here's a westbound manifest on Norfolk Southern's line to Chicago (through northern Ohio and Indiana—former New York Central). I was attracted to the vintage grain elevator here. Was hoping to find out when it was built and such but a quick search garnered no results.

Elevators

Exploring the panhandle of Texas, I took a few shots in Dalhart. These two elevators were close to where the C&S, which ran between Denver and Fort Worth, crossed the Rock Island line down to Tucumcari, New Mexico, where it met the Southern Pacific. Of course the lines are now BNSF and Union Pacific respectively.

The grain elevator is a monumental agricultural structure from a time long since past. Wooden grain elevators such as this Alberta Wheat Pool elevator, near Chauvin Alberta, were once a common sight throughout the prairies but with changes in agricultural practices, they have since been made obsolete by larger central terminals made of concrete.
