Can I grouse some more? Not sticking this to a reblog because sure, people seem to like that "spin the wheel for a gender identity" thing and I don't need to take a shit on their feelgood. I'm going to take a shit on it now, if that wasn't clear :)

For me it was such a kick into the knee caps:

Gender identity is the words you choose to explain who you are. You have, in fact, a say in that - THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT!

So, if I look at what prefabricated gender identities society offers, including the one stamped on baby!me - that's not me. Fortunately there are now some artisan handfelted ones around and I'm going with nonbinary transmasc since that seems to be a fit. Once the concepts behind the term morph, I won't be stuck with them, they won't force me to change along. I'll still be me and will then look for another descriptive bunch of words.

You cannot assign a gender identity to me. If you're saying "the wheel says, you're a cis man now!" what do you mean? Did I have a magical body transformation? I mean, yes please, but that's just magical top- and bottom surgery and hormones. Are you magically erasing and overwriting my whole life, starting with baby!me? Go ahead, I guess - I won't be me anymore though, but someone else. So what do I care. Or what about "Would I be happy to have lived 48 years as a person amab who grew into knowing she's a trans woman?" Why not. Would I have loved the stigma, hate and discrimination? Surprise: no! So would I be happier being a cis woman? Pfff, ok. If you made ME a cis woman it would mean killing me and creating someone else who might be happy or not.

Or do you mean I'll stay myself, body and brain, but you're gonna call me a cis woman? See, that's what they already do and do you need to ask how hApPy that makes me?!

So yeah that wheel can die. It makes a travesty out of good concepts that try NOT to be gender essentialist.
