Hello everybody! 😊 Our idiom of the day is “Get the axe“, which means “to lose your job“.

That’s what we’ve found about its origin: the phrase came from fired employees of the Ford company. The story goes that Henry Ford died during WWII and President Roosevelt brought back his son from the war to run Ford. The company was being run very poorly after Henry Ford I died and the President needed Ford to make vehicles for the war effort. Henry Ford the II began by firing top management by "sticking an axe in their office desks," hence the saying "I got the axe."
