Read a very long scaremongering post about internet culture and the loss of community and it ended with "do you even know the names of your neighbours?" ...as if that was a big gotcha?

Like yeah I do, on one side is Stuart and Rena who are expecting their second grandchild very soon, and on the other side is Mark and his new missus Tracey and his son Ben (who is moving out soon). We send each other Christmas cards and compliment each other's Christmas and Halloween decorations. We bring each other's bins in.

If you want community with your neighbours you just have to accept that it's going to be a little awkward at first and push through the discomfort to make the barest of efforts.

I was definitely glad we already knew each other on the day I woke up at 7am to realise our gas hob had been leaking overnight and the house was full of gas. Mark next door saw the fire engine pull up, came out to see what was going on, and brought us into his house for a cuppa while we waited for the all clear.

Do you view Lemon Demon as having "eras" and if so what are they....

early lemon demon/teen lemon demon: clown circus, live from the haunted candle shop, hip to the javabean (2003-2004)

even though javabean has a huge leap in quality, I usually pair these albums together. since both clown circus and lfthcs were made before neil even turned 17 in 2003, they're a packaged deal to me. really just having fun and figuring things out, not really too serious until later.

pre-classic: damn skippy (2005)

damn skippy is another insane leap in quality, but isn't quite what "classic lemon demon" implies just yet. it makes sense that his 2005 album is within a stage of lemon demon finally formulating a proper identity.

classic era: dinosaurchestra, view-monster, (2006-2008)

I think this is when lemon demon was most defined. there's a very specific fit of nostalgia applied to these albums, I'm not entirely sure how to explain it but based on listens you can probably understand what I mean here. this is mostly what I think of when I think of "lemon demon".

modern era: almanac 2009, live (only not), I am become christmas, nature tapes, spirit phone etc (2009-present)

this is when neil had his musical breakthrough and lemon demon changed forever as a band. huge leap in quality thanks to a boost of confidence from the creation of eighth wonder (hence the almanac 2009 inclusion). I think it's nice he grappled what kind of music he wanted to make, even if 2012-2016 was a particularly experimental era for him.
