finished a 'quartet' rewatch and this scene honestly never fails to crack me up.

morse spent the entire episode playing spy.

but fancy didn't.

he has no idea what the fuck is going on. and yet he's tagging along because of course he is; helping morse to look for whatever he's looking for, asking the same questions with this perpetually confused expression on his face.

and when he points out the clock and morse replies with a "well done" !!! it's probably the first time morse offered a genuine compliment to him and he's obviously happy about it because FINALLY he's done something right !!

Three years ago, Morse had vanished, seemingly from the face of the earth. Three years in which his colleagues had had nothing to cling to but the desperate hope that he would achive the impossible, as he had done so often before. And then their new colleage George Fancy unwittingly told Peter Jakes the truth.

That turned out to be a mistake (at least he would have called it so at that moment) because he ran straight into Fancy and the files landed all over the floor.

At least nothing spilled out –

Except for Morse’s picture because of course it did. Why would it not?

Fancy picked it up.

“Constable, hand it over” he barked.

But Fancy would not give him the picture, instead staring at it as if he had seen a ghost. “But – sir –“ he finally managed to gasp.

“What is it?” he asked impatiently, turning his head to make sure DCI Thursday wouldn’t suddenly turn up, as he was sometimes prone to do. The last thing they needed was him thinking they were gossiping about his much-regretted bagman.

Fancy finally met his eyes, his own wide and panicked. “That’s – that’s Sage.”

Endeavour characters D&D game. Bright is DMing. Who's playing as what, and how's it going? Who's playing to type, who's playing against type, who's written a massively angsty backstory for their character already? Precisely how evil and mischievous or sweet and encouraging is Bright being as DM? :-D

I'm going to assume the players are: Morse, all four Thursdays, Strange, Max, Dorothea, and any or all (your choice) out of Jakes, Monica, Trewlove, Fancy, and Box. :-)
