Harry always mentions how grateful he is, saying 'things like this don’t usually happen to people like me.' He’s said it at several shows, and the last time was at the grammys.

I know he should’ve been more prepared for the speech, but looking back at that moment now, two years later, and seeing how consistent he is in the way he expresses himself, I think harry got nervous, let his guard down, and just said how he really felt. I feel like people were a bit unfair to him with the criticism, though that’s from my perspective as a fan.

Sometimes I wonder how much effort and self-awareness it takes to always behave according to the image the public has of you and not how you really are and feel. I would be so tired of pretending. I think the same applies to Louis.

People were so obnoxious to him that night. I was so angry on his behalf. From the heckling about how Beyoncé should have won to the performance being fucked up to the dozens of think pieces picking his speech apart… it just makes me pissed because it was such a huge moment for him.

Hey! I was going over some things that happened in the last few years, and something I noticed is that Harry always mentions how grateful he is, saying 'things like this don’t usually happen to people like me.' He’s said it at several shows, and the last time was at the grammys 2023.

I know he should’ve been more prepared, but looking back at that moment now, two years later, and seeing how consistent he is in the way he expresses himself, I think he got nervous, let his guard down, and just said how he really felt. I feel like people were a bit unfair to him with the criticism, though that’s from my perspective as a fan.

I HATE that his well-deserved Grammy win was overshadowed by this. I HATE that people misunderstood what he meant. But at the same time, I really think he should have known better at that point. Even as a fan, it felt like a mistake that simply shouldn’t have happened. I just think that speech had multiple layers of meaning. Yes, one interpretation is that he was referring to a part of himself he doesn’t openly share with the public, but it was also about his background, about just feeling like a normal guy. So I wouldn’t interpret this as “pretending” or playing both sides, to be honest. But more as a different interpretation of self-awareness, where he realised the gap between what he intended to say and how it would actually be perceived by that audience and at that moment in time. And that’s where he really missed the mark, in my opinion. He didn’t read the room correctly, and that wasn’t the right audience for that message.

I totally agree with you that it must be exhausting to experience cognitive dissonance between who you are and the version of yourself you present to the world. That’s something every artist deals with, but with Harry and Louis, there’s an added layer to it. That being said, I also understand why they still find it worthwhile. I’m sure it wasn’t their choice in the beginning, but if it had become truly unbearable, I believe they would have found a way to change it by now. So I honestly think it’s important for them to express their essence, vulnerability, and true selves in different ways. Maybe that’s what Harry was trying to say in his speech as well.

👆🏻 i really felt so bad for him at the grammys like his aoty win will forever be tainted from being heckled and then getting cancelled that night. i’m glad the brits sweep happened and he was treated well that night cause otherwise what a fucking negative to leave on.

Not only that, but the fact that his live performance was fucked up and made it look like he couldn’t hit his notes, was clumsy and nervous, and that they didn’t rehearse. I’m so angry on his behalf.
