Crowns and Souls rambling

I've been thinking about the Bishops a lot in my AU, particularly their crowns and the nature of souls. My thoughts are that, in order to ascend into godhood, a god has to sacrifice their mortality, which in this case would be a big part of their soul or if they want to detach from all emotion, their entire soul. The Bishops of the Old Faith all did that, with Shamura being the first to give their entire soul away in order to fully become the God of Knowledge and War.

When a god fully dies (body dies and they get separated from the crown via death), their soul remains in the Crown until a new bearer is found. That's when the previous bearer's soul is released and that former god is allowed to rest. It's different when the Bishops die, since they get sent to purgatory instead of being fully destroyed.

With Narinder (and eventually, Abel) interrupting the natural flow of life (especially with resurrection), the Crowns of the Old Faith still exist and are hidden deep within their domains, Darkwood, Anura, Anchordeep and Silk Cradle. Eventually, the Mystic Seller (Marbas) and those in the higher godly hierarchy summon Abel and Ferry (who has, through traversing through the Lands of the Old Faith prior to meeting everyone, managed to inherit some traits of the Crowns of the Old Faith [chaos, bountiful harvest, healing]) and tell them that they both have to go through the LOTOF one more time to free the souls of the Bishops trapped within the Crowns.

I don't have designs down for each crown yet, but what I'm going for is similar to what was done in the Kirby series, particularly Kirby's Return to Dreamland with Magolor's Soul and how it's goopy and dripping, fully corrupted the soul it possesses in order to fight. Even has a phantom/melting form of each Bishop's eldritch form
