WHERE IS THE LIE
on a scale of lex luthor to elphaba thropp how do you handle your impending cancellation, commanding an army of monkeys, a betrayal by your blonde girlfriend, and getting someone's little dog, too and why is the answer blaming your life having gone to shit on a sweet kid from Kansas

what’s especially tragic to me is that elphaba will never know that her work did pay off, that she ultimately did make a difference, that oz was changed for the better. sure, she can hope and trust glinda will set things right and carry on her fight for the Animals, but she’ll have no way of knowing that she succeeded
I will always think Elphaba’s ending is more tragic than Glinda’s. Sure, she ran away with fiyero in the end, but there is no way they lived happily ever after
Elphaba was forced to surrender and run away in the end after the fight of her entire life was completely forced out of her. She lost her sister and her father and her only father figure. She can never see the one person that made the biggest difference in her life ever again. And she has to live with the fact that Glinda is suffering because of her “death” for the rest of her life.
Even if you look at the running away with fiyero aspect, it’s still a miserable ending. They can never come back to Oz. Elphaba spent 5 (?) years in the run and just when the battle is finally over (and she lost) she still can’t even live the rest of her life peacefully because obviously she and fiyero would have to hide anyways. A scarecrow and a green woman in the witch’s hat. There is nowhere else they can go.
Sure, Glinda ends up alone and without the one person that mattered to her, but at least when she dies she can die knowing that she did her absolute best to honor elphaba’s cause and (at least that’s how I interpret it) won the fight for the Animals. She can die knowing she accomplished something and that she honored Elphaba, while Elphaba will die without ever seeing her best friend again and never being able to live the rest of her life peacefully because she’s still a target and, if anyone knew, she would be in danger.
That’s why it ticks me off when people say stuff like Haha Elphaba ran away with the man in the end while Glinda suffered forever. How do you miss the point so bad. It’s a story about the love and connection between these two women and it ends up with them never being able to see each other again. It’s a tragedy in both sides.

"galinda is gay for elphaba" i say into the mic. the munchkins boo. i begin to walk off in shame as a voice speaks and commands silence from the room. "she's right" they say. i look for the owner of the voice. there she stands. its ariana grande.

This is SO CUTE!
We need Gelphie fanarts and fics but instead of Elphaba and Glinda from wicked it's the ones from the original the Wizard of Oz movie. Hear me out.

when people complain about how elphaba asks glinda for forgiveness in FG because "elphaba didn't do anything wrong" i kinda think they're missing the forest for the trees
first, glinda is hurting at that moment. we can pick apart how much of that is a result of her own choices and actions versus elphaba's choices, but i still think there's value in elphaba acknowledging her hurt, and that her actions may have contributed to that, and she's sorry she caused someone she loves pain
but more importantly, i think it's less about glinda needing an apology in that moment as it is elphaba needing forgiveness. so much of elphaba is tied up in guilt. in the books, her frustration over not being able to atone for her sins is literally the thing that kills her. NGD is literally her singing about how no matter how hard she tries to do good, her loved ones always end up suffering for her actions
and in this instance, i think glinda essentially saying "you are not entirely to blame for the bad things that happened, but i love you more than your wrongdoings and forgive you" is more powerful than "you've done nothing wrong you're perfect." and while FG is ofc a song about their love for each other, i think glinda granting elphaba forgiveness (while alleviating part of the blame), allows elphaba to forgive and make peace with herself, and ultimately heals much of her mental anguish
there's probably also something to be said about glinda forgiving elphaba for her sins, and then elphaba getting a bucket of water poured on her head, "killing" her while also allowing her to be "reborn" with a clean slate. you could go even further and relate this to how book glinda often serves as elphaba's proxy for god (elphaba prays at the alter of st glinda multiple times despite being a vocal atheist and their falling out is arguably what kickstarts the events of elphaba's death)

Elphaba: If anyone hurts you, I’ll hex them. Glinda: (teary eyed) Oh, Elphie... Fiyero: She literally watched me walk into a wall yesterday and said, “natural selection.”

Mermaid!Gelphie
Does anyone feel like the story of the little mermaid could perfectly be made into a Gelphie story? Putting Elphaba in the position of Ursula might not be a popular choice, but there are some similarities, certainly if you consider that all the information we get about Ursula is told from the side of the 'good' guys:
Technically part of the ruling family (though kept quiet/ not known)
Uniquely magically gifted
Rejected by fellow mermaid-kin because of appearance (I don't think the green skin would be a problem here, but the tentacles would definitely be)
Tries to help the 'poor unfortunate souls'
Does magic that technically achieves the desired goal, but it does have a cost and unintended side effects. (though not on purpose in Elphaba's case)
Any thoughts anyone?
