do you ever read children's books to ripley, or heard of another parrot owner who does that? i wonder if he'd like his own copy of Go Dog Go!

When Ripley was very young, I found it a little awkward to talk to him. But I knew if I wanted him to trust and understand me (and maybe eventually participate in conversations) I would have to get comfortable talking at him. So I started by reading fiction to him, and occasionally poetry. He really enjoyed it, and still does. These days he offers commentary when I read to him, but more often than that I just talk to him about my day. He seems to appreciate when I do silly voices. Most recently I read him the Moby Dick Popup Book.

Thank goodness I have no particular interest in knitting, crocheting, weaving, etc., and am therefore immune to yarn. I'm already plagued enough by the urge to Acquire Fabric, and I can't imagine how much worse it must be for people who both sew and do yarn stuff, and are therefore tempted by both!
