The edges of her vision are black, and something hurts. Actually, everything hurts. She can feel the fizzle of magic on her fingers, used and depleted. She knows it landed on Fjord, willed every ounce of her strength left to ensure he'd be okay. They needed him. Jester yelps softly, her gaze dropping down to the dagger than currently pinned her to the ground. She had no strength to tug at the hilt, and no magic left to close the wound. She just needed to stay awake until someone else came. Jester turned her head, exhaling deeply. She was so sleepy, it would be so much easier to sleep until someone came for her...Someone would right? Her bottom lip trembled, blue fingertips now stained red.

Shadows left behind
closed starter for @featherstcnes - Percival de Rolo
Emon. Being back in the bustling heart of Tal'dorei still felt like a dream after breaking free from the hazardous nightmare that had been rescuing Whitestone.
The Briarwoods seemed to have left a mark on all of them, Percy most of all. Vex'ahlia wasn't a stranger to the terrors of the darkness but the Vampire and his necromantically inclined wife might have left even her a little shaken. The keep helped. After they'd cleaned what remained of the destrucion caused by Delilah's minions as well as the city guard truly started to feel like home. Her own room held a specific place for her bow and quiver, there were more then one change of clothes in the makeshift wardrobe and the bed was comfortable. Something inside her couldn't wait to fill it with memories and trinkets from their adventures, even though her own, most important Trinket slept soundly right outside her window.
She wasn't the only one that started to feel more at ease. Percy seemed to barely leave his workshop, always excited for new projects, Scanlan and Grog were out most of the time, surely causing some kind of mischief and her brother... well he spent his time moping or visiting Gilmore whatever good that could bring about.
A couple of hours after dawn she decided to knock on the door to Percy's workshop in the east wing. Their rooms lay next to each other and she hadn't heard him come or go during the night. After given entry permission she set down a cup with morning brew infront of him. "Percy, Dear. You might want to sleep in an actual bed then just knock out at your workbench eventually." Vex suggested, her voice mostly teasing but it held a sense of worry. "I'm heading into Emon for market day, care to join me? I'm sure you're running low on... everything? by now?"
The workshop was filled with piles of gears, blackpowder, mechanisms, mostly things she couldn't even place but it felt like a good idea to get him out of this room for a bit.

@featherstcnes you already know what it is

if she blinks, she can almost see herself back there. laying under the comforting shade of the tree. she can almost feel rhaenyra lying in her lap, her warm body against her own, promising things that they both knew weren't possible. even back then, alicent had known it would've been impossible to follow her. that didn't stop the almost obsessive lure, one she's tried to crush under her foot for years now. one that's been nothing but a distant buzzing in the back of her mind. "you speak as if from a distant dream," rhaenyra says, her voice shaky and eyes glossy with tears, not unlike her own.
she doesn't know the words for how she feels. perhaps, in another universe, she'd be able to understand it. she'd be able to part her lips and confess the truth. to tell rhaenyra that she's the only one she's ever loved, the only one she's ever fallen for. that the only freedom she's ever longed for lies with her. that her salvation comes from rhaenyra's forgiveness. as dearly as she loves her children, nothing has ever compared to this. the confession dances on the tip of her tongue. she wants to embrace rhaenyra, wants to pull her close, to beg.
all of this passes in the blink of an eye. she steps forward, and speaks the words in a way she only knows how. "come with me," she says, her heart pounding against her chest. rhaenyra moves, in dragon-like movements, sucking in a breath and her eyes rimmed with fresh tears. i want to fly with you on dragonback and eat only cake, she wants to say, a reminder of the past and a promise of the future. instead, she trembles, and wonders how freedom will feel when she has to face it still chained to her love she'll never fully let go of.

@featherstcnes / starter call.
He didn't turn for a few minutes. If she was there to kill him, she'd have done it by now. Tossing one more bale, he stood for a second, taking in the last bit of peace he'd have for a while if her visit meant anything.
Back in Romania, he'd never let his guard down. He'd been waiting for someone to recognise his face, even in that far away place. Waited for one of the many organisations hunting him down. Bucky had known for some time he could just go to Steve. But he hadn't wanted to, not until he was... better. Stupid idea. That, of course, had been taken out of his hands.
A Widow finding him wasn't exactly surprising. One taking the time to visit him in Wakanda, however, was.
"Natalia," he said, just loud enough to carry. "Or do you prefer Natasha now?"

a few times a month nesta makes the trip with calista, her pegasus, to the night court. her usual visits last two days, sometimes three, depending on matters in her own court. as well as who will be in velaris at the times of her visits. after what happened between her and cassian, nesta had feyre’s help in scheduling which days would be best to visit, wanting to avoid him at all costs. while she was here she would either stay at the house of wind or the moonstone palace. they were safer choices than feyre’s and rhysand’s riverfront house, where cassian would most likely show up at.
perhaps that made her somewhat of a coward, to not want to stay at her sister’s just so she could avoid her mate. her mate who had broken her heart entirely and nesta was sure it would never recover. it felt as if a part of her had died, she felt so hollow and ripped to shreds. at first she never wanted to see her sisters again, never wanted to return to this court. the court he chose over her. but she decided she wouldn’t let a male ruin her relationship with her sisters, the three of them had overcome so much to let such a thing happen.
nesta had been on the moonstone palace’s veranda, giving calista her late night snack and bidding her goodnight. some strange feeling came over, making her tense up. instinctively, she reached for her power in case she had to wield it, and began walking down the hallway. everything in her went cold and stilled as she beheld the all too familiar figure in the sitting area. she had built up a mental shield against the mating bond, so strong and thick she hadn’t even been able to tell her own mate was here. too many emotions were washing over her to the point where she felt dizzy and borderline nauseous. she wanted to claw at his face for what he had done to her, to them. they were supposed to be together for eternity, build a life together, a family together. and he ruined it all.
she had to turn off her emotions, shove them down inside of her like she had in the past. the mind stilling technique she had perfected was her saving grace. an icy look appeared on her face. “feyre said you were to be in illyria for a few days.” nesta didn’t put it past her sister to lie to her about cassian. it was clear both her and rhysand wanted the two to work things out. if this all had been a setup she would demand her sister only come to see her at the dusk court from now on.
#i was going to start off with the soft fluffy stuff and decided no let's get this going with some angst lmao#💕#( verse : high lady of the dusk court )#featherstcnes

__________🏹 EVERY MUSCLE ALONG HER BACK SCREAMS AS SHE PRACTICES LANDING ONCE MORE. a bit more confident this time, though she stumbles yet again on the last step, her body unsure of how to handle the new weight of her wings. she lets out a few choice words under her breath as her arms reach forward to act as a counterbalance, lest she fall face first into the dirt. once satisfied that she'll stay on her feet, she rises to her full height, grey eyes catching sight of her shifted creations from the corners of her vision. ❛ i'll get it next time. ❜ she promises, more so to herself than to him ( a war is looming; she has no choice but to be ready when her court needs her )

" i love you. "
i’m never going to let you go ever again, daisy. ever. you know i’m not letting you go ever again, right?
in those days since thanos's defeat, the two of them had stayed true to those promises they'd made each other the first night that natasha came back. as the world around them slowly started to rebuild, they did the same; making the little house on the lake their home, helping the avengers rebuild, donating their help and their time to where they were needed. waking up every day beside each other was something they refused to take for granted. sometimes, daisy still woke up in the middle of the night, sweating and breathing heavily, recalling those brief moments where natasha had been truly dead and gone. sometimes, it took a few moments to come back to reality, and she would have to roll over and cling to natasha's sleeping body until reality settled in. she knew nothing would heal it but time, but it didn't make it any easier. natasha woke up from nightmares, too; making the two of them, just two broken people just trying to heal each other.
today had been a long day. shield had started to rebuild, and although they weren't asking for daisy to fully come back, she still consulted, helping coulson and the others build a team of inhumans to help around the planet. after a couple of hours at the new shield base, she'd met natasha just outside of one of her orphanages, which was in the process of rebuilding itself, too. although many people's parents had come back after the snap was reversed, many kids came back to their parents gone. their job trying to repair the planet was never going to be quite done.
now, as night rolled around and they finally found themselves back in their home, they'd had a brief discussion on how the day had gone over dinner before they found themselves on the couch, not-watching some new tv show (hollywood was working on overdrive now) on low volume.
during those five years, she remembered moments like this, where they could never fully relax, shoulders always a little stiff. there was always an underlying tension. to say there wasn't one now would be a lie, but she found she could sleep far better now, she could actually relax. she feared how her nights would be if natasha had stayed dead. would she even still be here, or would she have run off somewhere? would she have dedicated her whole life to finding her again, to bringing her back?
she didn't like to think about it. and honestly, she didn't really need to anymore. as the tv shifted into a lighter scene, brightening the darkened room, she pulled away from natasha's lips to smile down at her. they'd been laying here, natasha lying on her back beneath her, kissing lazily for who knows how long. after all, they had all the time in the world now. it was cold out, but she felt warm all over as she leaned back down, pressing her lips to the underside of natasha's jaw, feeling the softness of her skin as she drifted along her neck.
i love you, she wanted to exclaim. she had taken to saying it more often -- even if natasha couldn't say it back, didn't mean that she didn't deserve to hear it. even i love you didn't feel like enough these days. how did you tell someone that you would crawl out of your grave just to get one last look at their face after you died? how did you tell someone that you've never considered religion to be anything but a lie until you'd laid with her, and realized that religion was nothing but the stain of wine on her lips, the feeling of her body under your own, the galaxies that you could read in her eyes?
no, i love you didn't cover it. not even close. she hoped that her worship was evident in her hands, in the way that her fingertips grazed natasha's skin as she felt goosebumps follow their path down to her thighs. she pressed her lips to natasha's collarbone, feeling the pulse of her heart, letting it meld into her mind as she remembered that natasha was here, she was alive, and that she'd never stop being grateful for it.
their legs were entangled; she shifted them to give her more room, allowing her knee to rest between natasha's legs as she tilted her head back up to press a kiss to her lips. slow and sensual, she took her time, memorizing every place where their bodies connected. she'd had dreams like this before, where they were just laying down and kissing, only for her to pull away and feel the coldness settle in as natasha looked up at her with dead eyes. it was a muddled memory, but she felt it in her bones as she clung to every little bit of warmth she could feel; as she held natasha's hips with her hands to hold her in place, as she dragged her tongue across natasha's bottom teeth and felt the warmth of her breath and how it made her dizzy.
when their lips parted again, she buried her head in natasha's neck, breathing her in. breaking the silence, she spoke quietly, barely audible over the tv. "you're so perfect," she mumbled; it was the worship in action, of course she knew neither of them were perfect. that somehow made her more perfect in her eyes. "every little bit of you."
she heard natasha let out a little breath. it could've been a chuckle, could've been a sigh. whatever it was, her response were words whispered back just as quietly, and she felt her veins alight and her body freeze as natasha whispered;
"i love you."
just mere moments ago, she had thought that i love you didn't cover everything that she felt. she thought that they were mere words, spoken by everyone on the planet, and couldn't properly capture how she felt.
she had been wrong.
hearing natasha say it, hearing her whisper it, like it was a revelation, a truth, was unlike any moment she'd ever experienced. she'd never pushed natasha to say it, and hadn't expected it from her. she knew natasha loved her -- she always made a point to show her -- but hearing it was something else entirely. any remaining, subconscious tension faded from her body, as though those words itself had freed her of any pain, any sorrow that was still remaining in her bones. when she lifted her head, she felt the prickling of tears behind her eyes. suddenly the room was too small. suddenly she wanted to be outside, shouting her love from the rooftops, writing fucking sonnets and poems so that people a thousand years from now could understand exactly how she felt in that moment.
she met natasha's eyes, saw the words repeated in that intense gaze, and allowed herself a smile. her lips shook as she did so, and she leaned down to kiss her, if only to prevent herself from fully crying. her hands let go of natasha's hips, instead placing her palms on her cheeks as she kissed her deeply, until the world felt completely centered in this room, until her lungs burned and begged her to pull away to breathe.
"i love you too," she whispered once she did pull away, a little breathless. the sob still sat on her chest, but she laughed instead -- an expression of pure joy she had gone years barely expressing. as far as she was concerned, nothing could hurt her now. nothing could hurt them. "so much. i love you more than anything. i love you how the moon loves the stars, and just as loyally."
as if to prove her point, she leaned back down to kiss her, once quickly and then again over her chest and collarbone; every part she could reach. it was nothing but pure devotion and love, and she wouldn't stop until she expressed all of that love. until their souls melded, until they were so close together that not even god himself could tear them apart.
until she showed, beyond a shadow of a doubt, just how much she loved her, too.

she shook her head, "me, smug?" yelena pretended she couldn't imagine what natasha could be seeing. she got to make decisions about her own life and her own actions now. she knew already that this could still weigh heavy on her, almost as heavy as what she'd done before if she wasn't careful. "you would have," she was sure of that, or at least natasha would have done something like it. she was resourceful. she nudged her softly, "let's not talk about this anymore. it's been done." yelena thought about what might lighten the mood for them both. "let's eat." she was craving a grilled cheese the more she thought about it, but anything would do.

Elain anxiously twirled the ring on her fourth finger of her left hand, frustration beginning to show on delicate features. He wasn't that late, and she was sure there was probably a logical reason; but she still felt like this somehow was a slight at their predicament. It wasn't like she was thrilled about their impending nuptials, which were still a bit aways. She honestly wasn't sure what his family was getting out of the deal, Elain was very aware that her family had basically sold her off. Why did they need him to marry her?
Her family had promised a pretty face, demure by all accounts...a good girl. Supposedly a perfect example of being well behaved. Elain could vomit at the lies they'd fed, and her palms bore the scars of how deeply her nails had dug into her flesh. She could be all those things, but Elain had also been a bit of a wild child alongside her younger sister Feyre. Often overlooked simply for being born in the middle. There was little choice for her now however, they needed money and out of her three sisters it seemed easiest to get rid of her. Nesta was too headstrong, and Feyre was too young.
Elain shifted, glancing down at her attire. A strapless dress of dusty blue, it reached her mid-thigh and paired well with her white chunky heels. She should care what he'd think, but she still tugged at her hair.
She wondered what he would be like, having been noticeably absent when their families had met and signed the contracts. Elain hadn't even seen a picture of him, just a notification from his family that he would meet her at this restaurant for dinner. Sighing softly, Elain checked her phone one last time. It felt almost pitiful, looking like she'd been stood up.

Memories of home
closed starter for @featherstcnes - Laudna
"Be careful, my lady. Not all might be as it seems" Her husbands words still reverberated in her mind and heart. She had told him not to worry, that he knew very well she could take care of herself and that there was no reason to hold contempt for people who came to their home in search for aid rather then wanting to cause them and their family harm. Still her mind was with her children as well, naturally wanting to protect them from the harms of this world but knowing that they were far too smart and perceptive to not know what was going on. And so Gwendolyn had tried to follow her to the Orchards this morning, though Vex found out before they left the confines of the castle grounds.
Now, Vex'ahlia was standing at the edge of the orchards and gardens, miles of reclaimed farmland, the edge of town that bordered the forests. She was always more comfortable in nature. A second set of steps let her turn and a friendly smile appeared on her features as she saw Laudna approach, a little more color in her face then there'd been last night after they had achieved what Bell's Hells had hoped for.
"Laudna, I'm glad you could join me. I hope you didn't take leaving your friends behind as a slight." Vex stepped forward, her formal attire from the days prior abandoned for more familiar hunting clothes. Fenthras was strung across her shoulders along with a quiver of arrows. Not that she needed them but it felt familiar. "I wanted to show you something." Vex inclined her head, waiting for the darkhaired woman to catch up to her, then she started leading her towards the trees.

i do believe that there's no more tricks up my sleeve. / percy for vex
shame, shame memes / accepting
vex'ahlia stood upright, rolling her shoulders back as she surveyed the damage in front of her. three gnoll bodies -- nothing that was a huge danger necessarily, but still an annoying grievance to their trip. it was typical that one short, half-day "romantic" outing had turned into this, but -- at least it meant life never got boring. plus, vex'ahlia would be lying if she said that seeing percy look all ruffled and messy wasn't a bigger turn on than him looking proper.
"well, i think we got them all, darling," she replied, tilting her head and grinning teasingly as she approached him. a hand reached out, adjusting his ruffled collar. her fingers drifted upwards, gently cupping his jaw. she felt her chest warm at the sight of those familiar eyes. gnolls be damned, she would happily fight a million if it meant she would fight alongside him.
(she missed vax every day, of course she did. a piece of her would always be missing. but with percy by her side, and the children they'd brought into their lives, the world still felt whole, even with him gone.)
"are you sure you have no more tricks up your sleeve? not even for me?" she flirted, brushing her nails gently over his cheek as she cupped his face, bringing him in so she could press a quick kiss to his lips. it wasn't exactly a romantic day away, but she would take what she could get. it still counted as a romantic getaway if the romance was had against the stone next to the rotting gnoll bodies, right?

@featherstcnes : ‘ so they just get to get away with this? ’ / from nat !
"Did I say that?" he snapped before turning away from her. Bucky knew it wasn't Nat he was angry with, it was himself. It wasn't fair to take it out on her. "God, 'course they won't. It's just... we're too late again. Fuck."
Wrenching the mask off his face, he tossed it across the room, hardly caring where the damn thing ended up. It had been for effect this time, nothing more. He knew how to get more if he ever needed them. God, he hoped he'd never need them again. But if HYDRA was gonna keep being a problem, he was going to keep feeling responsible for taking them out. And nothing would make them shit themselves more than their own ghost coming for them.
With a growl of frustration, he kicked a nearby crate, the wood exploding under his boot and the contents scattering across the blood soaked floor. Most of the gore was contained on the lower floors, the faces that would haunt his nightmares for the next few days at least. But that didn't mean they hadn't had to fight their way in here. Most of them had already been taken out – having your kneecap shot out wasn't the most fun, and medical would be having a field day.
"I just want," he started, sitting heavily on another crate and looking up at her. "I want to get here before they get the chance to have anything to get away with. I feel like we're constantly reacting to 'em. I just... I wanna help."

“ you are so much stronger and braver than you think. ” / from azriel !
the past couple of months after the blood rite had been quiet, putting nesta on edge. the threat of koschei still lingered and it was only a matter of time before he made a move. from what she’s heard about him, she hopes that move isn’t him finding a way to free himself from that lake. there was also the remaining queens to worry about, as well as another war that is sure to come. then there was vassa. no one else seemed to be concerned about her, but something about her irked nesta when she had first met her right after the war. perhaps it was jealousy, the way the girl had told her nesta’s father was a better father to her than her own made her blood boil. even thinking about it now has the same effect on her. nesta didn’t like her one bit. those threats plagued her and no amount of training or spending time with her friends and mate could silence those worries.
“it’s not a matter of how strong or brave i think i am. it’s a matter of how long i’m able to be those things before it becomes too much. or worse, what if it’s not enough?” she chewed on her bottom lip with worry. “we’re all aware of the multiple threats we’re to face in the near future. the valkyries and i have been training every day, but what if that’s not enough? i have my magic, but i don’t exactly know how it works and neither does anyone else so i can’t even train in that. i have so much more to lose now than i did during the war with hybern. i have friends, my family, a mate who i love and want a future with.”
before she realized it, tears were stinging her eyes, but she quickly wiped at them before they could fall. it was a habit of her’s to keep emotions like this in, to keep the problems that ate away at her in and then exploding when it all became too much. she swallowed the lump that formed in her throat. “i finally have a life i love and i don’t want to lose it. i’m not sure i’m brave or strong enough for that.”
sensing her distress the house made a cup of tea appear on the coffee table before her. earning an airly chuckle from nesta who picked it up and sipped it gratefully. even the house of wind was a dear friend of hers. “now with nyx in the picture, it adds another person on my list of people i care about. ..another person that i can lose. you’ve been a fae for centuries, is it always like this? constantly being on alert for a threat, constantly worrying about the people you love? because that’s all it’s been since i’ve been made and i’m not sure i can do centuries of that.”

"I think so too. You're very Fjord now" Teasing, tossed over her shoulder with a smile before a laugh bubbled out. Her gaze turned back forward, the smile settling on her face as he answered. She liked the answer, liked knowing that the people around her were happy. "Of course we care Fjord" Jester felt her toes slip, her face momentarily dipping under the water before she's able to gain her footing again and spit the water out.
When she resurfaced, his next words made her heart flutter. Someone ought to tell Fjord that when he said someone's name, he shouldn't say it like that. It made it all that much harder to tell exactly how he felt about her. Tiptoeing back into shallower water (essentially where she didn't have to struggle so hard) her gaze looked over Fjord. "I think the feeling is very mutual...for me and everyone else" She beamed at him, slowly beginning to make her way out of the water. It was going to be a lot more difficult for her to dry off.
"You know, I think this is the most fun I've had in a long time" And considering that Jester somehow always managed to find fun in things...it was a high compliment to Fjord. Taking a seat on the sand, the tiefling began to tug off a few extra layers of her clothing with a laugh. "You're a lot of fun when you want to be, you know"
it was easy to laugh, to find himself getting lost in the moment in times like these. with a laugh at her words, nodding along. " noted. though i don't think anyone ever doubted you didn't play around when it came to sweets, " he commented, moving to sit up in the water before attempting to stand. his clothes were soaked, sure, but they could dry off quickly. it was warm enough where the sun would soak through their clothes and get them dry.
as jester moved further away into the water, he followed, though kept just enough distance between them where he was close yet not too close. " i don't know, i wouldn't say i miss it. i mean, i think i'm more me than i ever have been. " maybe it was too deep of an answer in relation to her question, but he couldn't take back the words after they'd left his lips. " i like the now. i like having people around that have my back. people that actually care, you know? "
still, he'd love to not be running for his life half the time, but he figured a little excitement never hurt anyone. and he liked the nein. he liked spending his days with a bit of chaos slipped in to some really good times with his friends. " i like this, jester. " he paused, his feet allowing him to stay anchored to the sand just enough so he didn't have to float. " and sure, maybe it'd be nice to not have to worry about there being danger all of the time, but i wouldn't want to be doing any of this with anyone else. "

i can be your family.
despite the chill temperature of the current season, daisy was warm all over. she laid comfortably in bed, natasha laying on her, skin to skin contact warming her right down to her bones. unfortunately, the warmth nothing to ease her mind. in the quiet of the room, it was easy to let thoughts she'd been trying to avoid wash over her mind like waves.
her eyes were shut, head back on the pillow, arm propped up on her pillow, other wrapped around natasha as she laid her head on daisy's chest. they'd been talking for a better part of thirty minutes now. daisy felt exhausted, her eyes far too heavy, but sleep didn't come to her, try as she might. she's just about to finally, finally drift off when she heard natasha speak, whispering into the darkness.
she had just been talking about the topic that seemed to be the only thing she could think about these days, save for a few special moments where she was distracted otherwise. the loss of coulson and all of her friends felt like a heavy weight on her heart. she had been right in front of them when they'd disappeared, completely unaware of what was happening. eventually, she had wandered her way to the compound for help -- and by then, she had lost everyone and was starting to forget what it was like with them.
she'd never had family. every "family" she'd ever found herself stuck with as a child didn't hesitate to hand her back when she outlived her novelty. shield had been the first people to feel anything like family to her. even her own parents were only in her life for a brief moment. the world would feel far more cold and lonely if not for the woman she'd come to meet in that compound, who had been listening to her for the past five minutes as she explained, in detail, how she'd lost so many and how, sometimes, she felt like that alone little girl again.
her eyes opened slowly. she tilted her head away from natasha so that when she looked down, she met her eyes. the waves in her mind slowed as she caught herself entranced in the storms of her eyes. he arm around natasha squeezed her a little tighter. a lazy, sleepy smile crossed her lips as the words registered. she'd cry, but she'd already cried enough lately. instead, she let her eyes tell the story as they softened; she was genuinely touched. and of course she'd considered asking her the same thing but she'd never wanted to push.
"you already are," she replied, leaning in to press a kiss to natasha's forehead. "you already are."

the amount of blood didn't disturb her. she'd seen much more and much worse. she'd seen the volcra in action, felt what it was like to have their claws in her face. she expected there were those to whom kaz brekker was their volcra, a nightmare of the worst kind.
"you're no comfort no matter the appearance." vasilissa would never admit to it, but of all the barrel's gang leaders she was most wary of kaz. he and his crows weren't ones to discount. she hoped none of this slight discomfort showed on the half of her face not hidden by the brown leather mask she wore. still, she found it useful to keep those she distrusted most close. "i know i'm not your wraith, and of course i do expect...compensation for bringing this intel to you instead of just keeping the job to myself, but you might be interested in some information."
