Hey there! I'm trying to think about how Tav and the party are taking care of the githyanki egg, pre and post hatching. What could they even feed a baby while camping on the road??
I have had this for so long! thank you for your patience. I had to research Gith eggs, only to find specific details about Githyanki eggs are not provided in official D&D lore.
So, Im gonna go off of a few things. It looks thick as hell, and requires some kind of special conditions to hatch? the best we can tell, they are incubated while sitting in acid. In game, the only way to get it to hatch without giving it up is to have it in Laezels inventory at the very end of the game. So Im assuming it sits in stasis and after all is said and done, she hatches it (outside the Astral Plane, as their eggs cannot hatch in the Astral)
In this ask, Id say it would require that the Gith at Rosymorn were right, and this egg only needed "a little more time", and perhaps it began the hatching process already in the acid when Laezel takes it.
A day after leaving the Monastary and getting to the Shadowlands, the egg hatches and Xan is born! Which horrifies EVERYONE in the party! No one expected this, it shouldn't have been possible considering the conditions. Everyone discusses trying to bring Xan back to the monastery, but at this point they cant really turn back and they already know that those Gith might not be friends.
Over two terrifying days, everyone experiences Parenthood. Newborn gith eat (????) but lets assume it can be provided.
Though Laezel has stated in game that she does not want to make children, she canonically rises to the occasion if Xan is with her after the game, so Im going to say she becomes immediately protective. This is her kin, her race, and no one is more qualified to understand what to do than her... except, a baby is MUCH different than your average Gith, and so she cant really do this alone.
Gale and Wyll would rise to the occasion in the caring-for-Laezel department. She can't sleep, but refuses to let anyone else hold the child for the first little while. So Gale brings her meals, and Wyll tries to take over her chores, which she rages against while claiming that she can do it all herself.
When she finally blacks out from trying to do everything alone, the companions pick up Xan and take turns rocking him and cleaning him and cuddling him- there is so much danger in the Shadowlands that none of them can outright refuse to help, because its all hands on deck for all tasks on rotation, and with Laezel finally sleeping, someone has to hold the baby.
Astarion holds "it" at an arms length and has a staring contest with him until someone takes pity and removes the child from his reluctant care.
Karlach gets so excited to help and is very entertaining, playing games and cooing and giggling with Xan- but she cant pick her up.
Shadowheart eventually finds a way to take over caring for Laezel, and when that happens,
Wyll is really the winner here. Hes got that baby strapped to him in an expert swaddle wrap. He figures out how to feed the kid while fighting off a stray shadow creature with his other hand. He kisses the baby on the head every 5 minutes.
Finally, when the Gith come in the night to warn everyone, maybe they have to take Xan with them, with the promise that Laezel may re-aquire him when all is safe (or as is the other option, he may go to live in the Astral Realm at a Gith monastery)

18, 22, 25 if you like!!
18. it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on…
Ooooh. That's a good question. Ok, couple options: Wyll's repressed drive for power, and how much of that ties into how Mizora treats him. How him becoming Duke Ravenguard is obviously his bad ending, and how similar it is to his absolute ending. Karlach's absolute ending. The joys of Minthara/Gale. Minthara/Astarion. Wacky mom!Lae'zel adventures.
Worse - you forget to give the egg to Lae'zel, so there are newspaper articles about the gith baby hatching in the Elfsong tavern, wrecking havoc. Do Tav and Astarion adopt the baby gith they forgot????? Wait, worse - unromanced Astarion fucks off to the Elfsong like 3 days later, after everyone else has partied and left, and finds the egg just as it's hatching. They're both monsters hiding in the dark, forgotten: but now he feels just a tad responsible for it. Maybe it bites him and that's like, vampire bonding language, you know. feral cat vibes. gremlin vibes. I NEED THIS (I literally just mentioned how I dislike happy ending dad!astarion. This is different. This is "throw child at Astarion and watch him throw a fit." As it's a githyanki, they might actually survive the process once he figures out they need something more substantial than blood and bread.)
Anyway I also like putting Astarion in awkward positions like imagining him getting recognized in taverns he used to hunt in. That's why I wrote him being banned from Sharess' Caress: surely someone has caught onto what he's been doing, even though in SC they think he's a freelance prostitute stealing clients. Even though his lovers all disappear, someone must recognize him. Some people go to the same bar every day for years. It's impossible that no one knows him. Let some patriar recognize him! Let someone mention Cazador in a positive light to his face! Make him squirm.
22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
This is absolutely not a surprise to anyone but Cazador's mansion is my favorite part. There's so much mystery and hidden stories everywhere - how do the human servants interact with the spawn? How much do they see? Do the spawn get to kick them around? What's up with the werewolves? Cazador clearly can be diplomatic - how is he with them? Does he schmooze at parties? Do people think he's funny because he's very funny. I just - I feel like it implies that Cazador just roasts Astarion on occasion and elicits laughter from the other spawn. I think that's where a lot of Astarion's absolutely savage snark comes from. (I overthink how much of Astarion's demeanor looks like Cazador's. There are similarities!!!!) Astarion said the spawn weren't allowed to learn Kozakuran. Does this imply they tried? Did they try to gain favor with Cazador by learning his language? Does he leave notebooks in Kozakuran around, or books? (Remember, Astarion has never seen that gate to the ballroom closed.)
ok but ignores - honestly my brain is kind of fried at this point and I've just got Caz on the brain. I'll come back to this if anything else occurs to me!
25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing People complaining about "Save the Artist" in Act 3. It's not that hard. Yes, the camera sucks for different levels, but it's not that bad, and tbh I liked the storyline. I've seen some takes that absolutely shit on Oskar Fevras for bringing back his old flame to ask her if she killed herself over him, and yeah, it's short sighted, but emotionally I completely get where he's coming from. Dude's a dumbass who keeps knocking it out of the park with women who are too good for him, but I think anyone would feel the way he did in that circumstance. I liked the story and it's a freaking haunted mansion, dude, I will forgive a lot for that.

Imaging our cute little fella Varrl get the chance to join Orpheus and learns the Way of Monks from him. Maybe he already read books about monks. Rosymorn surely holds some interesting about their ways.
#githyanki#baldur's gate 3#Youth Varrl#He is so cute#If I could I would have put him in my bag with the Gith egg!#He also has the same eyebrow piercing like Orpheus#They need connection!

Idk if Larian ever took this into consideration when they wrote the whole Gith Egg questline, especially considering it dead-ends unless you give it to a member of the Society of Brilliance-
but like..... Whose baby is this. I know the Githyanki don't have the same concept of parenthood as most other Forgotten Realms cultures (although the invocation of "Mother Gith" implies they recognize some form of parent-child connection, even loosely) but that egg was laid by someone. Someone from creche Yl'lek surely. And if you fought your way out after shit goes down with the Zaith'isk and the Inquisitor, someone you might've killed.
#baldur's gate 3#bg3#twilitalks#don't mind me getting emotional about The Gith Egg Baby#and how I wish there was a way to hatch it without the resulting child being experimented upon and tortured :(
