What is the first thing your WoL does when they get to Tural?

Found some questions rummaging through the xiv tags while I wait for this social event to start so send a number and I'll answer it? Feel free to reblog and do the same.

1. Where were they during the Calamity? 

2. How did they acquire their Echo? 

3. Does their Echo function like it does in the MSQ? Or is there a twist to it? 

4. Do they have a canon mount or minion? What's its name(s)? 

5. Where are they from? What was their childhood like?

6. How did they deal with the massacre on the Waking Sands?  

7. How did they deal with Haurchefant's death? 

8. How did they feel about the liberation of Ala Mhigo? Do they feel it could have been handled differently? Where they at all bothered by how they were involved?

Little WoL / non-WoL character question.

Is there a non-player character or NPC that reflects how your OC might have turned out if circumstances had been only slightly different? For better or worse.

If your OC is aware of this, then does it make them more sympathetic to that character? Or more jealous of them? Or simply fill them with an intense visceral hatred?

I've not been playing ffxiv for a crazy long time. I'm not like a super veteran that's been around for 10 years or anything like that. But I have been around for almost a year and have become very familiar with a lot of aspects of the game. (Still haven't finished MSQ yet though, don't judge me)

With that being said, I heard dynamis is very much filled to the brim with sprouts and I absolutely thrive with helping people. One of my favorite things is to show people how to do things and help them when they're struggling.

Taking all that into consideration, i do also like being able to chill and do casual roulettes without worrying about it taking an hour. Do you think it's worth transferring from Primal (Lamia) to the Dynamis DC? How badly do you think it'll affect my queue times? Would it be feasible to start up a new FC there?

WoL/FFXIV OC Question!!

Which of the 6 element(s) do you tend to associate with your WoL/OC? Why?

Ok so my plan tonight was to get onto FFXIV and clear Heavensward. I am primarily a solo player, but I figured I should be fine. However as it turns out, I was wrong. Very wrong. So anyways, does anyone on the FFXIV side of Tumblr know how to deal with the last boss in The Aetherochemical Research Facility?

For reference, I main PLD, and the dungeon caps at level 60 so I do not have access to the Holy Spirit and Intervene abilities. I have gone through all of my available job quests as well.

In terms of progression, I’ve made it through all of the dungeon without much difficulty, I just spent 40 or so minutes on the last boss. I did this on Duty Support (the one with the NPC party) so while I didn’t get any actual advice, I picked up on some of the boss mechanics at least.

While I’m just requesting advice, I’m fully open to people offering to join a party to help me out a bit. I just play alone most of the time because admittedly, I am a slow learner and do not want to hold others back.

While I won’t be able to get on until later in the afternoon, if anyone does want to temporarily join a party, my DMs are open and I can give my information for the home world I’m on there! (Though I can try to visit a different home world instead ofc) I play on the Aether (NA) server specifically though.

11. — heartbeat

I definately took this in a broad direction!

It started with a flash, next heat, then finally a bang.

The airship shudders violently from the following shockwave, the thrumming heartbeat of the engine struggling to stabilise and keep the vessel aloft. A worn and bloodied hand feverishly grasps onto any surface, the other tugging at a slipping boy’s shirt lest they tumble and be thrown off-deck and down to the desert below.

It’s past the ringing in his ears that Saeed now hears the clamorous yelling of both his companions and the bangaa crew, each so desperately trying to make sense of the chaos around them, soon all drowned out once more by the roaring engines of the departing Empire fleet, lead by the hulking, ominous form of the Dalriada. 

A job fulfilled in their eyes, their part played.

The hyur stumbles, realising how his legs tremble. A mixture of exhaustion from running and rising horror, the cold grasp of dread clawing in his chest, each breath sharp and painful.

Saeed’s hands struggle to make purchase upon the railing, slick with sweat, grime and blood, he forcefully pulls himself upward and onward to stand with the gathering group at the stern of the airship, yells having now died down into murmurs.

Parting through the crowd he looks over, beyond the vast stretch of the Dalmasca Estersand and towards the city they left behind. Cyan blue flames rise from its epicentre towards the amber sky, sun not long for vanishing behind the horizon, its warm golden glow streaking past in rays through billowing clouds of blackened smoke and ash. The Royal Palace, normally rising pride of place, sits teetered to the side, a large gaping hole within its sandstone towers.

It takes all effort for Saeed to pull his eyes away from the horrifying visage painting the desert landscape, once more pushing his way through the group and now towards the bow, to the gathered bangaa hastily tending to the worn and old machinery making up the engine.

One turns with a grunt, setting down his tools. Red scales worn and scarred, draped in once colourful and patterned fabrics, now pale and sunbleached from time, yet still the Bista-clan bangaa held an air of authority over his crew, but stood with equal respect to the older hyur standing before him. His dark eyes narrow, rings adorning his long ears jingling as he tilts his head in question. “Well?”

There were many things they could say between the both of them; the shared loss of their home, the anger that was beginning to rise in their chests, a million plans of action turning away in their heads. But there was no sense in it. Not now, lest they make themselves sitting ducks for an Empire still on the hunt. Cut to the matter at hand, everything can come later.

“Take us to Neimrahava.”

Rock and Hard Place

I know the title reads like a fanfic thing - but this is actually a question from Jigs' mun. Sorry if I threw any of you for a loop.

Background:

I joined FFXIV because I got a bug about wanting to tank stuff where tanking mattered. FFXIV was great because it was required for a lot of content, and seemingly the tank classes can do fine on their own for open world stuff. We just take our time with things.

I expected to be mostly on my own with the game but as a big surprise some friends I met through other games decided to follow me in. To support everyone, I started a little FC for us, we ended up getting a house, and spend an hour or two most weekends running some roulettes. I'm the only one where FFXIV is a main game/interest. There's seemingly no interest in the group moving on to another game, but at the same time, no one else is looking to play any more than they do already.

The Point:

I'm craving some more social interaction in the game as the bulk of it outside of the FC hour long weekend runs tends to be the random conversation that pops up when Praetorium is my MSQ roulette.

I know statics and linkshells are things that are kind of outside an FC - but really have no idea how or where to advertise myself for that kind of stuff.

The other option I'm seeing is to start a new toon, drag their pally butt through 400+ hours of content, and pick up an FC for them along the way. The bright side with that option is the lull in content before Dawntrail will give me something to do, and I can also do a tail-less toon so I can wear some of the stuff with full capes without cringing. But 400+ hours feels very intimidating at the moment.

I know this is pretty cringe - but I'm trying to find out if there are options I haven't thought about; or find out what others have done, or would do if they were in my position. I appreciate your understanding.

(Hope I’m doing this right) So in the event that either Magnai or Vali get sick (a cold, flu, etc), how do they care for each other (or how does one convince the other to rest)?

Vali is a bit of a sickness denier! She doesn't want to admit when she's feeling under the weather and will go to great lengths to make it appear as though she's healthy. This tends to annoy Magnai a bit because he worries that she'll over exert herself (again) and will stay sick even longer. Magnai has found that the best remedy is to keep her busy at home. He may not be able to keep her in bed but she'll definitely take on a task (like knitting him a scarf because he 'casually' mentioned that winter was coming and he might need one). She'll sit for hours working on said task until she can't do it any longer or it's finished. She still hasn't caught on to this! Once tired she's easier to convince so this is the moment he strikes with bed and a bowl of stew.

Magnai allows Vali to fuss over him when he is ill. He doesn't mind that Vali has strict orders of bed rest, hearty helpings of warrior's stew, and warm blankets. She studied under A-Ruhn-Senna. She learned a thing or two about how to care for others in times of need and found she's a natural when it comes to bedside manners. Magnai is much less inclined to listen to anyone else though. To anyone other than Vali he's definitely not sick because, "The Sun never loses his radiance."

So, for context, Avi’li didn’t feel like he belonged with the Scions in ARR. It was a working relationship out of necessity, and he fully intended to cut ties with them after Gaius and the primal threat was done with. One more event held in Ul’dah, and he would say goodbye to them and go back to working with the Arcanist and Rogue guilds. Unfortunately, that event was the Bloody Banquet, so he never got the opportunity to end their working relationship.

With this in mind…he was not close to Minfilia. He felt like a means to an end for the Scions, and he was not receptive to her genuine attempts to get closer and make a connection with him. When she called him her confidant, he could not return that feeling.

It’s something he regrets now. Looking back he can see she was also lonely, like he was, and was trying to connect to the one person she felt could understand best. He regrets not meeting her halfway, especially after taking on so many sacrifices on his and everyone’s behalf.

now here is a question for FF14 Tumblr: What the fuck is that underbarrel thing on the (Dead) Hive Musketoon? Is it a secondary barrel? Something to fold down and to be used as brace? Can you detach it and it acts as a secondary gun since that end kinda looks like another trigger/stock?

WoL/FFXIV OC Question(s)!

What is your WoL/OC's favorite/most used weapon? Does it have a name? Is there something special about it, like cool powers or special materials to make it? Maybe some sentimental significance?

Kind of a strange question, but does anyone know where I would be able to find a photo of the Moon Daisy from FFXIV? I’m planning on using it as reference for a tattoo I’ve been wanting to get for a while, but it occurred to me that we don’t actually see it.

The closest thing I can think of would be the fact we visibly have them during a level 50 quest that’s either close to the end of ARR or close to the start of HW, but the issue is that they use the same model as the Dravanian Lily that’s used in a later sidequest, which makes me wonder if the model used was the Dravanian Lily instead.

I have been doing some digging and can’t find anything online, in-game, in Art of Eorzea, or in Encyclopedia Eorzea volumes I-III. Is it just in one of the concept art books I don’t have yet? If so, which one?

Ship Thingy - Saeed & Tansui (going for something a little less obvious)

Oh MAN it's been a long time since I played through Stormblood, so I had to refresh myself on some of the story that involved Tansui! Love how you've given me a minor NPC!

... I could see something here.

Saeed honestly respects the balls on this man for squaring up against imperials and demanding the Ruby Tithe be paid regardless of who they were. He's a man who knows that in some cases, words are better than violence, but still isn't afraid to get his hands dirty when the situation calls on it.

Both of them have things in common, like coming from misfortunate beginnings, having to undertake shadier lifestyles to get by whilst still having heart to care for those around them. They both actually undertook the task of caring for and looking after orphans and lost waifs that came their way. Something to bond over!

In terms of attraction... It's a yes. Saeed admittadly likes men with long hair (like himself ahaha), and the little bit of scruff on Tansui's face certainly suits him.

Also, since Saeed is super tall... Height difference!

I could see them having a very no PDA thing going on (Tansui strikes me as someone that keeps up professional airs when out and about), but in private quarters it's certainly simple yet tender gestures. Little things that other's would take for granted, personal acts of service and whatnot! Saeed is more show-y in terms of affection, but he's willing to reign it in if a partner prefers something more subtle.
