"So, handling your archnemesis," Danny starts. The room falls quiet, heads slowly turning to look at the man as he writes the words on the chalkboard. When finished, the characters somehow both messy and neat at once, Danny places the chalk back down and claps his hands.
"I typically call them fruitloops. Often they're in a better position than you are- older, richer, more powerful. They may have some sort of status that protects them when facing the public."
Tim wondered where Dick was right now, and if he was laughing. His brain was lagging like a computer as he tried to process what Danny was saying, and how seriously a few of his fellow teen vigilantes were taking this.
"Some of their more common tactics are-" the chalk was picked back up, and Danny writes as he speaks.
"Manipulation, isolation, conditioning, and empathy."
MICE.
Tim stares at the board, and quietly slips put his phone.
-What have I done to deserve this.

His head thumps against the desk. Conner leans over, gives him a pat on the shoulder but returns to taking notes as Danny goes on to explain the conditioning tactic.

reread tiphs dialog recently. i love them lots

Hii! I love your art! Do you have any tips on learning how to draw? I've recently gotten inspired again but there's sooo much to learn and there's so much I want to be able to draw that I just don't know where to begin😩
Hello, and thank you! Really glad you dig my art. :) As for tips on learning to draw, I totally get it, it can feel really overwhelming in terms of where to start and where to go for advice and such.
Personally, I read a lot of those 'How to Draw X' books as a kid to teach myself how to draw before I was able to take any sort of formal art class...but I'm not sure how prevalent those are these days. XD So my sincere advice: Start with fanart.
If there's a thing you love and you're excited about, draw it! Anything that gets you motivated to create, indulge that impulse.
An example of said indulgence XD :
(This also illustrates another tip: Stick with it! These were drawn ten-ish years apart--it can be discouraging when you don't necessarily see improvement right away, but it will come with time!)
By simply starting and being consistent, you'll go through some trial and error, which will reveal specific areas you might want to devote time to working on.
Other good resources to look to for inspiration and explanation: YouTube, art/photo reference books, art challenges, and other online artists.
Hopefully this helps, and I wish you the best with your artistic endeavors!

a shot of whiskey at night has been doing wonders for my nerves. not to sound like I got my prescription from a cowboy-doctor or something, but it's near instant relief
#[static]#my ocd has been worse than it has been in months and it makes me feel feral-animal levels of anxious#as a general rule I never drink; never much liked the taste of it#the anxiety has been so bad that I've been trying all sorts of remedies on top of the healthy coping tools I have in my pocket#I'm not currently insured so I can't go to my normal doctor and ask for anxiety medication#but the moment I get insurance again in June ... you can bet I'll be making some phone calls#I just need to be conked over the head and put to sleep for a month maybe that'll help#I turned to trying whiskey as a last ditch effort and I'm grateful its helped ... settles my nerves enough where I can actually sleep#and not wake up still in a state of deep stress and anxiety#do not take this as medical advice if you're experiencing anxiety/ocd#i know my limits very well and am highly aware of the downward slope that self-medicating can lead to#*gestures to my entire family* I've learned from their history and have always been hyper aware of vices/crutches#but when a man can't sleep nor think except for the constant spiral of anxiety sometimes you have to find temporary aid

Putting down certain artists to build up other artists is so unnecessary. Art is creativity, not a competition.
“You’re the only artist to draw your sona accurately to your real life self.” Why is this a problem to begin with? Let artists draw themselves however they want.
“Why do only artists with mid styles get popular? Why aren’t artists with good styles nearly as popular?” This is just rude. Art is subjective, there is no such thing as a “mid/bad” art style. If you want your favourite artists to be popular, help support them and get their name around. Some artists don’t even want to be popular, some prefer having a small community.
As long as an artist isn’t causing harm to themselves or others with what they create, why are you so concerned with what they are doing? Art is about creating, expressing, and exploring oneself.

to meee :3 akechi and sumire arent exactly friends throughout january, (they only get really close several years later) but as a side effect of neither having anything better to do and the two constantly haunting kichijoji i think they inevitably fall together more often than not. ren takes sumire out for darts and shes weirdly better than she was last time (sidebar but the fact that sumire and akechi both mimic your throws but sumire sucks shit at darts too much for it to do any good is so cute) and shes like oh yeah akechi-san has been teaching me. oh wow i got a forty! unaware of the way she just blew rens mind.
#the clock chimes at midnight#its not all about you ren!!!!!#sidebar to the sidebar. of course sumire imitates your dart throws. of course.#again theyre too busy fighting for their respective lives in the time loop to actually become friends in january#but i do think in the years before meeting again they think of the time with fond bittersweetness of what couldve been.#theyre not really going out together but more mutually keeping each other company lol. its generally a pretty quiet affair.#sumire doesnt really ask him for advice as she puts herself back together (he tends to get acerbic if she tries)#but he can be a pretty decent sounding board for either really simple (red or blue glasses)#or really philosophical (do you think my time as kasumi irrevocably changed who i am and if so am i still sumire) questions.#he does not tell her anything concrete about why the other thieves are so tense with him and she doesnt ask outright#but she able to glean a bit more about him through these discussions. and sadly for both of them they both actually sort of like each other#they get food. play darts. practice mementos on their own a few times (THEY GET A SHOWTIME STOP LYING TO ME!!).#and i sort of think akechi smokes either hes always done it or very recently picked it up now that he no longer needs to be personable#and sumires like well. im going to remain myself but i still want to do smth self-destructive. smoke me up man.#(also all her clothes smell like kasumi and its freaking her out. she doesnt mind smelling bad if itll distinguish her.)#idk. akesumi smiles gently.

I NEEED to go back to making art that makes it ABUNDANTLY clear that theres something wrong with my brain BUT NOT in a cool or stylishly interesting way. i need to do it in a way that makes people say "hm." and walk away
#sowwy ive been kinda going through it in my fine arts major rn can u tell HJKSDHKFd#ive been feeling like. scared. and paralyzed by marketability and branding.#i cant stop thinking about how other people will see my art. but not like in a good way#when i was younger i thought about it in a good way. like hee hee hoo hoo the act of looking connected us hee hee#but rn i keep thinking about it in like this wretched like consumer product mindset? ouhhghhhhh el problema es el capitalismo#and like maybe this works for some people. to think like this. to make art like this. its what my professors push me towards#not intentionally. they dont say it out loud at least. im not sure if they know or not some of the irony#my professors are nice and pretty smart and talented and i like em. but sometimes i wonder like. the push for us as students to make like#marketable 'avant garde'? stuff thats safe but pretending to be weird and out there#i dont mean to sound pretentious. in general i play it too safe myself (spent too much time as an edgy 10 year old with my#parents freaking out over my shoulder because they think the fact that i drew an anime character frowning means something serious LOL)#but i dunno man. my least interesting art with the least amount of care thought or effort always gets so much more attention in school#nowhere else oddly. online? people like my more passionate but seemingly frivolous art (oc art etc. not frivolous to me but yknow how it is#same with irl artists and other industry people outside my school. whats going on in my school LOL#i know from experience i cant push myself into a supposedly marketable brand. if i try to make something sell it will not.#i dont know why. maybe theres an invisible essence buyers can tell when i didnt care jkfsldjdfrds#but my teachers LOOOOVE the stuff i put no passion in its so bizarre orz but i gotta relearn how to ignore half of their advice#i used to be better at it. but i also only used to ignore like a quarter of their advice. maybe i need to amp up how much im ignoring#that sounds mean. they have plenty of good advice. but also plenty of advice thats clouded by their own biases#and i gotta relearn how to sort out this stuff again. i forget every few months for some reason#you know i always think ouuhhhhh i act so neurotypical ouhhhhhhhhh im outgoing i talk to strangers all the time i seem confident#im so masked IM SO MASKED but then i go a couple weeks where every conversation i have has people looking at me like#i have two heads and neither of them are speaking their language. and then i descend into madness like this HJKLDSHJDS#i'll be fine i'll figure it out. i need to stop trying to get a good grade in being a 'cutting edge' conventional artist <3#i need to just. draw my cartoon characters in peace 😔😔😔

Trying to update the squinfinitions list and I've now discovered tumblr only permits 100 links per post.
So! I'm planning on separating them into separate parts. I have two choices for organization and I wanna know what you guys think-- since mostly the compilations are for your ease.
Option 1: Keep it all alphabetical -- The whole pool of definitions will be organized in alphabetical order, meaning each part will continue off where the last part left off
Option 2: Separate into groups -- The first 100 definitions will be organized alphabetically. Then, the next 100 in the next part will be organized alphabetically, ignoring the previous 100 words from the previous part.
#not a squipfinition#i think option 1 may be generally better for you guys but could be more tedious for me.#i dont mind that much though i like organization#option 2 could also be good though? more sorted by whether a word is recent or not which might be helpful#dunno though. any advice would be appreciated though.#also it probably wont be separated into 100 words. gotta have links to the other parts. so it may be 99. 98. 95. or 90 words :/

#original art#why dont i just tag it life drawing actually#life drawing#new classes in a new city and it was really fun actually ...i knew it was guided but sometimes that just means#somebody saying alright this is 5 min pose.now we're doing 10 mins.half your time is up etc and maybe making some general advice but#its basically up to you how and what you do#but today for the first half of the session they were like you have to draw in this way or using these materials and although i was#expecting and maybe hoping for the former it was fun actually#the first one w the thick blue lines they gave us a felt tip taped to a wooden stick and told us to hold the paper far away + hold the stick#at the end so that you had less control/were making sort of loose marks or being more considered in trying to make a mark#+ they made us do one just using straight lines by using a playing card as a ruler lol?#the last one was a 40 min pose where u could do what u like and from my angle i didnt rly wanna focus on the figure so i drew the background#i liked the shadows behind the plant#it was in a coffee shop so i had a yummy chai latte during the break ❤️ i will try to go again pretty often

something i love about being best friends with a guy who's really good at giving advice and generally saying kind things is that when he's having a rough time i can just say to him what he always says to me and it works
#he was supposed to come over yesterday but had to go home very quickly because he accidentally ate gluten#and was sending me some despair-filled text messages#frustrated that he hadn't paid attention to what he was eating and couldn't hang out with me any more#and i was like “listen mate you always say to me that i shouldn't feel guilty about being ill so how about you start taking your own advice#(i didn't say those words exactly bc i was trying to sound as kind as one can possibly sound over text but that was the general sentiment)#(i tell you it's very hard to make text messages not sound passive aggressive)#anyway he was very appreciative and i just consider myself lucky to have this sort of advice on hand from when he's said it to me#otherwise my messages to him probably would have been more like “that's rough buddy”
