Half-formed thought here, but. Usually in my mind I assume that the topic of Abigail goes almost completely unspoken between Will and Hannibal post-canon, but... man. What if they were even more unhinged about it than that. Like, what if they displayed a massive portrait of her on the mantlepiece or something, as a symbol of Will getting Hannibalpilled and buying into the idea that her death was a sad but inevitable consequence of the force of nature that is Hannibal. And then everyone who visited the house assumed she was just a beloved relative of one of them or something, without knowing anything about the details of how she died (or even that she was dead). And whatever murder buddies/protégés/frenemies/pseudo-children/sexy little thirds/[whatever unholy combination of those things] Will and Hannibal acquired would piece together some very idealized understanding of her as the Perfect Dead Sister-Daughter that they could never measure up to, whose ghostly presence hangs over them... and then coming to the very macabre discovery that Hannibal was the one who killed her! I think that'd be neat.

Some hogcanons. notes (me rambling) under the cut
So silver was the reason i wanted to make this in the first place despite him looking the most on model (not entirely obviously, but i don't have many hcs for him). Mostly i wanted to draw his height compared to the other hedgehogs since him being freakishly tall despite being younger than sonic and shadow is funny. I saw someone say hes probably the most conventionally attractive hedgehog and i think that's true, hes a pretty boy and his fur/quills are really sleek and well maintained. The fluff on his chest is less spikey and more fluffy looking plus i put some fluff in his ears as well. I think his paws and nails are black and he doesn't wear eyeliner his lashes are just really long and hes got black markings on his eyes. Coming back to this after writing Amy's desc but i think hes genderqueer in some way idk maybe bigender i need to study him under a microscope some more every character i touch becomes transgender
Sonic has a few more added details, i like giving him a little nick in his ear and top surgery scars because that hog is trans. I haven't really seen many people give him stylized top surgery scars surprisingly, i tried to make his look kind of lightning bolty because uh something about him being fast. idk man. i think i imagined its similar to what itd look like for him to run in a zigzag? whatever i think it looks cool. I think his claws are kind of uneven and he doesn't really care too much about how they look especially since he just has them under gloves most of the time
Amy is fat because i said so, also i gave her wavier quills and heart markings everywhere. Her ears might look a little strange since it like implies her skin is making that heart shape but i imagine thats her fur spiking into the point. Her nails are painted the same red that shadows markings and stuff are mostly because i think them being besties is cute like. i see shadamy as a queer platonic relationship. Theyve always been my favorites im going to to make them as close as i want. Anyway, i think she and sonic are tied for having the shortest ears, and hers are the rounest (might make them even rounder the next time i draw her) also not entirely related to her design but i think shes transfem and genderfluid.
Shadow my son. im taking custody from black doom and gerald. anyway, i have the most headcanons for him because he is my absolute favorite guy ever he rots my brain. I think he and Amy are the same height, his rocket shoes are like platform/heels and so when he has them on he looks like Sonic's height or maybe a teeny tiny bit taller. I give his quills extra little spikes for no reason other than i think its cute, i could bullshit that its a black arms thing but idrc. What are black arms things though are his eyes and claws, his scelera is a more yellow compared to everyone elses (jaundiced as my friend put it. thanks endy) and i didn't draw it but his pupils are slits. Claws are long but are even longer when all the way out (retractable) his gloves are thick enough that he doesn't pierce them but he probably has a few spare pairs. Also not pictured but black arms related: his teeth are fucking razors, larger than the other hedgehogs and also serrated because i think thats cool. his tail is the longest out of all of them though i think it used to be longer but was lopped off in the name of science and never properly grew back. also his inhibitor rings are connected to a sort of device that does the task of being a proper gateway between his internal energy and the rings themselves, i didn't draw them but essentially its like a smaller ring that is embedded into his wrists i think. also hes trans but in a sort of alien way, i think the black arms can do the clownfish genderswap thing and shadow has it to a somewhat lesser degree its like an internal tshot i guess idfk
ok yeah thats all if u made it to the end thanks for reading the ramblings of a mad man

6 and 2 for Olivia!!! 😼
- @theselfshippingrose
MUWEHEHE
2- How easy is it for you to get them to laugh?
Pretty easy! For both of us- She’s always just in that smiley, happy mood around me, so it isn’t too hard.
6- Using flower language, assign them a flower.
Normally for a question like this, I’d be up to my head in research… But, I don’t want to hog the posts, so I’ll make it simple. The primrose. Firstly! It’s one of February’s staple flowers, like a birthstone, and that fits. Second, with flower language, a gift of them would be like saying “I can’t live without you,” which would be… fitting.. if I gave them to her
And third! The most important to me, these flowers have been represented in European folklore as a gateway to fairy realms, specifically with Scottish and Celtic tales. You know what else is a part of that mythos? The selkie. Easy as that!

The History of Ruin's Heir
What's "Ruin's Heir"?
Tumblr media
Ruin's Heir is a fantasy comic, published at ComicFury by me.
After the gateway to the realm of death has been shattered, the balance of the world has been disturbed, slowly being eaten away by the deadly matter know as "the ruin". Vervain, a young wolf, finds that he has a deep connection to the Grimgrove and its ruin. In order to prevent the inevitable, he must find his True Name.
First page was published 9th April 2023, but the history of this story goes way back to the year 2011. I have now written some of it down, mostly for myself, but if you have found yourself curious and want to give it a read, I welcome you with warmth.
Tumblr media
Nemorosa and Vervain
2011 - Parantajan oppipoika
The beginning
Tumblr media
At this point in my life I had spent about three years watching YouTube animated series about dogs.
I also did create my own series, several, even before this one, but never published those anywhere, and sadly I do not have them anymore. 2010 December I got my very first own computer, and I got absolutely hog-wild with the new-found freedom of interwebs.
At the age of 12, I finally created my very own YouTube account.
I of course had to create my very own dog (or in this case, wolf) series. I pulled out my trusty MsPaint, and started to work without too much thought about the plot, or anything.
Just wanted to do something, probably came up with the designs at the spur of the moment too.
Tumblr media
Juniper and Vervain
The series was called Parantajan oppipoika, until I changed the name to Apprentice, thinking that... English is cool? I don't think though that I ever succesfully released an episode with the new name, so Apprentice didn't really stick. So Parantajan oppipoika it is.
The series had 2 finished apisode, third one was left unfinished.
Which sounds kinda underwhelming. But despite its short visit at the time, Parantajan oppipoika would leave a mark in my heart that was waiting for its next opportunity to shine.
Story
Vervain, young member of the wolf pack, dreams nothing more than being a healer's apprentice. When the day comes that the pack's healer, Clover, chooses her apperentice, Vervain is very excited and hopeful about the end result. But he is left dissapointed, when instead of him, his friend Dandelion is chosen. Some days after the ceremony, Vervain notices that Dandelion seems very tired and absent, barely responding when he asks her anything. Without his knowledge, Dandelion has been suffering from the nightmarish visions she started to get after she was appointed as a healer's apprentice. Next evening, Vervain follows a raven, who guides him to find Dandelion at the forest, killed by a bear. Clover blaming herself, believes this was a sign that her decision was a mistake, and appoints Vervain as her new apprentice.
Poor Dandelion...
Inspirations
At the time, I have just got into Warrior Cats, and it was also very clear with Parantajan oppipoika. Pack's structure, nature themed names, and concept of the healer all came from there. I also remember that Vervain's name was taken straight from Watership Down, from the character with the same name.
Videos etc.
Not much material is left from this time, which is a big shame for me personally, as I would love to see the first 2 episodes again.
Though, some materials are still intact, and I'll cherish them.
The first opening of Parantajan oppipoika.
youtube
To this very day I still associate this song to Ruin's Heir. Kinda hoping that someday I could animate something to it...
Unfinished "new" opening
youtube
I remember being very, very proud of this one. And honestly, good for you, 12-13 years old Iro, you indeed did good. I think the development between these two openings are visible already.
Unfinished episode 3
(with a placeholder music, I think the original had The Lion King music), pretty short, but oh... the relic....
I think this is all I have to say about the first version of this story, for now.
Tumblr media
Hassireeee, Veervain
Tumblr media
2013 - Hour of the Wolf
The resurrection
Parantajan oppipoika went to the slumber for time being, and I didn't finish episode 3. If I remember right, I didn't do much with these characters after cancelling the series.
But, in 2013 they returned. I started to work on the reboot, called "Hour of the Wolf"
Tumblr media
I literally forgot it was called that. Anyways.
I must admit that I don't remember much specifics from this era, I found an outline for the planned episodes so nevermind about not remembering.
Once again, I was planning on making an animated series, but this time with less success than before. Not a single episode were finished.
But looking at the outline, there was a plan for 16 episodes in total.
Some aspects from 2011 version were kept, but some were also dropped. Vervain didn't want to be a healer anymore, and whole concept of healers seemed to be absent from this version in general. Instead story now focused more on the relationship between Vervain ja Raven, and also war that our main pack, Tyrmäinen, was having with "Bonefangs" pack.
Even though a lot has changed since this version of the story, it did an important groundwork for its future. A lot characters that exits nowadays, were created back then. Even some plot points, though with drastic changes, have stayed in some form.
Tumblr media
Sedum and Bracken
Tumblr media
Goldenrod, Bracken, Nuphar (down), Sedum, Woundwort, and Majalis
Characters
Sedum and Bracken were old faces from the 2011, but most of the pack's youngsters were created 2013. Nuphar, Pillwort, and Majalis are still part of the cast today. Twins Woundwort and Golderod were part of the story for a long time before being cut 2022.
Tumblr media
Vervain and Raven
Vervain bond with ravens was now strengthened. Especially with this one raven, who was also his father's old Guardian, and only thing that the villain, Elder, was truly afraid of. Raven's characterization, and purpose for the story has changed several times after this, but presence of the Raven has been kept strong ever since.
Story
After the death of Dandelion, Vervain finds an injured wolf named Juniper. She is taken in, and she warns the pack about approaching rival pack, Bonefangs, who she also was part of formerly. After the presence of bonefangs has been made known, security measures are tightened, and atmosphere in the pack gets heavy. At the same time, Vervain meets Raven, who seems to be his, and unknowingly to him, his deceased father's Guardian. War between the two wolf packs goes on, until tragedy strikes the pack, and it's rumored that among them there's a traitor…
Tumblr media
Elder, Vervain, and Raven
As I'm reading this outline now, I'm thinking "damn, I really did read Harry Potter back then didn't I?"
Some of the plotlines were almost straight from there...
Videos
Unfinished opening

Unfinished episode (I think)
youtube
Didn't get far, but cool.
Tumblr media
2015 - Kaarnen Herra
The new era
I still quite like this name I had. It's translated "Lord of the Raven", and I pretty much got it from Lord of the Rings. Good naming technique I would say.
Tumblr media
Apparently I started to do reboots every two years.
Once again, I wanted to make a youtube animated series. Because I never learn.
Though this time I learned a little bit, and opted out from making a fully animated series, and instead used minimal amount of pictures. Episode 1 was still left unfinished, because the workload still didn't fit me.
Tumblr media
Nemorosa and Vervain
This is probably when this story started to have more online presence. I'm still surprised when people leave a comment somewhere and actually know Vervain's name off the bat.
Even thought this is probably the point where magic wolves' hold over my brain capacity got stronger than ever before, it's also the era where I feel I made my biggest regret with this story. It was when I put feathers on their heads, unknowingly enforcing and contributing into racist stereotypes about native people. When I finally realized that this whole thing actually comes from a very harmful place, I decided that those feathers should be removed.
This is the time in my life I did a lot drawings and videos about Kaarnen Herra, but I can't say that I would feel comfortable sharing all of it so freely nowadays.
Story
Life at Tyrmänkä's pack has been ever so peaceful, until a weird strom rises. Vervain notices that this has made his friend Dandelion restless, and when he sees that she has went to the forest alone, he follows. Vervain stumbles on to the scene, when Dandelion is trying to bind down an angered spirit, costing her life. Spell however has got its hold on Vervain too, and slowly it rips more and more away his life. One way to save his own life would be to void the spell and release the spirit, but that would possibly cost his pack's life if done so. Luckily, helpful Raven and a stoat named Portimo wants to help him to find another way to save himself...
Tumblr media
Vervain and Bracken
Characters
This version brought many new characters, but for this I wanted to showcase these two selectet characters, which I feel have been more influential. Portimo and Tormentil.
Tumblr media
Tormentil and Portimo
Portimo
At first there was supposed to be three stoats, capable of merging into one big stoat monster, but at some point, three turned into just one character. (Stoat monster was however apparently kept at least some time after this, for some reason.)
Tumblr media
I can't remember where the idea of having a villanous small stoat came from, but I thank the past me of this. Nowadays it's hard to think of this story without Portimo.
Portimo changed a lot tings about the plot, and was even some sort of main villain of the series. Kuilunka, formerly Bonefangs, then became more sympathetic, although still antagonistics.
His name by the way is just a old finnish name for stoats. So his name is just Stoat 👍
Tormentil
Tormentil is a mix of old and new, as her intial inspiration came way back from 2011, from Parantajan oppipoika.
Back then Elder (who was named Vomitflower/Oksennuskukka back then.... I have found no proof that such flower exists, but it might be inspired by the plant called ipecacuanha, which is apparently named Oksetusjuuri in finnish).
Anyways, Elder/Vomitflower had a sidekick, whose trope was "even more sadistic than the boss". Back then her name was Cactus-spike.
Tumblr media
Cactus-spike got a massive overhaul designwise, and a new name, since I didn't want these wolves to know what cacti are. She pretty much became a new character, but fullfilling the same initial role as previously.
Her role also grew a lot from what I originally planned, mostly because I got a such positive feedback from her, and I wanted to utilize her potential more.

2019 - Goodbye animation
Finally I came to the conclusion that I can't work on this story in form of animation, and instead decided to try dip myself back into the wolrd of comics.
And by back I mean that I used to do a lot comics when I was 7-12 years old, but stopped working on those after getting more into doing animations instead.
There were actually two tries, before I started to publish pages publicly. First one I treated more like a test from the beginning, to see how it feels to work on the comic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Page 1. Ohto Page 2. Nemorosa and Vervain
End result was: It felt pretty nice. My confidence towards this new approach grew, and decided that this would be something I wanted to try in the long run.
I stopped this first run after 12 pages, reworked some aspects of the story, and started to work on the real deal.
But I clearly still had some things to learn....
Tumblr media
2020 - Setback
The plot got very big changes, with the threat of the apocalypse looming over the characters now. As I wanted to strengthen to conflict within the world, and make it affect the characters.
With these new additions, some new characters were also brought in (or old ones totally reworked).
Tumblr media
Everhalo and Ruinkeeper
New characters
Raven's character got a total overhaul. Now instead of being Vervain's companion, she became the Spirit of death, and was named Ruinkeeper.
This change also later contributed to why story's name was renamed Ruin's Heir (or the finnish name, Kalman lapsi). As I felt that no one would feel any lordiness over this Raven anymore, so I felt that it didn't fit anymore.
With the Spirit of death, there was also added Spirit of life, Everhalo. Who seems to have his own agenda in the grand scheme of things.
_
I worked on the first chapter, year had passed already and the chapter was close to the finish line.
I had done 34 pages, but finishing the last 7 pages felt too much.
Tumblr media
Tormentil, Elder, and Ruinkeeper
I believe that I did a mistake in complicating the backgrounds for the actual comic. Instead of doing a lined work like I did back in my first version, I tried to give it more painted look. So now it didn't feel so good to do anymore, and I felt like I had to do something differend...
So I did what you're always told to not to do when working on comics, and started over.
Tumblr media
2022- Ruin's Heir
This is the version I finally started to publish to ComicFury.
The scene did had some chages, but the basic idea was kept same. Tormentil needs to kill Ruinkeeper.
Some pages were reused, and the color palette kept same.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tormentil, Elder, and Ruinkeeper
I do count this and the previous version of chapter 1 in the same era, as the actual story has no big changes made between these.
Two characters had redesigns though, Elder and Vervain
Tumblr media
Elder (old and new)
Tumblr media
Vervain
Changing Vervain's design especially felt like I was about to do a crime. But just how with the name change, I just felt that his older design didn't work with his character anymore. Even though I had grown very attached to it.
Luckily, I can say that I'm now quite happy with his design.
The End
At this very moment I'm writing this paragraph, I'm working on the chapter two, with the last six pages work in progress. So far my feelings toward making this comic has been very positive, and it's one of the rays of joy that I have at the moment.
I admit it's one my fears that what if someday I'm not able to work on it anymore? But I guess it's no use to worry too much about the future, while still having this very moment at the hand.
Will I change my mind about this comic in two years? Could be plausible, when looking at my past set records of reboot after reboots. But it's okay, and I'm trying to follow my principle, which pretty much is "have fun."

THE HOLLOW PLACES by T. Kingfisher
RELEASE DATE: Oct. 6, 2020
A door to another world appears in a museum of oddities, but it’s no gateway to Narnia.
Rudderless after her divorce and terrified at the prospect of moving back in with her parents, 34-year-old Kara returns to where she grew up, quaint Hog Chapel, North Carolina, to stay with her beloved, kindly Uncle Earl, who calls her Carrot and owns the Glory to God Museum of Natural Wonders, Curiosities and Taxidermy. The museum is chock full of taxidermic animals (and more fantastical creatures) and an assortment of other strange and wondrous items, including a grizzled tabby cat named Beau, who keeps the mice from ravaging the exhibits.
It doesn’t take long for Kara to settle in, and she earns her keep by cataloging the museum’s collection. After hours, she enjoys hanging out with the gregarious (and often top-hatted) Simon, who works at the Black Hen coffee shop next door and regales Kara with outrageous stories from his Florida childhood. When Earl is hospitalized for knee surgery, Kara happily takes over the day-to-day work at the museum and enlists Simon’s help in patching a significant hole in the building’s drywall. Curiosity gets the best of Kara and Simon when they discover a dark corridor behind the hole, which leads to a door to an otherworldly place where willows whisper with the promise of horrors that soon threaten to spill out into Kara’s world. Luckily, Kara has Simon and maybe even a bit of help from some of the museum’s inhabitants. There are no cheap scares here, and while a few are Lovecraft-ian in flavor, they’re entirely of the author’s wonderfully twisted and endlessly fertile imagination, and readers will have no trouble rooting for the instantly likable Kara, who narrates, and the delightfully offbeat Simon.
The perfect tale for fans of horror with heart.

I fucking HATE working these stupid capitalist jobs--customer service, maintenance, manufacturing. It's fine for those who like that kind of thing, but they're either brutal or don't pay or both.
Now, just because of my brain, I don't really have the stomach to do just this one thing for months wand years, but if I could spend a few weeks sewing or embroidering and a few weeks doing bead work or whatever all else I've gotten into, and I could still pay my utilities and rent and so forth.
Personally, it wrecks my brain not to have the time and energy to use my hands to craft. Even putting kits together makes one feel closer to your possessions and you're more apt to take care of those things, which is, of course, a gateway to other skills and hobbies.
I think everyone who wants one really ought to pick up a hobby. Set aside just a few dollars from your check if you possibly can and start small and give something a try. Do not dive in whole hog. Start with acrylic yarn. Start with embroidering flour sack towels. Start by making a small purse or hat. Start small. Give it a nibble. Search on Facebook or Craigslist or in Goodwill or other thrift stores.
Get in touch with your hands and eyes and your possessions.
sometimes i think about how capitalism destroyed craftsmanship and i cry

*Why do you seem to mostly write RE rarepairs?* Is a question I asked myself a lot. At first (and the number one main reason) it was that I like this pair, they speak to me and are interesting/hot to me together. Later it was 'oh, cause I just like monster/human ships'. Which woulda held true if I didn't end up doing other human ships so that punched that sole reason in the face. Many pairs I've ended up writing sure, came from fleshing out the AU and becoming ascended extras that I love writing about, too. I'd figure you kinda have to at least like a pair to write it imo (I don't believe in being miserable while you write). But they all tended to be just as rair as my crackship main. This was so unintended. And it's not like I don't like the more common fandom wide pairs (most RE pairs/polys/ect aren't canon so it's not canon avoidance either!) I literally will read any configuration as long as the story moves me. Heck, I've been asked to write more common ships (usually in this rude offtopic way: No, I probably won't write your Cleons or Chriskers unless you venmo me a 'I might think about it' fee - again, I only write for free what I enjoy writing about). Every time this happens, I search the pair requested in question up. I see the sheer hundreds if not thousands of fics for them and ask WHY? You are so well fed? My writing style might not even fit them >.> (thou, I'd be more flattered if that was the angle requests were coming from). This also made me realize I prefer writing pairs that barely have a page of works to their name.
I also think to me it's the 'difficulty spike' in writing a pair that draws me in. Like for example Valenfield*. It's baby's first gateway ship for a reason - they are always in someway together canonically with a pre build professional relationship, have extensive history together, they are simply comfy to pair. Thing is, they have to me so much canonical history it's like 'what could I personally even add that canon didn't already?' I'd feel boxed in cause as much as I'm team 'write whatever you want forever' I personally try to semi stay/dance around within the canon box before I diverge AU nasty style. And Jill and Chris have so many fics already that'd I'd be adding a drop in the available fic bucket; both in the permutation of character interpretations and odds are my added story wouldn't even bring anything new to the table. They are simply Too Easy for me and just don't bring anything new to mind that I could write about. But that also brings up that I simply like creative freedom. I like the generalized canon but not liking that a pair already has an established dynamic/story in canon. Yes, I know you could just...not consider it but I just don't want to rebuild over a thing that is serviceable, I want to build what wasn't there in the first place. Your Valendfields, your Aeons ect kinda has that set up already and I hate having things 'given' to me. If I wanna do a whatif then I will DO a WHATIF. And the fun in doing a whatif is the difficulty. The lack of setup. Like there is NOTHING supporting Nemmy and Jill together. Fucking nothing. Just big baddie mon and soldier fighting. That absolute nothing would scare people away; I see free real estate to get creative and build housing on. Because there is nothing I am able to go hog wild and *make* something. Something that other people are not likely to also come up with (or not in the same way). I can break with established norm and feel like I'm treading new ground. This extended to humans - why not have Ada interact with Carlos? They both operate 'under the table', with one affable with a bit of a scruffy boy outlook despite his history as a merc and the other being a cool and coy spy and not giving out info unless they have to with both being playfully flirty? Who despite both being in the same city never meet? Why not? The canon certainly didn't think they should meet on screen but I did! And sometimes, I break my own rules and think there *is* so much there in the canon imo and not many take it, like Creva. Like, now I'm just doing it cause they deserve more - I've no idea why they are so rare (and no, I don't buy into racism or anything like that as the why I think it's just lack of interest, sadly...and people mayhaps afraid to multiship for some reason?) cause they both are likeable and interesting together. I don't see them as a rare pair yet they are, hmm. *Not to say I don't have them on the future fic docket, shhh
