Santa Fe Plaza Santa Fe, New Mexico. July 2019
I got the DJI Mavic Pro Platinum, and this is one of the only shots I have left. I was practicing my skills flying it, and was really impressed with it’s ability to capture high resolution film in low light. The drone had a 1” hassleblad 4k camera.
Unfortunately I crashed the $2k drone into a tree next to the cathedral just a few weeks later, and lost it in the branches! I tried to retrieve the drone by borrowing a 30 foot ladder from the maintenance crew at the La Fonda Hotel across the street. When I was in the pine tree, the priest of the church came out and began yelling at me telling me he would call the police if I didn’t come down immediately. Luckily I didn’t go to jail that day!
I spoke to the church and they told me to hire an arborist with insurance to climb up the tree to retrieve the drone. When I called, the arborist told me he wouldn’t be able to help me for a few days. I then paid $100 for the arborist to climb the tree to find my drone, but he looked all over and didn’t find it. I asked the security at the church to review the footage of the cameras, and they saw a construction worker pick up the drone off the ground after it was blown out of the tree by wind!
To this day, I still don’t have my drone. 😢

Small brain: Perrin is a descendant of that one guy in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Big brain: her camera looked like a hassleblad at first becaus the body was tall and wide, but also thin making me think it’s a medium format mirrorless camera.

But it has a more angled shutter button and a thinner viewfinder bump. Looking at Fuji and Nikon cameras (because Perrin’s camera is silver and no other brands have metal finishes on their cameras) it’s not a Fuji XT series or a Nikon zfc because angled shutter button

however the physical shape matches a Fuji GFX-[numbersHere]S series or the XHS series .

In conclusion, the camera doesn’t technically exist because Game Freak wanted to dodge copyright issues, and
I’m a nerd.
#pokemon#perrin#I’m over analyzing this#photography#please add to this if you have any better idea what the camera is most similar to

Week 4 — The story of the Blue Marble
REFLECTION: It was really interesting to see how the photo of the Blue Marble went from conception to execution to popularity and how it's intention and narrative changed along the way. It reinforces how an image/campaign can begin with an intention, be executed and take on new meaning — based on circumstances or technicality — and then take on new meaning once or more times when released to the public. It shows how public opinion, political or social environment can drastically change the....
NOTES:
San Francisco counter-culture movement > Stewart Brand — earth's finitity.
Apollo 17 > intentionally changed course to capture the photograph.
Challenges: far enough away so that the single lens can capture the entire earth.
1972 > November 7th. 20k miles from earth.
70mm Hassleblad.
Single image has become an icon for what we see as earth.
Gaining an overview didn't immediately inspire change > more in the 80s when scientist combined the photograph with data.
Cropped + rotated according to a colonialist view of the "right way up"
Transformed meaning of the photograph.
Became a symbol of environmental consciouness.
Erases people from the image. Removes inequities > some face more than others.
Displace places + people.
Connecting with ourselves > not nature as an external thing.
The world is not necessarily our world. The overview effect can only take us so far. Sometimes we need to see things close up in order to see the bigger picture.
Experiencing context > our experience is not global.
Associated with a mesage > giving an image context + narrative.

daisies, plants, overalls, tattoos
daisies: finally getting trauma counselling to deal with being SA'd, it's not glamorous by any means but it's been a something that has allowed me to have a happier life and get over my pride at bottling everything up. A close second is getting accepted for my doctorate.
plants: My partner, any chance to be together and talk is always something I relish.
overalls: i would not have one billion for very long lol. I'd use it to first off payoff debt. Buy myself a couple of nice cameras such as a Leica or Hassleblad, probably more the blad as I'm a medium format junkie or maybe stick with the Fujifilm medium formats.
I'd then use a big chunk to give to my family and friends to give them some financial security and the rest would be poured into various local grassroots projects near me such as the non referral food bank. I'd love to be able to buy a load of houses just to give to people as weird as that may sound. Not rent, just give because renting is a pain and can be really insecure. Particularly as we have a large homeless population so with that kind of cash I'd want to give these people a safe place to sleep and pay for support to help them with whatever issues they're facing. It's not going to change the system but hopefully in a small way it helps someone.
tattoos: love them, always been fascinated by them but when I was younger I thought I wasn't cool enough to pull them off, that and piercings. Also, I grew up in the era of Miami/LA Ink which skewed my perceptions that tattoos had to be really meaningful and I only knew about trad and realism neither of which totally vibed with me. In my twenties I did the whole 'clean girl' thing (before it was called that lol) and i've now gone back to my emo and baby goth roots. My admiration for tattoos really bloomed as I watched a lot of people I went to art school go into tattooing, the city I live in has loads of great shops and such a variety of styles. It's genuinely fascinating to see how illustration sits on skin and is what inspired me to finally get one. It was actually done by a pal I went to primary school with and then art school! I adored her art so it was a no brainer to let her loose on my skin. My medieval/fantasy black and grey sleeve is slowly growing.

OnePlus Open: The Best Phone I don't Own
One of my least favorable habits, or toxic traits as the kids would say, is that I get so bored with phones so easily. I love the latest and shinest but I can't help but feel like the excitement wears off so quickly and but just because something newer and more interesting is coming up but because so much of what we see feels like the same thing. The same slabs of metal and glass and the same colors. It's all so boring. But foldable phones, particularly the OnePlus Open fascinate me because it's unique form factor, with different color options, and with an element of fun. It's like a mix of a tablet and a smartphone. Now full disclosure I don't own this phone. Currently, I'm using a Galaxy S22 Ultra that I've had for the past year and a half. But I've been studying the OnePlus Open extensively since it came out and I'm only more intrigued now than I was when it first came out late last year. In fact, prior to seeing the OnePlus Open I really wasn't sold on the whole foldable phone thing. The OnePlus Open was not the first foldable phone on the market, in fact, the Galaxy Fold has had four generations ahead of them, and even Microsoft and Google threw their hats into the ring to middling success. And that's no shade to either company, the Microsoft foldable did seem like an intriguing form factor, but it just couldn't quite catch people's eyes and attention. On the other hand, the reviews for the OnePlus Open from both tech enthusiasts and end users are all glowing. For me the biggest factor that makes me want this phone has to be the form factor. One of the complaints that I've seen about the Galaxy Fold is that the screen is so narrow, and it's part of the reason that I never really sought out the Galaxy Fold in the past. It's the same height as most other smartphones while also being just slightly thinner ensuring that you'll likely keep it open the majority of the time instead of wanting to use it between modes. Part of the excitement of a foldable is that you have the option to use it folded and then open it up if you need more space, like if you're reading or watching a video. Personally I don't read a whole lot on my phone because it's not that wide screen and my vision even with glasses pretty much requires me to have my text zoomed in which means it either is going to take a long time to read anything or it's going to be too frustrating to be worth it in which case I'll just open it on my laptop. Sure I have a tablet, but that's slightly too big to just take out in most situations unless it's on a plane, and more often than not when I'm at home I tend to forget it exists in favor of my phone and my laptop. With a foldable phone, however, you get the best of both worlds. Part phone part tablet and because OnePlus has partnered with camera manufacturer Hassleblad for their camera you even get a far better camera than on other foldable phones. Honestly to me, it's a win-win. Beautiful camera, unique form factor, and an operating system that isn't bloated with extra apps and even includes some unique features that once you try them you can't live without them. (As someone who owned a OnePlus 3T many years ago, I miss the way you screenshot on that phone so much).

Fulfilled several very long term camera dreams today. Hassleblad Medium Format, and a Leica R4, which I bought for the lens, but oh my god I'm in love with it already.
In other news, we're off to Sweden tomorrow to buy our house. WHAT.
