Gliding Barnicles is another surf event located in Figueira da Foz 🇵🇹. Gliding barnacles visual identity is very hand crafted and has a tangible feel to it which is the elements I felt most drawn to. The typography is guirky, and all captial with interesting negative spaces in between the letters and also the individual letters themselves. This could be something to consider when crafting Hang Ten Festival’s visual identity.

Funky typeface and retro/old school colours of cream, brown and orange. These are the elements which could potentially be implemented into the design identity. A kook is a pre-beginner surfer, an aspiring wave rider, a nerd, or someone who tries - and fails - to mimic the surfing lifestyle. Kooks are careless, odd, exotic, and ridiculous. These illustrations are printed using archival inks on thick 240g durable fine art paper. The textures and colours caught my eye, the organicness, and roughness is something to consider when creating the design identity.

Love the texture of the paper and the orange blood moon. The mixture of outlined drawings and fill colour is interesting.

The sketchy look, hand drawn illustrations is what drew me in, shading and the added colour. The camping and festival passes are also something to consider as I want it to be a 3day festival, where you camp close or right above the beach. There is a significant contrast between the typography and the illustrations.

The pattern, of the lined drawing of the wave is what drew me in, its abstract and can be applied across collateral in different ways through scale and repetition. The movement of the logo is also fun, and works in context. A few things to consider implementing in my own design. I don’t like the purple, but I do like the patchy typography which has some texture to it.

I like how the the two layers fit into each other, through negative space. This is the vertical logo. Interesting how the logo can be applied vertically and horizontally. 

Again this similar font/typography, looks crafted and authentic. Uneven and edgy.

March 24th

*Chaos :) But trying to find some stillness.* -Just sent an email to La Vitrola asking if, given the circumstances, they are willing to refund us. It's the only venue that I had to pay for. All other shows in Montreal are cancelled. -The band is bouncing back rather well though: they are collaborating with brands with a lot of followers on Instagram, and they are doing online live shows on these accounts. The goal is to reach out to new people (aka the followers of those brands). I think it’s a good idea, it’s a way to show that they’re still active despite everything, that they’re trying to engage with their audience, and trying to gain new followers.
