men and minors dni
there isn't a big fight. well, that's not entirely true. you fight it tooth and nail, but sevika stays stoic, sad, and sure. she's breaking up with you. you don't understand why.
"i thought things were good-- i thought you loved me!" you shout. you're in your pajamas, had been expecting sevika to come home and cuddle you. you never would've guessed this was coming.
she nods. "they are. i do." she says.
"so then why the fuck--"
"i don't know!" she shouts suddenly. it's silent as she gathers her thoughts. "i just can't do this anymore." she says softly.
"you can't be serious." you whisper. sevika shrugs, looking down at her feet. "what happened today?" you ask. "you-- everything was fine this morning!" sevika shrugs again, still not looking at you. you scoff.
if she had said something, she would've said that today at work she narrowly avoided a knife to her stomach. she would've said that she's never been scared to die before, but today-- she was terrified. all she could think about was your face when you'd get the news. all she could think about was how she could never hurt you like that.
if she had said something, you wouldn't have stormed off to pack a duffel bag, muffling your sobs with the back of your hand.
if she had said something, you would've stayed-- told her that you're both guaranteed to die someday, that you just wanted to spend every moment alive you could with her.
but she didn't. so you left.
sevika is miserable without you. she thought she'd just be back to her old self, the person she was before you-- grumpier, quieter, more tired.
she wasn't. she was much worse than that.
she felt physically ill each morning when she woke up without you beside her. each night, she'd lay in bed awake, her mind replaying the pathetic sobs you tried to hide from her while you packed your bags that night.
each time she comes home to an empty apartment it's like a punch to her gut. her closet is bare now, without your clothes shoved up against hers. her shelves are nearly empty-- all your knickknacks and books gone.
so she starts avoiding home. starts spending more and more hours at the last drop, nowhere near ready to return to babettes. the thought of fucking someone besides you makes her sick.
she doesn't hear from you at all.
you aren't doing much better than she is, but you're determined to avoid her at all costs. the thought of seeing her makes you cry.
about a month after the break up, you bump into her on the street.
you were walking home from the market, hands full with paper bags, trying to figure out what you were going to cook for dinner.
you bumped into someone, cursing and apologizing, cutting yourself off when you look up and your eyes meet with sevika's.
you're both shocked to silence. for a heartbreaking moment, everything feels normal again, like the two of you are walking home from the market together and sevika's stopped in the middle of the street to kiss you.
you shake your head. that's not what's happening here.
you take a step away from her. "hey, sevika." you say sadly.
her heart breaks at the use of her full name. you were the only one who ever called her 'sev.' she missed the nickname.
"hey." she grunts awkwardly. you look around, trying to avoid her gaze, and let out a spiteful laugh when you see the building sevika's loitering in front of.
"back to your girls already?" you spit. sevika freezes, looking over her shoulder at the glowing neon light of babette's.
"no i'm not-- silco's here on business."
"right." you say sarcastically, taking another step away from her. "'s this why you ended it? missed 'em that much?" you ask. "or maybe you were fuckin' 'em all along. didn't want me to figure it out."
you're spiraling right in the middle of the street, all the rage and sadness and grief boiling over at the sight of sevika.
"don't be fucking stupid. you know i'd never cheat on you." she spits. you laugh hysterically.
"yeah, well there were a lot of things i thought i knew, sevika." you say. "thought i knew you were the one." you shrug. "guess i was wrong about that, though, huh?"
you may as well have ripped her heart out through her chest. she realizes then what she's done to you, how heartbroken you truly are. she has to ball her hands into fists to keep from reaching up and brushing your tears away. she bites her tongue and reminds herself that this is what she wanted.
"have a good night." you say, sidestepping her and hitching your paper bags further up your hip. "don't forget to tip your girl."
your friends take you out one night in an attempt to cheer you up. it's been a month and a half since the breakup, and you still feel just as gutted and horrible as the night it happened.
they take you to the last drop, but only after you give it the okay. you still have sevika's schedule memorized, so the only reason you agree is because you know she'll be off tonight.
it's nice to be back. sevika's coworkers greet you with smiles and hugs, telling you they've missed having you around, asking you where you've been.
you realize that sevika hasn't told them about the breakup. it makes you furious.
"she broke up with me." you say to theriam as he whips up your usual drink order. he freezes.
"seriously?" you nod. "what the fuck'd she do that for?" he asks. you try not to burst into tears at the question, simply shrugging.
"wish i knew." you whisper. "think she got bored of me." he scoffs behind the bar.
"no way, she's obsessed with you. it all makes sense now, she's been a total bitch for like... five or six weeks now." he says. "she's been miserable." he adds. you shrug again.
"yeah?" you ask. he nods. "good." you say. he chuckles and passes you your drink, telling you to have a fun night.
you and your friends dance and drink-- and for a few hours you really do manage to feel okay again. that is, until sevika walks in.
your eyes meet across the dance floor and you both freeze. sevika feels something warm bubble up in her stomach at the sight of you, and she tries to swallow it down.
she storms to the bar to drink away her feelings, downing three shots in quick succession before ordering a drink.
you keep your eyes trained on sevika, a fact she's well aware of. she can feel your gaze on her, she's always been able to. she wonders if she should come talk to you, wonders if it would be the right thing to say hello.
she catches your eye from the bar and waves shyly at you. you roll your eyes at her but wave back anyways. she has to bite back a grin.
beside her, a woman's hand slowly snakes up her arm. she's so caught up in the sight of you she doesn't notice one of babette's girls (for the life of her she can't remember her name) draping herself over sevika until the woman's purring in sevika's ear.
"long time no see, sevika." she whispers, her tongue flicking sevika's earlobe. sevika jumps in her seat, whipping around to face the woman, then back around to face you.
you look devastated.
you look... slightly green.
sevika pushes the woman off of her as you bolt from the bar, running after you.
she finds you vomiting in the alley between bouts of crying.
"shit." she says at the sight of you. she walks over to pull your hair back from your face and rub on your back, only to be furiously smacked away by you.
"get the fuck away from me!" you cry out before another round of bile forces its way out of you. she doesn't move, and your vomit splatters on her shoes. it makes you feel slightly better.
"you okay, baby?" she asks. the petname rolls off her tongue subconciously, and she cringes when she hears herself say it.
you snap up from where you were bent over, fire in your eyes as you shove sevika away from you with both hands, hard. she barely stumbles.
"you do not get to call--"
"i know." she cuts you off. "i'm sorry. it was a mistake." she says softly.
suddenly, you're bursting into tears. you bury your face in your hands and try to compose yourself, but something about sevika's presence makes it impossible.
across from you, sevika is digging her nails into her palm to keep from reaching out and gathering you in her arms. she tries speaking.
"it's not what it looks like." she says. you laugh between your cries, shaking your head.
"none of my business anyways, you're not mine anymore." you reply shakily. with a deep breath, you pry your hands away from your face, wiping away your tears and snot.
it's sevika's turn to laugh. "don't be ridiculous." she says. you blink up at her in confusion, your eyes wide and watery, and something inside her snaps. "of course i'm still yours!" she shouts. you jump at the outburst. "i can't sleep, i can't eat, i'm a fucking mess all the time. i can't even-- i can't even step foot inside babette's, the thought of someone else makes me sick to my stomach. i can't go home either-- not without you there. you're all i ever think about, and i miss you so much it hurts!" she finishes with a shout. rage bubbles up inside of you.
"then why'd you break up with me, jackass?!" you spit out. "you did that, remember? that wasn't me, that was you. none of this is my fault-- i don't even know why it happened! you left for work one morning as the love of my life and you came home that night and dumped me! i-- you-- you fucking broke my heart," your voice cracks, "and now you're acting like it's my fucking fault!"
sevika is silent. this is the last thing she ever wanted. she broke up with you to avoid this, to avoid the horrible heartbroken look on your face, to avoid the way your hands are shaking uncontrollably by your sides. it occurs to her now, with you sobbing uncontrollably in front of her, that maybe leaving you wasn't the best way to keep you safe and happy. maybe you needed her as much as she needed you.
she thinks about it for a second, how heartbroken she would've been if you'd dumped her out of the blue with no explanation. she thinks she'd probably have gone on a murderous rampage.
oh shit, she thinks as she watches you storm past her back into the bar, i've made a horrible mistake.
sevika spends the rest of the weekend working on 'operation: win you back.' it goes something like this:
on monday morning you get to work and find an envelope stuffed in your locker. you open it curiously, it isn't signed or addressed, and you wonder if it's an old paycheck your manager forgot to give you.
inside is a five page handwritten letter from sevika. upon seeing her handwriting, you scoff and crumble the letter up, throwing it back in your locker and slamming the door.
that night, though, as you're shoving your coat on to leave for work, you can't help but slip the ball of paper into your pocket. you tell yourself it's just to take it home to throw away, but you know it's a lie.
you read it in bed that night, sobbing. the letter is unfiltered and rambling, you chuckle a few times at lines you can practically hear sevika speaking out loud in your mind.
"i think i fucked up," is one of your favorite lines, second to "i'm never going to be able to stop loving you."
the letter details everything, the near death miss you'd never known about, the way she had a panic attack in the back of the last drop afterwards, her mind imagining your heartbroken wails as you get the news she's died. she writes about how miserable she was without you, how everything seemed to get dimmer, how food lost its taste, and drinking lost its fun. she writes about realizing how much she must have hurt you, how sorry she is for being so careless with your heart.
you fall asleep with the papers pressed against your chest.
on tuesday, you wake up to someone knocking at your door, a deliveryman with a bouquet you needed to sign for.
when you take the flowers inside you open the card in the front. it simply reads, 'have a good day. S.'
on wednesday, you bump into sevika as you leave work to start your walk home. she avoids your gaze as she asks to walk you home. you say yes, heart melting at the awkward way she's rubbing the back of her neck.
"how've you been?" she asks you. you chuckle and shrug.
"goin' through a rough patch with my girlfriend, so you know. things could be better." you say.
you don't miss the grin that grows on sevika's face when you refer to her your girlfriend. she doesn't mention it, and you don't either, but you do reach out to snatch her hand into yours.
she doesn't kiss you goodbye when you get home, but she does hug you for a solid three minutes, breathing in your scent, soaking in the way you feel against her body.
god, she'd missed you.
nothing happens on thursday. at least, that's what you think until you get home and see sevika waiting outside of your front door with takeout in her hands. you raise an eyebrow at her.
"i don't remember inviting you over." you say. she shrugs.
"you don't have to let me in. just wanted to make sure you were eating right." she says as she hands the bag of food to you.
you consider her for a moment, then roll your eyes.
"come on." you say, as you unlock your door. "i don't have any whiskey but i've got some beers in the fridge."
the two of you spend the night catching up on the couch. sevika tells you all the crazy work stories she hasn't been able to tell anyone for nearly two months, and you do the same.
after a few beers, you both start talking about what went down between the two of you. sevika apologizes profusely, going into great detail on how she's going to make it up to you, how she's going to rebuild the trust she broke. you roll your eyes, trying to keep the tears from falling at her words.
"what?" she asks. you scoff.
"you're gonna make me cry again." you huff. "don't you think you've done enough of that lately?" you ask wobbly as tears start to bubble up in your eyes. sevika takes a shaky breath beside you.
"don't cry." she demands. "'cause then i'll cry." you laugh, and lean forward to bury your face in her chest.
sevika freezes for a moment, before reaching up to curl her arms around you, holding you against her as both of you cry.
you make her sleep on the couch that night, because you're still feeling a bit butthurt.
but in the middle of the night, you wake up cold and alone and acutely aware of sevika snoring twenty feet away from you. fuck it you think as you get out of bed and shuffle into the living room, nudging sevika awake.
"wha-?" she blinks awake. "you okay, honey?" you melt at the nickname.
"come on." you say, turning to walk back to your bedroom.
sevika sits in confusion for a few moments until you call for her from bed. "come on, sev!" she sprints into your room, diving into bed and giggling as she curls up in your arms.
on friday, you wake up with sevika on top of you, snoring away, right where she belongs. you breathe in the smell of her shampoo, press a kiss to her scalp, whisper sweet nothings into the top of her hair.
she wakes up somewhere between your "i love you so fuckin' much." and your "you're such a fuckin' asshole for making me pay rent all on my own."
"jus' move back in with me." she grumbles, still half asleep. you laugh.
"signed a year long lease." you say.
"so break it." she groans as she picks her head up to look at you, shuffling off your tits to lay beside you on a pillow. you turn over to face her, your noses brushing together.
"and wreck my credit? what'll happen next month when you break up with me 'cause someone shoots at you?"
it's quiet for a second, and you sigh.
"sorry. that was fuckin' rude." you grunt out. sevika shakes her head.
"it's cool, i deserve that." she says.
"it's not cool. not after last night. and this whole week. i get it, sev. i get why you did it. it just..."
"really fucking sucked of me?" she guesses. you giggle.
"yeah." you say. she smiles.
"so let me move in with you." she says with a shrug. you gawk at her. she shrugs. "i'll break my lease. i just wanna... be with you. if you'll have me."
"your apartment's half a block from your job!" you say. she shrugs. "and the shower here sucks!" she shrugs again.
"yeah, but you're here." she says easily. tears start welling in your eyes.
"okay." you huff out. sevika beams. "but i reserve the right to actually fucking murder you if you break my heart like that again." you add on. sevika grins.
"of course, baby."
you were gonna make her wait a few more days to kiss her again, but you can't keep yourself from leaning forward to kiss her breathless right then and there.
sevika's crying when you pull away.
"what's wrong!?" you ask, panicked. she giggles and pulls you in for another quick kiss before she speaks.
"nothing. i'm just so fuckin' happy you're mine again."
the two of you spend the weekend moving sevika into your apartment.
the space starts feeling like home with each box of sevika's stuff you unload.
you sleep soundly for the first time in weeks on saturday night, after sevika'd spent hours eating you out.
on sunday, she takes you out for dinner and a walk in the park. unbeknownst to you, sevika's 'win you back' plan had one final bonus step titled 'if things go well.'
you're in the middle of rambling to sevika about the book you're in the middle of reading when she stops in her tracks. you pause and turn around to look at her.
"you okay?" you ask. it's just the two of you in the park this late at night. you and a few geese swimming in the fountain pond beside you.
"i--i was gonna wait til we had a house together." sevika says. you furrow your brow in confusion. "but these past two months made it crystal clear to me that if there's ever anyone in this world who'll get me-- it's you." she says. you frown, unsure of where she's going.
"baby what--"
"and i-- you know, i'm trying to tell you my feelings now. all of them." she says. you nod, encouraging her to talk but still completely unsure of where her train of thought is headed. "so... right now-- and honestly probably for years now-- i feel like i want to marry you. and know it's probably a bad time to do this because we just broke up, but... i feel like i don't wanna wait anymore to make you my wife." she rushes out. you blink at her and she shrugs. "you don't have to--"
she's cut off by your hysterical laughter as you double over in front of her. "you're proposing!?" you gasp out. she nods in confusion. you burst into another round of laughter. "sevika!" you laugh.
"what?"
"this is a horrible time to propose! and you're not even on one knee! and you don't have a ring! you're crazy!" you say between laughs. she frowns, looking down at herself like she's just now noticing these things too. she pouts. you take a moment to compose yourself, wiping away your tears of laughter and standing back up to your full height. "you're lucky i'm fuckin' crazy for you, too." you say, leaning up to kiss her pout away.
"is-- what-- does that mean...?"
"yes. i'll marry you." you say, nodding. sevika blinks, then grins, tackling you onto the grass beneath you and kissing you breathless.
"i love you so fucking much." she says against your lips.
"i love you too." you say, giggling up at her. "good job sharing your feelings."
"yeah?" she asks you, pride shining through her voice. you grin and nod.
"definitely."
"i'm sorry i didn't do it right--"
"i don't care." you cut in. "i mean-- you're definitely getting me a ring, and a nice one too!" you say pointing up at her where she hovers above you. she nods enthusiastically. "but-- it was perfect. i mean it was horribly unromantic and i think i'm laying in goose shit right now, but it was you, you know? i'll always say yes to you." you say, grinning. sevika melts above you.
"you're the best thing that's ever happened to me." she says. you smile. sevika leans down to kiss you, not even caring that the hand she's holding herself up with is squishing a pile of shit.
hell, she'd eat shit if it meant you kept giggling and kissing her like this.
so, overall, the breakup was shit. but it ended up being one of the best things that's happened to either of you.

Used By God
“The Scriptures point to me!” John 5v39 NLT
If you want to be used by God, really used by Him, you’ve got to know two things deep in your spirit: who He is and who you are.
Jesus said to the religious leaders, “You search the Scriptures thinking they bring you life, but the Scriptures point to me” (John 5v39 NLT). He was saying, “You’ve been studying truth, but missing the Truth standing right in front of you.” So many of us are busy doing church, quoting verses, checking devotionals off our list, and yet missing the God those Scriptures are calling us to know.
To walk in your calling, you don’t need more information, you need revelation. And that only comes from intimacy, not drive-by prayers or leftover minutes. You have to give God your time, heart and full attention. When you really know Him, not just know about Him, something shifts. You begin to carry His character, presence and voice. The only God some people will encounter is the one they see shining through your life. So, let them see a God who is alive, powerful, loving, and close.
But that’s just the first part. You also need to know who you are. When God called Moses, Moses did what most of us do, He questioned his own worth. He said, “Who am I to go?” and “What if they don’t believe me?” (Exodus 3v11 and 4:1 NLT). And God didn’t try to flatter Moses or give him a pep talk. He simply said, “I Am has sent you” (Exodus 3v14 NLT). In other words, “It’s not about who you are. It’s about who I am in you.” Then God asked Moses, “What’s that in your hand?” A simple staff. Nothing flashy. Just something ordinary. But when Moses laid it down in obedience, God made it extraordinary. It turned into a sign, a wonder, a demonstration of divine power (Exodus 4:2–5 NLT).
Always remember… you already have what you need. God isn’t looking for perfection, He’s looking for surrender. Stop waiting to feel worthy and stop second-guessing your gifts. When you know the One who called you and you trust what He placed in your hands, you will walk in divine authority. You will be used by heaven to shift things on earth.
So open the Word, not just for knowledge, but to encounter Christ. Seek Him until the Scriptures stop being ink on a page and start becoming fire in your bones. Then look at your life, your hands, your story, your gifts, and know this: God already gave you everything you need to walk in purpose and power.

† Discussing Chapter 2
Horseshoe Overlook; Who is Not Without Sin
taken from John 8:1-11, A Woman Caught in Adultery (NLT ver)
links for more detailed reading: dialogue , bible
part of The Aftermath of Genesis series!
Warning! Discussions of Christianity, game spoilers!
Summary: Arthur fetches Reverend Swanson as he stumbles out of camp drunk and found him gambling. Chaos ensues.
I think this one is pretty self explanatory if you have dipped your feet in Christianity.
A Woman Caught in Adultery tells the story of people asking Jesus what to do with Mary Magdalene; an adulteress. According to the law of Moses, such acts are to be punished by stoning.
However, Jesus told them, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”
Mary Magdalene’s near death experience to me is similar to Swanson beaten up and almost getting killed by the train. And yes, Arthur’s role being Jesus lol and at the same time, just another sinner.
When all who bashed Mary Magdalene left, Jesus asked her, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
To which she answered, “No, Lord.”
“Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
We see the Reverend getting ridiculed by the gamblers as well as people in camp. If you choose to interact with camp folk as you carry Swanson back, you can hear John and Abigail saying things like, “You’re too easy on him, Arthur.” And “You've always had a soft spot for that old fool.”
But even when Swanson himself got his foot stuck and said “It appears to like this place and wants to stay,” Arthur still chose to save him, even almost getting himself killed in the process. Stood with him even though Swanson felt like everything else is against him.
Again, he started crying and said things like “Have I been bad again, Mr. Morgan? I'm sorry. I wish I was different.”
But Arthur just said, “Let’s get you home.”
I guess we can view people at camp and the gamblers as the people who condemned Mary Magdalene. But without many words, Arthur defends the Reverend (“He's a decent feller going through a bad time. Disrespect him again, and you'll find yourself in a bad time too.”).
And I’d like to think that he, out of everyone, understood best that he himself is not without sin. Made clear when he said to the gamblers, “Life is a challenge... to all of us.”
shoutout to @etherealsadchick @arthurmorganist @thedilfdiaries @prettyundeadgirl (thank you for the enthusiasm 🥺🫶🏼!!)

I have some questions
Tumblr media
Hi... Aziraphale had no way of going to hell in search of Crowley??????
Oh wait that's not a question, that's a statement. Lol nvmind.
And how would Azi even get him back out? Stop blaming her for what the heaven/hell apparatus is doing to Crowley and to her. (Y'know what, I'm gonna be referring to Azi as "she/her" in this post, because we all deserve more of that. So deal with it.) Do you think she hasn't been racking her brains trying to think of a way to save Crowley ever since the Fall, and even before that?
Also - If Aziraphale went to hell and got stuck there, she'd probably be forced to torture people and that's not cool. (She probably wouldn't get a job on earth like Crowley.) Whereas there is no evidence whatsoever that Aziraphale has to actively do harm as part of her current role on earth. There are very good reasons Crowley doesn't want her to go to hell / become a demon / whatever. He doesn't want Aziraphale to suffer the same moral injury that he has.
Also also - Aziraphale mouths "Crowley" instead of screaming it because she knows it'll only get them both in more trouble if heaven/hell finds out they have an acquaintanceship, let alone that they care about each other. As an ab*se survivor, it's one of the most painful moments in the series for me, seeing Aziraphale distraught and having to hide it.
Azi mouthing "Crowley" while frantically trying to keep a straight face is the equivalent of Charles immediately trying to run after Edwin. It's arguably even more loving, I'd say. Aziraphale loves Crowley so much that she saw her worst nightmare come true (or rather, didn't see it? you know what I mean lol) and still managed to keep her "We don't know each other" mask more or less intact. Utterly devastating. This was the ultimate test of her love for Crowley, and she passed it.
*** Side note: If Aziraphale behaved the way fans want to demand she behave, hell would have killed Crowley so many times already lmao. And then of course the fans would be blaming her for that instead. << Babygirl can't win. She's damned (ha) if she does and damned if she doesn't. ***
You can see the horror and terror and devastation in her eyes.
Tumblr media
Here's a really good post about it:
But even if we didn't have that glimpse of her face at that moment... FUCK thinking Aziraphale wasn't worried about Crowley then. There is literally NO reason to assume she wasn't upset about seeing him dragged to hell to presumably be killed. (And yes, Azi knew hell was ab*sive and violent to Crowley, even back then. I'd argue she's known since NLT Uz. After all, she knows Crowley didn't "kill" the goats and the kids because he wanted to. She knows it was because hell made him do it.)
Also also also: She literally did go to hell to save Crowley, later on?
And wtf is wrong with what she wrote in her diary? "That was the last I was to see of Crowley for some time" is (so far as we know) a factual statement. She's writing about an upsetting experience. Journaling is a healthy coping technique. But apparently that's bad now lmao. (Not to mention there were so many things about that diary entry that were so blatantly weird that it's clear we can't take anything about Aziraphale's journals at face value anyway. But I guess we're just ignoring that.)
OH AND ONE MORE THING! That's "husband" or "wife" or "spouse" to you, not "friend"!

Nostraman Nature Sucks: An Attempted Lore Post
Ave dominus nox Night Lords fans. I thought I'd take some time to go through the various NL stories I have to hand and see what I could find out about the animals that lived on Nostramo. Might come in useful for something, who knows?
Sharks and Whales
As a child, on several coastal journeys with his father, he had witnessed the eyeless barrasal sharks that would group together to hunt the great whales of the open ocean. (Night Lords Trilogy)
His voice filters into something savage and predatory, as hungry as the eyeless white sharks of Nostramo’s blackest depths. (The Long Night)
Not a big surprise since they talk about them fairly often and have the Space Sharks as a successor chapter but Nostramo does have sharks. Pretty gnarly-sounding sharks if I'm honest.
I didn't know what "barrasal" meant, so I looked it up and only found one thread on r/40klore that had the same quote in it as above. Hmm.
Assuming it's not a typo or a more straightforward reference to something I'm just not getting, I'd venture a guess that barrasal, understood here to mean of or relating to "barras" like with "abyssal" could be connected to the French Revolutionary leader Paul Barras who is mostly remembered for supporting Napoleon's rise to power before being overthrown by him.
So maybe the older barrasal sharks will make use of younger ones as temporary hunting partners only to be inevitably betrayed and consumed by them. Sounds about right I think.
As for the whales, where do I even begin? I would imagine they're "whales" in name only like in Dishonored:
Tumblr media
This does imply the possible existence of a whaling industry at some stage in Nostramo's history, though.
Crows
Jago reached into his pockets, offering a handful of breadcrumbs. Come, he said to the crows. Food for tonight. Flesh, flesh, flesh, they called back. He laughed as several of the black birds landed on his shoulders and outstretched arm. (Prince Of Crows)
‘Yes. I’ve seen them in books. Is a crow a type of bird?’ ‘Black of feather and dark of eye. It feeds on the bodies of the dead, and sings in a raw, croaking caw.’ (TLN)
Breaking news - legion that keeps referring to crows in shocking has crows on its homeworld scandal. "This is outrageous," said local Nostraman cutpurse and skin disease enthusiast Verxaglryn Quickstabber, "here we are trying to make a good name for Nostramo as a respectable hellhole, a place you'd be proud to exile your worst enemy to, and yet we're surrounded by some of the most intelligent and curious birds in existence. I was shanking someone in a back alley the other night and suddenly I saw a crow learning how to use rudimentary tools! Not on my watch, I said to the rapidly cooling body, and I threw my shiv at it. But it just flew away." At this point Mr Quickstabber was obliged to end the interview due to having been eviscerated by the Night Haunter.
I know their communication with Sevatar is happening in a dream but I really like the idea of the crows adapting to Nostramo by developing some kind of psychic hive mind that's also able to be understood by human psykers.
Crag Cougars
A beast of my home world. When next you see one of the Atramentar, look to their shoulder guards. The roaring lions on their pauldrons are what we called crag cougars on Nostramo. It was considered a mark of wealth for gang bosses to be able to leave the cities and hunt such creatures. (NLT)
Every single one of them is Scar from the Lion King, isn't it? An interesting hint about Nostramo's geography though, of which more later.
Rats
Groundcars whisked by, headlights brighter than deep-hive rats’ eyes, the occupants snug and safe behind armoured glass. (Konrad Curze: The Night Haunter)
No surprises here either. Where there's people there's rats after all.
Something with tusks?
The older Astartes grinned, wolf-like and keen, as the Atramentar either side of the Exalted’s throne growled through their tusked helms. (NLT)
This isn't that conclusive because a lot of Chaos Terminators have tusks no matter what legion they are, but Nostramo being Nostramo they probably belonged to a species of giant carnivorous mammoth that ate babies and sprayed acid from its trunk.
Cows? On My Sunless World?
‘They are still of standard human stock, and not to be mourned. What does it matter if the cattle fear the herdsman?’ hissed Krukesh the Pale. (KC:TNH)
This one's a real reach on my part as it's very likely just a turn of phrase, but I noticed it because wouldn't it be slightly more typical to use a sheep metaphor here? Plus it supports the existence of Nostraman cowboys/ranchers/vaqueros which is fun.
No bats?
His helmet bore a new, spread batwing crest in blatant imitation of Sevatar’s own. (A Safe and Shadowed Place)
A sole space was neat: a circle around an iron lectern fashioned in the form of a bat’s outflung wings, which carried a heavy book bound in human skin. (KC:TNH)
Although they appear a lot in the VIII legion's iconography and artwork, oddly enough I wasn't actually able to find a direct reference to Nostramo itself having bats. Let's cover my ass by saying this aspect might therefore have been brought in by the legion's Terran component instead.
Some Nostraman geography
The Hill Folk lived away from the cities, eking out an existence in the mountains. (NLT)
What's worse than living in a Nostraman city? Living on a Nostraman hill, apparently. This seems to just be an idea of ADB's that doesn't come up again but I've always found it quite interesting. Were the Hill Folk as scummy as the City Folk, just with more of a down-home Dukes of Hazzard vibe? Seems likely.
This also supports the idea of Nostramo not being completely urbanised like some Hive Worlds are. In my view its continents might have had a geographical layout a bit like Italy or Scotland where the cities are mainly on the flatter coasts with a more sparsely populated hilly/mountainous interior.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What else? (This part is just me making stuff up so feel free to ignore it. I'm not ADB, I'm not even ADB's hat.)
If the rest of Nostramo's marine life is anything like the sharks and whales then it's fucking terrifying. I would imagine, because it's funny, that a lot of Nostraman food features disgusting industrially-processed fish in some way or another. Like the food in Dishonored but even worse.
Tumblr media
Is something wrong, dearest offworld husband? You haven't touched your stale bread, whalemeat and jellied eels.
Since all life on Nostramo seems to be comically carnivorous and aggressive, it would make sense in a 40K kind of way for there to be giant predatory penguins living at one or both of its poles. A bit like the monstrous blind albino penguins HP Lovecraft wrote about.
Tumblr media
Last known infrared pict-capture of an early Nostraman settler attempting communication with a juvenile specimen of the native penguin species. There were no survivors.

you know i want to hear about 'tonight on jerry springer: my son wants to marry a vampire spawn!'
I got a lot of asks about this one! Which, in retrospect, shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise.
tonight on jerry springer: my son wants to marry a vampire spawn! is, as more than one person guessed, about Astarion and Ulder throwing down, primarily over Ulder’s treatment of Wyll. It starts as a meet-the-parents dinner and, uh, devolves from there. And then Wyll is forced to actually talk about his feelings! The idea sprung from my dissatisfaction at how Ulder and Wyll’s reconciliation plays out in the game proper, followed by me getting into wyllstarion and being like “you know, Astarion would have some fucking Opinions about how Ulder treated Wyll.” When I started it back in like…oh god, October or November of last year, there were only a handful of wyllstarion fics out there, and none of them had really tackled this yet.
I may or may not finish it! I kind of wrote a version of this into NLTS already, and spoiler-not-spoiler, Astarion’s going to have even more words for Ulder when he enters the picture again.
Here’s an excerpt of what I’ve got so far:
Astarion’s posture is flawless, shoulders back, head high, but his hands don’t match the rest of the picture. He plays with the lace of his cuffs, rolling their hems between his fingers and palms. A small gesture, easily ignored, but Wyll knows by now to watch for such things. (And he cherishes them – the slight crease at the corner of Astarion’s mouth when, against his better judgment, something charms him; the release of his shoulders when he’s well and truly sated; the deft curiosity of his hands when he encounters a particularly challenging lock.)
Not that Wyll is fully at ease himself. The foyer is arranged just as it was seven years ago, when he last graced the halls of his father’s house, but surely the chandelier was not so bright before. He remembers the mingled scents of incense and horse musk, but now he nearly tastes the metal tang of blood beneath both. Part of him still expects his sword master to round the corner any minute now, barking at him to practice his forms one more time.
Astarion glances at the portrait to his right and does a double-take. “Wyll,” he says, “is that your father? With – hair?”
“My grandfather,” Wyll says, “but I can’t vouch for the likeness. I never met the man. This was painted after he died, based on Father’s descriptions. I always wondered how much the painter just substituted Father’s own features, though.”
“Well, the duke either described his haircut badly, or described a very bad haircut.”

Plot Twist
I loooooooooooove a good plot twist. I love a story that keeps me guessing. I love a story that has a beautiful plot with lots of recurring themes and bookend events, and I love how writers can use seemingly "throw away" lines or moments in a story to be the cornerstone of the climax. I love when everything gets tied together in a bow at the end, and the payoff is satisfying.
Nothing gets me like a good story.
One of my favorite plot twist movies is a movie called Fracture. It's a legal crime psychological thriller where Anthony Hopkins plays this brilliantly conniving engineer who shoots his wife after discovering she was having an affair and Ryan Gosling who plays the prosecutor going up against Hopkins, only to find out the "open and shut" case he was given is far more twisted than he thought.
Tumblr media
I can't and won't give anything away by it, but lemme tell ya, I was on the edge of my seat the ENTIRE movie. It was so good, and the ending! With that twist coming out of nowhere, like wow!
You ever feel like you're in a plot twist movie sometimes? You ever look at the events of your life and you're like "Where in the world is this going? How is this supposed to play out for my good?"
That's me right now if I'm being honest. I'm waiting for the plot twist. I'm waiting for this part of my story to make sense; I'm waiting for something to make me look back at this chapter and go "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"; I'm waiting for the pay-off.
If I tried to write/orchestrate my own story with what little perspective I have, I'd end up with a flop of a story. And look, my friends, I think I'm a decent writer. I've got some comments on AO3 that say so. But if I tried to write my life as a solo writer, I'd flunk. I know it.
Guess what! I don't have to be the solo writer of my story. The burden doesn't have to be placed on me.
I can hand over the pen to the Master Storyteller who has a far better perspective on life than I do, who never gets writer's block, who can pen a brilliant and beautiful story like no one else can, who loves a good plot twist (read as a both a good plot twist and a plot twist that works out for my good), and who is never surprised by what comes about from the story.
And boy, does He have a beautiful story in the making! For all of us!
I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well....Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in Your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. - Psalm 139:14;16 ESV (emphasis mine)
Before we were even born, God started mapping out our stories!
We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them. For God knew His people in advance... - Romans 8:28-29a NLT "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will hear you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart." - Jeremiah 29:11-13 ESV
God can use the good, the bad, and the ugly - and everything in between - to write an amazing story for us. The plot twists will have us cheering, the detail that went into it all will leave us in wonder, and the payoff for each chapter will leave us feeling completely loved by the Master Storyteller, who loves us far more than we could ever imagine.
So today, whose script are you going to go with? Yours or God's? The choice is yours.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand ACTION!

WHEN OPPOSERS COME AS FRIENDS 1
1 THE ENEMIES OF JUDAH AND BENJAMIN heard that the exiles were rebuilding a Temple to the LORD, the God of Israel.
2 So they approached Zerubbabel and the other leaders and said, “LET US BUILD WITH YOU, for we worship your God just as you do. We have sacrificed to him ever since King Esarhaddon of Assyria brought us here.”
3 But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the other leaders of Israel replied, “YOU MAY HAVE NO PART IN THIS WORK. WE ALONE WILL BUILD THE TEMPLE FOR THE LORD, the God of Israel, just as King Cyrus of Persia commanded us.”
4 THEN THE LOCAL RESIDENTS TRIED TO DISCOURAGE AND FRIGHTEN THE PEOPLE OF JUDAH TO KEEP THEM FROM THEIR WORK.
5 THEY BRIBED AGENTS TO WORK AGAINST THEM AND TO FRUSTRATE THEIR PLANS. This went on during the entire reign of King Cyrus of Persia and lasted until King Darius of Persia took the throne."
Ezra 4:1–5 (NLT)
• When a vision which is also known as God's plan for your life is revealed or given to you, you had to beware of foes among those who would be coming to you in the pursuit of the vision.
- You have to be focus and be sensitive. Some may come as friends, pretending to join hands with you in building your vision or fulfilling the assignment given to you, but such are the enemies—the opposers.
- Note: According to our text, those who were the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin came in a friendly way to lend a hand in the building of the temple (Ezra 4:2).
a. When their help was turned down, they resulted to use the weapons of discouragement and frightening (Ezra 4:4).
b. They also hired and bribed some people, agents, against them to frustrate the plans of the Jews. In other words, they wanted the construction of the building not to be a reality—they did not want them to build.
- Why were the local residents or the people of the land doing that?
a. The local residents knew the importance and spiritual significance of the building, the temple; thus they would not want it to be built.
b. The resistance had a spiritual connotation. They knew If the temple was successfully built, and prayers and sacrifices were offered to God by the Jews, the forces of darkness or the horns of the gentiles fighting and scattering the Jews would be dislodged and overpowered (Zechariah 1:18-21).
c. They knew that all the altars they had raised would be judged and condemned by the God of heaven Whom the temple was being built for (Zechariah 1:21).
• When you are assigned to start a new work, or pioneer a new ministry, you would have to be circumspect and discerning as you start building the new work.
- When a new church or ministry started, the first set of people who usually surface are rebels. Although, it might not be all, but a number of them are.
- Most of the ones who surfaced are from one church or ministry or other. Some of them are curiosity seekers. Some are there to see how you would do it, guessing and anticipating how things would unfold. Would visionary succeed or not? Would the work, church or ministry, stand or not?
- Some who would come to offer help at such a time might be those who are desperate for position or power. Some would want titles. They would want you to make them one thing or another, would want you to put them in the position of leadership; honour and power:
20 THEN THE MOTHER OF ZEBEDEE'S SONS CAME TO HIM [Jesus] WITH HER SONS, KNEELING DOWN AND ASKING SOMETHING FROM HIM. 21 AND HE [Jesus] SAID TO HER, “WHAT DO YOU WISH?” SHE SAID TO HIM, “GRANT THAT THESE TWO SONS OF MINE MAY SIT, ONE ON YOUR RIGHT HAND AND THE OTHER ON THE LEFT, IN YOUR KINGDOM" (Matthew 20:20,21 NKJV).
• Out of the people who came at the inception of the work, some would want to strike a bargain, or make a deal; especially If the ministry or church is showing a sign of progress.
- You would hear things like, If you made me one of the board of trustees of the church or the ministry, I will bankroll or supply money to meet all the expenses of the church. And a number of similar things.
- Those who are not qualified, who do not have the spiritual stamina, to stand or work in certain departments or ministries of the church would want to be there through bribery (Acts 8:18-21).
- Some would not mind offering you money or support or whatever help needed; that you might make them a deacon or whatever because they are title conscious. But the standard for any appointment into the ministry or church leadership is found in the Bible and It should be duly followed: "BEFORE THEY ARE APPOINTED AS DEACONS, LET THEM BE CLOSELY EXAMINED. IF THEY PASS THE TEST, THEN LET THEM SERVE AS DEACONS" (1 Timothy 3:10 NLT).
Read: Acts 6:2-6
• You will not fail in Jesus' name.
- If you are having any ailment in your body As you read this piece, I declare your healing now in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
- The hold of sicknesses broken in your life will never rise again in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
Peace!
TO BE CONTINUED
STEPS TO SALVATION
• Take notice of this:
IF you are yet to take the step of salvation, that is, yet to be born-again, do it now, tomorrow might be too late (2 Corinthians 6:1,2; Hebrews 3:7,8,15).
a. Acknowledge that you are a sinner and confess your Sins (1 John 1:9); And ask Jesus Christ to come into your life (Revelation 3:20).
b. Confess that you believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that you confess it with your mouth, Thus, you accept Him As your Lord and Saviour (Romans 10:9,10).
c. As you took the steps A and B your name is written in the Book of Life (Philippians 4:3; Revelation 3:8).
- If you took the steps As highlighted above, congratulations, It means you are saved—born-again. Join a Word based church in your area and Town or city, and be part of whatever they are doing there. Peace!
Note:
a. I want you to follow us for more edifying content.
b. Endeavour to share this message. God bless you.

The Negativity Remedy
A 5-Day Devotional
by Nicole J. Phillips
Day 5: How can my little act of kindness or the way I respond to difficult people possibly change the world?
Have you ever seen someone smile and all of a sudden, their whole face changes? It’s almost as if a light is radiating out of them.
When I see someone smile like that, I can’t help but smile too.
The smile is a powerful thing. In its presence, there is no fear, no worry, no hurriedness. There is just peace and a precious moment of joy.
I think that’s because what shines through a true smile is love, and God tells us love and fear cannot coexist.
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18 (NIV)
Can you imagine having the power to drive out fear in our world? Well, guess what? You do! That’s the power of kindness. When we smile, say an encouraging word, or even hold our tongue when someone else is baiting us, we bring light to the world.
As children of God, we know it’s our job to love, but I think we get confused sometimes on how important it is to step into that role. We start asking questions like, “How could someone like me possibly make a difference?” Maybe we get discouraged and decide to keep that smile or that word of encouragement to ourselves. But your light is your superpower when it comes to creating big change in this world.
Let’s break this down.
1. We love Jesus, therefore we have the light of God within us (John 8:12).
2. When we shine that light, the area around us becomes brighter.
3. When everyone who loves Jesus shines, the whole world becomes brighter!
Can you see why the Word of God tells us not to hide our light?
God gives us even more guidance in this verse:
Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. (Isaiah 58:10 NLT)
When I first read this verse, I took it very literally. I need to cook for people and figure out a solution when they come to me with a problem. But as I studied it, I began to see it in a broader view. Every one of us is hungry for something: love, attention, affection. Every one of us has troubles: daily worries, doubts, diagnoses.
When we give a moment to the person in front of us, we are feeding them, we are helping them, and we are shining light into their darkness. When we shine light into their darkness, we shine light into our own.
God created kindness to bless the receiver, sure. But He also created kindness to bless the giver and everyone else who is in the midst of the great light that radiates from it.
Go ahead. Smile. Turn the light on wherever you go. You’ll brighten the day of everyone blessed enough to cross your path. You’ll be standing in the midst of God’s radiant presence, and without even knowing it, you will have changed the world.

A gracious woman gains respect.
Most people are much more likely to have self-esteem than a high view of others' personalities, intelligence, character, or talent. In fundamental attribution error, if we have a success, we assume that it's because we are wonderful people who deserve it, whereas if other people have success, they had lucky circumstances. On the other hand, if somebody makes a mistake, it's because they are a crummy person, whereas if we do, it's because we had unlucky circumstances. Fundamental attribution error is widely observed in psychology. So what do we do about it? How do we get esteem, not just from ourselves but other people?
First off, respect is not just honor or esteem. It impacts how you are treated. You are more likely to be treated with politeness. People are more likely to defer to your preferences. You are less likely to be molested or taken advantage of, and people are less likely to stalk you and invade your privacy. I need to heed this verse because IN MY IMAGINATION, my car and my parents' house have possibly been bugged, people maybe read the things I have written on password protected accounts, and Satanists eavesdrop on my thoughts and lie about them and make fun of them. Am I a lunatic? Yes. But some strange things have happened. I was on my old One Drive account making a PowerPoint. I thought to myself, without speaking aloud or touching my computer, "It would be cool if this PowerPoint was green." Before my eyes, right after I thought that, the template to the PowerPoint switched to a green one without me touching the computer. The only explanation that fits with other weird things observed in my life is that one or more Satanists were seancing with me and hacked into my account, and they changed the template in response to my thoughts. Another time, I heard IN MY IMAGINATION my parents voices and my sister's say that she stole my box of bills and stole my parents' money to pay them. My bill box was a distinctive, reasonably sized, artsy box. I kept it in the same place. It was gone. It was nowhere to be found. The fact is that sometimes people respond to your thoughts, and sometimes the voices in your head will be people in your life whose words turn out to be real or true. Given that mental telepathy is sometimes real, and Satanists eavesdrop on Christian marks' thoughts, what should we do, to gain politeness, privacy, decency, and respect? If you are a dude, I don't know. If you are female, the antidote to this sick lunacy seems to be wrapped up in this word that I fail to embody "gracious." "A gracious woman gains respect" states Proverbs 11:16a, NLT).
Gracious women are kind, courteous, and charming. They show mercy and compassion to the sinful and the hurting. They are polite to everyone regardless of where they are on the totem pole. They can be pleasing and attractive. Gracious is also a nice way to express surprise as opposed to dropping the f-bomb.
I do not fit the bill. I tell everybody, "I don't trust you as far as I can spit." I have many other nasty habits. Thank you, Bible for giving me a solution to any real or imaginary lack of respect and intrusion into my privacy. Unfortunately, it demands an entire personality overhaul.
Dale Carnegie gave some pointers on how to be the first sentence. Compliment people and make them feel important. Be genuinely interested in people and a good listener. Do not insult or criticize people, but try to change them in other ways. I guess I need to actually put his good advice in How to Win Friends and Influence People into practice.

More Comfort & Joy, please.... 🫠🎄

Happy Day after Christmas! 😊👍 I'm actually kinda relieved it's over....that's a first ever. I guess I've seriously become a full-fledge adult. Lol It honestly can be an epic time of year for many families. Whenever I use the word "epic" it's describing a time of roller coaster emotions & drama with a gracious resolution, and this Christmas was sure epic for my family. Like what that statement says above, taking the time to breathe and possibly pace yourself is a good thing. It'll help prevent becoming overwhelmed and lead to burn out. It'll also help you stay present and enjoy the happy times this festive season brings.
If there's one sure thing I know from my experience is that God takes what was meant to do Evil and transforms it something Good. The holidays are an opportunity for old family feuds or drama to boil over causing old wounds to break open. *sigh* Yep, all that heavy burden stuff that brings no good to anyone. That's when we, as Christ-Followers, need to step back and pray for God to step in. God takes the drama and transforms into redemption. That's truly the gift that keeps giving! Through His Son, Christ Jesus, we're promised everlasting freedom on all burdens and worries. All we need to do is ask and allow Him to continue doing a good work in us!
'And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. '

a christmas list

Isaiah 7:14  NLT
All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).
The Christmas season is one that most of us look forward to.  But if we take a look at all the details and happening we might second guess the excitement and even the joy.
It really is all about Jesus, yet the world and often even Christians have made the holiday something it is not.  May we change this reality to point us all and others back to God and to the reason for the Christmas season.
That is why I stop today (and next week).  That is stop these e-devotions because I will be on a mission trip in Cuba with limited connectivity.  There might be some updates via the e-devotion minute on FaceBook a few nights, but there will not be email or written devotions.
Lets take some time today to make a Christmas list.  What are the things this season is are important to me and I am excited about?
First, I am excited about family.  We are planning some special time together in just a couple weeks.  All our kids in one place for a few days.  It is going to be awesome.
Second, I am excited about time with our grand children.  I love, love, love these little ones and enjoy time with them.  What a blessing to see them smile, have fun and enjoy new things.
Third, serving others is always on my list.  That will come with meeting specific needs or sharing some gifts or having some important conversations.
Fourth, it is always great to spend time with friends and our church during Christmas with food or special worship and more.
Fifth and maybe the most important, I enjoy the focus on Jesus and the freedom to talk with others about Jesus.  Many will accept an invite to church or a church event when they wouldn’t at any other time.  Even better is to take some quiet time to focus on the real meaning of the season.
Stop.  Make your Christmas list.  Make it count more than ever.
Please pray for me and the team I will be serving with in Cuba over the next 9 days, and thank you for making much of Jesus this Christmas season.
Matthew 1:21  NLT
And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
