Is there gonna be a gemanimate 4?

With this being the final night of Pride month I'd like to take the opportunity to respond to at least one of the asks regarding Gemanimate 4:

Currently, there is one person from the previous coordinator crew that could continue the Gemanimate series (me) and they would really love to!! Plans have been made - it's only a matter of setting them into action.

I'm entering my last year of college and have been extraordinarily busy so I've not had the time to give to Gemanimate. I apologize for that.

I intend to gauge interest for a fourth installment before making a final decision and if there's still a dedicated community interested in continuing Gemanimate - there will be a fourth!

As soon as I've cleared a bit of my schedule I'd like to scout for additional coordinators + mods so that a theoretical Gemanimate 4 could be produced as smoothly as possible without any hiatuses or miscommunications. Until then, feel free to continue sending asks.

And - if you're experienced with coordinating (zines, multi-animator projects, reanimates, etc.) - please get in touch or keep an eye out for future posts!

Anyways this was made early last year for @gemanimate ‘s “the answer” re-animation anthology and I see a lot of issues in it now but it’s still got a lot of heart to it so I’m cool with still posting it.

oooh yeah i finished my Gemanimate shot a while ago! finally had some time to make a little comparison vid. i love how this lineless + textured style turned out, ill probably use it again!

I forgot to post this! This is my collaboration @gemanimate shot with the amazing and talented @madeleinelovescolours! I decided to finally tackle Toon Boom Harmony and learn how to make a build, and animate that build (which meant bugging my experienced friends with noob questions like “how do I select the pieces” and “why can’t I copy and paste...”). It was so much fun figuring out how to build this and make it as animation-friendly as possible, and finally being able to do subtle nuanced animation with a rig.

Update : my Gemanimate shot has been delivered ! I had a great time crafting it for such an amazing project. Thousands thanks to the @gemanimate crew for taking over all the organisation and the editing. The final shot is on its way, keepin’it warm.

It’s the full episode of The Answer, yes. There’s 164 animators who took part and donated their time to create a shot for the episode.

There’s a breathtaking amount of creativity packed into this 10 minutes episode. I can’t wait for you all to see it.

Comparison gifs for my @gemanimate hand shot! I decided to focus on the gems for both symbolic and artistic reasons. This meant changes like darkening the bg while brightening the gem colours, making sparkly gem animation against the slow-moving fireflies, and slightly turning the hands outwards for a better angle of the gems. Admittedly I ended up sacrificing some narrative clarity for this scene, but that’s what happens with artistic interpretation: sometimes you’ll have to compromise one element, but only so you can concentrate on another.
