black irises. But just as it came, it quickly then disappeared. With a quick breath, Akari quickly regained her pride—this was not the first time after all.
With silence and a smile, Volo excused himself and left their home.
Leaving Akari standing by the entrance, once again mending a withered heart that ached for the one word it so desperately needed.
--------------------
The Chosen One was a human girl who fell from the sky and became the voice of those who ruled them all.
She was the strongest in her time, and now the strongest in theirs. Her capability to handle Pokémon as if they weren’t beasts that could easily kill both placed such awe and horror in people. Everyone praised her. Everyone derided her. At first, humans formed distances among themselves in fear that she was a curse that would rob them of their living. As time went by, such baseless rumours faded as she proved herself to be helpful and heroic.
The rumours started again—growing intensely even—when the sky turned red, and all the attention fell upon the human girl who had done nothing but sacrifice herself for the greater good.
   Humans were stupid. Idiotic.
   And she was far stupider.
   “I love you.”
A sharp breath hitched as her words lingered. Volo shook his head lightly, walking forward and trying his damnedest to ignore the burning pain in his chest.
He should have said it back. He should have confessed as well. He should have bared himself open to the woman who saved him from an abyss that swallowed him whole.
   And yet…
   “I love you.”
   Another breath. Sharper. More strained.
“How foolish…” A low hiss spat through gritted teeth. Knowing that he couldn’t keep his mask on in front of customers, Volo quietly walked towards an alley. Once assured that he was alone, he placed his bag and lazily leaned against a wooden hut. One arm draped across closed eyes, though regret them loomed once he realized it only made him see the smile that brought back hope into him.
Suddenly, a bright red light zipped past his bag. Volo didn’t need to look to see who it was.
‘Volo?’ Togekiss chirped lightly, concern etched on her face. Her wielder didn’t respond immediately, but she knew he heard her perfectly. ‘Do you need to talk about it?’ She knew he couldn’t understand her, but Togekiss hoped that the low tone in her voice was enough to convey the message.
   In a way, it did.
“I’m just…” A grunt. “A lot of things in my mind, dear.” Slowly, his arm dropped to his side. A woeful smile was given to the Jubilee Pokémon. One hand gently petted her, fingers ruffled through the soft white feathers.
She squeaked at the affection, but kept her worries on him still. ‘Akari?’
Volo shouldn’t understand her, yet the intonation that she gave was so familiar.
His smile quivered. “I—” His hand stopped on her head. “She…” Akari’s fate. Her presence. Her feelings. Her. Volo had grown through so much the moment she invaded his life. At first, all he ever wanted was to get rid of her. She was an obstacle. A plague that needed to be exterminated in order for him to reach his goal. As time rolled by, he soon realized that she was the key to his new world. He just needed to use to her. To guide her to the plates that would ensure Arceus’ presence.
Volo then realized her feelings for him.
   He was disgusted. Revolted. Excited.
He could use this. He could use her. Love is a disease that could weaken even the strongest. A man who had seen colours and light could go blind so easily if love asked them to burst their eyeballs. If Volo played his cards right, he could convince her to give him all his plates.
If not, he could always kill her like he planned.
Alas, Arceus had other plans for him—for better or for worse.
   “I’m…” His heart hurt. “…afraid.”
Togekiss remained quiet, patient and waiting, never surprised as Volo bared his feelings.
“She’s mine now and I…” His mouth gaped. A bitter chuckle escaped through. “I often think that I will wake up soon.”
Surprise finally widened the Pokémon’s eyes.
He looked at her. Sorrow clouded his vision. Despondence lined the corners of his smile. “We should have been in our new world right now. We would be happier. Free from the suffering and pain that we’re forced to face. Free from Arceus’ judgement since I would now hold his powers.” The hand by his side curled to fists. “And yet, none of that ever happened. Here we are—here I am—still in this damn world I hate. In this damn universe that condemns my every waking day.”
Togekiss merely listened, her frown deepened by his confession.
“And yet…I don’t mind it now.”
Surely, she was surprised at the fact that he was still able to surprise her every now and then. ‘Meaning?’ Casting a quick glance at his bag, Togekiss perched on it before giving her full attention back at him.
“I don’t mind living in this damn world. I don’t mind breathing in this cursed universe.” Grey eyes looked at the sky, blue and clear with hope.
   He despised it.
“I don’t mind all of that now because…because now I have her.”
The pain in his chest tightened at the memory of Akari.
The Chosen One who saved the world from falling into ruin. The Chosen One who saw the good in everyone even from those who exiled her. The Chosen One who sacrificed her own happiness if it means others were able to feel joy.
The Chosen One who finds the chances of this timeline after losing her own in an aftermath of a demonic destruction.
She should be broken. She should have lost hope. The moment her world was destroyed right before her very eyes, she should have numbed all senses and used the blasted deity to recreate her world.
   And yet, she didn’t.
To make matters worse, neither did Arceus.
It may have saved her from the brink of death. But to deny her the wish of ever returning home was something any human would have a reason to lose their sanity.
Volo could never know the conversation they had between the two, but once the Alpha Pokémon finally granted his wish of its presence, all he remembered was the sound of its haunting voice: ‘This is meant to be.’
The last thing Volo remembered was seeing Akari. Lifeless and unmoving as she lay on an open meadow.
His emotions were bare as a newborn baby as he cradled her into his arms. His laughter and tears mingled as he saw her grumble awake.
Their old worlds may be gone, but Arceus had given them a chance to start a new world together.
A smile he didn’t realize he had trembled. “That’s why I’m afraid.” His head dropped. “What if this was all another dream? Another cruel play by Arceus? I’ve done so many things to blaspheme it, it’s not a surprise that I’m being punished now.” Both fists were raised, shaken and tight. “To feel this happiness. To get a second chance. To receive her forgiveness. To taste her love. All of these are things that I should never deserve…”
   His voice lowered, quivered.
   “I love you.”
“Her words ring so true and I…I want to believe her. I do…” Slowly, his back slid down. “I do…” Curled hands resting on the top of his knees, Volo weakly bent until his forehead landed on his fists. “But if do believe her, if I do say it in return, what if this little world shatters? What if she fades away and I can’t do anything to reach her…?” His voice cracked. Blonde bangs shielded the side of his face.
   “I love you.”
   “I can’t lose her too…”
Silence was the answer to all his sorrows.
A lone man knelt in the alleyway, hidden and quiet amidst the lively sound of the village. He remained still, lost in his despair. Togekiss only watched him, sad and even more concerned as she listened to his fears.
‘Volo…’ she peeped. Carefully, she hopped off the bag and towards him. ‘You won’t lose her.’ The Jubilee Pokémon softly bopped his head with her own. ‘It’s been almost a year and you’re still together. If this really was a cruel game by Arceus, she would have left or died by now.’ Togekiss tried her best to cheer him up—tried being the keyword. ‘But she didn’t. She’s here and she loves you. Even if she’s terribly sad that her world is gone, she didn’t lose hope because you are there for her.’
Her comfort was given in sounds of chirps and cheeps. Even if Volo couldn’t understand, Togekiss would try her best to make sure that his friend was happy again.
   ‘Akari truly loves you.’
The familiar tune of her name brought his head up. Volo looked at his childhood friend, mouth frowned and eyes gloomy. However, a part of him fizzled a numbing warmth at the sight of her confident smile.
Maybe he did understand her a little bit.
“Thank you, Togekiss.” Back straightened against the wooden wall, Volo gave her another pat. “Thank you…”
A triumphant coo actually tickled a laugh out of him.
‘You should tell Akari how you feel too.’ She tried again. Knowing that this message was very important, Togekiss took flight and started flying in front of him. She zipped to the left then upwards, then turned upside-down for a mere second before flying right-side-up, then downwards and to the right, right at the starting point.
It took Volo a few seconds to realize what she was trying to convey.
“Ah.” was all the man said.
He wanted to laugh to see such exuberance on the Jubilee Pokémon’s face.
“I—” The hesitance was back. “That…requires time.”
Togekiss frowned. ‘A year is considered time enough.’
He knew damn well that she was chastising him.
“I do love her!” Finally, the words Akari yearned for echoed in the alley. Alas, only a Pokémon was able to hear it. “I… She knows that.” Back was his smug, cocky attitude. “She knows damn well I love her since I clearly show it. Many times with the help I do ever since we live together and many, many, many times with my body.”
   Togekiss looked utterly unimpressed.
It was a stab to his pride.
“Togekiss, I—” He stopped, then huffed. “I will—tell her.” Admitting defeat, Volo waved his hands. “I will. Soon.”
The muscles above her right eye was raised.
   “As soon as possible.”
A single tilt of her head was given.
   Another sigh. “Tonight.”
   Finally, Togekiss chirped in glee.
Truly, he couldn’t win with her.
Relishing on her jubilance, Volo casually stood up and wiped the dirt off his butt. “Well then, since my persistent friend is encouraging me, who am I to deny—?”
“I’m so glad you’re here, Akari.”
The sound of a familiar voice saying a dear name stopped Volo in his tracks.
He didn’t know when he started moving. He didn’t know when his head started turning. He didn’t even realize Togekiss chirping in surprise as he walked past her.
Once grey eyes spotted them, he felt his breathing hitch uncontrollably.
There she was. His Akari. His beloved. Having her arm around Rei. Standing so close as the young man leaned against her.
His muscles tensed. His thoughts numbed. One hand that was pressed on a wooden wall curled slowly, roughly until nails scraped against the thick material of wood. His heart raced. Screamed. Howled. Banged madly inside his chest, bellowing for freedom. His breathing grew ragged, flaring through nostrils before seething through gritted teeth. A shadow loomed on his face, hiding what’s left that blonde bangs had covered.
Eyes were wide as saucers. Pupils shrunk madly, shaking as he watched her hold his hand.
Togekiss quickly hopped next to him. Surprise widened her eyes to see the topic of their conversation. ‘Oh, there she is!’ she chirped, giving a little bounce. ‘Do you want to go and say hell…’ She looked up at him, voice then dulled to a murmur as she saw his manic expression. ‘…o…’
Neither a response nor reply was given.
In a blink of an eye, Volo turned around, snatched his backpack, and marched away on the other side of the alley.
   Horror immediately dawned upon her.
‘Oh no…’ Sensing pure malice that emanated from her dear friend, Togekiss quickly took flight towards him. ‘Oh no no…’
Deep in her heart, the Jubilee Pokémon prayed for the impossible.

Irresolute Feelings (Chapter 5/END) | Volokari (Smut)
   Stupor held the man still.
He had watched his Togekiss talk—or rather, chirp—with the demonic beast. He remembered her voice being louder than usual, her squeaks being shaken and cracked as she communicated with the ghoulish Pokémon. Smoke and dust muddled his senses. Volo had been coughing and wheezing, mind failed to register that he should have cupped his mouth and nose.
Instead, his mind reminded him of the horrors of black, purple flames.
He was thankful for Togekiss’ speed, truly he was. If it weren’t for her, Volo knew that there would be nothing left of him.
No charred body. No molded mass. No ash nor soot. Nothing.
His lungs forced out another cough.
A flinch occurred at a taste of something metallic. A hiss then spat out at the feel of a tiny, gaping cut inside his cheek. The short, sharp pain grounded him back to earth as Volo cupped and hastily wiped his mouth. Spit instead escaped next once he realized both palms were dirty with dust and dirt. Quickly, he squeezed his eyes shut, head shaking furiously as a dull ache came knocking next.
The conversation between two Pokémon truly gave him time to recollect his senses. As much as anger and jealousy had blinded him, Volo knew regret would only loom and swallow the man whole if he were to ever lose Akari.
   Akari.
Realization finally made him bellow a croaked gasp.
As quick as he was to close his eyes, he was quicker to snap them wide open.
Palms slammed against the tatami mat. He looked forward.
There she was. His beloved. His saviour. His Chosen One. Curled on the floor and leaning limply against a wall.
As reality cleared his mind, regret truly did pierce deep into the very pit of his stomach.
Akari remained quiet. Shaking. Her knees were hugged. Arms that looked smaller than usual tightened their hold. Her head dropped; face hidden behind kneecaps. Locks of long, jet-black hair cascaded down the sides of her face. Fingers curled and clenched as she vainly tried to stop herself from trembling. The young woman only hunched lower, ignoring her back that begged for her to stop.
   She looked small. Frail. Broken.
Crack. It killed him. It truly did.
Not a single peep. Not a single sound.
He remained where he was. Bafflement fogged his mind. Guilt entangled his heart. Volo was at loss as to what he should do. Sweat trickled down the sides of his face. Blonde strands stuck to a sticky forehead, yet he couldn’t be bothered to move it away as all he could ever focus right now was her.
   Akari.
   Akari. Akari. Akari.
“A-A—” His mouth parted, her name dying at the tip of his tongue. “A…A-Aka—”
   “Leave.”
Grey eyes shrunk at the sound of her cold, choked voice.
That single word was all he needed, funny as it was, as Volo immediately sat up straight. “Akari—”
   “Leave.”
The word was clearer. His fear grew stronger.
Panic rose until bile felt like bubbling inside his throat. Volo was never one to show his vulnerability so easily. He had tucked them away perfectly behind the many masks he wore. Since the loss of his tribe, the man had made it his unsaid vow to never, ever, ever show such weakness in a world created by some unholy creature that dictated his life and death.
He was a master of deception. He was a master manipulator.
And yet, from the moment she appeared into his life, Volo soon realized that all his masks, all his vulnerabilities, all of them would lay bare for her to see.
   And now…
“A…Akari…!” In a daze of dread, Volo pushed himself up and cautiously approached the still woman. “Akari plea—”
   “I said LEAVE!”
   He froze.
He didn’t know when it happened. The second her voice shattered the atmosphere, Volo realized he was on his knees. Right hand had stretched in her direction, right towards the one whom he did not deserve. Fingers that reached out for her stayed perfectly still. Grey eyes shook; vision blurred at the sight of the one human he had hurt.
   Silence haunted the room again.
Not once did Akari raise her head. If anything, she dug her face deeper. Slow, labored breaths slurred out of pale, pink lips. The wound on her cheek strained right up to the corner of her right eye. A mild bruise on her jaw throbbed and ached, digging its pain straight to the sides of her head.
The pain meant nothing to her.
All of this was nothing to her.
“Just…” Her heart hurt more. “…leave…” Her heart was going through so much that breathing seemed like a hassle for her.
Arms hardened around her knees. She didn’t want to face him. She didn’t want to hear him. For Akari knew, if she were to see him right now, she couldn’t bear it. She would just spiral even further. Regret and longing would only swallow her sanity whole once again. Images of all her lost ones would only appear before her, surround her. They would stare at her, eerily taunt her with vile memories of their mangled corpses.
Black eyes shrunk and shook into dots.
   Whimpers turned to heavy pants.
Why was this happening to her?
All she ever wanted was to live a normal life. All she ever wanted was to have a fun Pokémon journey with her best friend. When all is said and done, all she ever wanted was to rest in a nice cozy home and make think back about the memories she made with her beloved people and Pokémon.
All of that. All of that sounded selfish once she was forced to appear in this timeline.
She did her best to survive. She did her best to adapt. Her kindness knows no bounds, and some people found that utterly foolish. Her sense of justice gave her hope, blinded her with a fantasy that she might be able to go back home once she finished her mission. Even when people shunned her. Even when Pokémon were trying to brutally kill her. Even when the man she so loved wanted her dead by his feet. Akari thought. Akari thought that if she proved herself, Arceus would take pride and give her what she wanted.
In a way, she both didn’t and did.
Alas, what Arceus gave, Arceus would take.
She felt suffocated. She couldn’t breathe.
All she ever wanted was to live a normal life! All she ever wanted was to be loved by those whom she found dear! All she ever wanted was to be with the one who would always remind her that her life was worth it! All she ever wanted was to LIVE—!
   Tearful eyes squeezed shut.
Why… She felt cold. Why me…? She felt suffocated.
   “Aka…ri…?”
   Ah.
   It’s his voice.
   It’s his voice again.
That soft, gentle voice. Void of the cold, cruel tone that clawed her many minutes ago, yet also absent of the gleeful chirp that often sent her heart a flutter.
   It now sounded weak. Frail.
   That was unfair.
“I…” He was unfair. “Vo—” He was truly a cruel, cruel man.
She couldn’t bear to say his name. Slowly, she shook her head. “Please…” Her plea strained too pathetically; she couldn’t find it in the shattered remains of her heart to care. “Don’t…” Her head remained low, yet Akari stifled a sob to be able to see the perfect image of her beloved.
His smile. His laugh. His touch. His kiss.
   Him.
“W-Why—” She was afraid. “—won’t you leave…” She was tired.
   “I…I won’t—”
   Her shaking ceased.
Her head wasn’t raised. Not yet. Not now.
The single reply—so meek and bleak—was enough to fuel fire inside the boiling pits of her stomach. How could he say such a thing? How could he manipulate her again? After all that’s said and done? Why was he such born so twisted that he must rip and stomp on her heart again after vowing to be together even when time and space stopped?
“Urgh—hic…” Thick tears blurred the image of his lovely smile. Nausea spread her throat apart, yet her body was too weak, too exhausted to drag itself to the nearest bin. Let vomit cover the mat for all she cared. Let blood spill in this room if it meant she could finally be at peace. If it wasn’t for Belial, Akari would actually find bliss in being free from this cruel, cruel reality.
She hated it. She hated that her heart still beat.
Arms tightened around her knees. Teeth clenched harder until the muscles in her jaw strained. It felt eternal. And then, it felt nothing. Her body soon grew limp. Her mind was drawing a complete blank. However, her head pounded until it felt heavy. Too heavy. If she were to pass out now, it would be for the best. At least she could rid herself of this terrible night even if it’s temporary—
   “I’m sorry…”
If the sound of his apology didn’t ground her back to reality, the feel of something touching her feet did.
As one woman froze in her place, one man had kneeled on all fours.
“I’m…sorry…” His forehead pressed against the cold tatami mat. Trembling hands brushed the tip of her toes, fingers gingerly brushing upwards. His whole body felt like lead. His heart felt like it had dropped to the very pits of a gurgling stomach. Eyes felt red. Vision turned blurry. They burned at each blink.
Memories of this morning tainted his mind. Fear disintegrated his rationality, further poisoning him with the very thought that Akari would be gone from his grasp. The very thought of losing her caused him to be breathless, mouth gaping and nose pressing hard against the tatami mat. What was once hate now bloomed to love, and it was an emotion Volo foolishly thought he had control over.
There he was hours ago, lamenting to his friend that losing Akari would be akin to losing a part of his soul.
Now, here he was, vainly begging for forgiveness he never deserved.
If she were to ever disappear, he once thought that he had Arceus to blame as this was punishment for the sins he had blighted upon the Alpha Pokémon.
But no. This was never Arceus’ doing.
Trembling hands slid upwards to her midfoot. Breathing grew rampant. Eyes grew wider.
His breathing stopped momentarily once he felt her feet being pulled away.
   Terrified. He was absolutely terrified.
   “I love you!”
Fear was also another emotion he couldn’t have control over. It was an emotion that instead took power over his very heart and mind.
Quickly he shot his head up, bloodshot eyes pleading at the stunned woman. Hands held her feet, palms pressed firmly against them as they continued to shake. “Akari, my dear—” A smile, manic and frail, tugged the corners of his lips. “I—I love you—!” A distorted laughed escaped through his bewilderment. Elbows pressing against the ground, Volo stared at her with a bloodshot gaze—
   “How…dare…you…”
Pupils shrunk at the fragile sound of her hiss.
“I—Wha…” Stupor left the man stunned in his place. And here he thought that the woman would rejoice. That his beloved would smile and laugh at finally hearing the words she so desperately wanted to hear.
   But no.
All he saw was an expression that boiled of pure, unbridled rage.
How could he, she thought. How could he? How could he?
After all these years. After all that they’d been through. All the nights Akari dreamed of hearing such words. All the days she reminded him in hopes that he would say the same. In the past, Akari would have trusted him. Her pitiful affection once blinded her for the bastard he really was. But once all that was said and done, the trainer decided to put the past behind them and start anew. She decided to trust him again—despite it all.
   But now…
   Now…
   Her eyes burned.
“…ow could y-you…” A sniffle. “After…A-After what you’ve done…You did all this—” A croak. “And…A-And…” Eyes strained to a glare at the baffled man in front of her. “When you know I’ve b-been waiting…for…” Her body shook again. Her teeth chattered weakly. “…that…” Tears soiled her vision once again. It hurt. It stung. But she didn’t care.
What a fool she was to fall for such a man.
“How could you—” Crack. “—lie to me now…”
   Crack!
Shaking pupils shrunk into dots. A sharp gasp escaped, faint but rough, rolling another wave of nausea down his throat.
“I’m not lying!” Pap! Both hands slammed against the mat. Through the small gap between them, Volo leaned towards her. “I truly, really love you—”
“LIAR!” she snapped, heart breaking just as harshly.
“I’M NOT!” His voice raised by accident, regret immediately looming upon him to see her cringe. Panic shook the ground beneath him. The very idea of Akari not believing her was driving him insane. If his words—his feelings—couldn’t get through her, Volo began fearing for the worst.
Her love and forgiveness were what kept him alive. If he lost all that—!
   If…he lost…all that…
   If…he lost…her—
A cry was stifled behind clenched teeth.
“I—I love you.” Again. “I love you!” He needed to say it again. “I love you. I love you!” A broken smile twisted his face. “Please believe me, Akari.” Vision spiraled as he tried to focus on her, Volo almost dropped on all fours before planting one palm on the mat. He watched as she glared at him. He panted as she couldn’t believe him. “A-Akari, my dear—”
“Then why are you hurting me again…”
   He froze.
He didn’t realize his right hand was reaching for her. Immediately, he ceased all movement. Like a beautiful statue that was cracked and ephemeral, Volo remained perfectly still.
   She was tired. Too tired.
“It hurts…” One hand weakly caressed the light bruise around her jaw. She flinched slightly, though the pain was quite bearable compared to the agonizing torment in her heart.
   Truly, she had had enough.
   “I’m sorry…”
Arceus, she grew to hate those words.
However, fatigue stitched her mouth shut. Akari only slumped against the wall, broken and defeated. She tore her gaze away from him, for she knew if she looked any longer, her traitorous heart would only beg for his affection.
   “I…” He needed to fix this. “I just… I’m—afraid of losing you…”
She kept her head turned to the side.
Teeth pinching roughly into his tongue, Volo continued, “There are times where I feared this was all a dream. That I—That if I returned your feelings verbally, you might disappear…” Hope. He vainly hoped as Akari didn’t push her away just yet.
“I’m a selfish fool.” Palms were once again pressed against the mat. “There I was, receiving your forgiveness when all I ever did was curse your very existence. Even when reunited, I fully expected you to kill me as vengeance for almost killing you.”
In truth, all her Pokémon almost did. Multiple times.
“But you chose to ignore me and my cruel remarks, all for the sake of saving this wicked world.” A distressed chuckle slipped out. “I played you for a fool, and yet you still chose to forgive me…” He thought she was a fool for keeping him alive. He thought she was a fool for treating him like a human being.
Alas, in turns out that he was the fool all along.
“When I… When you almost disappeared, I thought I could handle it. I thought it was what I wanted.” Arceus was truly cruel for playing such tricks. “But then you almost died—something that I had wished for so, so…long…” Breathless as he was as memories sunk deep into his mind.
“I…” His head hung low. “I love you. I cannot bear a world without you.” Blonde hair slid downwards, shielding a heartbrokenly deranged expression. “I was scared—I am scared…” His heart lay bare for her. For the woman who saved him. For the woman he never, ever deserved.
Akari only listened, unmoving and sniffling. Her heart beat rapidly at the waver of his voice. Tone deep and shattered, she once again held her breath at his confession. Oh, how she hated her heart for feeling rejuvenated. How she damned her mind for believing a man who once cursed her very being.
   “And…when I saw you with Rei today, I just—lost it…”
Finally, her head snapped in his direction. The final confession made her eyes widen. Though tears stained each corner of her eyes and flushed cheeks, Akari blinked quickly at the man who now refused to meet her gaze. Mouth parted, breathing out warm air that further dried her cracked lips.
“You—” Anger once again bubbled inside her stomach. “You tried to kill me in the past. You manipulated me and broke my heart before! Do you think you have the right to assume I’m cheating on you?!” Words for once were clear as day, echoing the walls and piercing deep into his eardrums.
His silence only boiled her fury.
“I can’t…believe you…” Shaking hands curled to fists. “I l-lost everything and everyone and yet…I still find happiness with you. But you—” Every bone in her body popped as she sat up straight. “You have the gall to think I would ever leave you? After all I’ve said and done?”
   He remained still.
   She hated it.
“VOLO!” Finally, his name was roared out. “Stupid…stupid!!” Unable to hold her fury, she raised her fist and landed a punch on his shoulder.
   Whack! Again on his shoulder.
Whack, whack! Another on his arms.
“Stupid—stupid idiot!” Tears no longer misted her vision. All she saw was him, bowed and looking away. Whack, whack, whack, whack! “I can’t believe you!” Fists tightened and nails dug deep inside her palms, she landed each punch—harder, rougher.
Whack, whack, whack! Each hit mirrored the pain she felt. Each punch was a reflection of the agony she held. “Stupid, stupid!” Intelligible words were a failure as her mind was clouded with anger.
Volo only let her be, letting his body become a punching bag if it means redemption for what he had done to her. Nails scraped the tatami mat. Head hung low as he received a punch on his back. Her anger rang clear. He knew he had no right in stopping or correcting her—
   “I hate you!”
However, there was one that he could never accept.
   “NO!”
Lost in her heartbreak, Akari started spewing anything that came into her frazzled mind. Fury frizzled into shock when she felt her wrists being held and his face being positioned so close to her.
Grey eyes were wide, pupils shrinking in fear at the last thing he ever wanted to hear.
“Don’t ever say that,” he seethed, eyes mad with terror. Unblinking, he brought her hands to his mouth, kissing and revering each finger. “Please… Please…” Again, his voice faltered. Hair in disarray, Volo cocked his head upwards and looked at the stunned woman. “Please…don’t ever say that…”
Upon realizing what she actually said, Akari blinked dumbly before spatting a curse. “You hurt me…” The accusation came out as a frail whimper. While he now wasn’t physically hurting her anymore, Akari still felt the stinging pain of her broken heart.
“I’m sorry…” Chu… A kiss was bestowed on her left fingernail. “I am so sorry, Akari…” Chu, chu… Another kiss, this time trailed to the same ring finger, lips drawing upwards to the back of her hand.
His eyes never left hers. “Please…don’t hate me…”
She expected an accusation. A tricky remark. Anything he usually said in order to get her to speak what he wanted to hear.
But now, as she looked at him—despondent and desperate—Akari soon realized the sincerity that dripped within.
She wanted to say it again. To gauge his reaction. To make him suffer.
It was the least she could do. He had done so much to hurt her. He had caused so much grief that could drive any person insane.
“Mmm…” Her lips pursed. Her cheeks burned.
Grey eyes were red and strained. “Akari…please…”
The deep, husky voice she knew and memorized in her dreams became a weapon. She hated that.
However, “Say it again…” she never hated him.
Upon hearing her simple request, it washed a wave of relief over him. “Ha…” His grip was shaking, yet he never let go. “Haha…” The withered smile grew wider, accompanying tears that trickled down each cheek. “I love you, Akari.” Carefully, Volo pulled her closer. “I love you…” Heart screaming in joy that she wasn’t fighting back, he gingerly wrapped his arms around her shoulders. Hands brushed her back, caressing up and down, fingers tracing the back of her neck before curling some strands of soft, black hair. “I love you…” The words he once found so heavy to utter were now pouring so shamelessly.
“I love you…” His face nuzzled into her neck. “I love you…” His mouth brushed an apologetic kiss over her bruise. “I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you…” Unable to stop himself, Volo tightened his embrace. He was careful still, holding on to the fear that she would disappear in an instant.
   Akari never did.
Instead, her head tipped slightly, mouth trembling back a moan. “Mm…” was all she stifled. Hands gripped the front of his Ginkgo shirt, fingers digging deep into the soft material.
   “Do you love me?”
What a cruel man he was.
She felt him pull away briefly. She was already tired enough, so there was no point in denying what was true. “Of course I love you—mmph—!”
Words died to a muffle as his lips pressed to hers.
Bafflement held her still while ardor fueled his desires. His lips found her, already parted and panted as his tongue pierced within. The taste of her immediately awakened something primal, controlling his grip from soothing to firm as he traced his hands back to her slim shoulders. A hungry tongue tickled her own, gingerly tickling it upwards and urging it to enter his own mouth.
   She tasted so, so divine.
Lips never leaving hers, Volo carefully scooped her in his arms. A meek squeak entered his mouth, and Volo swallowed it like a starving man as he brought his Chosen One to their futon.
Heart pounding against her chest, Akari wrapped her arms around his neck out reflex. Though startled by his actions, her body welcomed it immediately—her heart bloomed for him blissfully—and her mind, melted and light-headed, tried to remind her to be wary of such a dangerous lover.
   The latter was losing—terribly.
Plop. She felt her body being placed on the soft futon. Air was pushed out of her, and breathing only seemed more impossible as he robbed her will to think as well. Pat, pat, she tapped his shoulders. A low whimper escaped her as he finally broke the kiss. A string of saliva connected the tip of their tongues, and Akari only felt shameless to see such a flushed, fervid expression right above her.
Pupils were blown wide amidst grey eyes. Her reflection—just as aroused and ardent—was seen clearly in such a tantalizing gaze.
   “Akari…”
Heat pooled between her legs to hear such a husky, seductive tone.
Wet lips pursed, holding back the mistake of echoing a shameless sound. A part of her—tiny as it may be—was still angry. Though she now foolishly fluttered for the man, her stubbornness clenched her teeth hard as Akari looked to the side.
The action was clearly a mistake.
Lips parted to a short gasp as she felt a hot mouth on the side of her neck.
Chu, chu, chup, chuu… Deliriously, he peppered kisses after kisses. He kissed a small, horizontal scar that traced up to her right ear. He kissed the recent scar on her right cheek. It lingered for a few breaths, lips mouthing an apology that caressed her skin. He then pecked a part of a new, once charred skin that had formed on her collarbone. Lips continued to brush around her neck, nose inhaling and remembering her scent that sent a shiver down his spine.
His mouth then stopped at the fresh wound under her jaw.
Softly, gingerly, almost featherlike, he kissed the spot. He felt her flinch, and the reaction was more than enough to pierce guilt deep into his fiendish heart. Volo carefully nuzzled the wound, then mouthed an apology as lips pecked her chin.
Words were void, yet she heard him.
Taking a slow, shaky breath, she looked at him once again.
Vision was blurry despite the close distance.
Silence communicated between them. As Volo stood on his knees, Akari slowly followed suit and sat up. Black eyes never left a pair of greys. Cold body shivered as she felt strong hands softly tugging her jinbei. The cotton tie on her right side was easily untied, letting the top part to unravel and reveal her chest.
Her body felt colder. His hands felt warmer.
One finger gingerly poked her collarbone, then trailed down, down to her rapidly beating chest. Finger turned to palm as he gently pressed her skin, feeling the frantic beat of her heart. His left hand deftly untied the other knot inside her clothing, gaze—spiraled and heady—unbroken from a pair of eyes that matched his dying thirst.
The top jacket was removed, shoulders shimmied and hands throwing the attire to the side before planting hard into the soft futon.
   She never looked away too.
The same slim finger traced around her chest, drawing circles and swirls before each finger tickled her marred skin. He felt every bump. Every rough patch. Scars, old and new, marked her once delicate body, and Volo found the sight merely angelical.
Fingers gingerly circled around her brown nipple. His touch traced on her areola, fingertips dancing on her left breast without even touching the stiff teat.
   Her breathing grew heavier.
A quiet gasp slurred down a plump, lower lip. His name died at the tip of it, bringing out an echo inside a hollow room.
   He understood perfectly.
Fingers finally poked her nipple, eliciting a surprised squeak that made his cock twitch. He brushed upwards—softly—feeling the smooth skin against a callous finger. He watched as she took a quiet, deep breath. A crooked smile tickled the corner of his mouth. This time, he brushed it downwards, then circled the teat around until he saw her chest heave quickly.
Her cheeks were flushed. Too flushed. Black eyes were glazed, iris swallowed by dilated pupils. Her lips—plump, wet, and parted—only enticed him to taste her further.
Finally, he broke the intense stare that burned his heart. Instead, he aimed at her right breast, unattended and craving his touch.
Of course, he wished to fix that.
His name still died as a gasp as Akari felt a hot tongue on her right nipple. “Nnh…” White teeth clenched momentarily, then unclenched as she felt her left nipple being lightly pinched.
Slim fingers pressed and prodded her nipple, stiffening it even more that it started to ache. A warm mouth cupped her right breast, indulging in the delicious taste and sucking an even more delicious teat. A wet tongue flicked the brown tip, trailing up and down and around and around before sucking the nipple lazily.
“V-Vo—” Finally, his name was heard, fueling his hunger that coiled inside his stomach. One hand cupped her mouth, fingers pressed harder onto her face once she felt his free hand trail downwards.
Everywhere he touched burned, yet she felt warm. Everywhere sound he made sounded guttural, yet she felt wetter.
“Ngh—!” A low hiss choked in her throat as she felt teeth nibble her brown nipple.
Volo twisted and turned gently, careful not to hurt it yet gave enough pressure to push pleasure. Grey eyes were fixated on the angel above him, pupils pooled in black and spiraled in a reflection that bared nothing but her.
Pop. He then let go, not before giving her left nipple a short flick of the tongue.
Her shivers felt delightful on his touch.
Lying limply on the futon, Akari felt her pants being tugged. Without a thought, she held his wrists, immediately stopping him from proceeding.
A quick wave of panic boiled in his stomach. Wordlessly, he looked at Akari, concern and fear etching his eyebrows and glistening in his eyes.
There were times where Volo once used those tactics to manipulate her. There were times where she was fooled so blindly, accepting his masks as if they were his true feelings.
Now, those were not those times.
“Off…” she meekly whispered; head bobbed slightly as she blinked such beautiful black eyes in his direction. Lower lips pulling to a pout, she tugged on the sleeves of his work attire.
Fear and panic dissolved into nothingness once he realized what she wanted.
Oh, how he wanted to cackle like a fool.
Instead, a stunned chuckle slipped out as Volo kneeled above her. His knees pressed on each side of her hip; Volo took off his Ginkgo outfit. Thankfully, he had long discarded his backpack and the outerwear that resembled the guild’s logo once he entered their home. Instead, all that’s left was the jumpsuit that he soon realized was now too stuffy and unbearable.
He unbuttoned the top part, letting the clothing slide off his shoulders and his arms slip out of each sleeve. His gaze never left hers, glossy and gleaming as he basked in her awe over him.
Like her, his body was littered with scars and bruises. Some were old. Some were new. Years of surviving on his own allowed his body to be meatier and buff, which caused a surprise for Akari when she first saw him since the Ginkgo attire was always thick and puffy.
Lost in her thoughts, Akari came gasping back to earth when she felt her pants being slid off so easily.
“Volo!” Finally, her voice rang loud and true. Quickly, she leaned on one elbow while the other tried to cover her chest in a sudden act of self-consciousness.
However, quickly she was silenced, mouth parted to a quiet gasp as she felt one hand sliding between her thighs.
Face aflame, Akari stifled a squeak and pouted harder.
   She was cute. Too cute.
“Let me do this, my dear,” he purred, right palm brushing up and down her inner thigh. Though face just as flushed, Volo still had the ability to properly think on the actions he was and would be doing.
And what he was thinking right now was shown through his fingers brushing her wet cunt.
A breath was hitched behind a quivering smile to see her shiver. “Akari…” Her name was delicious cream that trailed across a jutted tongue. The thick slur of his tone only intensified her shivers, and Volo found absolute pleasure to see such a sight.
   He wished to see more.
One finger traced through the dark bush that led to her enticing cunt. Pink tongue inadvertently wet a suddenly dry mouth.
   She was soaked. Shamelessly so.
Aaahhh… A long sigh echoed in his mind. I love you… Mind hypnotized by the thought of her, Volo leaned above her by levelling himself with his left hand right next to her head. His right hand remained on her pussy, middle and index finger lightly pinching the soft, fat lower lips together before pulling them apart.
   Pinch…pull…
   Pinch…pull…
He did that for a few more times, relishing on her reactions which consists of meek mewls and weak whimpers.
   He wanted to hear more.
   “My dear…” A whisper. “My Akari…” A desire.
Surprise flickered between her panting. But before she could say anything else, the young woman instead moaned at the feel of his finger brushing against her slit.
“Let me make up to you…” The words were muttered so softly, so huskily. Leaning a bit closer until her legs were spread apart, Volo inserted one, long middle finger inside her. She was soaked entirely, enabling his finger to enter easily. In and out he slowly fucked her, later curling the same finger to caress the wet walls that had him thirsty for more.
Her replies were in forms of pants and moans. Unlike minutes ago, Akari looked at him. Shame was slowly being burned to crisps, leaving desire that pooled into a puddle between her thighs.
Her head cocked upwards. Her mouth parted wordlessly as another finger slipped into her wet cunt. As just as Akari thought his actions couldn’t elicit more sparks within her, the feel of his open-mouth kisses on her neck only made her toes curl. “Mhmm…” Lips pursed in vain, mind stubbornly holding back an obvious reaction to tease him further.
A challenge he saw. A challenge he sought.
Chup. Mouth pressed and peeled off the side of her neck, Volo continued kissing downwards. His lips traveled to the valley between her breasts. One flick of his tongue on her right nipple, then another on her left. A smile only curled the corner of his hungry mouth to see her shiver at each sensitive touch. Fingers still busy flickering her clit and fucking her pussy, Volo peppered more and more kisses. This time, it traced down to her belly button, lips replaced by tongue as he licked the sensitive little hole.
Ah, what joy he felt to feel every reaction on his mouth and hand.
He kissed down and down. Down to the soft, thick bush between her thighs. Face nuzzled on the small strands, nose inhaling sharply to bask in her scent that only drove him insane.
   “V-Volo…”
The free hand on the futon clenched madly at the sound her intoxicating voice. Though cock twitched and strained for his attention—for her entrance—Volo knew he needed to make amends.
In a daze, he tilted upwards and rested his chin on her left thigh. “Hmm…?” Lazily, he responded, mouth softened to a sensual grin.
Ah, how she wanted to curl inside a blanket for saying what she was about to say.
“Mm…” Trembled lips loosened. “More…” Right fingers curled as she positioned them near her mouth. Her head cocked forward, meeting his gaze that could send her into a state of debauchery.
What she wanted, she would get.
Never breaking their sights on each other, Volo put both legs on his shoulders. Pop. Both fingers slipped out of her. Index and middle fingers were soaked, trickled with her juice that made his lips dry.
Ensuring she looked at him, Volo sucked his index and middle fingers, tongue circling around the sticky digits to savor her taste.
Swirls of shame pooled in her eyes. Spirals of desire bubbled in his eyes.
Both hands now squeezing her thighs, Volo wasted no time and slipped his tongue inside her.
The action alone made her back arch.
“Vo—!” Seeking the release he had been denying of her, Akari let out a long moan at the feel of something wetter—something more erratic. Hands whipped to his hair, fingers tangling through the blonde locks as he nuzzled her clit with his nose.
His tongue slipped in and out and in and out. It curled up against her walls, then slid around in circles to get every taste of her. Like a man starved for decades, Volo slid his tongue out and sucked the throbbing clit. The action only made her jump again, but the deprived man held her down firmly as he sucked and nibbled her bud. His nose brushed against the short black hairs, and Volo merely shook his head with each heady breath. A tongue met her clit, flicking up and down in wild movements that only matched the sound of her broken moans.
“V-Vo—” Her legs straightened. Her toes curled. “Volo…I’m ah—!” Hands pulled his hair, attracting a growl that vibrated across her clit.
Fueled by her reactions, Volo moved his mouth upwards—tongue still stuck on her aching clit—and slid two fingers back into her.
His movement was quick, desperate, excitable.
Everything that made her scream out in her room and see white stars.
   Squirt…squirt…!
Grey eyes glinted in surprise at her gushing release, Volo happily scrapped more juices out of her and slurped it in a delightful manner. Grin bursting a smile, he swallowed every drop. His nose gently nuzzled her happy trail, tickling his cheeks that were bright red.
Finally, he moved away, mouth lightly panting and a trail of her release connected to the tip of his jutted tongue.
Suddenly feeling tired, Akari sprawled one arm above her eyes. Shame was back in full force, disabling her from properly seeing the man who had just broken her to a point of bliss.
And judging by the feel of his body against hers, they knew he wasn’t done.
“Akari…” He nuzzled the nape of her neck, giving more delirious kisses on a spot right under her left ear. “Look at me…” Tone thick with wanton, Volo gently held her right hand and pried it away from her face.
Once he looked at her, he almost let out a shameless groan.
Heat flushed from face to the tips of her ears. Gorgeous black eyes were even more breath-taking, taken over by blown out pupils. Her eyes were misty, hazy, trickled with tears at the corners.
Leaning down, he gingerly licked the tears away.
   “…me…”
Her voice was a murmur, a breath that brushed his face.
“Hmm?” He pulled upwards; a single eyebrow raised.
“I said…” Collecting the courage that slowly seeped within, Akari slid her hands around his neck and head. “Fuck me…” Though very sensitive, she craved more. Her pussy throbbed still, both from the release and the need to have something thicker. Black eyes glanced downwards. A single saliva slid down her throat to see his cock positioned so, so closely to her gaping entrance.
   She heard a sharp breath.
Meekly, she looked up, then stifled a moan to see such deranged admiration for her.
Mouth broken to a pursed line, Volo held his cock. Up and down, he rubbed it, fingers brushing against the veins inside his hard, pulsating dick. The touch made it beat, and he found it pathetic that he was just as sensitive as her. Gaze never torn from the woman under him, he gently rubbed the bulbous head against her pussy lips.
Teeth gritted back a moan. He saw that she instead let out hers.
Up and down, he brushed against her. Strings of precum painted her lower lips, tip peeking just briefly before Volo pulled it out.
She knew damn well he wanted her to say it again.
   Damn him. Damn him.
Having enough of his teasing, Akari wrapped her legs around his waist.
Drawing enough bravery as if she was facing a terrifying Alpha in the wild, Akari looked at him in the eye and moaned, “Fuck me, Volo…”
The words were enough to light a fire back.
With a strained chuckle, he entered her.
The feeling of his cock against her wet walls drew out a long, deep groan from him.
She felt tight. She felt amazing.
“Haa…my Akari…” His hips snapped against her. He slid in so easily, then held perfectly still so that he didn’t cum here and now. Elbows lay planted against the soft futon, positioned nicely next to the sides of her head. He felt her legs release their grip, yet their never left his waist.
One hand tangled in his hair yet again, Akari cocked her head upwards and sighed beautifully. She felt so full. Her pussy twitched and tightened, eliciting a tremble and a growl that slurred deliciously into her left ear.
“Don’t tempt me, my dear…” Slowly, he moved. In and out, his cock moved inside her. One tongue traced the shell of her left ear, tickling a shiver from his beloved. Head nuzzled against hers, Volo gently adjusted his movements, changing from slow to not-as-slow in an agonizing pace. His hips connected with hers, touching in a way that felt like brushes of a feather.
Sometimes, it irked Akari that he chose to be thoughtful at the worst of times.
Once again, her wrapped around him. “Faster…” she whispered, cheeks nuzzling against his. “Please fuck me fa—ah—ster…” She raised her hips, meeting him halfway in a single snap that made them flinch.
Sometimes, it amazed Volo that she chose to be ruthless at the best of times.
Taking a deep breath. Volo moved away and straightened his positioned in a kneel. In a second blink, hands had now held her waist.
In a fourth blink, a mixture of gasps and moans filled the air.
Shlip! His cock fucked her deep. Slap, slap, shlip—! His cock kissed her womb.
The sudden change of pace again broke out another scream. In and out she felt him move. Butt lifted off the futon, Akari only let her body being used like a fuck doll as he thrusted to his liking. Eyes glazed with heady lust; she felt her eyeballs roll to the back of her head as she felt his skin brush against her clit.
Shlip, shlip, shlip! In. Out. In. Out. He fucked her without pause. Hands had moved to the sides of her chest, thumbs flicking her nipples which only made her jerk. Wide grey eyes watched as her hair sprawled above her head like waves of halos. Truly, she was beautiful. And truly, she belonged to him and no one else.
Why was he a fool who had almost lost the only angel who had dropped from the pitiful heavens for him?
“I love y-you…” The word stuttered. Slurred. “I love you. I love you…!” Carefully, he leaned forward until palms were pressed next to the sides of her head. “Say you love me, Akari.” Not once did he tear his gaze from her. “Say it…! Say you love me—!”
   Shlip!
“Ah—I love you!” The sudden snap caused her confession to come out as a harsh breath. Relentless and rough, Akari tried her best to focus on the man above her.
Blonde hair cascaded to the sides of his head. Lips pink and parted, slightly swollen from their kisses. Cheeks a luxurious shade of red, further intensifying the beauty he had since the first day she saw him.
   Truly, he was hers.
Hands moved to his face, palms cupping each hot cheek. “I love you so much.” No matter where she was. “I love—you!” No matter who she was. “I—a-ah—love you so much, Volo!” Her life was preordained. And despite all that had happened, she was still given a chance to taste such an intense, honest love.
His movements grew erratic. Her lower stomach coiled.
Lost in the cloud of love and lust, Akari pulled him closer. Their mouth clashed together, breaking a moan from the man which let her tongue tangle with his. Eyes squeezed shut, Akari tightened her legs around him, pressing him further until she purred to feel his cock deep into her womb.
Eyes rolled upwards at the unbearable sensation, Volo slid his arms around her chest, locking her arms as well in place. With one final push, he came into her. Spurts of white cum gushed inside, filling her entirely. He felt her legs twitch and jerk. He felt her hips raise and still.
Silence then filled the thick air.
Thankfully, an open window caused by Belial’s actions enabled some fresh air to enter through. While summer still welcomed itself, the soothing breeze soothed their skins that were coated in sweat and dust.
Deep breaths slowed to even ones. Her hands slid from his head to his shoulders. Fatigue finally weighing heavily on her body, Akari limply dropped her arms to the sides. Though eyes closed, she whined meekly to feel his cheek nuzzling hers.
   “I love you…”
Ba-dump! Ah, it seems that her heart needed some time to get used to that.
Slowly pulling out, Volo dropped to the side. Eyes ever focused on the woman next to him, he gently held her left shoulders. “Akari…” Voice quite hoarse from the whole ordeal, he quietly urged her to face him.
Their hearts and minds connected so well as Akari turned to the right.
Their gazes met, glossy and pooled with love. Her legs entangled with his, feeling his warmth amidst the cool breeze. Lower lip quivered to a pout, Akari brought one hand up. Softly, she brushed his hair, tucking some blonde strands to the back of his ear. Slim fingers caressed his right cheek, thumb brushing his lips that were soft and inviting.
Chu… A kiss was bestowed on her thumb.
Black eyes met a pair of greys. Gone was the animosity that possessed him a few hours ago. Now all that’s left was love—pure and true. No matter how many times she looked at him, Akari could never deny her heart that yearned for her past and their future.
   She was a fool.
A fool who was blessed by Arceus itself.
Sorrow suddenly glimmered in her iris. “What if you don’t trust me again…”
A flinch was felt on the palm of her hand.
Realizing what she meant, a frown tugged the corner of his mouth. “I…” Truly, he didn’t know. If he were to reassure her, what made him think that it was enough to reassure himself? He had hurt her enough—physically, emotionally, and mentally—and yet, she chose to stay if it means chasing each other’s happiness. She was the prophecy by Arceus itself, the one who brought him down to ruins.
And yet, she was also the woman he loved, the one who gifted him the ray of hope he long sought after.
   He was a fool.
A fool who was toyed by Arceus itself.
Her patience made his heart heavy. Finally, frown tickled to a small smile, Volo held the hand on his face and brought it to his mouth.
   Chu. “I will try…”
   It was a start.
   An actual promise.
No malice. No deceit. Only sincerity caressed the back of her fingers, reminding her the very reason why they were meant to be.
   It actually reassured her.
Mouth finally curling to a simple smile, Akari huffed out a giggle. Amused by her reality, she timidly slid closer to him. “If you ever think I’ll cheat on you again…” She tipped her head, brushing her nose on his chin, “I’ll make sure Belial will burn you alive.”
Part of her was joking. Another part of her absolutely wasn’t.
   Volo knew this so well.
Amused by her threat, Volo placed a kiss on the top of her head. “Very well,” was all he said. Carefully, he pulled her up until his lips met her forehead next. Left arm slid under the side of her head, hand squeezing her right shoulder while right arm wrapped around her back. Fingers caressed her skin littered with scars and faded bruises. Each gentle brush was a silent wish of comforting her, easing Akari of the pain this world had befallen on her.
Even if he was part of this world.
Heart full and breathing hitched, Volo pulled her closer. “I love you…” Face nuzzled on her thick, black hair. “I love you so much…”
If someone had told Akari that she would find her soulmate 500 years in the past, she would have either dismissed it or laughed it off.
   But now…
“I love you too…” Arms tucked together between their chests, Akari looked up. A smile was accompanied by adorable cheeks, burning and painting a picture of sheer bliss.
Chu… Their lips met for a kiss, one so soft, so delicate, yet so filled with affection.
