not asking for spoilers but just wanted to let you know I am SO excited to see whether you'll be including any aspect of the golden trio's van life™ treasure hunting in the woods segment of DH in your story. I know you've talked about how silly and irrelevant it is for them to be off and away from all the other characters and action for so much of the last book, so I'm looking forward to seeing the changes you make and what kinds of new experiences they'll have if they remain more tethered to the plot. but c'mon. neverending geocashing group camping trip from hell. it's kind of hilarious.

RV TRIP DEATHLY HALLOWS they will never make me love you RV trip deathly hallows... tho you are right and I fully grant it is the funniest thing that book could have done... it's like. The Two Towers if you're reading Sam and Frodo's trip to Mordor and you don't know what fuck all else is going on while they're doing it. And also none of the stuff with Aragorn or the actual war for the ring is on the page. And there are Hallows there, for some reason.

I'm going to assume normal bookclub bc idk what s4 "bookclub" is. But I can totally ramble off about him in a casual club for books.

*he reads the books too fast and gets more peeved at the others who end up going very very slow. If someone doesn't finish a book, he admittly makes a comment "why are you in a book club if you can't finish a book is beyond me but-" old man shrug. It's not a fight worth having, he's just being a dick.

* brings the members strawberries and other fresh produce when he can. He likes showing off the stuff he grows and brings snacks.

*gets REALLY into the books. It's like he gets a micro fandom to be in every month. He reads it though like 3 times and then listens to the audio book once. Looks up if there's anything else. Maybe even discovers fanfiction...but he tries not to get that desperate.....he's read a few for particularly addictive books.

*has given a huge ramble about how the Great Gatsby would have been better and a lot of stuff settled if Gatsby and caraway kissed. He does it so casually too like he's not trying to make a progressive point or spark bigger queer discussion. He just genuinely thinks that's the answer to the book. More man kissing.

* speaking of, the more queer books they end up reading, the more he questions his everything. He probably has gone up to Viktor about stuff in these books and try to weasel out a "no it's not like that. Your totally a normal cishet man five." but neh it's ALWAYS "yeah that seems very realistic to the queer existence. Why so curious?" And he ends up not being able to admit he connects with said books. Viktor knows but he's not going to hound his brother any time soon. Five knows once he leaves the closet,there's people waiting to be supportive.

*the old ladies there can't stop babying him. He tries very hard to be as old man and as mature as he can but they don't listen and pinch his cheeks and pat his head. He is trying to do less sudden grandma wrist breaking to he takes it for the most part. They can be wrong. He will keep doing what he does. And he hates to admit the attention from women in his age range is nice. Sad he can't make any moves.

* for the holidays the bookclub goes caroling. Five isn't a fan but tags along. They most likely end up at one of his siblings houses and he gets cold feet. They can't see him in a dorky sweater and singing. Last Christmas he threw a fit about sweaters. But if he doesn't move, the club will leave him in the snow. Ruthless old farts.

Allison answers the door. Around 5 old people, 4 local parents and......five??? They stare daggers at eachother as five poorly sings oh holy night with the group. Then leaves. The other members noticed the tension but didn't want to say much.

*Lila tried to join once to get 'in' with the parents that are involved but was so booooored. "Five, no one should be having this much fun talking this much about a book. Period. Im almost concerned that you have finally gone senial."

*if five didn't like a book, he makes a PowerPoint on why and how. He is very detailed in his opinions. He wishes the others would do the same but no body can match his freak.

*he brings mr. Pennycrumb with him bc service dog and everyone there loves him.

* I think everyone assumes five is just a very lonely mentally or physically ill young man and try there best to be nice. He isn't fond of there borderline pity but he enjoys there company none the less.

* Diana from the PTA makes the best lemon cookies. Five eats more than he should.

*on top of book club, they like to take outings together to walk around and see the community. Do easy elderly friendly geocashes and eat at local cafes. Five likes when they go to the library because then they can snoop around for more books.

okay yes I looove this puzzles/geocashing element!!! Love that it's another layer of skills for him to exercise and also love the, like, treats puzzle aspect (like you have for pets) lol. I also love that it gets Q more physically involved, I love when we can do that too <3

..and also while I'm here, I'm gonna paste my tags about the parkour ducklings too to really weave all of the threads together:

but basically, to encourage enrichment AND socialization, Q also has paths & puzzles designed with the parkour ducklings in mind, so like routes & puzzles that are more on their level for Bond to mentor them through. And also group puzzles that are meant to be solved collaboratively, with accompanying treats that have the whole group in mind <3

had a galaxy brain moment and thought to myself, self, what if I put "james bond's natural habitat is being Put Through His Paces" and "James Bond parkour as a hobby :)" together

so bit of background, I was like trying to figure out how Q could put Bond thru his paces, like yeah training courses probably exist but is that fun? and sure there's like those American Ninja Warrior courses, but again... is that actually fun? or is that about Competing. and also it's so prescribed and also kinda contrived, there's no, like, organic joy to it the way dog show agility courses somehow still manage to have a bit of that (e.g. like those tunnels they have the dogs run through, like, it's gotta have that bit of Whimsy).

but anyway! I figured it out:

so after Q has his hmm wonder what Bond is up to let's check CCTV moment and sees he's been freerunning as a hobby,. he starts designing routes & paths for Bond to freerun!!! he can either do this thru the ol' giving directions over an earpiece, or he pushes the route to Bond's phone and that's an extra layer of enrichment in that Bond has to like mentally map out the route so he knows where he needs to go before he starts off.

and-- maybe not always, but def frequently- there's a fun lil treat at the end :3 like, one time his end point is some cafe and there's a pick-up order for a lil treat waiting for him. Another time he ends up at a restaurant and there's a takeout order for two (*ping* meet me in ---- Park, and do make sure there's extra sauce packets). Yet another, his last stop is some antique store and there's a fun little trinket (idk... like rly nice cuff links or sth) that he would enjoy that has already been paid for.

And sometimes the challenge is "here is your starting point, here is your end point, figure out the best route between the two to get you there most efficiently with least use of x/avoid cameras as much as possible/make sure to do xyz on the way." This last one has the fun option of replayability (figure out different, maybe better, routes) & also "can you beat your own high score?" to it.

In conclusion: here's how we can Put Him Thru His Paces and also Enter Him In a Dog Show (run the agility course), AND also Give That Man a (real) Hobby !!!!!

and maybe you don't even want to geocaching. maybe you don't want to be involved in birding or geocaching or even hiking, and are tired of even the people who don't want to go birding still finding it weird that you've never been geocaching. and everyone keeps telling you that you'll find a geocash eventually, even though you don't want to look. and even the people who accept that you don't want to go geocaching still go on about how people like you can still go geocaching and birding and only really approve of those people.

marriage should be like birding. you don't have to do it, you can live a perfectly fulfilling life without it, and nobody expects you to do it (most people don't, and that's fine!). you can do it if you want and a lot of people find value in it, but society isn't structured around how birding is one of the ultimate goals for everyone and it's seen a weird anomaly if you don't do it and people assume there's something wrong with you. also the government shouldn't be involved with it and you should be allowed to do it with as many or few people as you want
