After a while without uploading new things (taking advantage of the fact that we are still celebrating #MerMay and with the live-action version of The Little Mermaid about to be released) I share this pencil test tribute to Ariel, another Disney character I always wanted to animate, that she has just found a “snarfblatt” at the bottom of the sea. 

It was a super interesting experience giving life to a character who is always moving fluidly and energetically underwater. Perhaps the most challenging thing has been keeping her shapes well drawn throughout the scene. I hope that, as with Simba, I have captured the essence of her.

Animatic made from my april Storyboardart.org perspective execise, with some added frames and elements. Mostly hand drawn on paper, colored with Olo and Copic brand alcohol markers.  Backgrounds dawn first, then characters cut and pasted over that.

Some WIP of this shot I did. I was asked to post a step by step, unfortunately because of NDA's and other reasons, I delete most raw material after the ep is done. This was the most I could find for this shot. I'm missing final posing and keys. But most of that info is on the sketches too. The "P" and "BK" that pop up signal the keys and breakdowns.
