The Contrast Between Lin Ling and Yang Cheng is really Fascinating because of how both Similar and Different they are. (Spoilers below)

Similarities

-Both of them Dream of being heroes

-Witnessing a Death involving a hero is what set them on the path they were on.

-Both have girls they are in love with but hesitate to make the first move.

-Both of them risk their lives to save someone even when they dont have the power to do anything

-They both inspired trust after people witnessed them fight.

-Their old job involved making Heroes look good.

-Both have people they love and ended up having them leave while they pursued their own goals.

-Both end up becoming versions of the previous hero and end up being BETTER than the previous

-Both lost people they loved right in front of them, and E-Soul was involved

-Both were manipulated by people in the hero game to get something they wanted.

-Both got a SUDDEN boost in trust and it altered them to the point of making them like the hero they were impersonating.

But the direction their tales take is completely different

Now after those similarities, you realize how OPPOSITE their tales are.

Differences

-Yang Cheng started out impersonating E-Soul and eventually overtook him from his own desire. Lin Ling was cast as Nice's replacement after Nice's death and took over to cover it up.

-Yang Cheng eventually became E-Soul completely. While Lin Ling cast aside his role as Nice and became a hero in his Own right.

-Yang Cheng chose the hero life and had the girl he was into put aside, while Lin Ling did everything for the girl he loved and even sacrificed his role as Nice to save her when he thought she was in danger.

-Enlightener was an Ally to Yang Cheng while an Adversary to Lin Ling

-Lin Ling watched Nice take his own life, While Yang Cheng killed E-Soul to take his spot.

-Lin Ling's story has him taking his own path while Yang Cheng's was manipulated by his Uncle.

In the end, both are in the same place, in the top 10 hero rankings, but both have VERY different mental states at the end of it.

Do you ever think about how Tara spent a year – an entire year – tending to a horribly depressed and traumatised Gale. That she spent so much time and energy going out to find him magical items, bringing them back.

And then maybe one day – after a year! – she finally got him to venture outside again. To walk in the streets with her, maybe take a little trip to the beach.

And maybe she had to cajole him, tell him that yes, something bad happened, but the world isn't laughing at you. Nothing bad will happen if you just... come outside with me. Maybe shave first.

So Gale comes with her, because all his arguments are worn down and he knows she's right. And he's looking around at the water, in the middle of saying You're right, Tara, I needed this.

And this giant nautiloid – the first seen in hundreds or thousands of years - just appears in the sky, hangs there for a moment, hoovers up Gale, and disappears again.

No wonder she's cranky.

- i kinda like that she ended up looking like a mother-of-pearl inlay lacquerware!

- oh this was a subconscious choice, but Gale is sitting in seiza which is a posture for showing respect especially to elders. it's also known to be a painful position to sit in for extended periods of time, which is why it was sometimes used as a method of (morally dubious) punishment. however, experienced people can maintain this posture for much longer. food for thought :-)

I didn't fall in love with a God, Gale. I didn't even fall in love with an Archmage.

I fell in love with a man from Waterdeep, shovelling the shit with the rest of us. I fell in love with a man who would sit by the pot for hours, making sure it wouldn't boil over. I fell in love with a man who I imagined I could kiss, not because he showcased his potential power, but because it looked lovely when he blushed.

Can Gods blush, Gale?

OOF this one HURT!! It's non-canon to my playthrough, Gale is very much still just a guy and happy enough that way, but that one Everything Everywhere All At Once quote has been stuck in my head ever since I saw God!Gale for the first time. Gale's folly indeed.

The truth is Miraculous should have never made it this far. 10 years for this show is absurd. The finale should have been at least two years ago. Better shows have come and gone while Miraculous has been released. The show is dragging its feet into a post Monarch saga and people are jumping off. The original target demographic are now adults who are old enough to just be over it. And yeah a show like Rick & Morty has been around just as long, but let’s be honest. They’re not remotely the same.

To be fair, Covid did screw them up for about a year or 2. So that would have made an impact.

Though personally, I think Miraculous should have changed the characters, gone through a time skip where Marinette is a mentor.

That aside, there are a LOT of anime and Manga that are super ongoing and have followings. So I think it really just depends. ML is basically a french anime
