Protocol Labs is proud to continue its collaboration with Asia-based Web3 accelerator LongHash Ventures for the LongHashX Demo Day, hosted in the Cryptovoxels metaverse. The event on January 17th and 18th will be divided into two tracks: the DeFi track enabled by Asia DeFi Network and the Filecoin Frontier Accelerator track supported by Protocol Labs.

Note: This is a para for a Sunday dinner at the Cartwrights, so it’s open to any character of any age or gender that attends those events. A reference of the Cartwright estate in Los Angeles can be found HERE.

Kailani had settled on a bright summery yellow skirt and a navy polkadot top for dinner at the Cartwrights. It seemed to her like this new baby was determined to let everyone know she was pregnant and she simply couldn’t find comfortable pants for her thin legs and growing belly. Admittedly, it made getting ready a bit more easily because half of her closet had become off limits and a third of the remaining half was swimwear. Still, something bothered her about not being able to express herself like she used to. Instead of fussing about it she took her bunnies to the garden to pick some flowers for her friends while Bayoa got ready. Then, with a bouquet of gardenias, catmint, baby’s breath and forsythia in hand Bay, Benji, and Kai made their way with Sirius to the Cartwrights.

Benji waddled with one hand firmly clasped to Bayoa as they knocked on the door. Kai couldn’t see who opened the door but it was rare that it was Micah or Alessandra, who were usually in the kitchen or dining room depending on the time that they arrived. From the amount of cars on the long driveway, Kailani could only assume there would be several new faces to meet. One by one, her family split up into the various common areas of the Cartwright’s massive home and Kailani found herself in the kitchen. Stealing a vase from the familiar cabinet by the french doors to the deck she greeted Aless in Italian, Micah in English, and asked where they would like the flowers. With direction she slipped outside and made her way down the deck’s staircase to the long dinner table by the couple’s mini-vineyard.

Having been focusing on her careful steps across the estate so not to trip, Kailani hadn’t taken notice of anyone else this far across the yard or following behind her. It wasn’t until she was done arranging the flowers in the vase that she realized there was a whole cluster of friends from The Network chatting over cheese and fruit appetizers at the edge of the property’s pond. She excitedly made her way over. She slipped into the corner of a longer couch and reached over, snatching up a couple of grapes before greeting the person next to her. “Where have you been? I feel like it’s been ages since I’ve been to Micah’s and Aless’ Sunday dinners to see everyone. Have you been well?”

Benefits of Pruning

John 15:2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.

I’ve only read about the pruning grapes online and how it is a necessary step vine dressers do to increase the produce of grapes. Lately, my appreciation of pruning has grown when I started taking care of plants.

This is my polkadot plant named Estes. Yes he’s named after a Mobile Legends character haha (and also because the scientific name of the polka dot plant is Hypoestes).

Like an eager plantita I made a mistake of buying this plant on impulse because it’s one of those indoor plants that are cat friendly, and I really really wanted to have an indoor plant. I failed to inspect it further on how the plant was already leggy, top leaves curling up and some edges browning and it basically wasn’t in the best shape. 

Since I had already bought it, I had to make do and try to find out how to best take care of it. One article I read talked about pinching and pulling back the top leaves to keep it from getting too leggy and to keep it bushy.

I did try to prune Estes - some I cut a bit too low and some just above the top. The cuttings I propagated in water, some grew roots, some didn’t (and I’m still hoping it will but it’s been too long and no roots til now) 

When I checked on Estes, I noticed that new leaves were now sprouting just below the node where I had pruned it. 

After the roots from the cuttings had grown a bit more I replanted it into the pot to make the plant bushier on the bottom.

Pruning allowed my plant to sprout new leaves and I hope I’ll be able to take care of  them and help them grow to be healthy leaves.

Apart from my Hypoestes I’ve been enjoying pruning my basil and mint plant and watching it get fuller after the pruning process. There’s a certain joy when you see your plants thrive and grow.  I can only imagine how many times more the joy of the Lord must be when we grow in our character to be more like Christ.

Looking after plants made me have a deeper appreciation of what God must feel when He sees us growing to be more like Christ.

Pruning is never easy and never comfortable, but after the pruning process with plants you will see the result and growth that result with the pruning. The same principle applies with us as God allows us to go through suffering and trials; because it produces perseverance and perseverance character, and character hope (Romans 5:3-4)

If you are in a season of pruning right now, I pray that you would find joy in the promise that God is faithful to finish the work that He began in you and that as gold is refined in fire so our character will be refined to be more like Him. The pruning season will end eventually, and when it does we will be a better version of ourselves than we were prior.

There was something of a bounce in Nagisa’s step as he ran this way and that, trying to perfect everything before his guest arrived. Sleepovers were one of his favorite things in the whole world, so he was somewhat of an expert on them. Subsequently, he had all of the right stuff: big blankets and fluffy pillows, an array of horror movies and some romantic comedies, a whole collection of different candies, and a bottle of sparkling grape juice.
