Christopher Lightwood was the worst, the saddest, the hardest death to get through that Cassie has ever written.

More than Livvy or George Lovelace. Christopher was the closest to the main characters, if not a main character himself, part of a solid group and actually had a future laid out for him (his inventions, Grace) and it was stolen from him.

Christopher Lightwood deserved better. Ave Atque Vale, Kit.

As Alastair Carstairs slid onto the rink once more, the olympic stadium was so quiet the only sound to be heard for miles was that of his skates cutting through the smooth ice.

While his fabulous attire caused a massive ripple the surprisingly heteronormative men’s figure skating community, his movements only caused a slight ripple in the fabric of his navy blue skirt. The silver diamonds flowing downward like manufactured tears silently clinked against each other. The color scene of his costume perfectly matched the streaks in his hair and the gold hoops and silver studs along his upper earlobe were just icing on the cake.

Thousands of Iranian flags surrounded him, all encompassing walls of green, white and red. It was Iran’s second year placing in this particular sport and the second year of Alastair’s career outside of the junior league. Only Charles Fairchild was idiotic enough to believe this was a coincidence.

Alastair stopped directly in front of the second place winner and spun around to face the crowd. He blew a kiss to his younger sister, Cordelia. The camera zoomed in on her as she jokingly swallowed it.

When the gold metal was draped over Alastair’s neckline, the audience’s cheers roared so loud people watching from the comfort of their homes were forced to refuse the volume by several bars in order to keep their hearing intact. The people witnessing it live lost that hope during Alastair’s free skate routine.

Barbara dropped her brother's hand and stuck both her fingers in her ears to block out the noise. While Eugenia hurriedly stood and lifted Tomás into the air in an act of celebration. (A feat that would become nearly impossible in just a few short months.)

Once returned to the ground, Tomás fixed his attention to the boy on the screen again. Beautiful.

Tomás had begun skating on recommendation from his physical therapist to ‘get active’. Not the smartest decision on her part, for he had injured, to some degree, every bone in his body from the leg down. But it kept him busy and his family loved going to his competitions an embarrassing amount.

Throughout the entirety of his career, Tomás had been mediocre at best. However watching the god in human form known as Alastair Carstairs skate lit a something in him he hadn’t even known was there. A desire to excel.

Tomás closed his eyes and imagined being able to do something as breathtaking as what he’d just witnessed.

One day, he promised himself, one day.

Do you think Grace and Christopher will be endgame romantically?

Yes. I don’t really ship them, but I do think they will be endgame. All the signs are there, and I’m not referring to the family tree. 

In Chain of Iron alone, there are two separate scenes (not that they interact much more than that) that are entirely written to foreshadow their wedding:

1) when Matthew sends Kit instead of James to meet Grace in the drawing room, Christopher and Grace enter the chapel and basically walk down the aisle together, COME ON

2) when Grace goes to see Christopher in the lab and traces a rune on his arm... that is literally half the wedding ceremony for Shadowhunters

Do I like them? No, sorry. Do I think they will happen? Most definitely. Do I think they won’t be endgame? It would make sense, narratively, for either or both of them dying, actually (Grace would get redemption; Kit would solve the issue of the surplus of Lightwoods), but I think there are higher chances of them surviving and getting married later on.

Fix-it fic for Chain of Thorns! Grace invents time travel in order to go back and save Christopher. In the process, all of Christopher's friends and family contribute to the mission. Happy ending for Gracestopher!

Notes: Grace changes her and Christopher's fate, so it's a change from canon. This ending actually aligns with the Discovered Family Tree (Esme Hardcastle edition). Grace and Christopher are sort of depicted as demisexual (if you're not into that you can still read, just skip the last chapter). Small crossover with the character, Dr. Gwyn Davies, from Dc's Legends of Tomorrow whose work helps Grace invent time travel. Small mentions only of other ships. Fix-it scenes between Christopher/Thomas, Christopher/James, Christopher/Jesse, Grace/Jesse, Grace/Cordelia and James, Grace/Matthew will hopefully be satisfying.

as a (probably? still thinking about it) ace person myself, i would LOVE for christopher lightwood to be asexual. i mean, i dont really fancy the general idea of the scientist who’s too invested in his job/passion to think about romantic relationships, because i am a chemistry student who loves science more than anything, but that doesnt mean that all scientists only focus on this.

i grew up never thinking too much about relationships while my friends did. some of my friends are studying scientific subjects right now. they are in a relationship or have crushes or think about love in general. it’s just me who has a different view, because that’s my sexuality. the “scientist = ace/aro” thing is not automatic AT ALL. please just remember this.

anyway, what i was saying is that christopher is the type of scientist, and especially person, who doesnt really give a shit about somebody’s appearance. what he cares about, from what we’ve seen so far, is people’s personality and emotions. he cares about his friends and family deeply, and he just wants everybody to be safe and sound.

being an exaggerated (!!!!!!!) gracestopher shipper is STRESSFUL, let me tell you that, because not only do we not have any content, but also WE DONT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT FROM CHAIN OF IRON, but what im hoping for is christopher falling in love with grace while they work together to bring jesse back, and not because she’s beautiful and has that bitch of a power that allows her to convince every single man on earth to do whatever she wants. he falls in love with her because he sees something special about her. her perspicacity, intelligence, fondness and determination. can you picture that? how CUTE WOULD THAT BE?
