Anon's explanation:
I’m curious because I see a lot of people claiming to be anti-AI, and in the same post advocating for the use of Glaze and Artshield, which use DiffusionBee and Stable Diffusion, respectively. Glaze creates a noise filter using DiffusionBee; Artshield runs your image through Stable Diffusion and edits it so that it reads as AI-generated. You don’t have to take my work for it. Search for DiffusionBee and Glaze yourself if you have doubts. I’m also curious about machine translation, since Google Translate is trained on the same kinds of data as ChatGPT (social media, etc) and translation work is also skilled creative labor, but people seem to have no qualms about using it. The same goes for text to speech—a lot of the voices people use for it were trained on professional audiobook narration, and voice acting/narration is also skilled creative labor. Basically, I’m curious because people seem to regard these types of gen AI differently than text gen and image gen. Is it because they don’t know? Is it because they don’t think the work it replaces is creative? Is it because of accessibility? (and, if so, why are other types of gen AI not also regarded as accessibility? And even then, it wouldn’t explain the use of Glaze/Artshield)
Additional comments from anon:
I did some digging by infiltrating (lurking in) pro-AI spaces to see how much damage Glaze and other such programs were doing. Unfortunately, it turns out none of those programs deter people from using the ‘protected’ art. In fact, because of how AI training works, they may actually result in better output? Something about adversarial training. It was super disappointing. Nobody in those spaces considers them even a mild deterrent anywhere I looked. Hopefully people can shed some light on the contradictions for me. Even just knowing how widespread their use is would be informative. (I’m not asking about environmental impact as a factor because I read the study everybody cited, and it wasn’t even anti-AI? It was about figuring out the best time of day to train a model to balance solar power vs water use and consumption. And the way they estimated the impact of AI was super weird? They just went with 2020’s data center growth rate as the ‘normal’ growth rate and then any ‘extra’ growth was considered AI. Maybe that’s why it didn’t pass peer review... But since people are still quoting it, that’s another reason for me to wonder why they would use Glaze and Artshield and everything. That’s why running them locally has such heavy GPU requirements and why it takes so long to process an image if you don’t meet the requirements. It’s the same electricity/water cost as generating any other AI image.)

“what the hell is that?”
“gen, it’s literally just a hair mask; it won’t harm you.”
gen eyes the container in your hand suspiciously. it took a bit of struggle to fully convince your boyfriend to join you in your haircare routine. especially when he doesn’t really like people touching his hair in general. (well, you were an exception, of course. he likes the feeling of your fingers combing through his hair.)
you scooped a spoonful of the product, put it in a cup and added water to mix it just as it’s supposed to be used. gen watches you do it all, still wondering if agreeing to this was the right decision or not. “oh, c’mon, babe! don’t look at me like that—this will be fun!” you say as you continue on mixing. you hear your boyfriend grumble a quick “fine.” as he slumps onto the chair with his arms crossed across his chest.
after being satisfied with how you mixed it, you poured a bit of the hair mask onto your palm and were about to apply it to gen’s hair—that is, until he stopped you. “wait a goddamn minute. you’re putting that in when my hair is still dry?”
“stop being dramatic, gen. and yes, i need to apply it when your hair is dry first.”
“no way.”
“yes way!”
narumi gen: zero. (y/n) (l/n): one. the scent of the hair mask wasn’t bad; gen noticed how good it actually smelled as you were applying it to the ends of his hair. “okay, now you leave it on for a good ten to fifteen minutes.” you said, then made another batch for yourself. gen then pulls out his console from his pocket and plays on it to pass the time.
fifteen minutes later, gen did as you told him and rinsed it off of his head, plus he did his usual routine of shampoo and conditioner. he thought that was it, until he saw you approaching him with three fingers full of the hair mask. “i thought we were done?”
“nope. but this is the final step, i promise! you just need to put it on damp hair and rinse and then voila! just dry your hair and you’re ready to go.” gen could only sigh—he could never say no to you. once all the steps were finished, gen started blow drying his hair just like you told him to. and to his surprise, his hair felt… soft. very soft, in fact.
maybe he should join you in your haircare routine more often.

Togame Jo’s greeting kisses to you are always way too long.
The kind of affection that’s usually savored in private, instead displayed wherever, whenever, and every single time you see each other—he always takes two to three minutes just to kiss you hello, abandoning the task at hand (dozing off, attending to Choji, managing the Shishitoren) to mosey your way and pull your lips to his in something just a little too sloppy to be sweet, but a little too sweet to be… too distasteful.
Everyone’s used to it by now, even Sakura, knowing that when you arrive, there’s always a going to be a pause in action just for the sappy display of Togame drooping over you and announcing you to the crowd physically.
(What’s not readily exposed, however, and especially not in a room full of men, is that it’s not just a kiss Togame’s giving you, not just a hello that he hides behind his long bangs and your cheeks between his warm hands, but the kindest stare and sweetest little whisper, “missed you, baby,” as he wraps you up in his arms.)

A quiet morning in the house was a rare occasion. The boys were asleep and Vincent had carried Renee to bed where she fell peacefully into slumber. During his errands, Vincent visited a patisserie to surprise Renee with some freshly baked pastries.
Tumblr media
Being a dad reminded Vincent of his childhood, but the Nancy memories subconsciously returned. How long has it been since he last saw her? It must have been 15 years now; he's not seen her for half of his life. For a short time, Nancy meant everything to him, and today only fragments of her remained.
Tumblr media
At the patisserie entrance, his eyes focused on the menu and what to purchase. But his mind lingered on his past and Nancy. How is she doing? Did she end up becoming a chef and opening her restaurant? Does she have kids now, like himself?
Tumblr media
Perhaps he was pondering the pastries for long, because a man with a heavy French accent made some suggestions, "Excusez-moi sir, you look lost in the menu! I recommend trying the mille-feuille. C’est délicieux." He thanked the man, who left abruptly and then ordered.
Tumblr media
"So strange," Vincent considered. He hadn't thought about Nancy since being Renee, but he was suddenly wondering about her life. Nancy was such a prominent part of his teenage years and for them to completely lose contact was baffling. If they ever meet again, he hopes to rekindle their friendship. Maybe he could meet her partner. And if she has kids, maybe they could meet his own.

was watching dr stone to destress from finals (WHYYYY NOW I HAVE A NEW OBSESSION) and the moment gen came on screen my brain WOULD NOT stay quiet about the potential of having this menance in assassination classroom.
gen would deffinitely take one look at the asanos and the giant social experiment that was kunugigaoka and mentally slap a psychological horror tag onto them. while completely disregarding the fact that he needs one himself.
Tumblr media
(he would be at the back of the class writing a phd dissertation on the mental state of this specific giant, yellow, octopus like specimen of an alien while his classmates try to kill korosensei.)
Day #18 of my nearly everyday fanart challenge.
