It’s Anakin’s Gotcha Day! 😻 5/31/12 ❤️ 12 Years Ago Today! 🐾 Here’s my very 1st post about Anakin…. We have a new kitten! A very special new kitten. I wasn't looking to get another cat right now but you know how these things just happen. About two weeks ago a kitten without back legs started coming over to eat with the other feral cats at my dad's work. My first few trips to attempt to catch him didn't work out. Then Thursday (5/31/2012), Ian, Angel & I went to see if this was the day we could catch him. The kitten was cowering in the bushes & I climbed into the bushes & pulled the kitten out. We brought the kitten home & I set it up in our hall bathroom, exactly like I did with Trixie & Pixie two years earlier. Friday morning (6/1/2012) I took him to our vet as soon as they opened. Our vet said she has never seen anything like him before & he is amazing & that it's also amazing that his mother took care of him even with his handicap. She examined him & he is a little boy, approximately 6 to 8 weeks old & it in really good health. Two xrays on him showed he was born with no pelvis or back legs. We let him walk around the room for a minute to see how he moves. He positions his front legs at an angle towards the middle of his body & balances his backend in the air with the use of his tail touching the ground if he needs it. He gets around really well that way & is pretty quick too. The xray also showed that his insides were not malformed, last was the feline leukemia test. He's came back negative. So we got him vaccinated, dewormed & a little flea meds & unless we have any problems with him, he goes back to the vet in three weeks :) Now, he is home getting comfy in his little bathroom & will be there for a while till he is bigger, stronger & ready to be socialized with the other cats & our dog. He is such a sweet calm little guy :) He is happy to cuddle in our laps & purrs really loud. He likes to play with a little toy mouse & also chase a beaded necklaces around on the floor. We have decided to name him Anakin & will be calling him "Ani" (yes after Anakin Skywalker :D ) Here's a video of him walking ~ http://youtu.be/zMIBxFtvZKI

Yesterday was our girl, Athena's, gotcha day.

9 years ago, we adopted Athena from a local shelter during one of the worst spring snowstorms we have ever had in our area. We had lost our 18 year old canine companion, Dodger, a few months back and wanted to welcome another senior into our home. When we got to the shelter, we immedietly fell in love with Athena's photo, though she was nowhere to be seen. We waited patiently until she returned from a walk with a possible adopter. She was only about a year and a half at this time, and with her shepherd energy, he decided she pulled too much. So, we got to spend some time with her. Her whole time with us, in the room, she kept pacing and looking for someone. We learned that she had just been returned to the shelter and that she was looking for the people who returned her. Though it wasn't an immediate connection, once we got home, she settled right in, and from then on, she decided we would be her forever family. So, here we are, 9 years later, living and enjoying life. We decided to celebrate by taking a trip to the local mountain town, walked the river, and got some lunch after. We have a tradition of getting Good Times on this day, as it was what we got on our way home from the shelter. Burgers and Paw-Benders. That is our yearly tradition. (Though I know milk-bones aren't a good treat to give, this is the exception.)

We know that our world changed when Athena became part of our family, and we know that hers had too. She had a rough start, bouncing from shelter to shelter and family to family. She went through years of separation anxiety and needed a loving home where she could learn to trust again. Though some times were tough, we have made it through and are so thankful we found each other. She will forever be our forever dog.

It’s Curly’s Gotcha Day! 9 years ago today, Curly became part of my family. He was only 7 months old when I adopted him and brought him home from the Humane Society and ever since then, he thinks he runs the house. His favorite hobbies are eating, sleeping, reading ebooks and fanfics and also sitting in my lap watching the Hallmark Channel and Dolphins football games with me. He loves to get his pic taken with the Snapchat filters and becoming internet famous.
