Sequel to this adorable prompt!

You giggle under your breath as you hold your prize in your hands. It’s a Hello Kitty plush you just picked up from Build a Bear. You paid extra for the strawberry scent and your grin grows evil as you contemplate your plot. Homelander is out of town on a press tour but he’s due to be back tonight. You can’t wait for him to meet his new roommate.

You tuck the plush into his bed, tugging the covers up and nestling her into the pillows. The red bow matches nicely with his flag sheets and you have half a mind to crawl in as well for a little nap. But alas, the surprise won’t have the same impact if he sees you lurking about. So you give her a little kiss and make your way back home. You can’t help but flip the bird at the presidential wall as you leave; just on principle alone. You don’t think the portraits will ever stop creeping you out.

A few hours pass and you settle back into your home routine. You’re streaming your favorite show and absentmindedly stroking the misshapen squishmallow on your lap when you hear the door open and shut loudly. You chuckle under your breath at the thud of his heavy footsteps. He turns the corner, carrying the poor cat with his hand on a death grip around her throat. He tosses it at you and once you catch it you immediately start fluffing back what his iron grip has smushed.

“It smells like fucking chemicals. What is that shit?”He huffs, arms crossed. You roll your eyes playfully as his narrow.

“Everything smells like chemicals y’know; at least when you think about it scientifically. And I had to pay extra for the strawberry so I think you should be a little more grateful.” You smirk.

“Grateful? I’m not a five year old girl.” He frowns at the plush in your lap as you pet it. The glint in his eyes almost looks like jealousy as they follow the movement of your hand.

“You’re throwing a tantrum like one.” You respond, but you rise from the couch to press against him; removing some of the sting from your words. He doesn’t seem to take too much offense but he continues to scowl at the innocent offender laying on the couch cushion. You kiss his cheek fondly and his shoulders relax even if his face does not.

“C’mon, I saw it and thought of you instantly. I know how much you love Hello Kitty. I figured she could keep you company whenever I can’t be with you. You can hold her close and pretend it’s me.” You snuggle in right under his chin and he sighs. His arm wraps around you and he inhales deeply. The tension slowly drains from his body as your presence begins to relax his nerves. He’s always uptight but ever since you wormed your way into his life, he feels any annoyance much more keenly in your absence. Being away from you for so long was hard. Your gift may have been a way to prank him after his previous attitude, but the sentiment behind it was genuine.

“You should have sprayed your perfume on it then. Because that does not smell like strawberry.” He grumbles as he buries his face in your hair.

“My mistake.” You reply fondly, hand reaching up to play with the hair at the nape of his neck.

You honestly expected him to throw it out but you are pleasantly surprised to find it tucked under one of his pillows next time you find yourself at his place. The strawberry scent has faded, replaced by Homelander’s own. You can’t help but laugh at the poor scruffy state of her. Her midsection is squished flat with a distinctly head shaped dent. You don’t say anything. You just put her back where you found her; a warm feeling blooming pleasantly in your chest. It looks like Homelander doth protest too much. You’ll make a Hello Kitty fan of him yet.
