Hackathon Things

Two weeks ago, I had never been to a hackathon (mainly because where I lived until last year never had them) and now I’ve already participated in TWO. One kind of small, another one way bigger. But both were amazing and I had so much fun. ♥

The first one (FS Code Weekend) lasted from Saturday 9am until Sunday 3pm. In this one, we had to make a mobile app with beacons that could be used by the bank/insurance companies. We tried to make something different and not related to advertising o real state agencies or ATM (they common use for this technology). So we ended up doing an app that could be used by pet insurance companies. And the judges actually liked the idea, so we placed third. It was a really amazing experience, even though we ended really tired. We didn’t sleep, and we spent most of the time programming. Still, we had time for playing (they had nerf guns lying around!), talking to other people and the guys from the organization (they were all super nice) and even we watch Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them (at 5am or so). Aaaaand two other teams that participate where from my home town and they invited me to have coffee at their company if I ever go back.

Second one (HackForGood) was this past weekend, from Friday at 12pm to Saturday at 5pm. This was different, instead of only one thing, they had a few different challenges and you could work on any of them (or combine a few, but with this year’s topics that was difficult). This one had a LOT of people, I think we were like 150 or so (instead of 50 like in the other one) and we were more crammed… We were all in the study place of the uni (almost like the hall) and we didn’t have enough place for all so a few groups were even sharing their table. In this one, our team came in first. The challenger love our app, and he asked us to come to his uni to show it to the students and teachers. So yeah, we had fun, we met new people (since two people we didn’t know join our team) we got first place and we even managed to sleep for a bit. ♥

So, yeah, if you have the chance, participate in a hackathon!
