In one of your posts you said that there were some songs you were gonna animate with some characters either from The Graveyard Shift or idk. Are there any animatics about that topic that you have started?

I have no animatics, but a butt ton of hyperphantasia, so this ask was an opportunity to draw out scenes that haunt my mind every day

For The Graveyard Shift in particular, I have ideas for the following songs (sorta in order from least to most unhinged and including spoilers for future TGS characters)

"You Didn't Know" from Hazbin Hotel , bc Lute's line didn't need to go that hard but its burned into my memory at this point (also this animatic somehow evolved from its initial concept while working on this ask so now it's Rosemary and Gregory)

"We Don't Talk About Bruno", but Michael Afton is Bruno being talked by every other mascot horror because Sammy's looking for him

"Waiting In The Wings (Reprise)" from Tangled the Animated Series (this is actually the most serious bc it's actual character growth between Mike and Doug)

31 Days of Horror: Needles

Tucked away in one of the rented community rooms in Weston Library, the Skein-Tastic group met bimonthly. That's twice a month, their leader, Hannah Arnold (proud PTA attendee and member of the town council) reminded them every time. An ancient running joke among its oldest members, woven into the fabric that made the group whole, a gentle ribbing of a long forgiven mistake that made Daryl feel like an outsider.

She sat in a corner with her knitting project - a duck themed set of mittens for her mother - with shoulders curled around her ears. It was her third month of attending, the sixth meeting overall, and her courage to speak to the others flicked. It faltered. So from her perch in a beaten, worn down faux-leather arm chair, she watched. The established members, all six of them, chattered as they worked, in harmony with the clicking of their wooden knitting needles.

Required knitting needles. Right there in bold print on the flyer pasted on the library bulletin board. She glanced at the cheap ones she'd bought at Michaels before joining, then back up at the others.

It wasn't that the group was unfriendly. They always spared a cheerful word when she showed up, ask her how she was. How school was, once they found out she was attending the local university. It was simply that she was the outsider looking in, at least for now. They did have good gossip, at least, and she could be a fly on the wall.

She fell back into the lull of knitting, listening to the others talk: about school life, the outrageous things going on in their families. She was sure some of it was fake, or at least embellished, much in the way stories shared on Reddit were almost always pieces of fiction.

"How're you enjoying the group?"

The voice made her jump, almost dropping her needles. Clearing her throat, trying to hide how embarrassed she was, Daryl adjusted her grip and turned to the woman who had taken a seat on the bench nearest to her. The woman, older, middle aged, gave the soft laugh of the slightly apologetic. She pawed through the rotary of names for people she'd met in the town so far, trying to stitch a name to the face.

"Mrs. Fields! Uhm, yes. Sorry, I'm still...new." She cringed at how lame she sounded.

"Call me Mel," she said with a wave of her hand. In her other she clutched her project, a sweater that seemed to Daryl to be nearing completion. The yarn she used was dark, deep enough to make seeing the stitches difficult, but the more Daryl looked the more she swore that there was something shifting in the cabling, and it wasn't because of a reflective quality to the yarn. "Daryl, was it?"

"Yeah."

Mel Fields' smile widened from something polite, the kind that was reserved for mothers meeting their children's friends, to something more open. A little wicked, Daryl thought, in the ways of people passing secrets. "It's fantastic you've decided to join us," she said. "We've been trying to get younger members for ages."

"There's a knitting group at school," Daryl said. She shifted in her seat, adding, "I found it too overwhelming." Music and loud chatter and she didn't understand why anyone went to something like that for crafting. She poked her head in for one meeting, and then left almost as quickly.

"I understand," Mel said. "But anyway, we got you a welcoming gift. We would have given it to you sooner, but we weren't sure if you were going to stick around."

Daryl watched her set her sweater down in her lap (it was definitely moving, within the black and purple and deep crimson) and reaching into her purse. From it, she pulled out a set of knitting needles, wooden. Hand carved and tied together with a vibrant red ribbon.

"Sorry they're just the one size," she said, handing them over to Daryl. "We didn't want to seem too eager to keep your around." She winked.

Daryl didn't speak for a long moment, turning the gift over in her hands, almost afraid that she was going to break them. She paused over a line of carved letters, belonging to an alphabet unlike any she'd seen before. It was all swoops and dips like cursive, dots and crosses. Her fingers traced them, felt the skill of the woodworker and a strange warmth that pulsed beneath her fingertips.

"What's this?" she asked, her brows furrowing.

"Oh that?" Mel craned her neck to get a look herself, somewhere between admiring the work herself and pretending she hadn't seen the letters before. "It's just a little protection spell. Don't worry too much about it, honestly." Something shimmered in her eyes, and the room fell quiet. "We do things a little differently here."

"Are you going to kill me?" Daryl said in a rush of breath, and embarrassment crashed over her like a wave for having said it in the first place.

"What? God, no, at the library?" Mel laughed, and the other women who had decided the best way to spend their time was to eavesdrop chuckled with her. "No no, Daryl. Think of it like... An initiation."

"...for what? The knitting club?"

"Something like that." She pursed her lips, cat who got the canary pleased. "We have big plans here, and we'd love for you to join us."

Daryl blinked. She looked at the women in the room, all watching her with curiosity. She looked passed them to the door, where light from the library spilled through the blinds hanging over the glass door and windows. A straight shot, if she wanted to leave, almost an invitation.

She looked back at Mel.

She looked at Hannah, who's brows were raised and a soft upward quirk to her lips.

"I don't have anything else to do on a Saturday," she said with a shrug. "Why not?"

The air in the room shifted, like something in the earth itself had heard her words and accepted them. Daryl blinked, and went right back to knitting.

It's all fun and games until Hardy reminds everyone he is an undead eldritch horror

She put Daisy's remark about "true love's promise" out of her head for the next few days, pushing hard against the case; against Katie Harford and her stupid certainty; against Tom and his stupid certainty; against Hardy himself, although that was about as effective as punching a brick wall. Besides, he was looking bedraggled enough without her nagging.

It was a different sort of bedraggled than she'd seen during the Latimer case, or Sandbrook. There was none of the stretched-thin-ness, as though he were about to give out at a moment's notice. Now it was a coiling sort of tension in his movements, as though he were waiting for the chance to strike. It might have bothered her once; but sat across the table from Leo Humphries as he proudly recalled all the women he'd terrorised, the brutality he'd forced on young Michael Lucas, she was almost impatient for it to start.

And then it did.

"Makes you feel in control," Humphries said, smiling and serene. Ellie watched him closely and hardly noticed the room darkening, as though the lights had been submerged. The shushing pulse of the sea, never far off, grew louder. "For that moment, there's nothing else. Just you in charge. There's a moment where you're in harmony with the world, and it's just… beautiful."

"It is, isn't it," said Hardy. Ellie'd been focused on Humphries throughout the interview, his lawyer and Hardy on the edges of her vision, so it wasn't until the lawyer gasped that she realised something was wrong. She looked over at Hardy, who—

But he wasn't a who, in that moment. The thing next to her shifted and pulled at Hardy's bones from within, skin stretched and sagging in ways no living creature could withstand. And then it stood up, taller than Hardy; taller than the ever-shrinking room, stooped and looming.

"Power over someone, it's such a pleasure," it hissed. The cups of half-drunk water began to bubble and seethe; the recorder made a ghastly hissing noise and sparked out. "Someone pathetic and helpless, who can't even scream for help."

The lawyer made a dive for the door but Hardy was too quick for Humphries, arms twisting as they stretched across the room to pin him into a corner with one blue-grey hand clapped over his mouth, its fingers blackened with rot.

"But there's greater pleasures than that, Leo Humphries," said Hardy, through a mouth ruined and twisted, the jaw hanging at an unnatural angle. (Not unnatural, of course — nothing more natural than than a corpse.) "You can have all of them. I'll show you every one. Do you want that, Leo Humphries? Just ask me."

The hand lifted away and Humphries collapsed to the ground. "Please," he babbled, trying to crawl still further away, though there was nowhere left to go. "Please, please, no—"

Ellie was on her feet, grabbing at the thing beside her; even as she did she wondered why. What she could possibly do? Did she even want to? Wasn't this what she'd imagined — the rapist forced to endure horrors, fear and pain, with no hope of escape.

But instead it was Hardy who pulled himself back. Slowly, like the receding of the tide, the room expanded and lightened until it was real again. Ellie now held handfuls of cheap suit jacket, and Hardy's form contracted and folded in on itself until he looked almost, very nearly, human.

The door, still open from when the lawyer had escaped, fell off its hinges and landed with a clatter on the floor.

"You just had to ask," Hardy said, as Humphries shivered in the corner.

It was well past dawn by the time the paperwork was done. IT assured her that the confession had been recorded, even if there'd been a glitch toward the end of the interview that fried the device. The accused had been remanded to custody and his lawyer had requested a transfer — she was moving to be nearer her mum and dad, she said, in Northumberland. "I don't think I'll ever be back here," she said, her smile waxy and fixed. "Not ever. My firm will be in touch to provide him with new counsel."

Ellie finally left the station with enough time to get home and help the boys get ready for school, before going over to Trish's and telling her the news. Instead she sat down on the front steps, breathing carefully in and out and trying not to cry, or vomit, or scream.

He followed her, of course he did. Was she supposed to be afraid of him now? She'd been afraid of people before, even with her badge and her taser. For the past few years she'd been afraid of her own husband, though not as afraid as she'd been of herself. But as Hardy came closer she felt her heart unclench, the furious grief in her stomach dissolve.

"Ed Burnett's gone," he said. "And Jim Atwood." He paused; she could picture him now, looking down at her. "You okay?"

What a question. "No."

Hardy sat beside her, uncomfortable and comforting. "We have him now. That footage will send him down."

He was right; even if the confession didn't hold, even if Michael tried to change his story, those horrific videos had a solid chain of custody. Leo Humphries would stay in prison a long time.

Not long enough.

"He is not what men are," Hardy said. "He's an aberration."

"Is that what you are?" she asked, finally looking at him. "In there. Was that the real you?"

He didn't seem angry or offended. "It's all the real me, Miller."

"Is that why you told me about the iron and the wood and the ashes and everything?" She curled further into herself. "So if you go too far, I can—"

"I'd hope you'd arrest me first," he said. "Or at least talk to the Chief Super." When she didn't say anything, he shook his head. "It's my responsibility to not go too far, Miller. Not yours or anyone else's. Just mine."

"Then why tell me?"

"Because I trust you," Hardy said, as though it were simple as that.

Perhaps it was.

She untucked her hand from under her arm. He didn't move away as she put her hand to his jaw; the skin was cool and damp, as though he'd been standing too close to the spray of the ocean. "I don't know if you should," she said, holding back a shiver. It was too cold for June. Hardy's doing, maybe. Summers before him had been warm and grey, full of lazy mornings on the beach interrupted by a friendly pattering of rain. But there wasn't a cloud in the sky today. "I don't know if I'm worth it."

"You are," Hardy said, his voice low and soft, barely louder than the wind. The stubble on his cheek rasped against her palm.

Ellie shook her head. "I would've let you kill him. I think I even wanted it." She let her hand drop. "But I trust you, too." It felt like a confession. Or a promise.
