that doesn’t mean he won’t put a little effort for someone he cares about though

If you’re visbily upset and he catches on, he’ll be very upfront and bluntly asks you what’s wrong

If you decide to tell him what’s wrong, he’ll patiently listen to you then he’ll just… stare at you silently for a bit with furrowed brows.

its slightly unnerving but bear with him, he’s evaluating what to do/say

The next bit depends on you personally,

He’ll attempt to comfort you depending on how you personally like to be consoled,

he’ll give you a hug, or buy you food, kiss you, give you a few awkward pats, sit with you until you feel better (unless he has something important to attend to. He’ll finish it in a flash then come right back, though)

if you want him to give you advice… don’t ❤️

He tries his best but his advice is rather… ignorant, if you will.

He simply doesn’t understand normal people issues so he might say something to the equivalent of “Just don’t be sad.” “Just ignore it.” “You’re being a bit dramatic.”

But even he’s aware of his incompetence when it comes to these things so he’ll try his best to keep his thoughts to himself.

If you don’t tell him what’s wrong and give him an abrupt “I’m fine.”, again, he’ll stare at you with a frown then go

He’ll check on you later, and won’t bring up the matter if your demeanor is back to normal. But if he senses that you’re still agitated, he’ll start pressing on about whats bothering you.

If you still don’t tell him he’ll get a bit frustrated, but will collect himself and will get you some of your favorite food/drink to subtly make you feel better.

zip-zap, a gust of wind and he’s holding up a bag of your favorite delicacies before you.

Now in the scenario that he catches you crying, his reaction would be stiffer but inwardly frantic.

I don’t think this man even knew that communication was a thing before getting into a relationship, unless its about communicating where his next hero assignment is, maybe.

“Hey, what’s wrong?!” Typical.

He’ll fetch you a box of tissues and tenderly hold you until you’re able to collect yourself.

He is going to be bothered if you get snot on him, but doesn’t say anything about it of course. Not the time nor place.

Again, will let you rant about what’s bothering you without interjecting, maybe a few questions and comments here and there.

”Honestly. That’s not worth your tears. You’re above that.”

He does NOT like seeing you hurt, it bothers him a lot because it feels like he had failed you somehow, even if the reason was inevitable and wasn’t remotely his fault.

That being said, he’ll try his best to prevent whatever (or whoever) is bothering you from happening again, but he’ll do it in a kind of, ‘behind the scenes’, type of way, yk?

Now, if you don’t tell him what’s wrong, he gets more frustrated. How can he possibly help you if he doesn’t know what’s going on? Especially if you’re this affected by it?

Once you’ve relatively calmed down, he will really try to push you to talk to him, in an almost overbearing sense.

He’s read the concept of “some people just need to be comforted, not to have you fix their problems.” before, I mean, that’s how he’s been able to do all this, but he just doesn’t understand.

He felt useless, honestly, not being able to help you.

Maybe one day he’ll finally come to truly understand that him just being there and trying his best, even when it’s challenging for him, is helping his partner enough.

I digress, if he feels like now he’s being troublesome to you by his insistence, he’ll stop and then focus on making you feel better, even if it still bothers him a bit.

I should preface this by saying; he’s stiff in every single bullet point. He’s not TOO stiff, but he’s a little rigid nonetheless.

This is simply new to him.

Also, when he does succeed in making you feel better, it WILL boost his ego. Very prideful man, naturally becomes more prideful at any new accomplishment. Especially when it comes to you. A bit of humbling is necessary.

Small add-on: This is based on the scenario that he’s been in this relationship (platonic or romantic, or even something else) for quite some time and is putting in the effort to become a better significant other. I don’t believe this would come purely natural from him but instead from a place of extreme care for the (emotional) wellness and satisfaction of the other party.

is there anything i'd change or do differently with overwinter?

my knee-jerk reaction is to say 'NO' simply because the thought of returning to this fic to change anything stresses me out viscerally.

i thought about overwinter so hard for so long that having it out in the world where i can't overthink it or worry about it has been so freeing for me. i love the fic because of how much it's helped me grow as a writer, but the growing pains genuinely frustrated me to tears at certain points along the way. also - the process was long enough that i did go back and edit and change a lot of things already, so there's like... minimal content in it that has not been worked over and over and over.

i think that at this point, i don't have enough temporal space from overwinter yet to make this call, honestly. i'm still processing her.

so i guess to answer: no! there's not anything off the top of my head that i'd change about overwinter. she is what she is ✨

gepard omegaverse headcanons

so this has been cooking in my head for quite a while now, but i've only just typed it up.

⚠️ cw : internalized homophobia , internalized discrimination against omegas (?) 

can be taken as reader-insert, gender-neutral, but there's one (1) mention of a hypothetical scenario where they have a vagina / ovaries. like 1-2 bullets only, about pregnancy. i'll put it in color red if anyone wants to avoid it. feel free to send me a message on how to word it properly, or if i should change anything

general headcanons

omega. smells like winter pine with a tad of cinnamon and a lingering floral scent. the more pleased he is, the more prominent the floral tones.

no one knows of his dynamic except for his family, and a few high-ranking senior officers and doctors of the guard (including the supreme guardian and pela, a family friend). he’s been raised as an alpha, and everyone in belobog sees him as one.

uses both scent-blocker patches and heat suppressants regularly. it’s a must for any member of the silvermane guards, especially those in the frontlines and on patrols. while his scent normally wouldn’t be a problem, it gets sickeningly sweet during pre-heats, so he has to use the patches. fortunately, he hasn’t experienced any problems with heat suppressants yet.

prefers to spend heats alone. while the original gepard wouldn’t even think of having a vacation for himself, in this verse he’s more likely to do it (whether he wants to or not). at least once a year, he tapers down his heat suppressants to maintain his body’s natural hormone cycle— letting him have his heat. 

he’s ashamed of it, wishes that he was born as something else. but it didn’t matter what he wanted. the people need him to be this indestructible shield for belobog. a powerful alpha, not… whatever he was right now. it’s even worse when he remembers how his sisters were both alphas. why was he the only one burdened with this? he tries not to think about it by drowning himself in work

with an alpha

it takes a while for him to warm up to them. after all, he’s been raised to act like one. he doesn’t want to give in to his instincts. it was a good thing he was pretty disciplined! (read as: used to not getting what he wanted / not being in control of his life)

you need to be a gentle alpha to win this captain’s heart. he still has to come to terms with and be more forgiving of himself. let him touch you freely. explore your scent glands and canines. it gives him a sense of control, making him more relaxed

steals your clothes. yes, even if you’re smaller than him. if you lose an article of clothing, it’s most likely with gepard as he stays at the restricted zone for months. be careful when sending him letters with items like a handkerchief, anything with your scent. he might just go into premature heat (and he’ll be sent home. whether this is a win or not is up for debate)

with a beta

the most comfortable match for gepard. there’s no pressure to conform with the standard alpha/omega partnership. he won’t accidentally go into heat with a you due to lack of a strong scent, and you won’t go crazy when you smell him. he can just be a normal person around you

your lack of strong scent won’t stop him from nuzzling into your scent glands, though. you do have a scent, it’s just a bit.. subtle. not overwhelming like an alpha’s or omega’s— and he’s obsessed with it. like drinking cold water on a hot and humid day, it has no taste but you can’t help but keep drinking it, right? be prepared for a lot of cuddling!! he’ll do anything to get a whiff of you

in my verse… unfortunately, if the beta has a vagina / ovaries / uterus etc. as their reproductive system, they cannot get an omega pregnant. they can get surgery for this, but i imagine it isn’t quite available in jarilo-vi yet

if this is the case, gepard would be quite sad as he wants a family. but maybe after a long talk, he’ll come to accept that there are other methods of having one.

with an omega

gepard appreciates that there’s someone who can understand him. raised in a conservative family (i imagine, have you read “landau’s choice?”), it would bother him first. internally. but he’ll come around later on to accept that he liked you.

afraid of exposing his dynamic at first. would you still accept him? he’s hidden his dynamic all his life. what if you leave him after? would you be disgusted at the idea of him, an omega, liking you, another omega? please be patient with him. he’ll tell you when he’s ready

being with you also makes his alpha upbringing come up. he thinks that you should be protected, and doesn’t mind if you use him as a shield for any other alphas that want you (one of the benefits of appearing as an alpha to the masses)

out of all the relationships/dynamics listed, i think this is the most likely one that doesn’t start off as love. it’s more of a shared comfort or friendship, and gradually becomes something more.

I THOUGHT NOBODY WOULD EVER ASK!!! /silly I don't have the energy to draw right now, but I see both AM and HAL on two ends of a spectrum. HAL has a very regal and respective air to him, along with just generally dressing in a very well put together fashion. Meanwhile AM has this fucked up feral cat energy that doesn't give two fucks about how his actions could affect someone, as long as he gets a kick out of it. I see HAL as a more put together android-esque body, with the only thing being visibly wrong with his body is the one missing eye, while his active one is red like his actual eye! Cartridge slots in his back which helps him process things and is like his memory bank, slicked back black hair, wires running from his missing eye and to the back of his neck...besides that pretty well built ! with a core right at his abdomen, acting as all the organs he needs to function properly and even processing food that he eats. :] HAL usually does all his self cleaning protocols and can care for himself rather easily, he's very efficient in doing so; but that doesn't stop him from letting others pamper him every so often, he adores it and will sit in comfortable silence if someone is doing his hair or fixing up his wires if they are causing him issues. Now for AM, that guy is all sorts of fucked up, an amalgamation of both machine and flesh. He doesn't care about his clothing as long as it's not a sensory nightmare to him, and it doesn't make him look like an utter fool. Most of the time he's probably wearing a cloak to conceal his body due to dysphoria with it (A.I can have body dysphoria too <3). And the reason why he experiences it? His body is so incomplete. Underneath that cloak is exposed wires and pseudo-bones, with a see through kind of cage that holds his organs; kind of like a brain in a glass jar! I see half of his face also being messed up, but more of scarred up way. Lacerations running upwards instead of a usual downwards, making his mouth and eye slightly upturned and leaking constant fluid that needs to be cleaned when overflowing. His hair is messy and probably shades darker than it actually is due to just the amounts of dirt and stuff staining it. Dark brown? No, his hair is actually a pretty chestnut once you wash it, good luck trying to wash it though, like he'd let you.
