Why and How I Relate to Pomni. (A yapping session)

TW: A bit of Venting and Sensitive Topics

Hey guys, I just felt like I wanted to do more of a personal post explaining my hardcore love for Pomni as a character. I’ll just get straight to my points.

In the pilot, we see Pomni suddenly just appear in the circus, which I can relate to, as my life as a kid I frequently moved from place to place, sometimes suddenly and out of nowhere. Her anxiety which she had during her first day also means something to me since I have had pretty severe social anxiety my entire life and just in general due to frequent moving. I found her trying to find the exit relatable as well since I have similarly tried desperately to find answers or solutions to all problems in my life, so there’s that.

In Episode 2, we see her nightmare, which I heavily relate with; as I overthink certain things from time to time, like relationships and even how this show will end. But after being woken up by Ragatha, we can see she is quite disgruntled and just done with it all, pretty much assuming everyone hated her, (another relatable thing of her to me). Pomni talking in an annoyed and tired tone just feels how I feel in some days, especially when she didn’t want to be treated like a child and “hyped up” by Ragatha. Her getting tossed out the truck by Jax even meant something to me as well, as I saw the scene of the people in my life who treated me like crap. And then there’s her talk with Gummigoo, and I fucking love this scene. Pomni just showing her compassion and empathy despite being in personal turmoil really hit me at home, (there is a reason one of the quotes in the scene is on my bio). Then they go back to the rest, and blah blah blah, Gummigoo “dies”. But the funeral scene REALLY HIT ME HARD. Everyone crying or at least, feeling sadness really hit me hard, it was like seeing family members cry. But once Pomni found hope that she wasn’t alone, she will be missed if she’s gone, and smiled, I cried for TWO DAYS. Just a beautiful scene, beautiful episode.

In Episode 3, we see her hanging out with the rest and I just really relate to in this scene; she seems like annoyed doing some things with them, which hit home, as I am not a big fan of doing things, or even hanging out with people at all, (other than family members ofc). And once the gang go on the adventure, we can just she how vulnerable and sensitive she can be when it comes to horror related things, which I love, as I myself am very sensitive to jumpscares, sudden loud noise and just horror in general. But when she and Kinger are sent to “Hell”, I can just feel for her in these scenes. Her being overwhelmed with the horror, and just everything in general. (Not gonna lie, when she was shown being possessed in the episode 3 trailer, I genuinely thought she was finally going to abstract). Anyways, after her possession, she breaks down and starts crying. I WANTED TO JUMP INTO THE SCREEN AND GIVE HER ALL SHE WANTS! Afterwards, Kinger and Pomni have their heart to heart, and the hallway scene afterwards is just SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL! When they finally meet up with the others, Pomni tells Ragatha thank you for looking out for her, which I really relate too, as I see this as myself apologizing to loved ones after a bit of tension.

Episode 4, in my eyes is the episode where I mostly and HEAVILY relate to her. Pomni is sent and just forced to stay at the register since she cannot cook for shit (I relate to this since I fucked up making beans once, yes I fucked up beans). Ahem anyways, Gummigoo fucking returns, Pomni freaks out, and begins trying to make him remember her but to no avail. This scene REALLY HIT HOME, as I literally was like this seeing old friends in my school I returned to in January, and I was initially really bummed out I wasn’t noticed (I was gone for over a year, I really should have expected not being noticed). And then there was the scene with Gangle, and when Pomni offered to close the store for her, I WAS APPLAUDING LIKE A PROUD PARENT/FATHER, but anyways; I fucking love this scene; maybe even my favorite in the series so far dare I say, Pomni offering help despite her struggles that day really hit my heart, it really reminded me of helping other people in school even if we knew each other or not.

ive: ok i dont know if my section is just women hating or women defending but my whole row sat down for their TWO songs and everyone got on their phones (including me!) instead of watching. I forgot to screenshot the thank you for playing oops, but fuckin I beat After Alterna that lets you understand everything you need to know. Actually did true 100% completion this time as well btw unlike Splatoon 2 and Octo Expansion, so that's gaming.

Anyway, game good! Game really good. Kind of got a best of every world setup for the single player here - 2 felt a little too identical to 1 but Octo Expansion was a really good gameplay shakeup, although its contextualisation with the subway system wouldn't have supported a full game, so we basically take that gameplay and mission structure and combine it with the hubs of 1 and 2, although with a far more interactive setup. Alterna's islands for that matter are a lot more diagetic and convincing to explore than the hubs in 1 and 2 such that this is easily the most joy I've had in the between level stuffs across every single player mode so far. Especially because the whole place does also just look cool as hell.

And then once you get into the levels proper I think they're just all very good fun and smartly designed pretty much across the board, plus compared to Octo Expansion they have a lot more ideas and a more linear sense of progression so I would say missions get to be longer and better realised with difficulty that scales a lot better according to where you are in the game. Since I did do 100% completion I replayed a lot of levels but I think the hub world setup makes that notion feel less overwhelming in Octo Expansion and they generally do a different enough variety of weapons to where it's pretty worth revisiting the stage with it. Destroy the crates to match the structure with 3 separate weapons notwithstanding. Bosses are maybe slightly weaker than usual unfortunately - there are less of them and they're surprisingly simple as well, Big Man didn't feel like the pre-final final boss whatsoever. Final boss is an extremely fun setpiece although I cannot lie the music was surprisingly lame lol. The gameplay is also weaker than Octo Expansion's final boss imo but oh well, it was still pretty hype.

Also appreciate that they've got 0 withdrawals with the story presentation this time around. Never minded that the lore was something in the background for Splatoon 1 but 2 then Octo Expansion and now 3 really embracing it and going all in on what the fuck happened to humanity and where all these new lifeforms came from, that's good fun. And I was saying this in the Alterna is diagetic as hell bit anyway but the fuckin space station and rocket ships contextualise this story so much more than floating blocks and landmasses everywhere a la Splatoon 1 and 2's hubs.

Only other comment coming to mind to make right now is After Alterna itself. Yeah definitely the hardest singular level in any of the games so far, although Inner Agent 3 from Octo Expansion I would call a much harder stage, I still can't beat it. But I prefer the platforming and movement mechanics offered by this series, and so I prefer After Alterna anyway - it really does push your understanding of the mechanics and hazards and just your own raw skill a pretty satisfying amount. Didn't take me too long to beat it, even first tried a few segments - it's the Octoling onslaught at the end that pushed me the most but they're not too smart and I'd fully upgraded the skill tree such that I managed eventually. Kinda hope come Raiders that there's more similarly challenging or even harder movement based levels, cause it's an area that Splatoon genuinely really excels in.

Anyway I'll buy Side Order when I next get paid. And once that's done I will truly be ready for Raiders, which is a game I'm looking forward to even more having played everything I've played so far. Splatoon's pvp shooter gameplay is obviously its dominant cultural legacy because fucking duh it is the focus of the game but depending on what Side Order ends up being I'm looking forward to Nintendo expanding on the idea of what Splatoon and its gameplay can actually be.

genuinely so hype about the dnd campaign bc all the potential with naielle and euphemia makes me feral. and part of that is that naielle has barely interacted with any other (still living) character, except marius? and their interaction was brief that besides some questions about why hes old naielle has nothing to like. hash out with him. when we get back to the normal timeline theres gonna be something a lot more pressing on naielles part that requires his attention, yknow.

but euphemia! in the prime timeline naielle and euphemia are friends! theyre part of the diplomacy/support squad alongside marius! of the two, theyre the big nerds, and also both involved in navigation - the former the navigator, the latter the cartographer, who is herself married to another navigator aboard. they enjoy knowledge and history. naielle trusts her a lot.

but! in the alt timeline euphemia is fucking scary. she forces naielle into the consultancy, reads her mind constantly (always Asking, but to naielle it never feels like she can actually say no). she lied to naielles face! naielle said 'please dont tell Qinan [about the vision where i murder him]' and euphemia looks her dead in the eye and goes 'i wont!' before handing Qinan a scroll of Detect Thoughts and showing it to him instead. maybe not a lie on technicality, but a lie in every way that matters.

naielle is terrified, categorically afraid for her safety, woefully intimidated by the undersecretary saying she 'killed 2 people' for the knowledge she conscripted naielle for.

and so when they get back to the prime reality, presumably remembering some of this, naielle is gonna be FUMING. naielle did not actually know abouy Euphemia's Channel Divinity: Read Thoughts, because it isn't a detectable spell. no part of that process is discernable by the target. its not detect thoughts, where you know theyre doing it if they push deeper. it just happens. you still make a save (and can choose to fail, as naielle consistently does in this timeline), but you dont know its happening. right. naielle DIDNT KNOW SHE HAD THAT.

so its like, point 1 - you can fucking read minds? how long have you been able to do that? have you been doing that to members of the crew? can i trust you to be honest with me about when and on who it was used? can i fucking trust you?

which feeds naturally into point 2 - i cant fucking trust you. i know its perhaps Unfair to hold you to the conduct of a version of yourself in a very different time and place, but as the war we are currently fighting continues, and is likely to get worse before it gets any fucking better, i cannot in good fucking conscience trust that you, right in front of me, will not make the same decisions that this alternate form of you did. and i dont know that i can fucking trust you if you are capable of that.

naielle doesnt have a way out of this. she doesnt have an olive branch to offer. she doesnt know what shed want euphemia to do to prove any sincerity. euphemia could offer her every excuse under the sky and i dont know that naielle will care, vis a vis the vision specifically. because while naielle isnt the Most self aware person, i think she can look at how she was personally acting in this alternate timeline and go 'you didnt have to lie to me to get the result you wanted. you could have told me no to my request. instead you looked at an elf who is on the verge of a breakdown and has just witnessed some pretty distressing things and decided to be a pedantic fuckstick. "i didnt tell him" fucking tripe. you could have said "i cant promise that, it might be important for him to know" and i wouldve gone "oh :(" but i wasnt gonna fucking stop you! are you insane????'

euphemia could offer whatever justification she likes, but naielle feels fundamentally betrayed by Euphemia's action there, and a little violated by the mind reading shit. naielle only came back to the royal quarter because there was nowhere else she could possibly go when she realised there was trouble, and the group had agreed to work together to try and fix the realities. shes going back because she saw marius and went 'well. he was nice to me earlier, i think. and the strange man seems friendly. ill trust them if i have to, to fix this'. shes not coming back because shes loyal to euphemia. shes back because shes scared, and the group had an answer, and she thinks some of them might at least listen to her. shes terrified.

so prime timeline naielle, a woman in possession of a Fucking Backbone, is going to remember this, in whole or in part, and turn to euphemia like 'we are going to discuss that later. and if i have to pull rank to do so i will, comprenez-vous?' and not wait for an answer. shes gonna be so mad.

TSUDA KENJIRO THE MAN THAT YOU ARE!!!! (i wouldn't call myself a nanami simp per se... but i definitely see the appeal and omg just him as a character is so <33333 to me)

AND INUMAKI!!!! his lack of screentime is criminal i have to say </3 but i think his 'don't move' is doing wonders for his popularity BUT HE IS SO SO CUTE (but idk if this needs to be said but he's not the all day all night type of character for me,, like he's cool and he's very adorable and i love his character and that's it SLKDFJSDLFK AND HIS CT IS LOWKEY VERY TRAGIC,,,,, jjk is another one of those animanga where it's like impossible to have one singular fav now that i'm thinking more on it)

AND ORV!!! joonghyuk definitely gives mother vibes i see it i see it (and kim dokja living on instant ramen (IT HAS TO BE SHIN I THINK HAHAHAHAH) and dread (TM) is sooooooo accurate i think it's not even funny)

i'm also not a fan of horror (<- also scaredy cat) so dw no horror recs from me!! to start it off simply, i would have to say eleceed for some good wholesome (kinda) action and hmmmm return of the blossoming blade (BRO IT'S SO FUNNY AND GOOD I CANNOT RECOMMEND IT ENOUGH) and and and either operation: true love (i read it for the plot and the plot is eunhyeok and dohwa!!!!!!!) or not your typical reincarnation story (i actually really like this one, it really lives up to his title too!!)

also i think i saw that orv is getting live(?) adaptation???? which like.... hm....... idk how to feel about that tbh an anime would go so hard and might be much better,, though i hope they use korean va's and not japanese like they did with solo leveling (BUT SOLO LEVELING WAS ALSO GOOD WITH JP DUB PLEASE DON'T GET ME WRONG PEOPLE WHO HAVE SEEN IT)

hi im back again to say the pros and cons of breathing is driving me actually crazy like idek the timeline or lore or whatever of who was writing more lyrics at the time between pete and patrick and even though its probably primarily about someone else/a different situation, its making me think about early days p2 and like the way they used to fight... like pete pushing patrick to sing because he saw his talent but also patrick not being comfortable in the spotlight as much as pete and also being way less willng to talk about his emotions AND petes history of playing with voice and writing from both his and patricks perspective... and how that can feel stifling and controlling when you arent used to (or dont want to be receptive to) emotional intimacy... and the thought of that whole era of peteandpatrick where they were already connected to each other so strongly and had such an intense relationship (no matter how u defne relationship) but without healthy communication or boundaries and just being so young and feeling out of your depth in an intense scene...... anyway can u tell im such a patrick girl (gender neutral)

What were the BLs that took you by surprise last year? 

i won't lie, i wasn't surprised that i enjoyed kinnporsche, but to the extent that i did (and of course still do), that was kinda surprising. they had me paying to watch a livestream of gay™ the musical, and i'm not even mad. it was my first thai bl, so, oh lord, my standards were raised.

last twilight in phuket - controversial, but i think i prefer it to i told sunset about you (though itsay is so so good). i didn't know 13.43 mins could make me feel so much, but there we are, and i'm very happy to be in that situation.

What were the BLs that you felt a bit disappointed with last year? 

oh i have some very controversial opinions on this–

- there's one that everyone really loves that i didn't finish, thought it was trying to be bigger than what it was (if that makes sense), and just found it really... boring. it got to one plot line and i'd had enough– though i'm willing to give it a re-try because, granted, i was in a kinnporsche mourning period when it came out. im not even gonna name it because i swear everyone i follow loves it (welp-)

again, controversial, but i haven't seen this being talked about as much as the last one. i haven't seen s2, but oh my god, i'm sorry but i was so bored, and this was before kinnporsche so my standards weren't even insanely high, yeahhh

i'd been without a favourite show for a little while, which is so so unlike me. i tend to need something to consume me and kinnporsche just did that. first ep and holy fucking shit, *that* is what i'm talking about. i hadn't actually heard of it until an edit came up on instagram, and i instantly downloaded iqiyi, found ep 1 and 2 were out, binged those, and fell in love really

when i say it became my favourite show just from the first episode, i truly mean that. it was the biggest power move of a first episode and ughdhdh perfect <33

- mafia, but *sometimes* make it wholesome. and then add a hearty dose of PAIN. perfect :D,, i know i've already said it, but i'll say it again it's consumed me, and i'm so grateful. i had some of the worst exams when it was coming out, and kinnporsche genuinely got me through each week, kept me smiling, made everything just a bit more bearable, and i am forever grateful for that.

strangers from hell

- what do you mean it's not a bl. of course it is. whatever moon-jo and jong-woo have going on is most definitely *not* heterosexual. also there was way more chemistry between those two than jong-woo and ji-eun. if you're looking for a comfort psychological thriller, this is it :D - i mean it's the most wholesome show i've ever watched, just two guys bonding over shared interests and falling in love (aww)

-Deku is literally the kindest soul ever and it makes me want to cry. He’d give you his umbrella if you ever forgot yours, he’d literally carry you to first aid if you ever injure yourself- this man will legitimately do everything for you

-He’s incredibly observant. If he catches you looking at a pretty ring then he’ll literally show up at your door days later with that very same ring in his hands

“I saw you looking at it a few days ago and I wanted to surprise you!”

“Zuku baby oh my god how much did you spend?!”

I wholeheartedly believe Izuku would call you his sunshine or something along those lines

-I have this one headcanon of him drawing you all the time as an excuse to “observe you and your quirk” but it’s really just because he wants to admire the way you shine underneath the sun- and that’s how he came up with the name Sunshine for you

-Deku has a heart of gold oh my god, this guy cares so much about you it’s unreal. Imagine trying to hide the fact that you’ve been crying while on a phone call- mission failed because he heard your shaky voice and now he’s on your doorstep with your favourite hoodie of his and your favourite snacks

-His memory is insanely good, like it’s freaky how good it is. Like you mentioned to him ONCE that you liked a certain drink and now he pulls up to your dates with that drink all the time (not like I’d complain if Deku brought me my favourite drink)

-Just like Bakugou, Deku is incredibly smart and he literally always comes up with a solution. You could literally vent to him about a problem you’re having at work and he’s come up with at least 73 solutions within 6 hours

-He’s determined and hardworking. Again, he’s just like Bakugou in the sense that he’ll put his blood, sweat and tears into whatever he’s doing- no matter if it’s a serious high stake mission or something like planning your weekly date. The second he puts his mind to something, he makes sure to give it his all.

-Izuku is your own personal cheerleader, this dude will hype you up no matter what. Training after work? he’s cheering for you. You completed a really difficult task? you better believe he’s gonna pat you on the back for it.

-He’s very protective of you. Remember when the LOV attacked the training camp and he rushed to find Kota? yeah he’s 10x more protective of you.

-And it’s not because he thinks you’re weak and can’t defend yourself, it’s because he genuinely worries about you all the time and just wants to make sure your always safe

-He’s an inspirational person, he makes you hella motivated to do even the most boring chores around the house

-Deku isn’t afraid to show his emotions. Unlike Bakugou, he’s often seen showing his emotions. Deku said “toxic masculinity who?”. He definitely gives 0 fucks if someone sees him crying/upset because I feel like Pro-Hero Deku would stop the stupid mindset of “Hero’s can’t show their genuine emotions”

-Izuku is the type of person to analyze all his losses, figure out what he did wrong and then learn from it to make sure he doesn’t make the same mistake again. He’s the complete opposite of Bakugou who gets bitter over his losses due to his superiority complex.

-He’s so good at comforting you that it’s unbelievable. Deku gives the warmest hugs that make you feel so safe- you literally cannot change my mind about this

-You know those hugs where the other person lightly rubs your back and lightly sways side to side with you? Yeah those are the hugs that Deku gives (he’d definitely give you a sweet little kiss on the forehead/cheek)

“Sunshine come here, let me hold you while you let out all your frustrations. I’ve got you, nothing can hurt you while you’re here with me”

-Can you tell I want some comforting Izuku hugs? He wouldn’t let go of you until he put a smile back on your face and GAHH oh my god I need Izuku hugs

-As much as I hate to do this, it needs to be done 😔✊🏻

-Izuku is such an over thinker, this guy worries about EVERYTHING under the sun. Your eyes didnt crinkle when you smiled? he’ll think you’re upset with him. You gave him a side hug rather than a normal hug? he’ll think he did something wrong.

-He’s self aware that he overthinks things but he just can’t seem to stop his thoughts. No matter how many times you reassure him that you aren’t upset with him, he’s subconsciously thinking about how to make it up to you

-He constantly pushes himself past his limits. You guys saw how many times he’s broken his bones. Deku may be intelligent but when it comes to his own self he can be completely hopeless

-The amount of times you’ve scolded him while you clean up his scrapes and cuts is insane. He just sits on the toilet lid and bites his lip nervously while you wave your finger angrily at him

“Sunshine please, I said I was sorry and that it won’t happen again!”

“Zuku you and I both know that’s a damn lie, I’ve had to patch you up 3 times this week! When are you going to start being more considerate of your limits?”

-I’m sorry but I picture him being so nervous to initiate anything with you. This guy would be so fidgety just by THINKING about holding your hand

-And deep down he knows he’s being ridiculous because come on, you’re his S/O and he’s been dating you for years now- why does he still get shaken up just by holding your hand?

-At first you think it’s cute, he’s just being respectful of your boundaries- but as time goes on you kind of get a little annoyed because he always asks you a bunch of times if you’re okay with him being affectionate.

“Zuku...sweetheart you know you don’t need to ask me a million times if I want to cuddle, right? I love cuddling with you!”

*cue sweating* “I’ll keep that in mind, Sunshine”

-He eventually gets a lot more comfortable with affection...more often than not you wake up with him nuzzled into your side like a cat

-He’s very insecure about his scars because they make him feel like he’s “ugly” and sometimes he doesn’t even want you to look at them

-Do me a favour and please kiss along his scars/ trace them with your fingers while you compliment him- he’ll start crying because the scars he thought made him ugly are now starting to look beautiful to him

-This isn’t necessarily a toxic trait, more like a bad habit. Whenever Izuku gets stressed he’ll train himself to the brink of exhaustion just so he can try to focus on something other than how stressed he is

-Again, not a toxic trait but a bad one...Deku puts everyone else before himself. Which isn’t a bad thing if it’s done in a healthy amount, but Izuku goes to the extreme. I feel like he’d neglect his own needs just to satisfy everyone else and you’d have to intervene before it gets worse

-I hate to say it but this guy hates confrontation so much that sometimes he’ll suffer in silence for MONTHS before he even hints at being upset with something

-I honestly think your biggest argument with him would be about his lack of communication in terms of him not being completely honest about how he feels and he just breaks down-

-Like he has a really bad breakdown because he’s been bottling everything up for so long because he hates the idea of fighting with you.

-And now he’s sobbing because he’s so frustrated that he doesn’t know what else to do

-Anyways, the two of you just silently comfort each other until you’ve both calmed down enough to talk properly. This is the night Izuku finally starts opening up to you rather than bottling up every negative emotion he feels

-I honestly think his love language is a mixture of giving you gifts and words of praise

-He’s a little shy when it comes to showing you how he feels through affection, so giving you gifts and his praise get his point across

Gamzee is also an ableist stereotype in addition to an antiblack one, specifically against people with psychosis. During Murderstuck he (at least initially) seemed to be experiencing hallucinations and religious delusions, and a number of characters describe him as psychotic, schizophrenic, lunatic, etc. Even though the voices he was hearing turned out to be coming from a possessed puppet, the writing still leaned into tropes that demonize mentally ill people

Another anon asked: The whole situation with Gamzee has me turning sour because he was a genuinely good person before he went sober and that’s... not how addicts act when they’re off something. Considering sopor has been confirmed to be dangerous I would even go so far as to say he would have been better if he was just left to process his addiction and rehabilitate normally but no. Make the sweet guy who cares for his friends an absolute monster. Thanks Hussie

The combination of these two points is, frankly, what makes me furious about Gamzee’s treatment in both Homestuck and Homestuck 2.

Gamzee is heavily coded to suffer from psychosis. My boyfriend has it; a lot of the things Gamzee goes through (the religious delusions, the paranoia, the violent thoughts and actions, the severe hallucinations) are things I’ve seen in my real-life partner. They’re things that happen specifically when he’s off his meds, when he’s at his least stable - and they’re things that genuinely harm him if I can’t help him or make him take his meds at a more regular time again. 

It’s a real-life fact of psychosis. It’s not inherently bad to show a character suffering from these things, because in truth, that’s just showing how badly psychosis can affect a person - how scary it is to suffer from it when you’re the one seeing the hallucinations and the delusions, when you have that never-ending paranoia and nobody else does. When my partner goes through psychotic episodes, I am more scared for his safety than anything else - and that’s what, honestly, should be seen more in the representation of psychosis. 

Instead? Hussie plays Gamzee into every fucking horror trope known to man. He becomes a violent, volatile murderer who acts without care for the people around him, who is terrifying and vicious and snaps only when he’s been off of his self-medication for a signifcant period of time, but specifically when there’s a trigger (so it seems “out of the blue” and unprovoked, which isn’t actually what happens with psychosis but hypes up that terror). It’s the perpetuation of the idea that psychosis is a scary mental illness that breeds murderers and that medication only “soothes the beast”, which is frankly disgusting. Especially when Gamzee’s first act after snapping is the methodical hunting of each of his friends. 

It’s this reminder that people with psychosis “cannot be trusted”, even when medicated, because it’s only a slip-up that you’ll never see coming away from slaughter. 

You know the worst thing my boyfriend has done while off his meds? Harmed himself. Taken drugs and drink and self harmed while I was sleeping and had no way of stopping him. His first instinct is to hurt himself. Not other people. Not to go hunting for victims. Even at his most volatile, with the worst intrusive thoughts of violence in his mind, he only ever hurts himself. 

And this is what I hate the most about Gamzee’s situation. It’s just a perpetuation that harms people with psychosis, who already struggle with getting help and not being abused in institutions. It paints every good thing he’s ever done as some lie that hides the face of murder, when that’s just not how the mental illness works. Psychosis isn’t the “true face” of the person; the person they are while on medication is who they are. 

That doesn’t even get into the whole concept of demonic possession that is often tied to mental illness in horror flicks. Or how often (historically) in religion “genuine mental illness” is subjected to psychological torture because people assume it’s demonic influence. 

Yet, at the same time, he’s the perpetuation of every violent drug addict stereotype we’ve ever seen. Getting someone off of their addiction doesn’t inherently turn them into violatile murderers, but it sure is something media likes to portray - and, again, facilitiates this idea that the medicated self isn’t the “true” self, but rather “how the medication affects you”. As if that’s some sort of lie? As if dear, sweet Gamzee was never real, and everything he does after going off of drugs is what he’s always been. 

It’s not only just completely wrong to real life situations - considering drug addiction is incredibly detrimental to the person and withdrawal is often one of the hardest things a person can go through, as well as an ongoing experience that sometimes takes years of dedication to achieve - but also just feeds in further to the anti-black stereotype (of black men becoming more volatile when denied their addictions). 

It also just never goes into Gamzee’s withdrawal at all? Which is part of the inherent problem in Gamzee becoming a villain in the later Acts. You’d think, once he’s been forced to go cold turkey for that long and incapable of lapsing back into addiction, that he’d slowly start a very troubled road to recovery that brings back the sweet boy we saw in Act 5. But no. That boy never comes back. He gets off the sopor, and it’s this slow burn to continuous violence to enforce the idea that the initial view we got of Gamzee wasn’t real. 

It’s why it’s so easy for people to hate Gamzee and to deny that any of his actions in Act 5 had any validity or weren’t just a facade. It plays into every negative stereotype and fear people have of psychosis and drug addicts wholeheartedly; it’s why Gamzee even works at a “villain” at all. He has these traits that people see as inherently villainous, and it’s hard to connect that with the kid who refused to adhere to the hemospectrum and showed genuine concern and care for his friends when we first saw him. It’s easier to ignore these inconsistencies than to question and criticise them - and to wonder if part of our fear/hatred of him is saturated in internalised abelism or racism.
