Every shot that the metal beast fired pierced into the ground, tearing right through it and leaving a clean cut across the rock and stone! At low power, it acted as a cutting laser rather than a flesh boiler!?

Green: "In Karl's name! This firepower-!!"

Yellow: "It's like they beef'd up a caretaker! 'N LET IT MOVE 'ROUND!"

Red: "It must be for assaults instead of defense! An assault-class caretaker!"

Blue: "YEAH, NO SHITE RED!!"

'KRAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAK-!!'

'KA-BOKACK! KRACK-KABOOAK! KA-CRACKLE!'

The 40 marines that remained made haste to swiftly surround the massive steel death machine! Dodging every stream of plasma sent their way to the best of their ability! Even the Chief charged forwards and drew out his shield to take fire for his brothers at the front! They fire upon it from every angle, smashing into its hull, the control core, and the tendrils with extremely high-caliber weapons! But-

Dread Baron Soldiers: "CHIEF! OUR ATTACKS! THEY DO NOTHING!!" "Is it so durable, not even railguns work?!" "Damnit-! DIE!!" "WATCH YOUR HEADS, FOURTH SQUADRON!"

Dread Baron Chief: " G R R R R R H H H - ! ! "

'BQUIOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-!'

The Chief charges in, drawing his blast-spear from his back once again while taking the brunt of a beam during its rapid increase in output! Dragging it back behind him as it prepared to fire, and chucking his arm forwards at maximum strength to send it out at its highest possible speed!

Dread Baron Chief: " T O O A A A A H H ! ! "

' C R A A A A - ! ! Ba- G W O H ! '

What-?! IT JUST BOUNCED OFF THE TENDRIL!? The impact forced it to be sent off in a different direction, but... it wasn't even damaged!

Dread Baron Chief: " G a a a r r R R R - ! ! "

Red: "WAIT! LOOK THERE! ON THAT TENDRIL YA JUST HIT!"

Dread Baron Chief: " G r r h m - ? ! "

Surrounding the tendril was a sudden cascade of red light, a different hue to the violet lights that produced its plasma streams! Was that-?!

Red: "AN ENERGY SHIELD! IT'S COATED TOP-TO-BOTTOM IN A SHIELD BARRIER!! One that's invisible to the naked eye until hit by somfin' REAL strong!"

Green: "That's why nothin's scratchin' it!?"

Blue: "What the bloody hell!? THAT'S CHEATIN'!!"

Yellow: "Agh! It's fekkin' invincible, then?!"

Red: "Maybe it's similar to a normal caretaker's shield! Only more flexible, coatin' its entire body! It's got no pipes, so the power source has to be inside!"

Blue: "Wait!? If that's so, then do you think a Hacksy is gonna be able to-!?"

Red: "It's our best shot!

CONTROL! SEND DOWN A HACKING DRONE! NOW!!"

(just gonna carry on our story, pretending that mc's vacation never happened in-between. "ahem") . . .

Blue: "Ouuuugggghh... C-Control? ...C-Can ya read? Agh--... Wh-What in the bloody blazes WAS that? Th-Think I hit my head pretty hard from--

. . . What the...?" . . .

Death cratered into the room from above.

In a flash, the ceiling had been smashed through.

. . . In the blink of an eye.

50 Dread Barons had become 42.

8 Marines, crushed into bloody metal paste under a massive black-steel laser-core-infused drill built by the Rival Machines.

A drill that was as wide as 4 drop pods combined, carrying a black-steel box into the depths of this world that was the size of 5. Marked from top-to-bottom in Rival Glpyhs and Patterns…

Any barons that weren't crushed like tomatoes were thrown to the cave floor, dazed. Staring up at the enormous box.

Even the Power Scales and the Chief were floored by the crash-down of the box… rubbing at their visors to get the dust out of their vision.

Red: " . . . What. In. This galaxy?" Yellow: "What is that...? 'S massive!" Green: "The Barons! They were...!" Blue: "Red? Red, what-? What do we...?" Dread Baron Chief: " . . . B r o t h e r s . M Y . B R O T H E R S ! " Seeing the fate of his soldiers, the chief of the Barons began to shake with a believably unfathomable rage. Red: " . . . Control. What... what're your readin's sayin'?"

Management has been alerted. We’re awaiting orders. I’m scrambling another platoon of Marines as exfil, but the odds of them getting there before that… thing… reduces you to a fine red mist are low. I’d also recommend getting away from the Chief- you’ve heard the term seeing red? He personifies it.

I wish there was an option to like, pet Molly. or give her an affectionate pat. she works so hard carrying out rocks and stones, and while she may be slow and get in the way we should give her credit where credit is due, y’know?

I think it should just be a thing that we should be able to interact more with the friendly bots. petting Molly is a start, but like what if we could highfive Bosco? I’m sure Hacksy would appreciate a fistbump more than being pet. we should be allowed to give Betsy a pat too since she got left down in the caves and attacked by parasites, and I would love to see more interactivity with Lloyd at the Abyss Bar. I just think it’d be cool just to make the place feel more alive. as someone who enjoys just going in with Bosco every now and then, it can get a little dull when all he really does is salute. if the bots are on our team, we should treat them like we treat other dwarves (or at least a little better than we treat them already).

yeah its six am and i just got home from working on my capstone project, yeah i have work at nine, yeah i worked on that for literally 13 hours. we exist.

for real thoigh, that was an amazing fucking push, jeez. we went from no networking, no physical prototype, and no integration with sensors and indication (never even running the Real Program, even! id only ever tested it with myratest.py, my nasty little hacksy little test program), to having a working (if ugly) prototype with basic neteorking.

for real, im super fucking proud of us. we made that shit, and then we spent six hours recording a demo of it.

still doesnt compare to my standing allnighter fullpush record (charlie and the chocolate factory 16/17 hours). tho it does have charlie beat on the bitching game, bc i have to get up in two hours anf go to work whereas for charlie igot home and immexiately slept for like eleven full hours.

now i just......... *really* hope my prof doesnt look at us and say damn! yall are really behind, and im going to kill you! ... i really, really fuckimg hope she doesnt, im not sure i could take that. like im 90% sure we are gonna gget this done in the end but.......... i dont wanna get told that we're shitheads and we suck. again. :c

also: my mom and i talkex for a while today, planned out what were gonna do instead of the graduation ceremony (family gsthering), um. stuff? idk. also i told her damm! it was really awesome being able to love my family, it is great. she said it mad eherwhole week, maybe month.

My team and I came up with a fantastic idea recently. We've been thinking about how to extract the AI core from a Nemesis without it self-destructing, and we've decided that if we can lure it over to a Hacksy and make a wireless connection as it's going offline we might just be able to stop it. We've even been practicing with glyphid praetorians and supply pods.

Not sure what we're going to do with the core, though. Probably just give it to R&D.

Keep me updated on this one. If this works all four of you are going to an early retirement on a beach living comfortably with Deep Rock stock, I promise you that.
