I just saw this moment again on twitter where it was the Run BTS ep where they put those cat ears that supposedly move based on what you were feeling, and Jimin's ears move quite a bit when Yoongi was talking about his pink hair in INU and called himself a grapefruit (lol I genuinely love this man).

I completely forgot about this moment!!!! I remember when I first watched the episode I was in shambles because what was that???? And now I have the same reaction lol. I can't seem to find any explanation other than Jimin thought of Yoongi in his pink hair and liked the idea a lot (maybe he also remembered their memories at that time). I can't say in what way he liked the idea, because that would be speculation, but I do have my opinion because come on! Just look at his body language and the way he got so flustered when his ears moved. And they moved so much lmao. They perked up and were wiggling.

I don't know if you've talked about this moment in detail, but if you haven't, please do. I genuinely wanna hear your thoughts. And if you want to speculate, also please do lol.

It’s been over a year since I wrote that post, but looking at it again, my thoughts haven’t changed. 😉

“ So, let’s think about this for a minute. Jimin’s ears betrayed him here! He was trying to keep a straight face while listening to Yoongi talk about his pink I Need U era hair. But thanks to the cat ears, we know that Jimin was feeling anything but neutral during this conversation. Those ears are objective. They aren’t shippers or non-shippers. They don’t have an agenda. So, to me, this is really interesting because it suggests that what Jimin wanted to express and what was happening in his mind were two different things. ”

So, what inspired Jimin to have a strong reaction to “grapefruit Yoongi”? It could be the memory of Yoongi with pink hair, or their memories from summer package 2015, or simply the fact that Yoongi was fibbing about being called a grapefruit and Jimin knew it. Or maybe he was enjoying watching Yoongi talk while wearing the cute little cat ears. In a way, I’m not sure the exact reason matters. The moment inspired a reaction from Jimin that he attempted to hide, and then he got flustered when he realized the ears had moved. 🙈

Namjoon then asked if Jimin was angry (?), and Jimin said “No. No. Yoongi-hyung…” and the conversation moves on. I’m not sure what that was about exactly. Cuteness aggression? Or Joon trying to help give Jimin an excuse for his ears moving? I wish I knew!

The whole thing was really fascinating. I’d love to see them do an episode like this again when they return!

||. I've written two mini-meta on his biggest lie (his 2011 facade) before, so I won't go into that one again.... Thor is contrarily a very sincere person. If he doesn't have anything good to say, or if he can't agree to something outright but can't deny it either, or otherwise is in a position where he might need to be dishonest or unkind to someone in good standing with him, Thor doesn't say anything at all.

Or if he does, he'll word it in a way that gives him a loophole out of it, and then proceed to abide by that. Thor doesn't (usually) lie intentionally unless it's for a specific gain, something he can't entirely agree to, and usually to further benefit the lives or plans of his friends and allies.

To my count, he's only ever lied on screen 4 times.

2011 - Only bowing his head to Selvig during the bar scene and not actually giving his word that he'll leave Puente Antiguo and Jane Foster behind)

2013 - Purposefully misdirecting Loki and leaving him out of the "Get Jane out of Asgard" Heist

2013 - The entire "get Jane out of Asgard" Heist and attempting to misdirect Malekith into destroying the Aether (which I'm only counting because it's deliberate treason against his father. which he only did because odin refused to at least attempt to make sure Thor's plan would go off smoothly)

2015 - Electing to not bring up to Steve Rogers that he can lift Mjolnir (though this, they both knew)

I might be missing some small fibs here and there, but Thor is an incredibly honest person, so I doubt it's very much more than 4. (I guess you could also count Thor telling Jane he'll return for her and then not doing that for 2 years, but that's less of a lie and more of a broken promise; he fully intended to return and chose not to after the drama of his family escalated to the point of insanity.)

As far as the lie that Thor believes and will state as if it's truth? That he isn't worthy to be king. Tangentially also: that he would lose himself as king, the same way his father did. It's his "resistance to reality", so to speak.

Thor can talk and believe all he wants that he isn't the king his father would want, and he isn't a worthy steward of the title, that he's afraid he'll drown in the politics of the matter instead of being a good king... never realizing that that heart is exactly what would make him a good king. And a good man at that. He already has the qualities, he already has the skills... the only person who neglects to see this is Thor himself. (and where his character arc should have ended him: finally seeing that he has always been worthy, and not because a hammer (see: his father) told him so.)

This is an homage to a fan theory I’ve become really fond of over the years -- that the whole cycloptopus incident that cold-opens “Dungeons, Dungeons & More Dungeons” was staged by Ford (and the cycloptopus) as a way for him to interact with and perhaps get on the good side of his family.

I can’t take credit for this theory: here (2018) are some posts (2018) from the past (2016) in which people floated the idea or discussed it.  (Hubris basement!)

Do I think this is what the show intended?  Probably not -- I have to point to the bit where Dipper falls in and the jar holding the cycloptopus breaks, and when Ford shows up the cycloptopus kind of shrinks back in fear.  That doesn’t suggest co-conspirators to me.  HOWEVER.  Honestly, everything else DOES.  For one thing, the show IS clear that “don’t let it taste human flesh!” was a... fib, because Ford is completely unconcerned when it latches onto his face later.  For another, even though he zapped it with the gloves and it got burned, a fairly short time later it looks completely normal, so zapping it didn’t seem to have much effect on it.  (In this theory, then, in which it volunteers, we have to assume that it didn’t actually mind being zapped that much.)

Come to think of it, the idea that Ford planned this WITH the cycloptopus may be a new wrinkle that I’ve introduced.  Although this cartoon from 2015 is also suggestive of a non-adversarial cycloptopus.

I keep thinking about this…Jimin starts out by saying, “it might be odd to you…”. Why does he think it would be odd to us?* Perhaps it’s because there is more to this pair than what we are able to see? Perhaps it’s because the biggest yoonmin moments didn’t happen on-stage or on-camera, we just heard about them later? And people who don’t listen to what the guys say, or believe that 90% of what they say is a fib, have missed their connection completely? Could that be it?

Think of the yoonmin moments we never saw: Jimin watching Yoongi play with Holly the puppy. Sushi back in 2015 when Yoongi sneakily paid the bill while Jimin was distracted while tying his shoe. Sushi in 2023 at a restaurant that wasn’t yet open to the public. Staying up all night talking. Jimin watching Yoongi do his shoulder rehab. Yoongi comforting Jimin when he found him crying before a performance. Yoongi speaking to Jimin from the top bunk, saying he wants him to be a part of the team. Yoongi and Jimin having drinks the day after the bulk of the D-Day tour was complete. I could go on…

Maybe Jimin understands that a lot of people overlook all of this. We can’t put it in slo-mo and set it to romantic music. I mean, I suppose we can do this with the clips of them telling us about these moments, but that isn’t the same. So it’s just completely lost on some people.

So, Jimin acknowledges that we might be surprised to know that he’s “been in touch with Yoongi a lot these days,” and he “talks to him on the phone a lot, too.” Hmm.

Don’t worry, Jimin. I promise there are some of us who don’t find it odd at all. 😉
